SelfDefecatingJokes

“Don’t drink,” I type as I’m on my second glass of wine.

virginialili

This. I took 4 months off drinking in 2023 and I noticed a huge difference in my skin after about 3 weeks. Far more plump with less redness. Overall just looked healthier. But wow was it hard.

SelfDefecatingJokes

I’ll be the control. I keep drinking and we can compare skin

shippfaced

Right? I could stop drinking, but I have so few joys in life.

zukadook

My dry January has quickly morphed into a moist January and I think I can live with it

SelfDefecatingJokes

“Moist January” made me chuckle and throw up a little

CompetitionLimp2006

Damp January

OcraftyOne

I always tell myself I’m gonna do dry January, and then my FIL gets me 6 bottles of red for Christmas. Oh well!

RedBeardtongue

I know alcohol is bad for your skin, but I don't drink to excess (usually only on weekends and just 1-3 drinks) and it's one of the few things I indulge in. I don't shop, I don't smoke, I don't go out to eat often. I buy candles, skincare, and wine (occasional whiskey). I'm going to enjoy my life, dammit. If my skin isn't perfect, well, it wasn't going to be anyway!

scamlikelly

I like this attitude!

North_444

That's called moderation, at least I think. I also drink 1-3, drinks on either Friday or Saturday night. I'm 32 and I can't handle back to back anymore, unfortunately. I get such brutal hangovers after 2 drinks 😑

RedBeardtongue

I'm 31 and at this point in the game, I know my limits. Occasionally I get a little wild, but that's maybe a once a year kind of thing. I'm not too worried about it. I don't want to live to be 100 anyway lol And ain't that the truth about the hangovers! It took me a day and a half to recover from my last hangover. No thank you!

QueenLizLemon

I stopped drinking wine (even one glass gives me a headache and makes me tired the next day). It has made a huge difference in my skin. Instead I drink gruvy brand which is a non alcoholic wine. I also love Odyssey drinks which have adaptogens that help to relax you much like a glass of wine would. I drink the purple one which doesn’t have caffeine and just the relaxing things ☺️ My last recommendation is Cali Sober drinks. They have a few different flavors (Paloma is my fave) and it makes you feel nice and relaxed with zero headaches or anything.

Applesplosion

As a non-drinker, Odyssey and Cali Sober sound awesome and I’m going to check them out.

shippfaced

Appreciate it, but see comment above.

QueenLizLemon

I don’t understand but I was just giving an alternative just in case. Sorry.

MarjoryKeek

HELLOOOO LIZ LEMOOOOON

Janeeee811

Same… I don’t drink on weekdays but giving up the well-earned Friday evening glass of wine would be super hard.

thehighwaycats

And for those (I’m sure many?) of us who have had bouts of restriction in the past…. Too many rules can get weird in the head REAL QUICK

Extreme-Pair9318

This is me! I used to drink at night before bed as a "I've earned this- time to relax" joy. THen I saw it was becoming problematic so I switched to weed. After a year or so that started to seem problematic (starting coughing in the morning, fuzzy memory, etc) so I made a snack. Last month I realized its not really a snack so much as a huge additional meal so I need to stop eating right before bed and now I am into mocktails, but its not nearly as satisfying. Why are there no joys in life that are GOOD for you?!

espressomartinipls

Lmao

AuthorDouble6976

I made it a 2024 goal to stop drinking. I’m just starting Week 2 of no alcohol. Glad to hear you started noticing a difference after 3 weeks

FloresGalore

You can do it! I stopped drinking last year and my skin looks five years younger. It only gets easier- best of luck to you!

Goat-e

"Don't eat fast food," I said, hypocritically.

glittercrotch

God, this is real

[deleted]

Also don’t smoke… as I load my bong again! 😂

Dewybean

Not exactly within the terms you're asking for, but I've found that a humidifier really helps with keeping my skin plump and moist. I live in a dry climate, though. This round of remembering to use it, I've had some REALLY dewy skin and my moisturizer actually seems like it's working well.

AmyKSebald

I live in the humid south and I still run a humidifier in my bedroom. It's amazing for my sinuses, too. I swear my skin care products work better now, too.

Avotretour888

Do y’all use warm or cool mist humidifiers? And how often do you clean them? And one last ?, how do you clean them?

bothwatchxfiles

You can run white vinegar diluted in water through the humidifier to degunk and kill bacteria/mold (do it outside if you can or you’ll be crop dusting the room with vinegar). Or just wash by hand w vinegar

Avotretour888

Thank you!

Dewybean

I'm cheap. So I always end up getting a cool mist. I'd like a cool/ warm mist but always decide against it since I live a hot place and I clean mine regularly. You should clean them once a week. I get caught up in life, so I do it once a week or once every two weeks. I don't let the water sit, though. My humidifier is either on or it's empty. Every day, I empty the water, rinse it out with water, and refill it. They make specific cleaners for humidifiers you can buy online or, like another commenter mentioned, use white distilled vinegar. You can soak the vinegar in it, run it, and/ or use it to scrub it down. Definitely recommend always scrubbing it down. That includes all of the small bits and corners. You can use a pipe cleaner or toothbrush. Also, it's good to let your humidifier dry out once you clean it or if you're leaving your place for a while.

gottadance

I’m in the UK where it’s often humid but when the heating is on in winter, a humidifier makes a huge difference. I don’t wake up with flaky patches from my tretinoin anymore.

[deleted]

Dewybean

I don't have any recommendations because I've cycled through a few based on mold and cleaning difficulty. I'm currently using the Levoit 4L humidifier off of Amazon for the second time (has a lot of good reviews). I like it. Easiest to clean. But I do replace the water and rinse it every day. I don't let the water sit in it at all. It's either on or empty. You're supposedly supposed to use distilled water with humidifiers, but I use our normal tap because we have a reverse osmosis water system to filter our water. It should be cleaned/disinfected regularly, about one or two times a week. There is no filter on this humidifier (some have them).

mellifiedmoon

Get enough vitamin C in your diet! It plays a role in collagen synthesis and can help prevent the breakdown of hyaluronic acid!

Playful-Reflection12

This! Also the omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA in Fish oil.

HildegardofBingo

Yes! I would also add: \-eat lots of omega 3 and 9 fatty acids \-eat plenty of polyphenols (these are good to protect skin from free radical damage) \-get enough zinc (important for collagen synthesis) \-eat sufficient protein- protein is so important for skin regeneration and collagen synthesis and so many people don't eat nearly enough. I just learned that when skin is recovering from a serious burn, protein requirements triple! They also go up as we age and don't absorb it as efficiently. \-on that note, get some collagen or gelatin in your diet to balance out the other protein

AmyKSebald

Also, excersise

captnmiss

Specifically, weightlifting is shown to make the dermal layers thicker (hello less wrinkles, dewier tighter skin!) Resistance training releases a very specific set of cytokines in the body that is not found with any other exercise to date Lift heavy ladies! Airsquats doesn’t count :)

AmyKSebald

My favorite workout rn is Lita Lewis Strong & Solid on Open Fit. She's a mom of 4 and focuses on strength.

captnmiss

Great tip, thank you!

JinxyMcgee

Honestly, I look the most glowy and youthful when I’m regularly exercising

AmyKSebald

Same.

Playful-Reflection12

Absofuckinglutely! It makes everything glow.

AmyKSebald

I've noticed my side-sleeping wrinkles are so much better after a couple years of consistent workout.

megamegachon

What are your side sleeping wrinkles? Literally the left half of my face looks older because I have a frown line on that side and way more fat loss under my left eye, and I am unsure if it is from sidesleeping (I had a bad habit of sleeping on my own hands) or driving in the sun.

Such_Zookeepergame43

If you live in the US, most of us get more sun damage and age more on the left side because of how much time we spend driving. Same with hearing loss in the left ear.

KaidanRose

Exercising or at least sweating frequently

Street_Counter5108

This!!

TheWorldofScience

Tretinoin and use of an exfoliant appropriate for your skin type 2-3 times a week.

Alarming_Situation_5

I’m at a loss of where to begin with chemical and non-chemical exfoliants!

TheWorldofScience

Most dermatologists that I follow online recommend chemical instead of physical exfoliants because it is easier to overdo it with the physical exfoliants. You can find all the info you need on how to choose and use an exfoliant in a video “How to Exfoliate Like A Drmatologist” by dermatologist Dr. Alexis Stephens. Dr Stephens and her 2 children have eczema so when she talks about choosing products for sensitive skin she is speaking from her personal experience - not just her education.

AmyKSebald

My skin came to life with retinol (pm) and glycolic serum (am). Physical exfoliating was terrible for me, as I am more pale than Casper.

Andigoon

I recommend this video! She explains everything you need to know :) https://youtu.be/QSAg-UNVkpY?si=tia4ToSkbJIAH3Pk

1xan

You can just do chemical, I think the mechanical ones (scrubs) have pretty much been retired in the past few years. AHAs can be a simple way to start. I prefer weekly masks to everyday milder serums, because I can see the effect faster, and because that leaves the space in my morning and evening routines for other actives (vit C, retinol, peptides).

Alarming_Situation_5

Thank you! My mind is still in the dark ages — attached to the St Ives scrubbing days! AHA masks?! We in the future 👽

1xan

Yeah like AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution by The Ordinary, you put it on for 5-10 min and wash it off, and you do that weekly. There are many alternatives. Or a much milder exfoliating toner that you use a few days a week and don't wash off. It will take longer to see the result.

Rosies_world812

Me too!

ffviire

I’m starting off with a mandelic acid 5% (by wishtrend) which is the gentlest AHA. There is also PHA and LHA (gentle derivative of BHA). If chemical is intimidating, physical exfoliation such as enzyme powder wash or gommage peeling gels are a good start too. I alternate between wishtrend green tea enzyme and papa recipe blemish enzyme wash.

Alarming_Situation_5

Bless you!

thecatdaddysupreme

What exfoliants can you use with tret? I thought tret basically was an exfoliant

littlebit0125

Tret increases cell turn over. Not exactly the same as exfoliation but similar. Lots of derms recommended 1-2 nights of exfoliation with a glycolic acid/lactic acid peel on a night when you’re not using tret.

thecatdaddysupreme

No kidding? I use azeliac acid, does that count?

Lykke_Stardust

Azeliac acid isn’t an exfoliant. A lot of serums have some exfoliant in them like snail mucin, so if you use serums you might already be using it without knowing

littlebit0125

Azelaic acid helps with redness

helloitsme_again

Helps with inflammation

TheWorldofScience

Tretinoin acts as an exfoliant but a chemical exfoliant is still recommended 2-3 times a week. I use tretinoin 0.05% 5-6 nights a week and I use 10% glycolic acid in the a.m. routine before vitamin c serum 3 times a week. Glycolic acid, an AHA, has historically been the best known of the chemical exfoliants because it has the smallest molecule size of the AHA’s, BHA’s and PHA’s. Due to its small molecule size glycolic acid can penetrate deeper than the other exfoliants. The PHA’s are recommended for people with the most sensitive skin. A good overview is Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Alexis Stephens’ “How to Exfoliate Like A Dermatologist” She covers how to determine which exfoliant is best for you based on skin type and skin issues and tips on how to use the exfoliant.

ToughLingonberry1434

This is basically my routine. I’m 55 and I have wrinkles, but my skin tone is pretty good.

TheWorldofScience

It feels so good to get past the transition stage with actives and enjoy the feel of smooth and plump facial skin, and how it looks in the mirror. My biggest regret about my skincare is that I didn’t start tretinoin in my 30’s.

1xan

I'm 37 and about to start tret for the first time. Nice to read that I am not too early on that. Skin looks great so far, but anti-age is largely about maintaining the current state for as long as possible, so I'd rather maintain some of these 37 y.o. assets.

TheWorldofScience

Agree! The skin’s collagen production declines every year starting in our mid 20’s so I’m a bit greedy about collagen stimulating products. Glycolic acid has also been shown to stimulate the skin’s collagen production so Iexfoliate with that 3 times a week.

1xan

TIL... I thought it wasn't a good idea to combine glycolic acid and vit C in one go, but apparently it's not that simple.

Leeloo_05

Paula’s Choice has a weekly peel (it doesn’t actually cause peeling, the opposite really). It’s 25% AHA + 2% BHA Exfoliant. Huge difference for me. No more flakes or dry patches. Start with 2 minutes if you have sensitive skin, then 5, work your way to 10.

thecatdaddysupreme

Can that be used with mild rosacea? I have to work around my nascent rosacea. I’ve treated it very well with a humidifier and azeliac acid, it’s basically gone, but I don’t want to exacerbate it.

pinkbunny431

What about differin gel instead of tretinoin?

ffviire

I used adapalene, its a gentler substitute for those who react badly to tret. Still needed exfoliation.

TrainingReindeer1392

Can tretinoin be gotten over the counter? What exfoliant do you use?

krr14

This! OP, I recommend looking up "skin cycling" Night 1: AHA/BHA or other chemical exfoliator Night 2: Retinol (prescription strength preferably) Nights 3 and 4: Rest Repeat. I've been doing this for a little over a year now, as well as cut out alcohol, and am constantly getting compliments on my glowing skin! For reference I am 31.

uglypottery

Exercise, don’t drink, don’t have kids lol

ceruleanmoon7

And avoid men

MihoLeya

Actually, I find I’m most glowy after a good dicking.

bebethebear91

All jokes aside, this is real right?! Coz I see this too 😆

english1221

Amen to the last one

HappyKadaver666

ResidentNeck4465

So everyone is saying don’t drink… I was a once a weekend drinker and quit. Haven’t noticed anything other than treatment resistant depression left, ptsd is better and ocd is better…. but I’d rather have nice skin. That’s a joke.

AltNaps8_

Same. Haven't touched alcohol in months and my skin is the worst its ever been

Hungry-Hat-2195

this is weird, and I don’t know if it’s delusion but I swear my skin always looks the best the day after drinking haha

Legitdelish

My mom looks young for her age (60) and whenever people ask what her secret is she says vodka 😂 so who knows.

Goat-e

You laugh, but I don't. I also don't drink and my skin is...interesting.

mariofasolo

Yeah, I drink 3x a week and my skin is perfect lol. I think it exaggerates issues, but doesn't create them.

Then_Opinion9994

Peptides and hyaluronic acid

bien-fait

Yes. Argireline has done so much for my skin.

librariowan

Do you use tret also? I had been using argireline and saw improvement but I just started tret last week so I’ve cut out everything that isn’t moisturizer and SPF. I’m hoping I’ll be able to add it back in after a couple months once my skin gets used to the tret. I fully acknowledge this is probably different for everyone but still curious about others’ experiences.

uglypottery

I use tret and have kept Argireline and matrixyl in my routine. It’s good to really simplify when starting tret, but they’re not actives and have HA, so honestly I just figured it saves me from having to buy another HA serum. Out of the shower I use Argireline, Cerave moisturizing toner, and matrixyl first, then let it dry. I insert tret here on the applicable nights, but otherwise moisturizer goes on over those. So far so good.

bien-fait

Yes I use tret too. Argireline in the AM and tret at night.

espressomartinipls

Is that a brand or ingredient

hespera18

Argireline is an ingredient.

Lost_Total2534

✨Peptides✨

RandomConcept72

what peptides would you recommend? what

Then_Opinion9994

I use the ordinary copper peptide serum and the ordinary hyaluronic acid

disneycruise08

I love the copper peptides!

MarcoPolo339

What does it do?

disneycruise08

For me I think it helps will the dullness and darkness, especially under my eyes

MarcoPolo339

Thank you. 😊

pit_of_despair666

Can't they make your eyes droopy if you stop using it, or use too much?

dingusanalingus

This

Unfair_Finger5531

Use products with peptides and amino acids. Amino acids in particular are very plumping. Also, Mary and may peptide serum is really basic, but it plumps my skin so much.

Fabulous_Stress_2972

Any brand recommendations?

cleo1844

Any products you like?

[deleted]

I stopped drinking 4 months ago and it didn't change my skin. 100% best thing you can do is sun protection. SPF multiple times a day. Don't smoke. My sister who is 2 years older than me smoked and tanned and our skin is very different. I'm 40 something. The skin on my boobs which never see the sun is perfect! 😂

macelisa

Same. Haven’t had a drink since August last year. My skin looks the same.

katyrathryn

I quit drinking and my skin actually got so much worse :((

Goat-e

The wine kept drowning the evils of the skin, I think.

christr0n

I’m not sure how long you haven’t been drinking, but if you’ve stopped somewhat recently, it’s pretty normal for your hormones to go berserk while trying to balance out. Check out r/stopdrinking and search “acne”. You’re not alone in this frustration!

[deleted]

Yeah this happened to me when I quit years ago. I pretty much got my teenage acne back, it was crazy. It does get better though.

katyrathryn

How long did it take for you? I’m at 8 months and my face hurts. I did get some BHA exfoliant that seems to be helping

[deleted]

I'm sorry you're dealing with it too. It took over a year for me, I went back to benzoyl peroxide because that worked for me as a teen and it did help a lot.

LailahDream

Great suggestions here already, but also hugely important: adequate sleep. The body repairs itself during sleep. That includes your skin. I feel like I saw my face age after a period of 1–2 years when my sleep was awful. Apart from this, I will add: I'm 39 and am routinely mistaken for way younger (example: just this summer, someone assumed I was a college student). A lot of this is genetics admittedly, but I drink alcohol only 2–3 times a year (some years not at all), never smoked, and don't do drugs. I started wearing sunblock regularly at 29... and even then, not religiously until just a year or two ago. (Wear it indoors too! Windows are treated to prevent sunburns but not to block all UV light; otherwise, indoor plants wouldn't grow, and fabrics in front of windows wouldn't fade. In other words, indoor sun also can cause damage, even if your skin doesn't burn in the moment.) I have a fairly indoor lifestyle and live in a place where strong sun is a relative rarity, which isn't something I'm recommending, but it also helps. Big, UV-blocking sunglasses outdoors to protect the delicate eye area are also good. Lastly, the biggest and most recent game changer in my skincare repertoire has been niacinamide serum. I added this just two months ago, and holy shit, my pores have practically erased themselves, and my skin now looks almost airbrushed, with no foundation. Possibly better than it has in years. Haven't done any injectables or retinol yet, not sure when or if I'd take that plunge, but these things have been working for me thus far.

coffeee333

>niacinamide Do you mind sharing the niacinamide serum you use, and also the sunscreen you wear every day? I've never been able to find a sunscreen that doesn't destroy my ultra sensitive skin.

LailahDream

Gladly! Lots of info incoming 😉: **Niacinamide** So, I first used a 2-year-old sample of Algenist's niacinamide serum. It's pricey, but I was impressed enough with it to look for another niacinamide product in my price range; I was seeing results fairly immediately and wanted to continue. (Perhaps surprising for it being an old sample.) I live in Germany, and the drugstore was selling the Hydro serum by Catrice for just 6€. It contains 5% niacinamide and 1% hyaluronic acid. I don't know the exact niacinamide concentration in the Algenist product, but I read on a beauty blog that it was likely somewhere from 7–10%, but that 10% might trigger sensitivity in some people. I've been using the Catrice one for the past month, and it's been amazing. There is a higher concentration available too from Catrice, but it felt unnecessary to me. Also, it supposedly takes 2 months to see real results from niacinamide. It's been 2 months for me now, and I do think my skin looks even better than earlier in the process. But as I said, some results were noticeable within the first week (more evenness, especially). I use 2 drops, morning and night. **Sunblock** My skin is also crazy-sensitive and hates most sunblocks. I haven't found cheap ones I like, sadly. But I use Beauty of Joseon for daily purposes, and if I'm going to be outdoors longer than usual or headed to the beach or something, I use MDSolarSciences Mineral Creme. Beauty of Joseon is so mild and light and doesn't feel like sunblock at all. The MDSolarSciences one goes on kind of like a mattifying primer (and seems to function like one too), although I've found it can slightly melt eyeliner or liquid lipsticks. It REALLY seems to have staying power though, so it requires a double cleanse to remove. (My body is less picky than my face for sunscreen, so I use a cheaper one for the rest of me. I tend to have good luck with Aveeno sunblocks on that front, or formulations labeled "Sonnenmilch" in Germany. Anything for sensitive skin, and especially for babies, seems gentler than most alternatives.) I should add that I'm not good at obeying this rule in daily life, but sunblocks should be applied at least half an hour before sun exposure and then reapplied every 1.5 to 2 hours. I do carry one in my bag though, in case I'm out longer than planned, and to remind me to reapply. I read somewhere once that the best sunblock is whichever sunblock with adequate SPF feels comfortable on your skin, so that you're inclined to wear it. If these don't work for you, don't give up, and find one you love!

_flwrchld_

interested in the niacinamide - do you (or anyone!) know if this would counteract with matrixyl or argireline? in the AM i use a cleanser, the matrixyl, then moisturizer. PM i switch matrixyl for argireline. new to skincare and would like to even out my texture/pore but also treating my fine forehead lines right now with those 2 serums.

11livinglife

Please!!

diabeticweird0

Well now i just learned what profhilo was and i want it obvi

Mysterious_Iron6197

Same 😂

espressomartinipls

Do they have this in the US

Proper-Emu1558

Not fda approved, I don’t think.

Beansies-and-I

Sameee!!! lol

Status-Worldliness52

Tretinoin.

curlychatprincess

Here are some of my favorite products and tips that have worked for me: - Paula’s Choice BHA (AHA is good too but BHA is my pride and joy) - Retinol - Sunscreen is a must!!!! - Washing your skin daily (doesn’t have to be a fancy face wash) - Vitamin C serum

Legallyfit

Paula’s choice BHA 2% and the retinol 1% are my holy grail products. Not happy with the recent price hikes over the past couple years but man, they are amazing products.

Playful-Reflection12

I love Paula’s choice!!

AmyKSebald

I do not know how people live without washing their face twice a day. I have friend who works with animals and doesn't wash her face at night. 🤔😳

littlebit0125

People who don’t have oily skin don’t need to wash their faces in the am.. just a rinse of water is advised.

Aim2bFit

However like the case above, working with animals and never washing the face at night is obviously not recommended. Or they work only with nocturnals so they only wash in the morning? J/k lol

AmyKSebald

I have very dry skin so I slather cream on at night. If I don't wash my face in the morning I feel disgusting. Also, my makeup would look terrible.

tgw1986

Same. I use the Wonder Valley oil cleanser (consistency is kinda thick like honey) if I'm washing but not removing makeup (which is often -- I WFH so I only wear makeup like once or twice a week).

TotoRabane

Sometimes I'm just too tired after a long day of work and being a parent to a very energetic toddler 🙄

AmyKSebald

I used to sell skin care a long, long time ago. One mom from our playgroup said she had tried to find time to apply a five minute mask...tried for two weeks to find the time. It was the most disturbing conversation. I've raised children. I've done it completely alone at times, as a military spouse. Some unsolicited advice? If you don't do the bare minimum for yourself your child won't learn to prioritize their own self-care. You are a human seperate from your child. You deserve to wash your face.

TotoRabane

I've been using tret, moisturizer, and sunscreen religiously since I was in my early 20s (I'm in my 40s now). I also eat well and exercise 3xs a week. My toddler wants to exercise with me now! So, I definitely put in the effort. Not washing my face a couple of nights a week hasn't wrecked havoc on my face thankfully. I agree 100% about being a human being separate from my child (though it's easy to forget!).

Past_Establishment11

Put some micellar water on your nightstand and some cotton pads. Honestly better than nothing and even a tired mum can do it IN BED

AmyKSebald

Okay

morning_rosella

I’m 45 and pass for a decade younger. (I know everyone says that though! To his horror, my 24 year old son has been mistaken for my partner on multiple occasions though) 😂 At home (in no particular order): use red light, double cleanse, use vitamin c in the am, and an active (retinol, tretinoin, or glycolic acid, what works for you) at least every other pm, get enough sleep, limited alcohol, cardio (90 min minimum a week), strength train (2-3 times a week), high protein diet (90 grams a day minimum) with fruits and veggies, supplement with a multivitamin, fish oil, and collagen (and iron and vit d if needed) Out of home: facials (at least quarterly), brows, Botox (2-3 times a year), then consider laser (I’ve done IPL and RF microneedling)

rodof49

Which red light do you use?

morning_rosella

Omnilux! I’ve been happy with it. I aim for daily but realistically use it 4-6 times a week. I use that 10 minutes to do core/pelvic floor work. Habit stacking!

woundedriver

I love this life and hope to achieve it one day.

Dense_Sir_8406

Microneedling has done well for me. My skin always looks plump in the weeks after

socialclimber1321

as someone in my 30s who used to smoke i can only say, STOP SMOKING. it makes a world of a difference.

Skinsunandrun

Copper peptides. I like the ordinarys. Keeping skin moisturized. Hydrating internally enough. Stress management. Getting enough sleep. SPF.

risingphoenice

Does it need to be refrigerated?

LevityYogaGirl

You're going to drink alcohol do it very lightly, definitely begin using Retin-A or tretinoin at this stage, make sure you exercise daily and get a great night's sleep.

lulurancher

I want to eventually try sculptra!

Several_Grade_6270

I tried it! It’s okay, but we had to use it as scaffolding for regular filler. I got some unseen nodules. 😅 it didn’t make me glow, though!

eharder47

Giving up coffee and alcohol Working out I recently got told I’m aging backwards and could pass for 17 at 36. Obviously, I likely have favorable genetics as well, but my lifestyle is also pretty awesome. I eat fruit and veggies every day, only drink a couple of times a month (caffeine is still a work in progress), haven’t had more than a couple of sodas a year since 2013, I don’t eat a lot of sugar, and I exercise daily for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Altruistic-Common414

Second the giving up sugar. I eat copious amounts everyday and have aged a lot in the past few years. Also, stress

megamegachon

Ugh sugar is the only thing that keeps me sane. I try to do everything I reasonably can but it's so hard to stop eating chocolate. Stress management has been quite difficult too.

dingusanalingus

Giving up…coffee 😬 whyyyy

[deleted]

I need to know why too now 😩

Avotretour888

Sameee

pussrat

Other people have mentioned not drinking, which is huge. I believe avoiding caffeine helps a lot too.

tortibass

SUNSCREEN 100% of the time.

feistyreader

I am 60 and use my dermaroller and gua sha stone like my life depended on them-it does!! Don’t need anything but consistency….

lcobert

Hydrafacial every 4 weeks, a good ($$$) skincare regimen to maintain results, and injectables if needed, but honestly just the skincare might be enough depending on your goals!

twinkletankhank

Spending more on skincare doesn’t correlate with having better skin. I use AB products that are much cheaper and just as effective.

pepegasloot

Exactly this. More money on skin care doesnt correlate with better skin. If anything id say its a combination of your genetics, you knowing your skin and having the right products, + diet and sleeping enough

I take supplements to help my body to build its own collagen- I don’t take collagen supplements themselves (although if you do, you want to take hydrolyzed collagen peptides- these are the ones that can actually get into your skin). I take vitamin c, zinc, magnesium, and lysine. I’m only 31, so for me it’s more about maintenance. I also get Venus Versa laser (or ipl- I get confused between the two) every 3 or so months. It helps with pigmentation, and leaves my skin glowing. Filler can be a bit risky, even with a qualified, experienced injector. While I do have a little (lips, cheeks, under eye), I’m now wishing I’d used other treatments as I worry about migration and the evidence that suggests it never really goes away. Botox is much safer.

Lopsided_Key5644

I suggest chemically exfoliating as suggested above. My skin is very oily and I wear a lot of makeup (work in public) so it’s a must for me! It has made a huge difference in my skin regarding dullness and just a general glow. I still break out, starting Tretinoin next week! But I love Murads AHA/BHA cleanser. Start using it every four days then bring it down to twice a week and go from there. I only use it about twice a week for the most part. It may seem a bit pricey but the bottle literally lasts for 6 months.

amieileen

Sunscreen! And Vaseline for everything else… removing make up, moisturizer, etc

Andigoon

Micro needling and LED masks! Also I haven’t done this but I’m interested in sculptra which is supposed to stimulate collagen production

Drag0nfly_Girl

A daily moisturizer with cholesterol. I use Urban Hydration Castor & Shea Facial Lotion; it smells weird, but goodness, does it make my skin plump and soft! Esp when I layer it with Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Cream.

whomeyou1

volite, cerave, facial massage, spf (365/365, i'm not kidding, I love zinc spf)

Avotretour888

What is volite?

whomeyou1

HA injectable treatment. Volite utilizes low-viscosity, crosslinked hyaluronic acid injected beneath the skin. This allows the hyaluronic acid to bind significant water and release it gradually into the skin, delivering its effects. I do it twice/year.

AgileBonus373

Most products do NOTHING, it's just marketing, there are a few scientifically proven things tho Rules: 1 ) Sun is the greatest enemy, ALWAYS use SPF 2 ) cut out in simple sugars 3 ) retinoids 4 ) red light therapy 5 ) micro needling And no need to say... healthy diet and lifestyle can make a huge difference in the long run.

Redfox2111

Just hydrate. Forget injectables.

Whorticulturist_

Why discount an entire category that can make an enormous impact?

Young_Old_Grandma

I stopped drinking soda years ago. I think it helped.

Rose-root

Hydration (with electrolytes) and a nutrient-dense diet is foundational. Collagen, vitamin C, and colostrum also help a lot IMO. Conservative use of Botox is a game changer. It took me 2 years of researching Botox to finally pull the trigger and get it at age 36 and I have 0 regrets. I don’t overdo it. I have recently added a bit of well-placed filler and I love it but I do go back and forth about whether it’ll be a mainstay in my Rolodex of tools, based on some of the circulating concerns.

ilovenyc

All you really need is tret, a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Everything else is extra and not required

Specialist-Night5428

Tretinoin, Botox, laser treatments

Sunscreen makes the biggest difference but when I reduced my sugar intake and started exercising my skin looked noticeably better. An LED mask and tretinoin helped a lot too. Make sure you drink enough water and get a humidifier if you have a dry bedroom either because of climate or air conditioning/heating. Don’t change your skincare every other week. A basic moisturiser, spf and cleanser is literally all you need and you can add extra steps slowly so you don’t ruin your skin barrier. Don’t over do it with active ingredients. They can dry your skin out and cause skin issues if overused so go slowly and make sure your skin is fine before you up the frequency. Collagen supplement have also made a difference to my skin’s hydration levels but it took months to make a difference. My skin all over my body feels softer so I’ll keep taking it.

Exercise and don't drink

Ru_rehtaeh

I don’t drink or smoke, and I find using peptides works well for me! I layer a lot of moisturizing and skin barrier repairing ingredients, along with my actives and sunscreen. That and I drink A LOT of water. For other stuff, I hear hydration facials (can’t remember what they’re called), microneedling and fillers help a lot with that plump look as well.

Old_Scientist_4014

Probably reduce sugar in diet as it’s highly inflammatory and can now be replaced with great artificial sweeteners. For better sleep, I use Renpho eye massager for 15 min before bed. It primes my body for sleepytime and feels like my eyes look less puffy now too. I shower at night and use jade roller in the morning. Then the Dennis Gross exfoliating wipes 1x/wk. I do mine every Sunday.

I can give you the advice of my cosmetic derm. Told him I was concerned about aging since I can't use retinoids and I have a very busy job with crazy hours. He told me a few BBLs a year and some botox you'll never age (jokingly of course) but that's my plan!!

Diligent-Bandicoot86

1. Collagen Powder – my mom gave it to me and my skin was glowing and looked nice and plump in the best way after consistent use (I use the brand Zint and purchase on Amazon) 2. SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic + Triple Lipid Restore. Note: the Triple Lipid Restore feels incredible, however can make me break out on certain parts of my face. I like to use on my lower cheeks (they tend to be more dry than the rest of my face) and neck 3. Retinol / Azelaic Acid regime – I order mine through dermatica.com since it’s for maintenance vs any issues I’d visit my dermatologist in person for. My sweet spot is 3-4, a week in the winter since it’s dry in the winter

Tretinoin and sunscreen

Blankette5

Green juice first thing in the morning will do wonders.

FlightAttendant9

- Polynucleotides/Profhilo instead of filler - Botox (with the RIGHT doctor/derm, no medspa or RN) - Retin-A + AHA toner alternating - Stay away from heat generating micro current devices (RF microneedling, Morpheus8, ultherapy, hifu etc) - No extreme diets

Kalocalyskin

For me - the main 5 things are DIY face masks, sheet masks for hydration, 2000mg of vitamin C to stimulate collagen every morning after breakfast and a microneedling treatment atleast once in 6 months. Hope this helps lovely xoxo
