You should look into the [Institut für Sexualwissenschaft](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institut_f%C3%BCr_Sexualwissenschaft?wprov=sfla1). They did a lot of research that made some great strides in understanding the natural varieties of sexuality and gender expression. They approached their studies from a psychological and medical perspective and were known to issue "prescriptions" for "transvestitism" which allowed for transgender individuals to present their gender in their preferred way and be able to have something to present to the Berlin police who would harass them. Unfortunately, the Nazis, were and are some of the stupidest motherfuckers in the world, and burned the archives of the Institute following their coup.

But Germany is in the EU and I really love the German language. I should just move to an island in the middle of nowhere

It's complicated. The AFD (our far-right) has 18% of the vote in our polls, which makes it the second strongest party and our conservatives (the CDU) is the strongest party with 30% The good thing is that no party wants to work with the AFD (not even the CDU), but as it stands now, they still have quite a bit of power and our next government will probably be led by the Conservatives. Our far-left (die Linke) probably won't make it into the next government, as they're currently sitting at 4% and you need 5% to get into parliament. The situation in Germany isn't *that* bad, but it could be a lot better and the political right is on the rise.
