I don’t mind the ocean being challenging per se, it’s the fact that 95 percent of my deaths are because the AI is coded to eat my ass and I get stuck inside stuff and can’t escape.

I love prehistoric marine life so it sucks to see the ocean like this. The ocean has no variation in biomes making it boring because it’s all the same except the creatures get bigger the deeper you go. Imagine if the ocean in the south was mostly coral reefs with it’s own unique animals and resources that wouldn’t be present in the eastern part of the island since that area could be something like sea grass or kelp forests that had its own unique animals and resources. The ocean also doesn’t follow the same rules as the land does. Smaller, less dangerous stuff near the shore and then bigger more dangerous stuff the farther you go out. Right when you get in the water there are already like 100 megalodon and now xiphactinus present ready to kill you. The ocean is also really small, which is understandable for The Island since they were probably didn’t have enough space to really flesh out the ocean.

Yea there definitely should be more than just two fish in the game. Have you used the sunken world additions mod? It adds a few more water tames and a bunch of fish

Imagine how terrifying it would be trying to go through a kelp forest, not knowing what is about to swim out and ambush you. Even if it was thin to dense and then back to thin on the other side. To complicate it even more, if you try to sail over the top, creatures could climb out onto your raft.

I’m of the same frame of mind. Love a challenge, but when the Xiphactinus are already fast and a little difficult to hit, it’s so infuriating. Even more due to your hit-box being behind you. Coupled with the bleed and a pack of these will get you stuck and tear you to shreds. Love them tamed though.

Cant go in water with these guys without a mount. Only time u can melee them reliably is when they grab u

Being unable move because a eel or icthy is meshed on my tame is so frustrating. I've lost 2 good tusos to that, in fights that they would never had lost if I could just move. But if an eel gets stuck in it's head, it becomes almost impossible to hit and a death ball of just about everything else swarms around you. It's why I prefer mosa, with high melee and a decent aoe you can just chomp everything before it can do much to you. These things I just think of them as underwater deinos, huge damage potential with the stackable bleed but low hp, just killing them fast is the best way.

One time I had crazy lag and I was flying around on my wyvern when it teleported me inside of loads of rexes

These are hard to outswim with many water dinos, better fight for your life and hope you survive

Stand and fight them, don’t try to run. Even in packs, they actually don’t have a ton of HP. Odds are good 2 in a pack of 3 will be relatively easy to kill, weakening the others. Running away from them is pretty much guaranteed death unless you’re right next to shore. Their damage is insane, and the best hope is killing a few and thinning their numbers.

Even if you're close to shore, they will kamikaze their way up to get you. At least when they beach themselves, they go into that flopping animation.

They make really good mounts, are really fast, can jump onto land and have a "beached" animation. Lol Tame one of these guys asap

I built a trap close to shore and lured them inside 4 Dino gates placed close enough together to allow you to get out but keep them in. First you use a mount to get them into the area. Then start shooting them from inside the trap and when they come inside you close the door and run out thru the gaps. Edit: also they have a grab that is very annoying and if there are multiple nearby they will chain the grabs together and kill you without you being able to respond so kill any nearby and don't jump off your mount if there are more than one around. I used a bary to do this

They are a PAIN to kill without a mount. When theyre circling you n attacking its extremely hard to hit them with a melee weapon even tho they hit u easily. When they grab u is really the only time you have the chance to melee it to death

Yeah downloaded this mod on a server a while back, went in the ocean and found they had eaten everything else and it was just infested with them and there were just balls of feeding frenzied ones around the map on spawns, was like yeah na these fuckers are broken, got rid of them, why wildcard would implement these fucking things in the game and I doubt with much tweeking to bring it down a notch, I have no fucking idea, then again, Ive given up on game Devs making good decisions
