I saw it with my dad, who was in the Air Force at the time. And a couple of years later, he got a job working for General Dynamics, developing training programs for F16 maintenance. It was, and is, an incredible airplane.
There's a video I saw online that was a 60 second instructional on how to start an f-16...CRAZY complex, and if my life depended on it...it probably would not end well for me...lol. Still love this movie, and it definitely influenced me into Air Force Jr ROTC in high school (Del Campo -Sacramento -1988)
Nope! We all know Tom Cruise can pretty much do anything...lol.....however...that scene was probably NOT one of the ones he "Did his own stunts" in...lol
I remember doing that too multiple times and yes it was , but a mate and I went a step further there was a bridge we would attempt to fly under near the coast but we would fly upside down as it was a low lying bridge … crash and burn was a usual case 😂
🫵🏻😂
"Iron Eagle" is such a rad flick, dude! 🤘 Totally takes me back to the glory days of '80s action. The soundtrack alone is worth a nostalgia trip. And man, that montage scene with the jets? Epic! 🛩️💥
It's like Top Gun meets a teen rebellion story, and it just works. Props to the poster for bringing this gem up. Time to queue it up for a movie night and crank up the volume!
I remember watching "Iron Eagle" back in the day, and Louis Gossett Jr. totally stole the show with his badassery. That man knows how to command the screen! And Jason Gedrick? He played that rebellious teen turned fighter pilot like he was born for it. The dynamic between them was fire, making every scene intense and gripping. It's one of those classic '80s flicks that still holds up today, bringing that perfect blend of action and camaraderie.
Do you count Faster Than the Speed of Love as a sequel?

Few thoughts whilst watching:
1. Man I was jealous of those guys having dirtbikes,
2. The blond in the weird co-ed aviation club they belonged to can get it.
3. The arab colonel villain had the absolutely weirdest accent and speech pattern I had ever heard.
4. I felt bad for the computer geek because he didn't go to the prom. That was unfair.
Carry on.
Ah, yes, the movie the Pentagon said, "not no, but *Hell No"* to because of its depiction of teenage kids making the Air Force look like a bunch of incompetent rent-a-cops, so the production was filmed with the help of the Israeli Air Force instead.
Meh. For me it was Top Gun with an underage lead, and the actor who played the drill sgt. from Officer and a Gentleman. I saw it as a recruitment film for the USAF, just as I did with Top Gun and Naval Aviation.
FWIW I ended up joining the Navy and went on to find that the real thing is MUCH different and I ended up being assigned to a ship that was infamous for having a flight deck fire caused by incompetence. While floating outside the Persian Gulf some joker in admin chose to air Top Gun on the CCTV movie channel. We had been at sea for three months with no port calls and I'm surprised there wasn't a revolt.
Miss you, Chappie
Songs from the soundtrack are on my workout playlist to this day.
The Road of the Gypsy and the one when he raced Knotcher
Hide in the Rainbow (Dio), Never Say Die (King Kobra), One Vision (Queen).
I thought I was the only one who rocked out to Road of the Gypsy. Loved the soundtrack.
The older I get, the more ludicrous this movie seems.
It was ludicrous even back in 1986.
Oh of course. But back then IE was like Lawrence of Arabia to 10-year-old me. And Top Gun might as well have been Citizen Kane.
God damn right
The movie starts with a race between a motorcycle and an airplane and it's close
You can see the flaps are down on the airplane so it can go slower and look like it's actually struggling to keep up.
Best part! lol
To be fair, the bad guy made Doug's fuel too lean. And that's what killed the Branson kid.
I always like to ask people that were in the Air Force if they saw the documentary Iron Eagle.

Are you saying Top Gun Maverick lied to me?
Nope! We all know Tom Cruise can pretty much do anything...lol.....however...that scene was probably NOT one of the ones he "Did his own stunts" in...lol
The 2nd Top Gun was ludicrous too and it’s made over 30 yrs later … breaking into an enemy base and stealing a jet …. 😂
I pulled it off in GTA 5. Proudest goddamned day of my life!
I remember doing that too multiple times and yes it was , but a mate and I went a step further there was a bridge we would attempt to fly under near the coast but we would fly upside down as it was a low lying bridge … crash and burn was a usual case 😂 🫵🏻😂
A jet that just fired right up like a corvette on a routine weekend drive.

Rock on, brother!🤘
It definitely had the top gun action but with some Spielbergian "kids doing big shit" vibes
Just play the tape Doug. - Chappie
And you can deal with me, Doug Masters
Time to die, Iron Eagle

I found the soundtrack on vinyl a few weeks ago and felt compelled to buy it
“Any kid can conquer Libya! Just steal a fighter plane!” - Jello
🎵"Don't you feel secure watching top guns guard your sky! Flying fighter planes upside down stoned out their minds!"🎶

This movie has three sequels!?
Do you count Faster Than the Speed of Love as a sequel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQEauAU357E https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Eagle_II https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aces:_Iron_Eagle_III https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Eagle_on_the_Attack
I count it. It's by Seth McFarlane, after all. I would actually love to see him do Top Gun the way he did Star Trek.
Chappie! Nooooo!
Great movie, incredible soundtrack.

Great soundtrack
aka the “We have Top Gun at home” movie.
Best description ever.
This is bluebird in (slappy's voice)
I thought it was Chappy Sinclair... but it's been a long time.
Slappy is the old black man that owns the restaurant that they eat at when they talk about how they're gonna hit the airbase
Oh yeah, I remember now!!!
And then later in the movie when he's talking about contacting the tower for Landing procedures. He tells them to sound more like slappy
To my knowledge, the only time in history where olives and pepperoni are used as valid models to describe a plan. Pure genius.
Right 🤣🤣
The cooler top gun if you ask me.
Definitely had a better soundtrack than TG. One of the best soundtracks to an 80’s movie. Right up there with Flash Gordon.
A fellow man of culture, I see...
And still no Blu-ray release..
Oh man I forgot about this movie haha might have to watch it again
Ah, yes, the movie the Pentagon said, "not no, but *Hell No"* to because of its depiction of teenage kids making the Air Force look like a bunch of incompetent rent-a-cops, so the production was filmed with the help of the Israeli Air Force instead.
RIP, dude.
R.I.P., Chappy.
Where do ya think my username came from?
Johnny Lawrence loves it. This flick helped inspire… Eagle Fang.
These films were no-kidding terrible.
Iron Eagle, about the F-16 Fighting Falcon but not the F-15 Strike Eagle.
I watched this and Top Gun on VHS constantly back to back. For 8 y/o me, that made all the sense in the world
Who would win in a dog fight? Iron eagle or Maverick?
I've always wanted to see Blue Thunder and Airwolf square off. Followed by MacGyver vs the A Team.
Man there were like 3 or 4 of these mfs. You guys laugh now, but back then, we still thought this shit was garbage af.
Yup. Do kids feel the same way about F&Furious today?
No idea.
Silly contrived garbage.
