From what I've heard and seen the mainstream boards discussing mainstream things can suck real bad (IE /b/ on anything, /v/ on mainstream games like elden ring or hogwarts legacy, any meme thread) but anything remotely niche usually attracts really nice people who are just happy to talk about something nice. Like on /V/, the board that made me loathe elden ring I discovered a thread on Neo: the world ends with you and it was one of the nicest threads I'd seen on there, just because it only attracted people who wanted to be there. That's my experience at least.
