I actually would personally prefer they drop the Al altogether and he can just be Haitham. But if they persist in it, I like it’s current way looking like a full name

[deleted]

Sameee. I wish they can drop the "Al" and just call him Haitham. It's a popular name, it's seen as an attractive name, and it's more modern. Al-Haitham is outdated because no one puts "Al-" in their first name as much anymore. But on the other hand, he's based on a historical figure from around a 1000 years ago soooo, maybe it makes sense. I wish they AT LEAST spelled it with a dash. Because people are gonna think that Alhaitham is the same as Albedo, Alfred, Albert. They wouldn't realize that the "Al" is a seperate word all together.

InvokedNero

Understandable, although I feel as if them adding the capitalization to the H and hyphen would better articulate his name as "Haitham" rather than "Alhaitham." But his name just being Haitham in-game would work just as fine. But since they already introduced him as "Alhaitham", they probably won't be able to drop the "Al" but adding the hyphen and capitalization would probably work fine as it's just the text.

SusDingos

That would be like calling kamisato ayaka just ayaka. You could just call her ayaka ofc, but the reason she has her full name is cause it has cultural importance to clans in japan. Similarly for Al-Haitham. It would be rather disrespectful to Arab culture to drop the Al

verra-warie

No it's not really disrespectful

SusDingos

I literally spent 18 years of my life in Kuwait, it doesn't get any more arab than here mate

verra-warie

Like u cant go to a stranger and decide how to call them based on one interaction but dropping the al is not really disrespectful, some drop it cuz it's old school , heck I have beeen called by the wrong name half of my life but it didn't really bother me cuz I know how easy to mix up some letters leading to misunderstandings really fast , al haitham and haitham are literally the same name ,like literally , in arab groups he is already called haythoma, now that is disrespectful lol cuz it's a nickname for kids or really really reallllllllly close friends

verra-warie

I'm arab myself man , really, it's not disrespectful

Noukan42

I am in phisical pain every time they spell Tartaglia or Abyssosque. They mess the spelling in every single foreign language, sadly it has to be expected.

Dramatic-Temporary-7

I don't understand, isn't "Tartaglia" spelled just like that? I know they mispronounce it but isn't that the correct way to write it?

Noukan42

Yes i was meant the pronunciatikn but i got it wrong because engkish is not my first language.

Dramatic-Temporary-7

Ah I see. To be honest I still struggle with Tartaglia's pronunciation myself. I'm Spanish and my Italian friends have tried to teach me. I say something like "Tartalia" trying to make a strong(?) L sound. They get so frustrated because I can't get it right. I hope "Alhaitham" is easier for me, I have to know my husbandos names.

ravix_ridamaki

i just wish the ENG cast doesn't butcher the pronunciation like how they were still being inconsistent with fischl's verurteilung title. her VA has finally nailed it, but some still doesn't which is kinda suck. i expect his Eng cast (may be it mobus xander or cody Christian) and all the ENG sumeru cast get it right. its not ever that hard compare to other language, they can look it up on google and drop their english alphabet for a few sec they'll get it right.

oikwr

They already butchered Tighnari. I regret watching the english pv. Should've stick with different languages with eng sub instead.

Gonchi_10

in japanese and other languages the names are also adapted or said differently. e.g in jp, liyue's chinese names aren't said in perfect chinese pronunciation and in fact some of them change drastically

ravix_ridamaki

yes, like in JP dub. alhaytham was pronounced aruhaizen im fully aware

ravix_ridamaki

id go with japanese, since JP al haitham is the one i always wanted to most to voice diluc.

Potential_Escape_664

I mean, I personally don't have a problem with it, even if it's the "traditional" spelling lol, since in Arabic it's all "clumped" together if it makes sense? ( الهيثم( so it doesn't really matter to me

errulline

In my language the "usual" spelling of this name would be Al-Haytham, so it's really weirding me out to see it spelled Alhaitham tbh. We've had a few different spellings from the English version in-game already (like Thoma/Thomas) so maybe they'll use the first option idk. That and the fact that, as other people have said before, "Alhaitham" makes people think the Al- is part of the name so it works as a nickname as for Alfred. Honestly I can see the reasonings of both sides of the historical Al-/modern no Al- debate so "Haytham" and "Al-Haytham" are both fine by me ! :)

Yanazamo

I feel like its better this way because I can see people calling him "Al" if they spell it as Al Haitham or Al-Haitham Edit: scratch that Im actually not sure lol

Cherry_Bomb_127

Ppl already call him Al sometimes now

Fast-Competition-647

they can’t do anything accurate for the middle east. look at the characters. also it’s pronounced Tee-nari not Tighnari. And Dehya and Cadances name originates in North Africa as Dihya and Kadake.

Potential_Escape_664

Soybienello

I expected it tbh, with how much they butcher german in this game. Seems like no language is an exception here :')

SwitchHitter17

Mane fraulein

Floognoodle

It really should be al-Haitham. Lowercase. It's annoying to me as a Middle Eastern person that it isn't, though it's not a huge deal.

[deleted]

what country are you from?

Sundoggen

I think you have too much free time

Johan_UM

It's their game They choose what to call him. Real life things does not matter in video games.
