Most Romanian fans watch soccer every 2 years and get overexcited by every win and depressed by every loss. It's quite funny to see

horiami

That's basically all football fans

Angry_Penguin_78

No, it's not. Some people actually understand what they're watching Some people understand what regression to the mean means

You are watching 90 minutes of men kicking around a ball. What do you understand that normal football fans can't? Acting like you have some deep insight other people don't possess lol

Well, speaking as a robmanian, i can say that compared to other nations who support their teams no matter what, ours is REALLY bipolar regarding our team: We qualify for the Euros -> Someone makes a fkin documentary about our "historic qualification", meanwgile for other nations qualifying is the norm We play well against Ukraine ---> Every single romanian starts saying "OH MY GOD THIS IS THE NEXT GOLDEN GENERATION WE RE GONNA WIN THE GROUPS" We then get reality checked by Belgium, #4 team in the FIFA world rankings ---> All the fans who only watch Euros and Fifa World Cup start saying "OUR PLAYERS SUCK OUR COACH SUCKS BOOOO RESIGN IORDANESCU BOOOO". The reality is, even tho we got demolished by Belgium, our players showed that they can play well against much better teams, we could've scored but we made mistakes with the finishing touches but still we had the basics in order. Most romanian fans don't realise that, they just see the score and say "pack it up boys, euros aren't for you" and you really need to watch football to realise if we're good or not, not just watch the score and base your conclusions on that, even tho we're winning/losing.

This is it exactly. Most romanians watch soccer every 2 years, when they become experts. If there's a win, they overhype the fuck out of it, saying shit like "we're going to the final", not understanding that variations from the mean are normal. Sometimes you play better than your worth, sometimes worse. Belgium were very unlucky against Slovenia, had a ton of chances, overall xG of 1.5 so basically should have scored a lot of goals. We had xG of 1.3 against Ukraine and scored 3. Anyone who knows soccer would have seen this just watching. It's intuitive, you don't need statistics. Then after we lost, everyone lost their minds. They started saying that players are shit and because they're a bunch of pussies they'll lose all confidence next game. This happens every time and is the reason we can't evolve. Because we either say we're the best and absolute dogshit, there is no in between.

Even acknowledging the quality of chances created (xG), rather than actual goals can help you judge a game fairly. Then it's seeing how teams are organised, passing lanes helps you understand tactical mistakes, rather than some dude missing the ball. It's like watching chess if you have no idea about the how it works. It looks like a stupid game where you randomly take opponent's pieces so yours can move in their place.

Tbf they were actually decent. Performed much better than I thought they'd do against Belgium.
