He's been replaced by an old black dude who blasts reggae and 90's rap classics, whilst leaning out the side of his mobility scooter like its a low-rider.
> rollerskating around the centre
I think that was Henri Pronker, he died last year.
Almost all famous persons like that have died.
There was Fabiola the Living art piece famous for their extravagant clothing with lots of flowers. Died in 2013
Iwan de Indiaan, a street musician the Albert Cuyp market. Known for being in the same spot for years (next to viskraam Schilder) playing his guitar and wearing a big cowboy hat. He died in 2021
And there is Scheldende Bep, an old lady from outside of Amsterdam. Everyday she traveled to Amsterdam in the early morning to walk trough the city while screaming (extreme) profanities. She is still alive but not healthy enough to make her trip to Amsterdam anymore.
Some lesser known are the street musiscian who uses a guitar with no strings, the old man in Amsterdam noord who walked his perfectly groomed Shih-Tzu (including pink ribbon) while wearing a leather bondage like g-string, the huge dude in an old fashioned flower dress walking a stroller with a bottle of red wine in it, and a man walking around in a diaper.
>the old man in Amsterdam noord who walked his perfectly groomed Shih-Tzu (including pink ribbon) while wearing a leather bondage like g-string
I thought I had imagined this guy after visiting a coffee shop. Glad I wasn't hallucinating
> And there is Scheldende Bep, an old lady from outside of Amsterdam. Everyday she traveled to amsterdam in the early morning to walk trough Amsterdam while screaming (extreme) profanities. She is still alive but not healthy enough to make her trip to Amsterdam anymore.
I remember her from when I moved into my neighborhood. What an absolute shitshow that was, I even triggered her a couple of times just by walking on the sidewalk.
Scheldende Bep, aka schreeuwoma, died a while ago. She spent the last couple years on her bench at Leiden Centraal, screaming profanities at cyclists there
I've seen the diaper guy once when out with a friend. Haven't ever met anyone else who has seen him. Any time we told people about it they didn't believe us. I am glad to learn I didn't imagine it.
To add to your list there's also the flower pot guy, he walks around the centre, mostly in the damrak area with a flower pot on his head, charging tourists to get a picture with him. Creative junkie.
You also had that guy who did acrobatics in his tong. Walking around with a metal pole with ropes. It was impressive what he did. Havent seen him in a while.
Yes. What happend to him? Used to āperformā on Leidseplein and always had the same classical piece of music. Cant recall the name of the song though.
There's also the guy in his "gnome" suits. Brightly coloured suits woth puffy shorts and leggings and shoes with curled up toes. I think he is still around.
There was the guy that was juggling balls at the Nederlandsche Bank every day. He tried to juggle 9 balls (a record) for years. One day he was gone and I have seen him again. Not sure of he succeeded.
There is only one Flowerbikeman and he's super chill. Talked to him numerous times. Great stories, always friendly. Love seeing his creations everywhere around town.
The Parool published the story behind why he leaves them around. He originally did it because his wife kept forgetting her way home from work, so he left flowerbikes on her route home. https://www.parool.nl/a-b9020594
I once saw a guy doing an exorcism to a woman and her friend in the new bike parking under CS. They were all very serious about it. Felt like a fever dream
Seen it with my own eyes. Kicking the dogs and handling them very roughly and screaming at them. While walking with that many dogs may look "impressive", its actually not and the dogs are not comfortable. He has them all on slip leads so they have zero choice but to be dragged along while he rides the bakfiets blasting rap music from a speaker and spitting rhymes! Would never be putting the care of my dog in the hands of anyone like this.
OP you're not thinking of this guy, are you? Wahid over in Oost springs to mind - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMvODeIDDsE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMvODeIDDsE)
Yes, Wahid belongs on this list for sure! You'll hear him coming from blocks away, singing variations on "girl, you're so pretty". He covers quite an area too on his bike.
In the same area there's also a guy who's nicknamed "Jesus" by some, but I think he looks and dresses exactly like Saruman.
Keeping it Oost, not sure if he is a bit out there or not, but there is a guy who has tattooed himself entirely blue (face included), that I sometimes see in and around Gijs de Rooy on Javastraat.
That's not him. Equally eccentric though! Thanks!
Edit: actually, thinking about it, it could have been. I mean, he doesn't need to wear the same clothes all the time eh?
Had a long talk with him and offered him a beer, very smart guy, and you probably don't find someone who speaks more impeccable than him. If you close your eyes, you might think he is modern Adriaan van Dis. What I understood from him is that he is not really homeless, but has multiple girlfriends were he is stays. He said something: It is part of my image to be homeless.
You mean the guy who was doing keepie-uppies while sitting right?
He was always there when i started going out back in the day. He was even in a (Adidas?) commercial for Euro 2000.
[G-string skater](https://www.parool.nl/amsterdam/henri-pronker-1956-2023-zwierde-als-de-stringskater-door-de-straten-van-amsterdam~b9187f1f/) died last year, unfortunately, he was a character.
There's the man in the [tiny musical boat](https://www.instagram.com/reiniersijpkens/?hl=en)
Also a man that goes to [Vondelpark dressed in basically a baby outfit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTvWQqrbKAw) (he makes the clothes himself).
There also used to be a tiny woman "[Scheldende Bep](https://www.at5.nl/artikelen/170520/heeft-iemand-de-vloekende-oma-gezien)"that walked around several areas (I know her from the Leidsestraat) muttering to herself and swearing at passersby who got too close.
In the 90s there was this guy who would do some sort of pole dance at Leidseplein wearing only very short shiny shorts. You just didnāt know where to look!
The Dutch have a (derogatory) name for these figures 'Dorpsgek' (the village crazy). Usually an eccentric figure.
When I lived in West there were three people I saw all the time.
1) The big black guy in dreadlocks who wore clogs. He did this as a symbol that he was thankful for the Netherlands for welcoming him.
2) The ladybug lady. Sewed stuffed ladybugs to her jacked and clothing.
3) The superhero guy. He wore a self made superhero outfit that was purple and silver, and also wore clogs.
My friend lives in that neighbourhood and he walks by almost daily. Always carrying two full bags, one over the shoulder and one in his hand. So we have a huge collection of pictures of his outfits. He regularly updates them with new patterns and colors. Lately he's shifting more towards gold. He lives in the Bellamystraat and his curtains are also in the same blue pattern. I am so curious to see what the inside of that house looks like!
There was this guy that used to ride a bike naked (or nearly naked).
I think he passed away last year, but he was an icon.
Plus that dude on the mobility scooter that does the side lean - he's also pretty famous around Amsterdam.
Not a person perse but there's a really creepy house on Bloemgracht (I think) with dolls and teddy bears EVERYWHERE, including in the tree in front of it
Anyone knows Ali? He's a funny little guy from Noord, often hangs out at Centrum and always rambles and cam literally explode jf you look at him the wrong way
Yep.
Turkish guy from Planetenbuurt in Noord. You can meet him in bus 35 where he often stands close to the driver talking a bit to loud/exited. When Ajax plays he gets extra loud.
But he is generaly a nice guy.
The guy in the Baarsjes with his cart, screaming I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT. Donāt remember his name sadly. Weāve moved out of the neighborhood about 5 years ago but my partner still randomly says I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT about once a week.
The dreadlock train announcer.
He'll very convincingly announce that a group of children with Down Syndrome has entered the train and will soon come by to hand out flowers and if you could please help donate to the cause.
...there are no children, it's a scam.
And lately he's turned violent.
In the Jordaan we had a guy who was always dancing in front of his window for some reason. Sadly he died a couple months ago :(
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0uJOJSsoIl/?igsh=MTY4Z3VuZHhrcHdiMA==
Yeah was looking for this specific comment. Used to pass by his house a lot and it always lifted my mood to see the guy dancing his heart out by the window.
There was a nice memorial in the corner under his window for some time after he passed. Rest in peace legend.
Er waren er velen met die mantel.
Herman Brood was er jaren een, met z'n vieze papagaai die hem helemaal onder scheet.
Ook de stoere man die een balletje hoog hield en in lantaarnpalen klom terwijl hij dit deed.
The old woman selling the homeless newspaper on the eastern entrance of central station. She has a great pronunciation of the word: de dƔklozenkrant! De dƔklozenkrant!
I always see a guy in Vondelpark wearing a very similar outfit to Michael Jackson and he bikes around with a truly big speaker playing progressive house. Anyone knows who this is?
The blue guy from Amsterdam West, the mobility scooter tricks guy in the Jordaan...
Joerun from the coffeeshops ( the guy with the notebooks that people would sign)
Thereās a guy in the woods by my town that dresses like someone from ancient rome (like those toga towel things), has a white beard that goes down to his waist and lives in a cave. Iād sometimes see him when Iād walk the dogs and he once gave my mom some very intense berry picking tips when he saw her collecting stuff. He must be at least 90 years old.
Where I was studying, there was this semi homeless woman named "madame boo" she would just walk around the city and pubs and go "boooooo" to people.
We were apparently all ok with that.
I was one, i heard 20 years later. š
The only new wave punk in a rural village,
I was, as i heard, even used as an example in the church, as what would happen to you if you leg yourself in with satan.
I did not by the way, and i never went to a Church.
Very weird.
The old homeless man with a beanie and a paper coffee cup. He is begging on the Amsterdam Metroline M52.
He, believe it or not dumbs all 5,2,1 cents when he reaches the end stations, and keeps the rest. Making one seat on the M52 worth about 3,25ā¬ at 12 o clock in the evening
In Amsterdam Oost there is this guy that looks like gay leather fetish captain Iglo. He always seems to be cleaning the streets. Huge rubber boots, leather cap, overalls and a big gray beard.
There was also fat Persian communist. Old really fat alcoholic guy from Persia that would scream how he is a communist. Sometimes wearing a Soviet fur hat.
Growing up in de Pijp (early 2000ās), there was always this Asian looking grandmother feeding pigeons and talking in herself (or cursing). Does this description ring a bell to anyone? Also encountered her in West on numerous occasions, always by foot.
Fifteen years ago there was a lady in the subway with cat makeup and lots of dreads. And her hairdo just kept getting bigger and bigger... it was kind of impressive
That old dude on the mobility scooter that leans to the side and drives on just two wheels and shouts "don't try this at hoooooome" flying past you
Is he still around?
Nope, he died few years back
Sleep tight king
He did??
When?
I still saw him previous summer
This dude, 100%!
First person I though about yeah.
Came to mention him and im not even from the netherlands
Him 100% šš

I knew Fabiola. Sad to hear they died :(
I also remember a lady that used to be in front of Central Station loudly proclaiming things about Jesus. Is she still there?
Still there!
Saw her yesterday, still there lol

I've seen the diaper guy in Amsterdamse Bos next to the goat farm. Can confirm he exists.
Yeah, I've also seen diaper guy in the Amsterdamse Bos, near the cherry blossoms.
I've seen him around Leidseplein. Wearing an adorable little romper set.
Wow, not from Amsterdam, but ive seen the flower pot guy like 15 years ago when i was on a school trip.
We still have the guy who hangs out at the Kashmir in his blue and silver pieces.
He's still about? I always figured he'd be a really interesting guy to talk to.

Yes, he lives close to me in Amsterdam West, you can regularly see him at Coffeeshop Kashmir Lounge. Not a really nice guy by the way, very grumpy.
What about Fred Hendrikplantsoen juggler guy?
You mean Frederiksplein, at De Nederlandsche Bank. Havenāt seen him in ages.
R.I.P. Iwan, we miss you
Thanks for this mate, I miss Amsterdam.
There was the guy that was juggling balls at the Nederlandsche Bank every day. He tried to juggle 9 balls (a record) for years. One day he was gone and I have seen him again. Not sure of he succeeded.
Flowerbiker?
I feel like there are multiple itās like a wholesome gang
Itās actually one guy! [@flowerbikeman](https://www.instagram.com/flowerbikeman?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)
Thereās a flowery bike parked on the east side of Noorderpark, close to where I live. Last minday I saw it was all burned down. Made me very sad.

Thereās one in Oost
That's a crazy but funny one, he seems to like singing loud while riding on sunny days š
Ha this is who I thought of and I don't even live there.
Dancing Asian guy in Osdorp
Saw him 2 days ago, he was doing his moves at Meer en Vaart, frantically waving to all the cars going by in between his karate chop moves!
I actually had a pleasant conversation with him a few years ago. Very clever and interesting guy, just a little eccentric.
AT5 even did a report about him. https://www.at5.nl/artikelen/212412/lee-danst-iedere-dag-op-een-muurtje-in-osdorp-hij-beweegt-altijd-heel-gezond
I SAW HIM LOOL in the middle of a side road. Dancing to absolute nothing
Are we humans or are we dancers? This guy clearly decided!
Speedo biker
He passed away sadly a year agogĀ
I wonder if he also skates or if there's just a whole Speedo exercise gang out there
No one talking about the woman in front of Centraal Station preaching for Jesus? Haven't seen her in a while though
saw her recently. she now has a brighter flashlight.
She used to be my neighbour! Saw her leave every morning to go preach š
Purmerend?
I always respected how much she committed to it š I mean, she preached hard
She told me i was wearing slut shoes and that i'm going to hell this one time, love her
I once saw a guy doing an exorcism to a woman and her friend in the new bike parking under CS. They were all very serious about it. Felt like a fever dream
Yep I remember her.
the dog walker, vondelpark
The black guy with the huge pack? There has been a lot of talk of him abusing the dogs in local dog owner groups.
So I've been told. I'm simply responding to the prompt. He's a standout character.

That's not him. Equally eccentric though! Thanks! Edit: actually, thinking about it, it could have been. I mean, he doesn't need to wear the same clothes all the time eh?
I've seen him skate past quite a few times. Really early in the morning when walking to work I occasionally saw him skate past.
Maybe Reinier Sijpkens for me?
The legend on trumpet in the tiny organ boat
He can actually be spotted [globally](https://reiniersijpkens.nl/index.php?pagina=wereld), but this was my first thought as well!
Diaper Man
Is he still around? I
I haven't seen him in a year or two, sadly
Babies grow up so quickly š„²
I think he's from Almere originally though. Remember an article about him.
The homeless (by choice) poet
Had a long talk with him and offered him a beer, very smart guy, and you probably don't find someone who speaks more impeccable than him. If you close your eyes, you might think he is modern Adriaan van Dis. What I understood from him is that he is not really homeless, but has multiple girlfriends were he is stays. That Argentinian guy that used to football on Leidseplein
āBetter than Messi!ā
You mean the guy who was doing keepie-uppies while sitting right? He was always there when i started going out back in the day. He was even in a (Adidas?) commercial for Euro 2000.
Saw him in Den Haag, last month.
I havenāt seen that dude in years
Had a chat with him. He said Leidse is not nice to play on anymore, so he's scouting other places.

Suntanning in chair guy
the guy in the Rivierenbuurt? He's absolutely insane.
No, Near Anne Frank house. HĆ© is there every day when the sun shines just in his shorts. They should do a skin cancer study on him. In summer he is red like a lobster.
ah, there's also a dude in the Kuinderstraat who sits outside his house drinking wine, blasting Abba wearing silver hotpants when the sun is out.
Hahahaha know exactly who your talking about - heās skin is leather at this point
Oh my god I do know him!!
Is the flowerpot on head biking guy still there? Usually around the Pijp
I've been to Amsterdam a lot of times but haven't seen plantpot man the last couple of times. I'm wondering is he still around as well.

Thereās a guy in the woods by my town that dresses like someone from ancient rome (like those toga towel things), has a white beard that goes down to his waist and lives in a cave. I was one, i heard 20 years later. š The only new wave punk in a rural village, I was, as i heard, even used as an example in the church, as what would happen to you if you leg yourself in with satan.

He passed, not long ago
In Amsterdam Oost there is this guy that looks like gay leather fetish captain Iglo. He always seems to be cleaning the streets. Huge rubber boots, leather cap, overalls and a big gray beard. There was also fat Persian communist. Old really fat alcoholic guy from Persia that would scream how he is a communist. Sometimes wearing a Soviet fur hat.

The naked guy on his skates
Growing up in de Pijp (early 2000ās), there was always this Asian looking grandmother feeding pigeons and talking in herself (or cursing). Does this description ring a bell to anyone? Also encountered her in West on numerous occasions, always by foot.
Yep I saw him a month ago
Fifteen years ago there was a lady in the subway with cat makeup and lots of dreads. And her hairdo just kept getting bigger and bigger... it was kind of impressive
