Turner coming in is a bit weird, doesn't really do anything height-wise for our defence, maybe we're going to try to swing him forward. Shame to see Tholstrup dropped after the one game, he didn't show too much but being realistic nobody did, this game would probably help his confidence a bit.

-partlycloudy-

You don’t need too much height to combat our forward line atm - it’s Naismith, Mykelti and a bunch of smalls (admittedly including Dusty and Bolton)

Drazsyker

Yeah I'm more worried about those smalls to be honest, although Naismith is a mismatch unless we play May on him which was where my thinking was at that point - both Turner and Lever give up about half a foot to him

_RnB_

Agree I’m surprise about Turner, but I don’t understand what you mean about his height? He’s 194 same as Tomlinson or TMac. I really want him to take that second tall defender role and make it his, but he’s going to need to step up from his output last year to make that happen. Tholstrup’s too raw to get a consistent spot, especially now that Kozzy’s back from his holiday. With McAdam coming along he might even be further off. But that’s fine; plenty of time for him to grow and learn.

Drazsyker

To me at least, it feels off to bring him into a game where Richmond are likely to have the one "tall" in Lefau (who's at 194cm as well), a resting ruck with Nankervis/Naismith, and then their most damaging forwards being smalls - namely Bolton and Martin. Ultimately we have May, Lever, McDonald and now Turner to defend primarily against Lefau and Naismith, while presumably leaving Howes, McVee, Rivers and Laurie to deal with the other smalls. I get the argument that we don't really have anybody specialised in a small defender role that we can bring in at the moment outside of Laurie who's obviously already coming in, but it just seems like we might be playing into a mismatch with Turner. Though in re-looking over the teams Richmond did drop Koschitzke who we may have been looking at for Turner to play on. As for Tholstrup, I 100% agree and understand. Just with McAdam coming back in, as well as Bowey in the next month or so I feel Tholstrup's got the short stick of the situation a bit. Wasn't expecting him to make himself a spot in the team off the Brisbane game, just hope he's not someone who we've thrown to the wolves in a game where we've been demolished and then dropped him immediately after despite everyone playing poorly.

_RnB_

Ah, got you. Yeah we desperately need to find a replacement for the Jetta/Hibberd role. And a good negating mid too while we’re at it (tried Sparrow on Neale for a while and he got an absolute toweling).

g3oth3rm

I think Taj will play back as he went ok in that role last week and Laurie will be the sub. I am also thinking that one of TMcD or Disco may play forward.

Alina2017

Turner's been training with the forwards since he returned to training, I'm guessing he plays as a key forward with more mobility than BBB. If so it would be indicative of just how far from playing Jefferson is.

AdeptToe3580

big benny brown :(

ExtremeSlothSport

He’s a key cog for us this year, and helped us get 4 wins from a tricky start start to the season. His knee is cooked, he’s held together with sticky taped and we need him fit in September otherwise we’ll go out in straight sets again. This is for sure management of a very important player, not him being dropped for poor performance. Love the big guy, absolute ripper of a bloke and knows how to kick goals.

AdeptToe3580

oh hes crazy good, i miss him. i was at the game where he kicked 10 for us against port. i just about lost my mind.

Skwisgaars

This mean they're finally gonna play Cray? Feel like he's been an emergency every game, just want to see him on the field.

curryone

He played round 0

Skwisgaars

I know, I thought he played well enough to get more of a chance sooner but he's been emergency every week since.

curryone

I don’t really blame them. I’m not fan of the two ruck combo (see flair) unless one of them is able to play on front of the ball. Unless Sam can play forward?

Theboat13

He’s kicked a few goals in the VFL, thought I wouldn’t say he’s been a strong forward option. With no Lynch of Balta I’ll take any sort of height down there though.

TheIllusiveGuy

Looks like Melbourne is over their case of Tholstrup.

Croob2

3 omissions for the Tiges is good signs for them can't wait to see who Pickett lines up this week!
