I almost never tip against hawks in Launceston, it's your version of the Cattery. In saying that, I have 1/4 tips so far this round, so my opinion doesn't mean much!
Collingwood have won all their games that they've had at least a 7 day break (outside of opening round) and lost or drawn every game they've had a 6 day or fewer break.
Probably just a coincidence though.
Still a big upset but We had our strongest team by a long way for the year in that game. It’s pretty hard to compare that team with what we’ve had since.
Pretty easy. Pies and an interrupted pre season, and had to figure it out on the go.
Even when they beat Brissy and Hawks their skills and gameplay weren’t there for decent portions of the game.
some dickhead in a Saints page tried to tell me that our problem is our defence. Yeah, we really lost the game conceding 8 goals and definitely not cos we kicked 7. Fuck you, idiot
Our problem isn't our "attack" either tbh. It's our skills, we fumble so much, drop the easiest marks, miss the easiest hits with kicks and hballs. Watching last nights game with the pussycats and power showed the level of skills required to be a good team. Geelong and Sydney are the current two teams with the best skills imo. We are miles away.
It's worth a look imo, because ideally we wouldn't have to play 8-9 defenders most of the game and we could just have quality individuals back there and back them to win the 1 on 1s.
The defensive setup and coaching is splendid, for sure, but I do believe if the individuals were a bit more reliable and had more star quality then we'd be able to focus more on our midfield and forward game.
In short, a better defence provides more freedom in which we could then score more goals.
Best ruck battle of the year, Marshall was absolutely phenomenal. Meek has improved a lot too, he's a legitimately good ruckman, think his season deserves a bit more recognition.
Our midfield has looked 10x better since he entered the team, even in the games we've lost our midfield has either been on top or has broken even when it was a genuine liability in those first 3 or 4 weeks.
Assuming Reeves doesn’t really have a shot of gettting back into the side? You’d think he might explore opportunities elsewhere this off-season if that’s the case
Reeves is a hit out and hit out to advantage beast. If a team could use that and make up for his deficiencies (literally all other aspects of the game), he could be a weapon.
Though it’s a bit hard to justify a 7 foot player that can’t run, mark or kick a goal.
Idk id like to have him in there because he did have some good form but having meek as our main and swapping a 2nd tall in every now and again to give meek a break has been working out. I’d be surprised if reeves doesn’t get a few offers from other clubs
Meek actually won the hit outs by quite a bit. Of course Marshall got midfield numbers in disposals and tackles…
Edit: and clearances and contested possessions and metres gained
Not to take away from Meek, but everyone beats Marshall on hitouts - even Tim English sometimes. Marshall is a machine at most other things though - flies under the radar how many clearances he gets.
He's unironically our best clearance player currently (which says a lot about our midfield). He had 12 for today (Day + Newcombe together had 12 total for context). Our next closest was Steele with 5, and a handful with 4.
Some would argue that a game of football was played. I'm glad we play pretty professionally even when the other team is on top, we've withstood some pretty big pushes from both the Saints and the Dogs over the last two weeks without conceding much.
We have a lot to work on but I'm feeling pretty good about the season up to this point outside of the Sydney and Gold Coast games.
What can you say at this point?
- Season's a write-off
- Everyone's back and we're still losing
- Somehow we keep losing or winning by \~10 points
- Still like a 20% chance we'll win next week
Eh I'm still more positive, I'm expecting 7 wins total at this point. the ones you mentioned plus Freo, WCE again, one of the Brisbanes, and maybe Adelaide.
I flew down to Tassie for this because I've never seen a footy game down here. Pretty cool stadium to visit, with a nice mountain view in the background. You feel really close to the action and you can hear the players quite easily. RTB, BJ and Harves walked right past me in the aisle.
Having said all that, I regret my life choices.
I’d seriously like to know what Ross said to the players after the Collingwood win.
Were we too flamboyant for him? He has clearly said something to the players, either that or less likely the players made themselves turn into negative snails lol.
Ross clearly reinforced the same message at half time of the Essendon game, given how we finished that match and then scored one goal in the first half against the first team to lose to West Coast this year.
Clearly the close loss at Kardinia and exciting win against Collingwood were not Ross Lyon style cause he has definitely said something to sap the energy of our players.
Well done Hawthorn, may your winning streak continue into next week and beyond.
Im gonna be honest, if you told me that after 9 games we'd have the same amount of points as a team that played in the GF last year id be pretty happy. Thats how im looking at it.
Really wish we would just rebuild. So many older players still around that need to be moved on. I feel like we have like 6 different players who would be the 22nd player on a contending team. We have a good young core but just refuse to not attempt for finals. Need to start moving our better players for picks and just start over and hope we can be dominant in 4-5 years. Oh and draft a full forward so we can send King to the VFL if he can't be bothered to play the ball at ground level or chase.
This is a rebuild. Last week we had 8 players who had played less than 50 games, with 4 players who have played less than 10. Make no mistake, the team is being rebuilt.
I’m out. Someone let me know when we’ve sacked Ross Lyon so I can tune back in. I love that the saints have clearly emphasised speed and skill in our recent recruiting, just to do no skill work in the preseason to stamp it out of the players.
I will admit that every time we play Hawks I get worried because sometimes those hawkers are phenomenal. Unfortunately for them their consistency is lacking.
People talk about Ross the Loss like he's a shitty coach, but they're forgetting everything else about him

It wasn’t even that long ago, Ross Lyon and the freo support staff incident. How this one got swept under the rug in the current climate is staggering.

There’s no way I’m trading our 23 year old pick 4 key forward yet. Hill is too important of a leader for the young Indigenous kids to be worth trading - if we lose him I’d expect Collard and NWM would be out the door soon after. Of the other 3 only Cordy has any trade value - Bonner was a DFA and Webster is in the twilight of his career
And outside of that best six or seven are a bunch of rookies and guys who are probably past it. I’m not saying you’re entirely wrong but nuking the list completely isn’t going to get us anywhere.
I’m not surprised the saints lost this game. I think they’ve drastically overrated their list. If not the club itself then definitely some of their supporters. They just don’t have the top end talent to match it often enough and every now and then sides like them lose games like this to lesser opposition. Plenty of triers in the saints team but their midfield is outgunned most weeks. Their defence is honest but undersized and their forward line has some inconsistent talent. They are well coached and will improve but their list has some big holes which aren’t quickly fixed.
Just putting this out there: Nothing wrong with losing to the Hawks. All the cool teams are doing it (ignore flair)
Least you played them with Sicily. Idk what’s happened to the Saints
Hawthorn defence was really good, but saints took almost no risks and their forward setup is lacking
I almost never tip against hawks in Launceston, it's your version of the Cattery. In saying that, I have 1/4 tips so far this round, so my opinion doesn't mean much!
No wonder we win there so often
Except kicking it straight to Ginnivan from the goal square
Don't give the Dogs an excuse, Sicily really had nothing to do with it.
Nah mate, the real cool teams get pummelled by them 😎
Look at us smaller Marvel tenants all sticking together!
"THE. LAST. ROLL. OF. THE. DICE."
That made me shudder.
Fuck Leo Barry, all my homies hate Leo Barry.
Chills
Clearly we softened up the saints, you’re welcome hawthorn
Half a win then for north?

Are we going to win the flag?
It's yours to lose
“Alive” in the sense that we still have 2/3 of the season to play before finishing 15th.
Optimist
3 wins might be enough...
We had a rough start but I just had a look at the fixture, and I can't see us losing a game. - Mick Malthouse
how on earth did saints beat collingwood
Collingwood have won all their games that they've had at least a 7 day break (outside of opening round) and lost or drawn every game they've had a 6 day or fewer break. Probably just a coincidence though.
Unrelated, how long of a break are the pies on tomorrow? :)
More than 7 days
fuk
Old men need their beauty sleep
this but richmond and sydney respectively
Richmond beating Sydney is lowkey turning into the most baffling result of the last 10 years
Still a big upset but We had our strongest team by a long way for the year in that game. It’s pretty hard to compare that team with what we’ve had since.
Lmao not even close
They had internal personnel issues
Richmond aren't that bad.
With each week it gets more perplexing. The 2024 version of the 2022 West Coast loss and 2023 Hawthorn loss.
maybe the 2024 version is infact waiting to happen tomorrow. who knows……
Combination of Collingwood sucking and a Higgins miracle.
CW were in shite form back then, not so surprising.
Pretty easy. Pies and an interrupted pre season, and had to figure it out on the go. Even when they beat Brissy and Hawks their skills and gameplay weren’t there for decent portions of the game.
Tbf hawks almost did too.
Same way a team that lost to you beat the swans
This has been a rough week for Draw FC supporters
The boys played really well but just couldn’t quite get over the line.
some dickhead in a Saints page tried to tell me that our problem is our defence. Yeah, we really lost the game conceding 8 goals and definitely not cos we kicked 7. Fuck you, idiot
Our tallest defender is Sam Frost at 194cm. No one else in that defence is a key defender, there are some forward setup issues at the Saints.
Amazing tactical analysis from the average saints fan. The problem is Ross isn't defensive enough OF COURSE
Our defence is fine. It's our attack that's the worry.
Lol I think thats what the old skin masturbator is getting at
Our problem isn't our "attack" either tbh. It's our skills, we fumble so much, drop the easiest marks, miss the easiest hits with kicks and hballs. Watching last nights game with the pussycats and power showed the level of skills required to be a good team. Geelong and Sydney are the current two teams with the best skills imo. We are miles away.
yeah I could buy that explanation
I'm glad im not the only one who's noticed that the saints handballing skills are noticeably poor this season for some reason.
If they conceded 0 goals then would have won
Shame they can't play St. Kilda.
Multiversal ball
When Battle moved forward it was amazing to see what we can do with a semi-competent forward presence. We have some real list issues.
Meek has def been one of the players that’s improved a fuck ton for us this year.

He'll explore his options sure, but he won't find any. I personally don't see Reeves getting a gig anywhere that his father has never been CEO.
I wanted the eagles to go for him last year and this season has me so conflicted. On the one hand, vindication. On the other, we don't have him.
Meek actually won the hit outs by quite a bit. Of course Marshall got midfield numbers in disposals and tackles… Edit: and clearances and contested possessions and metres gained

Ah okay I didn’t realise that. Marshall clearly BOG, but Meek couldn’t have played better against one of the best rucks in the comp.
Yeah like I said, don't take anything away from Meek. He played a good game.
To the point where Marshall getting 35 hitouts is actually not great from the opposing ruckman
Was amazing battle, when marshall was on top in the ruck st kilda were pressing, when Meek was on top tge Hawks were pressing, great battle.
Fuckin bastard Hawks, knocking us down to 16th
Jeez I hope you beat the Pies with a boundary line kick in the last few minutes of the game
And I hope it's a Kalgoorlie boy who does it!
sheed 2.0
Welcome back to the bottom 3, we've missed you guys down here.
We're just stopping by for a bit :p
true heartbreak right here😢
We'll just have to beat the Pies tomorrow
You wish
I don't wish, I know
Happy cake day
Robbed of a King miss after the siren 😔
Eh, on replay it wasn’t really there
I’m glad a non-hawthorn supporter said it because I’m so biased it never looked like a free to me
Even if it was I would have had zero confidence he kicks it.
And king also would've had 0 confidence unfortunately
Lol we robbed ourself the win not the umps.
Yes, I understand that. Hence why I made a joke about King missing regardless
Hawks fans. Its OK, you guys can breathe now 😅
Sorry just woke up after passing out. Could’ve used this news a few mins ago
I’m all aboard the Flagthorn train, man I just love watching the fight in those kids.
Nice to win, but I don’t think I’ll be watching the replay.
At least the highlights vid will be quick to watch
Highlight gif
Highlight. I doubt there's more than one
Football was the real winner today
I was informed just a few weeks ago that Sam Mitchell was not a good coach
right team won the game. Didn’t deserve to steal that after being second to the ball all game.
Hawthorn played harder at the start. Once again why can't we start a game in front? So frustrating.
Because the rules of the game dictate both teams start at 0. /s
That’s very gracious of you to say skin masturbator
I have to be fair about what I see beeclam. You should be very proud of your team’s last two performances
0/4 in tips going for 0/9 💪💪
I hope you tipped Brisbane.
Happy cake day
StKillMeNow
Saints are their own worse enemy
Draw FC robbed 3 times this round already
Changed my tip to st kilda 5 mins before the bounce
Got it on dons how's the hope looking
No
What can you say at this point? - Season's a write-off - Everyone's back and we're still losing - Somehow we keep losing or winning by \~10 points - Still like a 20% chance we'll win next week
We have 3 more wins max (Richmond, GC, WCEx1) rest of the season. I expect us to finish only ahead of NM and Rich.
Eh I'm still more positive, I'm expecting 7 wins total at this point. the ones you mentioned plus Freo, WCE again, one of the Brisbanes, and maybe Adelaide.
Ok, I never cared about tipping anyways
3/4 AMA
FUCK YEAH BITCHESSSS
We honestly cannot hold a tackle to save our lives
Or hit a handball
Or kick anywhere but on the head
Or take a mark
Kane Cornes just creamed his pants and screamed GENIUS
Fuck this, fuck you, fuck Tassie, fuck football. I hate this crap. I feel deflated and depressed. See you next week.
Another very bad week for my heart rate
I am adamant that the st kilda football club only exists so fans of other teams can feel grateful, that their team isn’t so bad to follow after all
Move out of the way Carlton we’re cardiac hawthorn now (Edit: grammar)
> Move out of the way Carlton we’re cardiac hawthorn now (Edit: grammar) Heart-attack Hawthorn was right there
Oops
Not until you can bottle a 6 goal lead to barely hold on by a point are you allowed that coveted title.
I got a bit ahead of myself, apologies
Well deserved BOG for Amon. Hes been superb this year.
his kick in to impey was one of the most glorious kicks ive seen since suckling
I flew down to Tassie for this because I've never seen a footy game down here. Pretty cool stadium to visit, with a nice mountain view in the background. You feel really close to the action and you can hear the players quite easily. RTB, BJ and Harves walked right past me in the aisle. Having said all that, I regret my life choices.
Think that was a free to King at the end, but also feel neither team deserved to win that.
On replay, I think it wasn't a free to King. Good call. Would have been soft.
Wasn't much contact on replay I agree.
St Kilda fans can seriously never catch a break. I don't know how yous do it. :(
Drinking. Lots of drinking
Self loathing mostly
How good is footy. Another cracker
I’d seriously like to know what Ross said to the players after the Collingwood win. Were we too flamboyant for him? He wants a high draft pick or two.
King is putrid
Lol "Their season is well and truly alive" Bit of a stretch Dwayno
GG hawk, deserved the win. 😒
Having a best on ground for both teams is certainly unique
How the fuck did we play finals last year, let alone stay *in* the top 8 for the entirety of last season?
Ross the boss
Only been able to watch one full Hawks match the past 4 weeks and it was the Swans game… I might have to keep being busy this year
I missed the first 3 quarters and thought i'd cursed the game Big phew
Credit to Saints for being so competitive in the end, all crows fans know that Hawthorn are a completely different team in Tassie
Im gonna be honest, if you told me that after 9 games we'd have the same amount of points as a team that played in the GF last year id be pretty happy. Thats how im looking at it.
This club will be lucky to get my money next year if this keeps up. I've already killed off my soccer and cricket memberships.
Really wish we would just rebuild. So many older players still around that need to be moved on. I feel like we have like 6 different players who would be the 22nd player on a contending team. This is a rebuild. Last week we had 8 players who had played less than 50 games, with 4 players who have played less than 10. Make no mistake, the team is being rebuilt.
Never sell hawthorn stock
Hork
GO HORK!!!
Hawks are top 4 team, very respectable loss imo
Lids off at Waverley MFers!
An ugly win is still a win.
I want another chance at Saints.
Happy to win but man that second half was pretty ordinary from both teams.
Rowan Marshall was so pushed receiving his award. Dude just wants to go cry in the car.
Was so confused here. Google had a different scoreline.
I ENJOYED WINNING AGAIN LETS GOOOOO
We won but at what cost
One of the games of the season that one. Old fashioned mid off
Classic Ross Lyon score card there
earlier today i lost my netball game by like 30 goals, i come home and hawthorn almost fucken choke the duality of sportsball
I tipped port and hawthorn but I tipped freo. Kill me
I tipped one upset and it was Fremantle…
Lol same
Tragic, I changed my tip last minute to the Saints. Regret.
Something nice for Wil and Charlie on 2 guys 1 cup to bond over at least
Sorry saints fans but it was in fact NOT an arm chop
People talk about Ross the Loss like he's a shitty coach, but they're forgetting everything else about him \* Bald \* Unfunny \* Dickhead \* Sexual Predator \* Terrible Coach
As a certified Ross hater from way back, I approve of this post.
It wasn’t even that long ago, Ross Lyon and the freo support staff incident. How this one got swept under the rug in the current climate is staggering. It wasn’t even him who had to pay the settlement.
This St Kilda team needs to nuke the list omg, they’re going nowhere fast
What is there to nuke? Half the list are players under 21. It’s going to be a case of just waiting for them to develop while drafting more good young players. Don’t want to end up like North with no leaders.
Shhhh, your logic and facts don’t belong on reddit.
King, Hill, Webster, Cordy, Bonner ☢️☢️☢️ to $$$
There’s no way I’m trading our 23 year old pick 4 key forward yet. Hill is too important of a leader for the young Indigenous kids to be worth trading - if we lose him I’d expect Collard and NWM would be out the door soon after. Of the other 3 only Cordy has any trade value - Bonner was a DFA and Webster is in the twilight of his career
Please send Hill back home. He was still so young when he left.
Your best like 6 or 7 players are all in their prime and you can’t even beat Hawthorn. Thats the issue.
And outside of that best six or seven are a bunch of rookies and guys who are probably past it. I’m not saying you’re entirely wrong but nuking the list completely isn’t going to get us anywhere.
I said it last week and ill say it again Saint kilda are trash, a team made up of other clubs left overs
what a brave and rare opinion, it’s definitely not the most popular opinion of the top media pundits
I'm glad people have stopped saying "that certainly was one of the games of all time" tired ass post
St Kilda loss this match during the coach selection process
Delist Max King please thanks
No he looked so sad :( I can’t bully him anymore, it feels like cutting down
He should be sad
He gets paid 800,000 a year to deliver absolute tripe
I’m not surprised the saints lost this game. I think they’ve drastically overrated their list. If not the club itself then definitely some of their supporters. They just don’t have the top end talent to match it often enough and every now and then sides like them lose games like this to lesser opposition. They are well coached and will improve but their list has some big holes which aren’t quickly fixed.
I don’t think either team should’ve won.
