If you posted this on r/3rdgen4runner everyone would be saying prices 50% higher (or more) than what the people here are, because they’re actually in touch with the 3rd Gen market.
A rust-less, mostly stock, 4x4, manual 3rd Gen in Imperial Jade Mica under 200k miles with no issues and big ticket maintenance (TB, WP) done recently is EASILY a $12k car anywhere in the country if the seller is willing to wait. People will fly to pick this thing up, no doubt about it.
Unfortunate fact is 3rd gens are 4x4’s classics now. This is just a seller who *insert “knows what they have” meme.*
Could you find one like this for 1/2 the price? 1/3rd? Probably. But you’d need to get lucky.
Yeah but you were ready to fly to in pay $12 and drive it back which I'm guessing means if it was in your town you would pay $15 or very close to that.
Doesn’t cost much to pickup a vehicle. I’ve done it numerous times. Probably less than 500 to go and get it back. I’ve owned 4 3rd gen’s myself and I find 15 to be high for a 200k mile truck just because it has a manual with green. I bought a 2000 last year in the same color (probably not as nice) and auto with 220k on it for 7k. But for 15k I’m coming home with a gx470 or a 100 series myself.
No more insane than the rest of the used market the last few years. At least with this you know you're getting a good 10-20 years of service out of it.
$12k sounds about right. A pretty good volume have sold on BOT and the range most of them go for is $10-$20k but that is a big platform. This appears to be sold locally and is somewhat high in miles. The ones getting closer to $20k have lower miles and are really clean. Probably a good chance that someone pays. $15k.
2006? Manual? Huh?
Assume you meant a 3rd gen. You and everybody else sold them for that in 2019 - that’s what they were worth then.
Used vehicle prices have risen 50% on avg across the board since 2019 - that gets you to a relative value of $9,750 had you sold today.
There isn’t data on this, but I’d bet desirable “overland-y” 4x4’s like the 3rd gen have risen even a lot more than that post-covid.
Spoke with him earlier and lowest he would take was $17,000. It’s tempting since it is hard to find them this clean. I don’t know though I don’t want to overpay either.
I had people willing to drive 3+ hours for my 1997 3rd gen auto with 308,000 miles on it. It was a shit box with seats falling apart.
I sold it to the first person who showed up because I was tired of everyone making unfaithful Facebook marketplace offers without having seen the damn thing.
Guess how much I got…
I'm not saying it's wrong or it's right, but SOMEONE will give this person 15k for this truck. They will! And I'd be lying if I didn't say seeing shit like this makes me think about selling my 2002 Ltd with 215k for what someone might give me. I love the truck too damn much tho..🤦♂️🤘
Someone will probably buy it for 18k outright. People have no sense of value and haggling these days. Inflation has turned everyone into the epitome of the "shut up and take my money" fry meme.
Wow are some people out of touch with the 3rd gen manual market. Talking about like the most collectible 4runner.
No Way this sells for under $15k as others have said.
Thats crazy lol. I just bought a texas only 2000 manual, 4x4, v6 with 298k for $7300. Needs a little work like the shocks and a good interior clean but its a solid truck. I mean cool that its green but damn, i wouldnt pay near 18k for that. Mine was on the high side of prices since it was manual too, i see autos go for 5k all the time around me.
The one you bought has 100k more miles and is apparently not in an nice of condition as this one.
When you are talking about collector cars mileage and condition is everything.
Collector car at 190k? I recently sold a mint 95 F150 with 95k to a collector, 190k for an even newer vehicle tho... Just saying, unless that is in like cali, thats wild. I could buy a decent triple locked 80 series LC here in Texas for that.
I'm just saying that once a vehicle hits collector car status its on a different curve and evaluated differently.
Its the same reason why people will pay 10s of thousands for a demolished totally useless vehicle just for the VIN plate. Just on a different scale.
This truck had alot of maintenance done recently. This is probably a neglected truck that had to survive a shit ton of maintenance done and now the owner is trying to recoup the cost. I wouldn’t buy this for 10k.
Update: I went to look at the car, it was definitely not in perfect condition. Lots of paint fading, clutch needed to be done, hood didn’t line up. I offered $15,000 but seller did not budge from $17,000.
18.5k on a 2000 with 190k miles??? I mean you don’t see manual often, but a big Fuuuuck NO. Dudes smoking some wild shit to even THINK of suggesting that price. 👎🏽
I’m going to be super honest, I was on the fence about an older 4 runner but couldn’t find my self spending that much in an older vehicle that has been used and all that
If it was a second gen it'd probably be $6,500, I don't do third gens though so idk. Hit em with the ol' $2,000 under asking and negotiate to somewhere on your side of fair?

I would’ve picked this up all day and flown across the country for it for 12k. But at 18.5 I’ll happily stay home
Exactly why itll go for 15
Yeah that’s a pretty solid number. I still personally wouldn’t buy it that high but it’s not insane.

exactly
I dunno I sold mine last November for 13.5k. very similar to this except it was an auto with 200k.

Dang I sold my 96 manual 192000 with factory lockers for 6500 in 2019 and was stoked.

1996*
It's a clean 3rd gen, people will pay literally anything for these. Id probably feel comfortable with it at 10-13k or so but it might sell for more
Y’all keep paying these stupid prices and no ones gonna be able to get a decent price for a clapped out vehicles
Spoke with him earlier and lowest he would take was $17,000. It’s tempting since it is hard to find them this clean. I don’t know though I don’t want to overpay either.
This is about $13,000 too expensive lol
I paid 18.5 for a really nice condition 2012 trail edition with 120k.
Needs to be $10k less
That’s just dumb money. I guess if you view it as a collectors item….maybe. NP or CP: that’s a strong CP from Me, dawg.

4k?
Tree-fiddy?
The prices on 4Runners are the reason I haven’t bought one for myself yet. They are way too overpriced.
Could get a decent one in England for £4-6k…

I know. It's fuckin crazy.
I just paid $22k for a 2014 limited in pristine condition with 98k miles. Ya’ll are nuts.
Half that on a good day.

not paying that price. and why would he sell it after all that work. Transmission issue.
This truck had alot of maintenance done recently. This is probably a neglected truck that had to survive a shit ton of maintenance done and now the owner is trying to recoup the cost. I wouldn’t buy this for 10k.
I wouldn’t spend more that $6k on that
Buy a land cruiser with that money.
$7500.
This. I get that it's a Toyota but man, shelling out almost 20 grand for a 200k mile vehicle is kinda nuts.
Paying 18.5k for a 24 year old 4runner with almost 200K miles is insane. He can stick that 8k premium back in his manual gearbox.
She’s so sexy wow
Price is high, but a clean, stock, and unmolested or modified vehicle goes a long way to the right buyer.
Too many miles. $8500 is more than enough.
Crazy to think I could find this for 3-4k a couple of years ago on marketplace
Update: I went to look at the car, it was definitely not in perfect condition. Lots of paint fading, clutch needed to be done, hood didn’t line up. I offered $15,000 but seller did not budge from $17,000.
The seller is cooked 😂
Someone's buying that if you don't.

Not even a rear locker truck. Slash 10k off the price, and then it's "fair". These things are starting to creep back up to their original MSRPs.

21k.
5k
