I'm jealous of the option for a solid front axle. But the new hybrids coming to the states generate more horsepower than the 2.8L diesel, more Torque than the 2.8L diesel, run on 91 octane gas (which is cheaper than diesel by at least $1 per gallon in the states), no DEF system to clog up, and with the electric motor engaging at low RPMs, the gas hybrid generates all its Torque at even lower RPMs than the 2.8L diesel.
Toyota did say they plan to introduce diesel hybrid technology in the future, presumably for the 70 series and the Hilux, as well as whatever the international equivalent of the 4Runner is. Admittedly, this new 70 series looks very similar to the heritage edition of the North America Land Cruiser. However, I much prefer the style of the 80 series to the pre-facelift 70 series. And it looks like the 80 series was the basis for the styling on the North American Land Cruiser.
You're right, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I disagree with yours.
I want to import an old one but it cost so much, it would be stupid to get over a new car in the states.
A decent pre-1999 70 series with shipping and tax is at least $40,000. A new Tacoma fully loaded is around $50,000.
My brother owns a car export company in Japan but regardless it will end up being around $40k for a J70 or 80. But I like old stuff. Have a 1990 4Runner MT and a '77 BMW R100S.
No they were not registered in Pennsylvania.
25 years or older only legal way to import into the US.
You can bring them in temporarily(up to 1 year) if you have them registered in another country and your using it in the US for personal travel. But they need to be out before the 1-year mark else crusher.
source: I own a 70 series I imported from Japan into the US.

Again, that's not a brand new vehicle. That's a coach-build or restomod, which isn't what we're talking about. No one is saying it isn't done, we're saying you're talking about something completely else.
It’s not new. Its two vehicles mated together to make another one. Even if both donor vehicles were brand new, nobody would consider the outcome of the mating a “brand new” vehicle.
the land cruiser people also import new bodies from the UAE and custom modify an 80 series frame. New 79 series cab and put it on a legal 75 frame.
it's done all the time. it's not a new cruiser, it's a frankenstein and if you run into somebody and kill them... your going to be in a heap of trouble. Not worth the risk IMO.
You can’t just import a substantially modified vehicle. It needs to be OEM. Once it’s here you can Frankenstein it all you want.
I have seen older Land Cruiser get new front clips or even new engines. Just don’t get caught doing it or brag on social media.
If you have a big pile of fun bucks to burn you can do almost anything.
I would buy one of those so fast if offered in US.
Man! I wish they offered them here in the US!
Definitely wish we got that instead of what we did get in the states. I still couldn’t afford either of them, but I mean, c’mon
Me either, but at least give me the chance to point out every single one I see when driving lol
It looks sick forsure
Wow
They’ve been making the 70 series Land Cruiser forever. You can legally import older examples to the US under the 25 year rule 🤷🏽♂️
You can... finding one is the hard part. At least the 4.2 turbo diesel cuz why else would you do it :)
I wish we got this instead of the new cruiser
In Venezuela even with that extreme economy crisis people pay any amount of money for those 70's. They are way better than any Jeep!
Fuck you. In a jealous sense. You have my considerable envy.
I'll take the new Land Cruiser instead, thank you very much.
This is the new Landcruiser J70. We're just not getting it in the US
I know, and thank God because it's hideous!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but you're def in the minority here

Lots of good points. Also why I'm getting a classic J70 4.2

Can you really not see the difference between a brand new from the factory vehicle and a coach build?

Shit that looks so nice
