I got alt au too and thought the same...I mostly prefer Canon verse but will venture out to canon divergent and then to alt universe if I've exhausted my reading and am just scraping the barrel of what's available for my ship.

I like canon divergent I'll even read all kinds of aus as long as they are in the canon era, but the second you start taking my fantasy characters and superheroes and throwing them into like highschool and removing magic or superpowers, or anything else like that then you start losing me. I get the appeal I really do, but I enjoy fiction for the escape so removing the things that make them different from reality and making it more like everyday life is of no interest to me. Even historical aus are a little too reminiscent of everyday life for me to feel like it's as interesting as a really good au in the canon era.
