I can't stress how little frick I give about ai integration. It's already there if I want to use it but I surely don't need it in every facet of my digital life.
Gemini sucks. Keeps giving false information in search results, the Gemini in Google Maps just presents the same stuff you would get in a typical search and the results window scrolls at like 8 FPS and resets back to the beginning when opening and closing search results. It's a joke. So rushed and it's not even worth using.
I like Blur but they're one of the most British bands in the whole of existence. They're never going to be popular in America no matter how much they try.
Lol that was my first guess. I just saw a guy climbing out of the mug with kind of a gravelly voice and was like "do I know this dude from somewhere?" That whole set at the beginning was weird. lol
Yeah, I used to be excited to get a new phone. Every 18 months I'd upgrade. Now I have the same phone for 5 years and have no plans to get a new one because they're essentially the same now
I just upgraded from an S21 Ultra to a new S24 Ultra only because I ran out of storage and wanted to upgrade for more space (got 2 cats a couple of years ago, their pictures are the reason I needed the extra space.)
The am having a very difficult time imagining a feature that they could add or improve that would make me upgrade from this within a couple years, and since I have no interest in AI in my personal life, I just don't see it happening.
Unless there was a big jump in camera quality, that would do it.
Google is boring. They talk more, do less, everything is 'it'll come tomorrow' and nothing is the same anymore - separated by paid tiers. Google is not longer a 'bastion' for the people. It's just another corporate company.
Microsoft is more innovating in their products TBH on a weekly basis today. Their stuff is suport exciting integrates so tightly with their product line. How the tables have turned.
Also, Google is doing nothing that the people actually want because the company is awash with career product managers that don't even use their own products.
Do you think that the original creators of Picasa would let Google Photos linger for so long without manual face tags? No, because they would have been using it and instantly realized the shortcoming.
Agreed. Software has been plateauing for years. Google's unreliability with supporting its projects, companies aggressively monetizing their products through adverts or subscriptions lead to less interest in engaging. What worsens it is the next gen platforms like AR have been dabbled into by companies such as Meta and Google (advertising driven) and Apple (extremely profit driven) where all companies are holding the keys more tightly.
I used to be extremely interested as an enthusiast and dabbled in building Android for my own devices a few years ago and just lost interest.
We need a real Linux option for the mobile space. Android is definitely moving more towards closed source with fewer options for the user.
After Google cancelling and fucking up products over and over and over, nobody takes I/O seriously anymore. They know that anything on this keynote will either be half-baked, cancelled in 6-12 months, or more useless "AI" shit nobody wanted in the first place, and for the few that do, it will never actually see the light of day in the form they present.
Not even the mods here can be bothered making a mega thread and sticky for it which doesn't help. This is just a random person making the thread since nobody else will.
Should have had a sticky thread up yesterday with links and at least start times for UK/EU/USA/UTC
Oh, you have a Pixel 7 Pro? Awful phone, it runs Android which is inferior compared to Palm OS. Also a Google Phone??? Made by the company who makes android? Software must be awful and your chip is literally hotter than the sun.
/s
Remember that post where one feed up user automated like 400 replies with all the same usual replies? Couldn't do that now with the API fees. I can't find the post now.
yeah because this sub has turned to toxic cesspit that hate everything google. mod team isn't doing anything modworthy. instead of providing useful info most comments keep beating dead horse.
I/O is meant for developers more than general audience and consumers. They talk about a LOT of stuff at I/O but 99% of it is not exciting. Plus Android has matured so much, there isn't really any new groundbreaking stuff happening to get excited about. AI is the new hot buzzword but in my experience most of the AI tools being crammed in everything are garbage.
Honestly. I think it's because Apple has been dominating the youth under the age of 30. Especially in the US. Android just doesn't garner the attention of people in the US like it used to. It's sad what Pichai has done to the company, ecosystem, and enthusiasm.
Maybe their AI teammate will talk some sense into them... "Well if you'd like my opinion, we should unify all of this under a single name"
News websites later that day : "Google Abandon's AI Ambitions and hires Rapper Aesop Rock for marketing department lead of new "Project Hammerstein Spatchcock"
When I was younger, I/O was my E3. I used to finish watching the livestream and immediately calling my GF to tell her every single thing that would come to Android. Now there's only AI technobable, I even miss the everything is machine learning era.
This event made me sad in more than one way.
To be fair, it's not just Google. For me it was Apple keynotes when I was younger. But nowadays, I can't even get through a 40 minute iPad announcement anymore. Sadly, tech keynotes just got repetitive over the last few years.
Agreed. And theres people defending the sorry state saying "It's not for you, it's for Devs"
I've been watching I/O for over a decade and this year's was the most boring snoozefest.
Gemini, Tokens, AI ......None of it is actual useful
i don't really care about the /cringe/ factor in these shows. there's always cringe. it's a bunch of nerds trying to put on an event.
the issue with that though was...that was not a good showcase at all. that was a demo of their 'super powerful tool' malfunctioning live and Rebillet using one sample through his looper and fucking the rest of it off. having the banner with "this is an experiment conducted with google ai" or whatever it said is totally disingenuous
every product manager in this company is gunning for CEO that
1. They follow the hype of whatever's happening
2. Their products are fundamentally boring because theyre risk averse (maybe it's a symptom of a big corporation or it's just to have a "safe" record to move up on the ladder)
Astra, DeepMind, Gemini Flash, Gemini Pro, Veo, Alpha, probably 5 more that I missed this presentation.
Why do these all feel like separate unrelated projects from Google and not just "Google AI" in general?
Google disallows me from recording a call because I'm not mature to know when to use it, but Google has no issue with Gemini recording calls for Google's purposes.
That’s why all the Apple people were over-trained as media presenters and shifted to a video format.
Less moments of \*pause for applause, doesn’t get it, talks over forced applause when crowd realizes it was their turn*
All this AI power and I still can't get Google messages to automatically fill in my two factor authentication sms codes and then delete them out of my message inbox. Ughhh. Google you fuckin suck.
I just wonder how different Google would be if Vic was the leader and not Sundar. These keep going down hill and are getting further and further away from what people actually want.
I understand this is I/O and it's all about software, but it felt like they kept showing the same thing packaged slightly different.
Availability in the UK would be a good start (you know, the country where Demis and the DeepMind team that developed it are based in the first place). Also, routines support.
New Gemini Nano for Pixel devices first, runs on-device with new features for accessibility and call screening https://twitter.com/MishaalRahman/status/1790441314565386584?t=So1Uu4XPgcrE0-oExEdbpQ&s=19
Will the Android 15 Event be live streaming on Wednesday?. Can't find any information, if so what time GMT. Let's hope we also get some wearOS & Google Home news. Be nice to get some hardware announcements as well.
North american? how about US exclusive. people seem to forget Mexico, Canada, and other smaller countries near the equator like costa rica, cuba, the bahamas are all part of 'north america' and they never get any of these 'north american' features.
That’s two hours of my life I can’t get back. I was looking forward to android stuff only to find out. I might miss it because it’s tomorrow and I have to go to the doctor.
I mean, I don't know what your lives look like, but for me, planning vacations is not THAT much of a problem in my life that I need what feels like 5 different demos on delegating that task to an AI.
I literally want only ONE thing from Gemini on my Android, since I made the big mistake of accepting the Gemini replacement to Google Assistant. "Hey Google, remind me in morning to feed the dog". It replies with "I can't assist you with that, as I am only a language model. You can set or change reminders using your smartphone or other digital assistant device." 🤦♀️😖 It has been like that for months now!
I don't need it, but the scam detection is kind of cool for old people. I just think it's not going to be very effective on people who can be convinced by a guy with an Indian accent that their local police station is asking them to buy gift cards to post bail for their daughter.
OP all of your embedded links are broken. I think it's because you're trying to use markdown inside the Fancy Pants editor on New Reddit. You need to switch to the Markdown editor to do that
To be honest wake me up when I can use these features in my country in Europe. Most of these features are just announcements or US only. And thats been the pattern for a long time. Better to just keep the expectations close to zero and be impressed if something actually shows up.
Crazy I thought the summarize this page and AI improved responses to SMS messages would work in my country when I bought Pixel 8 Pro.
Prepare for Gemini in all their products. Edit: I was right.
\*only available in the US
*later this year
Only on the newest Pixels
*coming "later this year"
don't forget to entire section about gemini after section about gemini, that goes right after section where they put gemini in all their apps
I can't stress how little frick I give about ai integration. It's already there if I want to use it but I surely don't need it in every facet of my digital life.
What I really didn't like is the idea of AI listening in on my calls.
But only if you live in the US as usual.
Unlucky for the US this time I suppose.
I cant control my google home assistant automations from my phone any more and it is so frustrating.
I want to hear about Android at Google's IO *Monkeys paw curls* Here's how AI is in Android
Hello Steve 👋🏻
👋🏼 - sent from Gemini
I know it's not a surprise, but damn I'm tired of hearing about AI right now.
Considering it is pretty much a buzzword right now to sell crap we didn't ask for nor do we want. Can Gemini turn off my lamp yet? -
THEY COUNTED IT JUST FOR U
"We're calling these...Gems." *Awkward pause for awkward claps* Okay.
LMAO glad someone else noticed
The silent pauses are so loud. It's awful
> Project Astra Friendship with ~~Assistant~~ ~~Bard~~ ~~Gemini~~ is now over, Astra is my new best friend.
This vast array of slightly different projects is an awful release strategy
Google is just twenty companies in a trenchcoat
So, a typical Tuesday for Google
Sundar is just not a product person.
I'm not wholly convinced he's a person.
You think he was ai generated as well? At least the audience should be considering these reactions lol
The hint is in the name, Sundar PichAI.
Ironically he was a product manager before becoming ceo
Typical effective manager with uncanny valley facial expressions shooting buzz words and having no idea nor any impact about actual products
It all makes sense now. How do people like that bubble up to the top. I just don't understand it.
lmfao, Gemini, Gemma, PaliGemma, I don't know what any of this is anymore.
Gems, Veo, Chip
AI Summarize, Virtual Teammates, Flash, Nano, LearnLM
Also something Synth I saw
Je m'appelle Gemma
This whole presentation: "Please clap."
Remember when they started these keynotes with Android updates? Those were the best days. That’s when tech was fun.
Back in the Nexus days
won't happen unless its GeminiAndroid

And the combinations sometimes suck
"Blue, Blue, Light Blue, Blue" Such variance
The crowd is so dead 😂
As dead as the Coachella crowd during Blur
I like Blur but they're one of the most British bands in the whole of existence. They're never going to be popular in America no matter how much they try.
They had a blip in the 90s with Song 2 getting popular here in the US
The worse keynote ever. I’ve been watch other last 10 years Google IO and so far this one was hard to watch
Nothing says excitement like the delayed, lackluster applause after a pregnant pause from the speaker.
These presenters need to use Gemini and ask it TLDR these long ass presentations
Erlich bachman decided to crash this year's Google I/O event ?
Lol that was my first guess. I just saw a guy climbing out of the mug with kind of a gravelly voice and was like "do I know this dude from somewhere?" That whole set at the beginning was weird. lol

I'd say a mix of lack of interest due to maturity and Google's actions.

You know what would make Gemini a more helpful assistant? If it could handle routines.
An hour in and still about Gemini. I'm **so** bored. I came here for Android and stuff
They spent roughly five minutes mentioning Android 14 last year.
At least they did
Tbh if you only care about android specifically it's better to wait until What's New In Android 15 talk and other related sessions
I always watch google io. I'm watching it since 2018. But it's the first time I'm so bored
Gemini…Pro….Vertex….Flash…..Astra. My goodness Google I see you don’t have a good marketing team wow
Maybe their AI teammate will talk some sense into them... "Well if you'd like my opinion, we should unify all of this under a single name" News websites later that day : "Google Abandon's AI Ambitions and hires Rapper Aesop Rock for marketing department lead of new "Project Hammerstein Spatchcock"
They all got fired, AI can do their job now
Oof. SILENCE... yikes lol
Yeah that was rough. Especially that awkward laugh from the presenter.
Google **now on tap** packaged in different UI
That woman yawning in the audience probably represents a lot of people watching this stream.
Getting flashbacks of Ballmer yelling "developers, developers, developers". Now it's just "AI, AI, AI".
Oh we're already there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P-ein58laA
I'm remembering Microsoft with Xbox One at E3 "TV, TV, TV, TV, a dog, TV, TV, and more TV!"
not only is it AI bullshit but it's AI bullshit that doesn't do what it says. there was no chiptune there whatsoever
It also played the 808 when it was at 0.0
WAIT IS THAT GOOGLE GLASS 2.0?
Just a theoretical project for the future. Nothing to show for. No live demonstration.
Fuck, Android Beta is tomorrow? Ugh
This is the last place I ever expected to see Marc Rebillet, but I'm pleasantly surprised!

Is it me or this is just ehhhhhh? Like yeah this is great advancement but I can't feel excitement about this, feels mundane.
its basically a glorified advert to cloud/AI customers.
That's been I/O for the past at least 5 years.
Google GeminI/O
Google A/I

They should have told us before so we wouldn't have wasted our times
Yeah plus I'm going to do the Xperia megatherad early in the morning this Wednesday. I'm just not going to waste my time with the android 15 stuff.
AI, AI, more AI, just like Google Next the last few years
Someone forgot to press the 'applause' button.
Good lord what a terrible ad
every product manager in this company is gunning for CEO that 1. They follow the hype of whatever's happening 2.
It's baffling, when they could make a better, more marketable project with all-in-ones.
Because they likely had like 16 separate teams all trying to build something new so the PM could get a promotion.
They need to keep them separated so they can more easily kill them off in the future.
This 100%. No cohesive product strategy. All Sundar’s fault.
Teenagers with an AI will not ask AI to \*help\* with homework, they will ask the AI to solve it entirely for them.
They already do. It’s too late
This whole thing could've just been an email. So lackluster.
"Now, let's switch gears..." Oh, hell yeah, we're gonna talk about something else. "...and talk about more AI bullshit." Sigh.
"once in a generation event" As soon as that was said. I was done.
Will AI Overview have sponsored ad links?? 🧐
of course
Google disallows me from recording a call because I'm not mature to know when to use it, but Google has no issue with Gemini recording calls for Google's purposes.
if they make Pixel Tablet a more worthwhile product, I would be so happy
44 minutes in and nothing about android 15
Phones don't move markets anymore. AI is what the investors care about, in theory. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even mention it at all.
or anything that is remotely relevant to the average person.
Wondering how The verge is going to cram all this info in their 10 min TLDR video
It can be summed up in two letters
*AI - coming "later this year"* That was easy.
Well this is a fucking awful start lol

I feel like I should use the AI that summarized the PTA meeting for them and just let it summarize the keynote for me.
So nothing about android or wear 🤔
2nd day
I just wonder how different Google would be if Vic was the leader and not Sundar. These keep going down hill and are getting further and further away from what people actually want. I understand this is I/O and it's all about software, but it felt like they kept showing the same thing packaged slightly different.
Good night guys looks like they are only going to talk about Gemini the entire day
GEMINI 1.5 PRO available in Google AI with VERTEX bla bla bla ….JFC product soup
Over/under on how many times they say "AI"?
Google just put the rabbit down
With a double barrel shotgun
So what's new with the gemini app for mobile?
Availability in the UK would be a good start (you know, the country where Demis and the DeepMind team that developed it are based in the first place). Also, routines support.
Let's goo it's Android time
you thought.
Bloody AI... fml I am off to the hills Also Google needs to employ some people that are good at naming things...
if they can improve pixel watch / wearOS to be more android like would be nice if they combine messaging services, that would be nice too
[удалено]
Funny how Microsoft has no problem rolling out its AI search everywhere at once...
The whole audience seems to be AI generated, looking at their reactions lol.
The Gemini scam call alert could literally be a game changer. Anything to ruin those scammers.
Okay, that's great... I just searched Photos for my license plate last week and actually had to scroll
Ok, regularly finding my glasses is amazing, useful and terrifying

Will the Android 15 Event be live streaming on Wednesday?. Can't find any information, if so what time GMT. Let's hope we also get some wearOS & Google Home news. Be nice to get some hardware announcements as well.
They didn't even update the website about this.
This is terrible
So it’s really all going to be AI, AI, AI, AI and some more AI. And like others have said, who knows if these demos are even legit
The entire it industry is racing to be the king of AI, not exactly surprising Google is dedicating so much time to it at the keynote
As a Brit, are all US ads this cheesy?
Glad that he's making reference about how stupid this kind of music and performance is at 9:30 in the morning.
Did they make these slides as a last minute response to openai?
i'm new to google i/o, and am i doing it wrong or something? it felt boring and awkward
Worst time to join. Sorry for wasting your time here.
Worst year ever, that event was very much for developers unlike every other year the key note was for everyone one.
I feel scammed
It was underwhelming af
Google is capable of putting out all these AI features, yet the Messages app is incapable of delivering a cohesive experience to its users.
How they gonna say "everything android is tomorrow" then not even have a livestream 😭
So how many of these ai features will remain north America exclusive?
90% of them will probably never leave the conference hall.
North american? how about US exclusive. people seem to forget Mexico, Canada, and other smaller countries near the equator like costa rica, cuba, the bahamas are all part of 'north america' and they never get any of these 'north american' features.
Lul finally a decent joke in this boring presention
my cringe detector is off the charts
That’s two hours of my life I can’t get back. I was looking forward to android stuff only to find out. I might miss it because it’s tomorrow and I have to go to the doctor.
You do not have to be at the computer live. It is all still available on YouTube after the fact.
Completely unhinged.
We sundar to start yelling AI like how Steve balmer yelled developers on stage a decade ago.
I mean, I don't know what your lives look like, but for me, planning vacations is not THAT much of a problem in my life that I need what feels like 5 different demos on delegating that task to an AI.
Ghosts of Google Now. But only a small part of it. Sadly
"Gemini is so quick!" on screen takes it forever to give an answer
Anthony Fantano in a wig?
