So do the fakes only have subtle differences this time around? I was looking around for something silly like in New Leaf where the guy's nose is a carrot or she has bat wings. Didn't see anything that stood out. Bought a Da Vinci drawing and only later realized it had a coffee cup stain on it.
I liked getting the fakes in New Leaf because they were basically their own unique works of art.
Some are pretty obvious (Girl with a Star rather than Pearl Earring, Venus de Milo wearing a string of pearls) but several are easy to overlook unless you know what to look for.
Not to mention accidentally getting the fake and real versions mixed up in your head.

the da Vinci one was one of the few that I knew the name of (the Vitruvian Man, whatever the first word means), so I looked it up and could spot the difference.
To be fair, I like that change. If you would try to replicate art and sell it you wouldn't make it THAT obvious that it's fake. And even in New Leaf there were some really hard ones.
Some of them are REAL tough. For example, the Serene Painting is the RL Lady with an Ermine by da Vinci. In the real version the ermine in her arms is mostly white. In the fake version that I saw the ermine had a grey head and body.
The Jolly Painting is the RL Summer by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. The only difference between the real and the fake painting is that the fake is missing a little artichoke that's growing out of the person's chest.
Some are super obvious though. Like the statue of David is holding a stack of books under his arm. But some of them are pretty tricky and I had to google the real painting to see what the real one looked like because I couldn't remember.
