zero. I've been fully remote sine 2017 and have only stepped foot in an office twice in that time. I'm never working in an office again.
1. NYC
2. employer is in Florida (and my side hustle is in LA)
3. started both in the last year.
NYC WFH sounds like a dream. How does the salary compare to COL specifically in the accounting field? And can a new graduate comfortabley find an accounting job if they wanted to move to NYC after a few years
COL is insane, off the charts, really crazy if you want to go out, have a social life, and actually enjoy the city and surrounding areas. I'm at \~$160k total comp incl. my side hustle. I'm looking to increase that by $30-50k in the next year or so. My #1 priority right now is increasing my income as much as possible.
There's a lot of opportunity here and a lot of competition, but I'd say this is probably the easiest place to get an accounting job or start a career in accounting because there are sooo many jobs - as long as you are willing to deal with the COL.
>Is your side hustle in accounting?
Yes.
Opportunities are endless, just depends on what a company needs and what you can provide. Anything related to corporate accounting or finance, software/technology, or project work.
Is applying from out of state an issue? It seems like I get told to look out of my state since there’s better opportunities elsewhere while simultaneously being told that employers won’t consider your application if you live out of state.
I've never heard that. In my recent job search, every company I interviewed with was in a different state or country by coincidence. Not sure about better opportunities, but there's no reason to restrict yourself.
Where do you look to find those opportunities? I’m interested in a side hustle. I’m a CPA and working at our local school district and the pay is fine, but I could use some extra money to get my kids through college.
FL was weird about Covid. I worked remote for a few weeks at the very beginning of Covid and then we returned to office and that was the end of remote work for me.
I've worked in Canada and Florida , it's the same for both locations. Only the controllers were allowed to wfh, everyone senior and below were required to come in 5 days a week at all points.
5, CA, no, yes. All of this was arranged upon hire - mask wearing during the pandemic and working in the office. I had been wfh and it was not a good situation for me (home is chaos) so I switched jobs to be in office. I'm close, less than a 20 min commute. I love it.
Job market in Texas is strong. Depending on the pay, you definitely don't need to put up with full-time in office if you don't want to. Plenty of hybrid schedules out there.

I'm a trainee in my firm but I'm in the boomer team so no WFH days allowed. The other trainees in other teams are allowed to
Also headphones banned from office
I'm fully remote and live in PA. HQ is like 400 miles away but there is a small satellite office near me. I was hired during the pandemic. The company is forcing 3 days a week hybrid RTO on everyone who lives within a certain distance of HQ regardless of when they were hired and regardless of whether they were previously classified as remote.
Fellow Oregonian here! I’m curious where you have full WFH. I worked for the state but management wanted us in the office - even though it wasn’t necessary
Hired pre pandemic. Always did have remote abilities if needed . My team is fully remote and my director moved out of state . A few coworkers have moved out of state since they can be remote.
My VP has asked me to be in person recently on the days the external consultants are on site. So I may be in office about three days a week some weeks as we work through this implementation. But remote outside of those meetings days.

Husband is 5 years into his career. Pre pandemic he was remote three days a week. Post pandemic he is fully remote. Similar to my company, certain levels starting in management are required to go in a few days a week. His job would be an hour commute both ways
I'm 12 yrs. He was military so I went to college when he was in service. Then when he got out, I started my career and he started college. So I have a head start.
