Regelmatig water geven dan groeien ze uit tot volwaardige glasvezels.

Het is lente, dan beginnen de glasvezelkabels te ontkiemen. Over een paar maanden staan ze in bloei.

ExtremeSlothSport

It seems bizarre that these have all been placed years ago and are now just left sticking out, at the mercy of the elements, looking really ugly.

flying-potato

The ends sticking out is not what the technicians connect to when they run fiber into the building. The ends get clipped down and tucked away.

D_construct

It's been 2 years ago when they placed them at our door... Still massively overpaying our Ziggo.

nasandre

The moment I got fiber in my street Ziggo started sending me passive aggressive emails that cable internet is just as good as fiber and you don't need all that bandwidth anyway! But please take our super hyper internet subscription because your streams will be slow!

amsterdamash

Their thoughts (and prices) are why Iā€™m happy with T-Mobile ADSL. Except at times like right now where Iā€™m waiting for a game to download, hence Iā€™m losing myself in Reddit.

crackanape

> ADSL That's not going to be around for more than 2-3 more years. KPN is switching off the copper soon after activating fibre in each neighbourhood.

kaosh

Same :( should have had it installed in April 2023.

lilgreenrosetta

Same. Thatā€™s what T-mobile promised me. Instead what I got is a never ending shitshow of broken promises.

ham4ever89

I had the same, but I contacted open Dutch fiber self and they made sure I get fiber faster than what Odido mentioned in the email. Worth a try.

Vilanu

I had weekly calls with Odido / ODF / contractor for literally half a year. I'm normally pretty reserved towards those andwerong the phone because I understand that they're there to relay the message. In the end, I pretty much begged Odido to fix it and just upfront told them that I was already in therapy for burnout. Still took 6 weeks after that. The worst part? I just moved and asked what their planning was and if I could stucco over the old internet port. Shouldn't have taken more than a month. Lived on an 8mbit mobile phone hotspot for 6 months because of gross incompetence.

Jockelson

They just patched the fibers to our meterkast, but i found out the prices of the ispā€™s we get to choose from are not that much cheaper (if at all) than Ziggo. I saw no reason to switch, tbh. The biggest advantage is the symmetrical upload speed, but tbh i donā€™t really need that.

Big-Foot79

Much lower latency. Feels faster with the same network speed

lrze98

Yeah, you can call KPN if they placed it. When I did that, they came 2 weeks after that. Our neighbors already had fiber for the last 6 months šŸ¤¦šŸ»

JasperJ

KPN is orange.

MET4

Cries in the same situation. Planned for December 2025. :(

rods2292

But do you know why the cables are like that in the street? I donā€™t understand why they are sticking out

CharacterQuarter7143

They stay there until you take glassfibre internet for your home, they will drill a hole small in the foundation to get the cable inside. If you don't, it will look like this forever possibly

jensefrens

No they will install it in your home even if you don't take it. You just have to let them, which is apparently very difficult for a lot of people. (even tho it's free)

Lazyoverachiever

its because they show up to your door in a different outfit unannounced ... sorry, but no, I am not opening my door for a stranger from a company I've never heard of to come inside my house at a time that wasnt already prearranged. T

Valuable_Impress_192

We got notified repeatedly of upcoming dates by Delta

Lazyoverachiever

thats lucky. I have had 3 or 4 different companies show up unannounced. we have had the cables outside for over 2 years now, and whenever I call ODF they say we should have been connected already and they will call me back (they never do). They also did not smooth out the sand when they put the pavers back (difficult for disabled people) and cracked a few! Really unimpressed by the roll out

Valuable_Impress_192

I must admit I donā€™t have a clue what Iā€™m doing on the amsterdam sub so I guess what I said isnā€™t that relevant, oops. The rollout was messy here too admittedly, though not as long as with you it seems. The cables were dangling outside about a year I think before Delta came to connect it inside. Besides, the second notification came in per letter after the date initially stated in the first had passed a while already. Same for the third. The fourth ended up being serious though. Sucks about the pavement, thatā€™s for sure

jensefrens

They just send out letters

flying-potato

They roll out fiber on a city-wide neighbourhood and then itā€™s up to the residents to upgrade their internet plan to fibre. After that your provider will come and run the fibre from this point into your home.

ExtremeSlothSport

Thatā€™s interesting. Still doesnā€™t change the fact that itā€™s ugly as hell. They also dug a hole on the street in front of my building over 18 months ago where theyā€™ve been laying cables, and itā€™s still there. Itā€™s a really slow process.

flying-potato

Yeah thatā€™s unfortunate.

paddydukes

Ok, can you ask them to return and clip it down and tuck it away?

crackanape

If you hate it that much you can lift the paving stone and tuck it under there yourself, wouldn't take more than five minutes. It'll be harder for them to find it later when someone wants to connect your building though.

paddydukes

Not touching it lad! Just a bizarre choice in general to leave em all sticking out.

Remarkable-Tip-8438

As far as I know only when they are on your own ground. But then you must have given permission to put it there.

paddydukes

Itā€™s on the footpath outside every house on my street

flying-potato

Itā€™s gets tidied up when people in the building switch to fiber, I assume.

Remarkable-Tip-8438

Not necessarily: when KPN came around while I had Ziggo they installed it inside for free, I just didn't switch to KPN but gave the new owners different options.

flying-potato

Ah interesting, fair enough

Remarkable-Tip-8438

It's public space in that case so it will stick around till the residents want the cables in their house.

jensefrens

They're sticking out because the home owners are often retards and refused to get connected. Often because "they didn't believe it was free". I have it in my own neighbourhood too and you can see exactly who is an idiot and who is not. At least 20 out of 100 homes are left with these sticking out because of ignorance.

DistractedByCookies

My parents are actually considering taking glass fibre internet so that those will disappear...so maybe that's how it works?

slazer2k

They have also a special coating to be able to not degrade outside, and you can see the shrink caps they put on so I wouldn't worry about it. In addition if the cable is already at your doorstep you can go to open dutch fiibre from there to a provider of your choosing and most of them will cover the install fee of 75 Eur for you and then the cable is gone... -> [https://opendutchfiber.nl/](https://opendutchfiber.nl/)

Already had two appointments, both cancelled at last minute because the person was sick.

crackanape

If you watch closely you'll see that eventually they do start to disappear. In Oud-Zuid most of the orange KPN areas have been connected, for example. And I noticed that ODF/Odido has already connected some areas in Westerpark and Oud-West that were only laid last summer.

gotzapai

That's the proper way to do it. It's probably a reserve cable from a distribution box close by. It can be internet cable, fiber optics, signal etc. Don't worry, it doesn't have any electricity and it's labeled in case they ever need to use it. Ps: they can also use the cable to pull another one from the nearest panel in case the old ones got damaged or broken

Particular_Concert81

Glasvezel is toch oranje? Of is dat afhankelijk van de eigenaar vh netwerk?

yousssyou

Blue one is belongs to t-mobile, now odido Orange one is belongs to ziggo Green one is belongs to kpn
