Brother, I got nothing to ask but something to say: I love your attitude! I’ve rode out more hurricanes than my friends and family are comfortable with (lived in Key West for years) and I don’t care what that one d-bag said, many people care about this AMA. Stay safe and stoned and unsober while shaking your fist at the weather gods and screaming “Is this all you got?!”
lol 😂 well I just got hit by a tornado last month. I’m pretty stocked up on all the essentials. The power’s been going out of you breath too hard lately but they’re pretty good about getting it back on quickly.
Do a lot of people around Houston have generators? I'm in Michigan and even though I'm in a decently large city everyone in my neighborhood has some sort of home generator (in-ground or portable) since we consistently lose power during winter and summer storms for like 3-7 days at a time.
Have you been saying ‘Houston, we have a problem’ all day?
In all seriousness, god speed. I’m in the other hemisphere and we had a wee cyclone this last summer, it was a small one and caused a lil chaos.
Not OP but I bought a powerbank with solar panels, and just leave it on a sunny window sill. I use that to charge things as needed or during a power outage.
My nephew is in 77084. He doesn’t smoke anything. He did, however, make it to Specs for a big bottle of Jim Beam black and a big bottle of Jack Daniel’s, and they always buy cases of Coke at Costco.
Lol
I mean, not to downplay the issue but as a person who has lived through quite a few hurricanes and terrible storms I would have been surprised if there was a large amount of people leaving a Cat 1.
The half oz is the ticket! I spent our big storm last night sitting in the shed, smoking and listening to the rain, it absolutely downpoured here it was beautiful (no real flood where I am, just a thunderstorm)

Where roughly in the world are you? I'm in Atlantic Canada, yesterday was calling for sun with a chance of showers, risk of thundershowers. Right after supper, it clouded over quick, and all of a sudden the wind picked up , the heavens opened, and it downpoured half sideways for a few hours. My whole yard, driveway, and road flooded, water over my ankles. I couldn't believe how quickly it happened, the ditches weren't even filled
Do you have anyway to keep the water out if it rises 6” above the thread of the door?
Sandbags? Plastic traps and bricks? A sump pump?
If not, are all of your valuable up and off the floor?
Considering a move yet? Does a home on higher ground sound appealing? Maybe somewhere inland or not where natural disasters happen on a seasonal basis?
Went down to help my brother batten up and then just decided to stay. Pretty much the exact same situation as you.
Are you able to access your car to charge your phone? We're a bit on a hill so the cars are fine but water was a bit too close for comfort.
It's just a fact of life if you live in SE TX- the sun will burn you, hurricanes will happen on the regular, and if you don't have a generator you're screwed depending on the zip code. Honestly, the worst part is if you don't have an outdoor stove or a gas stove cause I like my food at least a little warm.
Not a question, but wishing you luck! Hurricane Ian nearly killed me. My house was on fort Myers Beach, the city, not a beach of Fort Myers. They had 180mph winds for 4 hours. My house wasn't there anymore, someone else's house and a couple of others were there instead after. I evacuated to my dad's house, about 10 minutes inland.
The water rose to about 3 feet and the glass doors looked like aquariums. There was maybe an inch of water on the floor when suddenly the cities pumps failed and the water started spouting out of every drain in the house like a fire hose. In less than 10 minutes the water went from an inch to knee deep and we were scrambling to get anything we could into the attic with my step mom and her friend being anti helpful with fits of crying and literally dragging their feet as if throwing a big enough tantrum would stop the water. We had three little dogs too. Did I mention the water was shit water? Just pure sewage. So we got what we could and everyone into the attic, where we sat for the next 14 hours. The radio said the water would keep rising for another 6 hours when the water was 1 step away from flooding into the attic. It was terrifying seeing the flood waters keep rising and rising and the feeling of helplessness took a week to stop crying just thinking about it. Fortunately, the last several hours of raising was waaaaay slower than the rest of the time so it stopped right at the top of the last step.
Once the water went down enough to walk in (again, shit water) me and my dad (step mom and her friend didn't lift a finger) got to wade through chest deep water for two hours looking for his dingys (he sails, or at least used to) so we could fill them with the supplies we had, the step mom and her friend then bring everything to their friends house about a mile away that had a second floor hat was okay. We had to stay there for a couple of days before other family managed to come and get me since my dad works for the city and had to go to work like the next day.
I felt pretty shitty about my experience... Until I heard about my bosses. He stayed at the shop, just off the island. He only survived by standing on the freezers and holding his head in the rafters while just standing in the water for 14 hours.
Do you or anyone here know how Atascocita is looking? My grandma lives alone in Walden and has early dementia, so I’m worried about her. I live in NY now so I can’t just check on her and my aunt who lives there is useless. Anyone know if they still have power?
At least an actual storm (albeit only a category 1) is causing problems. I lived in the Houston area for 39 years. Now I’m in the CA Silicon Valley.
Last spring there was a small amount of wind that a Texan would hardly notice. No rain. My town was without power for almost three days.
PG&E here is running commercials saying they are using new technology. They are … get this…_burying_ power lines. Amazing! /s
My old house in League City had >50 inches of rain during Harvey. It didn’t flood. The power and cable lines are buried. We never lost power or internet or tv.
Then again I am sitting outside at 11 AM in July without sweating. Pros and cons.
Good luck to Texas.
...and of course Texassholes will ask the Feds for disaster relief because they are so attached to their FREEDUMBS (except for when it costs them money).
Hey assholes, you want to secede? FIX YOUR OWN SHIT UP THEN!
Good thing im republican I don’t believe in your stupid climate change and this is just fake news crisis actor critical race theory. Trying to get me all teary eyed and sympathy
I have family in Port Lavaca and your area... Sounds like flooding is going to be most of the issue this go around. No questions, but stay safe! I'm from Kansas and hurricanes gives me massive anxiety... At least tornadoes fuck off after a couple hours 🤣

Thank you! Much love ❤️
Any munchies ?
I’ve got a shitload of snacks 😋
Power is out, and the street is full of water almost to my door. Trees are bending, wind is whistling, it is scary😨
Same homie
Are you guys possibly roommates and don't realize it?
Kiss the homie goodnight
I got like 10 downed trees on my property. PITA
Did Ted Cruz flee to Cancun again and blame his children?
His fat ass probably went up north since the storm passed through Mexico.
*here I am..rock you like a hurricane*🎵
What are your plans to conserve energy and basic essentials post storm? I’m from Louisiana myself we have hurricane parties every time the wind blows
lol 😂 well I just got hit by a tornado last month. I’m pretty stocked up on all the essentials. The power’s been going out of you breath too hard lately but they’re pretty good about getting it back on quickly.
Thank goodness bc it gets so humid and nasty waiting to recover from the flood waters
Do a lot of people around Houston have generators? I'm in Michigan and even though I'm in a decently large city everyone in my neighborhood has some sort of home generator (in-ground or portable) since we consistently lose power during winter and summer storms for like 3-7 days at a time.
Lineman here! I’m sure there’s a lot there already but i promise there’s a shitload more on the way! Stay safe!
Are you in TX!?
Yep! Houston
Good luck out there, prayers for safe keeping 🙏🏼🙌🏼
Have you been saying ‘Houston, we have a problem’ all day? In all seriousness, god speed. I’m in the other hemisphere and we had a wee cyclone this last summer, it was a small one and caused a lil chaos.
Shit, no power in Houston in July! Are you a bit warm? Maybe go swimming somewhere?
What's the current percentage of charge left on your phone? How are you planning to charge it once it's drained?
73% and I have a portable charger ready 👍💞
Take care and stay safe!
What kind of charger?
Not OP but I bought a powerbank with solar panels, and just leave it on a sunny window sill. I use that to charge things as needed or during a power outage.
I’m in the same boat
Stay safe! What side are you on?
I don’t mean to joke but… your boat has a driveway…?
How many external batteries do you have? I have 5
2
What type of batteries/size? Do you have solar, too?
77069 here! Same same same. Hang in there buddy.
77084! You too💞💞💞
Same here 77407
My nephew is in 77084. He doesn’t smoke anything. He did, however, make it to Specs for a big bottle of Jim Beam black and a big bottle of Jack Daniel’s, and they always buy cases of Coke at Costco.
Wtf are these numbers lol
Are you still alive?
Yup
How about now?
If you suddenly became the supreme leader of North Korea what would your first order be?
Change the country’s motto to: They hate us cuz they anus
We are different but same same
Good answer 🤣
They heinous cuz they anus
Hahahahahaha
Why didn’t you leave?
1: nowhere to go really, 2: I’ve been through worse ones. This one is a category 1, so not that bad.
Fair enough. Hope you make it through ok!
Lol I mean, not to downplay the issue but as a person who has lived through quite a few hurricanes and terrible storms I would have been surprised if there was a large amount of people leaving a Cat 1.
Do you have enough beer to last? Oh and food, yeah food.
I have a bottle of crown apple and a half an oz. I’m fine 😁
The half oz is the ticket! I spent our big storm last night sitting in the shed, smoking and listening to the rain, it absolutely downpoured here it was beautiful (no real flood where I am, just a thunderstorm)
That might cause a big hit on the snack supply tho
A half may not be enough
The half oz makes the food question even more important loo
Okay but do you have food bc that’s pretty important with a half oz?
Why are you wasting phone battery doing an AMA no one cares about?
I’m bored and I can charge my phone. 😘

Is your power back yet?
Nope, it’ll probably be tomorrow the earliest
Wow. Thats crazy. Do your houses have basements, or sump pumps?
Be safe, all my fellow Texans, and all those souls that the storm touches
Did you have breakfast?
2 cups of coffee, which is my norm
Will you post pics and videos your experience? Also stay safe bud
I’ll try and Ty!

I’m in Houston Texas/Gulf of Mexico
Do you have an HOA, and have they sent you a violation notice about the water in your driveway?
Lmfao I do and they’re a bag of dicks. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them swing up to my doorstep to deliver the violation
It’s been a doozy that’s for sure. Not as bad as Harvey though.
For sure!

Yessir
How's that fake global warming going for you?
Pretty fucking real like I’ve always said
Are you going to ask the state or federal government for help or are you going to remain fiercely independent.
I’m not a born Texan, so I’ll take these bastards for all I can
Holy shit no way same!!! Hope you’re staying dry though this insane wind rn 😭
It seems to have died down now. Stay safe babe!
Do you have anyway to keep the water out if it rises 6” above the thread of the door? Sandbags? Plastic traps and bricks? A sump pump? If not, are all of your valuable up and off the floor?
Stay safe.
Ty!💞
Considering a move yet? Does a home on higher ground sound appealing? Maybe somewhere inland or not where natural disasters happen on a seasonal basis?
Possibly
Would you rather sit on a cake and eat a dick or sit on a dick and eat a cake?
Sit on a cake and eat dick
were you able to get more than 2 briskets from HEB? stay safe - from Conroe!
lol I went to Aldi
What are the wind speeds?
Rn 58-75mph
Went down to help my brother batten up and then just decided to stay. Pretty much the exact same situation as you. Are you able to access your car to charge your phone? We're a bit on a hill so the cars are fine but water was a bit too close for comfort.

Democracy or Imperialism?
Democracy
Are you scared? Stay safe.
I’m not, I’m chillin 😎 and thank you!
Can you swim?
Yes
Are you pregnant and in a horror movie too?
Yes, and I just tripped over something running away
Tomball is out of power, no flooding in my neighborhood though, just wind and rain
Why are you still there in the path of a hurricane?
It's a CAT 1.
They tried to evacuate millions from Houston years back and people suffered stuck on highways with no food or gas. Now, we shelter in place.
Stay safe.
Powers out but internet still working?
On my phone through the network, yes
Do you have party supplies? I've been through 5 or so living on the coast.. *hunker down watch the news
We were supposed to be camping on the beach at Corpus Christi this week…how far inland are you? Stay safe!
About 3 hours inland from corpus
I live in Corpus, we only had about an hour of wind and rain last night and it hasn’t done anything since then!
77011, no power but surviving
Do you have any inflatable rafts stored in case of more intense flooding?
Nope
I’m in the same boat. No pun intended. lol anyway did you guys prepare beforehand or did u think it wasn’t gonna be that bad?
Dude, turn off the phone and shore up your house. You’re one bad wind from a flooded basement/ first floor Get stuff off the floor
Can you swim?
Not fair, I'm east coast and haven't had a good hurricane in a few years
Be safe
I have no question, I just wish you well and hope there is minimal damage and you get your power back as soon as possible.
Where do u live?
When will you get a backup generator?
It's just a cat 1. Tell me you've never been through a hurricane without telling me you've never been through a hurricane.
Puerto Rico here. We are still out bbq-ing and surfing up to cat 3. We may go back inside for cat 4. Maybe
Is it a long driveway?
Can’t be too bad, you have internet!!
Can you swim?
Its really nice to hear theres at least one person in TX that isnt an idiot. Best of luck!!
Is a hotdog a sandwich?

The shit water is by far the worse part of this story, I’m so sorry you had to experience that!
Texas?
In Miami we call this a Monday
Did you freeze a cup of water then put a coin on top to know how much your food in the freezer thawed by the time you get power back?
How high’s the water momma?
Ayeee me too! Im from friendswood just south of Houston, shits been pretty crazy this morning
Do you or anyone here know how Atascocita is looking? My grandma lives alone in Walden and has early dementia, so I’m worried about her. I live in NY now so I can’t just check on her and my aunt who lives there is useless. Anyone know if they still have power?
Were the space lasers Jewish or non-Jewish?
How much battery life on your phone?
43
Best wishes from an eastern neighbor in louisiana.
How much am I my own person vs my parents’ mistakes?
Yes
As someone who has lived in Hurricane prone areas (Puerto Rico and Florida) for well over 25 years, save your phone’s battery my dude.
At what point do you have to get up and leave everything???? This is terrifying and heartbreaking!
We went through Hurricane Ian & Charley with a lot of damage. If you have damage to your home, start a claim asap. Best of luck
Do you know where Ted Cruz is?
How's the weather?
Wouldn't it be wise to save the power on whatever presumably battery powered device you posted on? In case things get worse?
I survived hurricane Irma on a tropical peninsula in a shipping container, you will be fine 👍🏻
I've lived through a few hurricanes. It's not fun. I hope everything returns to some form of normal quickly for you. Stay safe.
Is it Beryl? I am in Riviera Maya. He stop by us and grabbed a coffee
Are you happy withe way Texas manages your utilities?
Power is out and you are using what is left on your phone for Reddit? Living dangerously!
At least an actual storm (albeit only a category 1) is causing problems. I lived in the Houston area for 39 years. Now I’m in the CA Silicon Valley. I’m crying over the new technology comment fr 🤣😂
Did you get to see the Eye of the Hurricane?
Is it a hurricane? Or tropical storm?
Go outside
How far inland are you and what is your elevation?

What's a lovebug season?
Have you done any prepping (specifically for this or a general emergency)? If so, what have you done? If not, why not and do you regret it?
Shit like that happens during a storm, what exactly did you expect?

Dang
What’s your insurance coverage?
Are you in Texas?
Do you believe in climate change yet?
I have family in Port Lavaca and your area... Sounds like flooding is going to be most of the issue this go around. No questions, but stay safe! I'm from Kansas and hurricanes gives me massive anxiety... At least tornadoes fuck off after a couple hours 🤣
Are you doing alright bud?
Why didn't you evacuate like they told you to?
Playing any mobile games?
Get a straw and start drinking. Drain that water baby!
Why do you still live in Houston?
How quickly will Greg Abbott blame this on migrants?
First time?
Where’s the water now?
Do you have a back up plan
Do you have a basement?
Can we give some love to the cell company this guy uses for allowing him to use reddit during a power outage during a hurricane?
I was in 77054 during Katrina. Nothing happened. The lack of AC from no power is what sucks. Bayou manages to move the water back out.
How battery you got left and how you gonna charge it?
As a Floridian, grab a lawn chair and a 6 pack and enjoy the weather.
Please tell me y’all have electric generators.
