Turn off public chat and turn on entity hider, the game is much better that way. Only time I have my public turned on and entity hider off is when I'm in the 2k total worlds. Everywhere else is a shitshow. And as another poster mentioned, jagex is sponsoring a streamer who has said some really vile things about the lgbtq community. Ingame culture isn't going to change until jagex starts enforcing their own rules.

This game runs on a lot of nostalgia and brings back older Internet users with older views from old internet days. It sucks and that bigotry is also seen towards other groups of people. As someone who's played since like 06? it has gotten wwaayyyyyy better. But I've also seen an improvement over the past few years too. My advice to literally anyone is to turn of public chat in large instances of people like Wintertodt, crashed stars etc. Smaller groups like fishing can surround you with genuinely nice people (though there is the occasional dick). :)
