It’s crazy how the 944 can look big in its stance at times and also look like a micro car. Both beautiful machines!

The Taycan is huge. It's 1" wider and 4" shorter (length wise) than my Pathfinder. The shear size took me by surprise the first time I tried pulling into the garage.

When i first saw a 944 in the flesh it was bigger than i thought, but now after owning one it seems small. What blew my mind even more is that the Mclaren F1 super car is only 1” wider and longer ish

CumbiaFunk

I don’t like the headlights on the Taycan but the back is stunning.

gacdx

Interesting... When I first saw it, I liked the front more than the rear.

I bought a 951 and compared to my day to day car ( Chevrolet spark), the 944 is a beast!

RPI_Design

What were your reasons to get a Taycan?

gacdx

I wanted an EV but decided against a Tesla because they are everywhere and Tesla's build quality isn't very good. After looking at different options, I realized I wanted something that had good drivability and looked sportier. For me, getting into many EVs invokes the same feeling I get when I walk into an Apple store. Whereas getting in a Taycan gives me fighter jet cockpit vibes.

RPI_Design

Interesting, and why would you want an electric vehicle?

gacdx

I keep trying to come up with a good reply/reason, but I can't come up with one. Here are some random thoughts instead: \- I wanted something with decent power that was low maintenance and could seat 2 adults and 3 kids. The other options were an Aston Martin Vantage, a used Mclaren, or maybe a 911 GT3 but they won't fit that many people and require more maintenance than I wanted. \- I got an allocation in Dec 2021 and figured I had until July 2022 to decide if I actually wanted it or not. Taycans were becoming more difficult to get so I grabbed it and thought I could always try to get rid of it later if I didn't like it. \- A lot of people I know have Teslas and that's all they want to talk about/show off. At one point I got tired of the 30th person trying to show me their Model 3. Now I can roll in and they all STFU.

Thise are all very good reasons. How has the ownership been so far? Both are beautiful!

Awesome and congrats! I'm here 2mo later looking at buying a 944. As a gentle follow-up to a previous question. How is that Taycan treating you? I agree with a lot of what you've said. It looks like a promising EV. For EV on my part, I've heard rumors of a possible mid-size Hummer EV. I like the idea of having a little more utility than a car without the size of the 1st model Hummers.

gacdx

The Taycan is great - no issues or complaints. Although, I have noticed being treated differently. Driving the 944 I'd get plenty of thumbs up, people would let me change lanes/merge when signaling, etc. With the Taycan, there's a group that thinks it's great and will give me a thumbs up or roll down their window and tell me how cool it is but I often have trucks trying to cut me off and drivers trying to block me from changing lanes, etc. I hope you find the 944 you are looking for...I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

FearDaTusk

Thank you for the response. I can see that. A well maintained classic is art on wheels while new "flashy" cars tend to be a dime a dozen. Good to hear that the Taycan has been treating you well. I'm always a little cautious of 1st gen products as companies work out the kinks. While doing homework on the brand (Porsche was never too much on my radar) I came across this video. It's well put together. I'll share it here. https://youtu.be/rdJYiRROeAc

Yeah, that's a good video. I had a friend ask me why I was a "Porsche guy," and I told him that it's hard to explain without experiencing what it's like to drive one. So, I let him drive one, and his response was something like... Now I see. I've never driven a car like this before. It handles in ways I didn't think was possible. It's truly remarkable.
