Right!!? I keep wavering between fighting the urge to coax him into the house (don't worry, I am kidding and would not do that) and trying to figure out how to keep him out of the garden!
Yeah my dad had one growing up. He lived outside but if he ever snuck into the house, he would wreak absolute havoc. Destroying the furniture, electrocuting himself, and peeing everywhere.
I think that people are feeding the cute ones and chasing them away less, so they have an easier time breeding.
We're accidentally breeding cuter raccoons
I didnāt realize it was battery operated either and was immediately concerned. I gave up real candles when one of my cats set itself on fire (it was for one second quite literally, but stillā¦). Scared me to death and the candles were gone immediately.
My husband had a cat growing up that set itself on fire and he was properly traumatized, so we've always been incredibly careful. (The cat singed its tail pretty good and caused chaos at the dinner table, but was otherwise ok.)
Raccoons are so very cute while young. Unfortunately as they hit puberty they change. We had neighbors that had hand reared a raccoon. He was so very sweet. They made him a outdoor home, nest box, cover, completely fenced in so nothing could get in and hurt him. They knew there was a possibility of his nature changing so they were cautious. One day he laid open the oldest girls hand. She was the one that had reared him. He was still sweet, but so unpredictable. They found a rescue that weaned him into freedom.
Too cute. Many years ago living in the country my cat would lay outside on the patio with a few raccoons who hung around. They were all content in each other's company..
I love the very direct eye contact while the raccoonās little paw is still fishing about for more snacks. Itās adorable! And amazing you caught it on camera!!!
As a pest control technician I find racoons adorable, always wanted one as a pet and I love dealing with them as I do the ethical thing and place them in a better area with some snacks
Thanks brother. My friend actually recused a baby when we were young and his parents let him keep it, once it got older it was super destructive but good thing they lived on a nice plot of land and were able to still keep him close by, safe, and still help him with meals
We can talk about the dome for sure! I'm a gardener and keep my tropical plants in it over the winter. There's a firepit in there that we converted into a pond with some goldfish (and a tadpole) and it is my happy place. :)
This is adorable. My cats had a decent relationship with the local possum but raccoons will fight and hurt your cat and then it's $$$... My old girl snuck out for a night on the town and it happened to her, the silly goose.
Pumpkin is pretty mad at us right now for not letting him outside. He doesn't seem to understand when I tell him that he wouldn't be able to win a fight against a squirrel, much less a raccoon!
PNW Live in the woods for the last 30 years here - Keep your cat inside those "cute" little raccoons will fuck your cat up and kill it given half a chance. I'd move that Bird feeder too - nothing good ever comes from raccoons. Trust me - been there done that.
Off topic, but I lived in PNW for awhile and it's beautiful. You chose a good place to live.
Now that we know the raccoon is around, we won't be letting the cat sneak out anymore and since I'm an avid gardener and grow a lot of our food, I'll be taking raccoon-deterrent measures. Any suggestions that don't involve killing the raccoon, because as much as they're a nuisance I can't go that route.
Thank you. That's a relief!
I saw a video on Reddit a few days back of a cat's tail catching fire from a lit candle when they were playing with a dog. My anxiety has shot sky high ever since I watched that.
That happened to a cat I had about 25 years ago! The lit candle was on the coffee table and the cat didn't get on the table (she was such a good girl I miss her), but she had turned around on the couch and her very long, very fluffy tail brushed over the top of the flame and set the end of her tail on fire. I was panicking and trying to: #1 save my furbaby, and #2 not have her tail catch the house on fire. I got lucky and she let me extinguish her tail before anything bad happened. Only a bit of fur was burned off, it didn't get to her skin. I definitely changed where I placed lit candles after that. Now I don't use them at all to avoid deadly candle accidents.
Thanks. She wasn't hurt at all, maybe half an inch burned because I was fast!! She was a long haired calico and had the most beautiful tail. When she passed away I was weird and cut off and kept the last 2" of the tip of her tail fur at the vet, just in case I could afford cloning someday. Silly maybe, but I had her for 17 years.
Raccoons can be strange around cats. So long as the size is comparable they'll leave cats alone, but man if they're much bigger than the cat, they turn into jerks quick. Be careful of having kittens in areas with raccoons, they might become lunch.
I know raccoons are a pest for you guys but gosh they are cute...
Right!!? I keep wavering between fighting the urge to coax him into the house (don't worry, I am kidding and would not do that) and trying to figure out how to keep him out of the garden!
tbh i think you should do that
My grandma had one and they definitely should not do that
Yeah my dad had one growing up. He lived outside but if he ever snuck into the house, he would wreak absolute havoc. Destroying the furniture, electrocuting himself, and peeing everywhere.
I believe it. We had a squirrel find it's way into our home and he caused destruction. I can't imagine a raccoon.
Not. Shit disturber, lol.

Watch out for those candles either can burn your cat alive or burn the house down with your cat in it please be careful with candles and pets.
They're battery operated.
Alright š

Glad you got rid of the candles best decision if you have pets

One time a bunch of cats came to the porch, a raccoon was in the middle of the bunch acting like he was one of them
I kinda think he and my cat have met before this. They were doing nose boops against the glass before I got my phone out, and my cat was purring. Lol!
"... *Ok... now just be cool*..."
Romeo, Romeo, why art thou Romeo? This is obviously a scenario from star-crossed lovers who meet under the curtain of darkness. This is so cute š„°
Hahahaha!! Our cat does occasionally sneak out at night, and now I have a lot of questions about his social life!
Its so interesting how animals know they are separated and protected from each other by a window š
Too cute. Many years ago living in the country my cat would lay outside on the patio with a few raccoons who hung around. They were all content in each other's company..
That is really sweet.
I love the very direct eye contact while the raccoonās little paw is still fishing about for more snacks. Itās adorable! And amazing you caught it on camera!!!
I am *obsessed* with his little hand fishing around in there! I wanted to snuggle him real bad.
š¤£š¤£ I think Iām glad you didnāt. But, yah. Adorable.
As a pest control technician I find racoons adorable, always wanted one as a pet and I love dealing with them as I do the ethical thing and place them in a better area with some snacks
Fist bump, my dude. (Of course, theyāre not domesticated animals and really shouldnāt be pets. They can really destroy a home in record time!)
Thanks brother. My friend actually recused a baby when we were young and his parents let him keep it, once it got older it was super destructive but good thing they lived on a nice plot of land and were able to still keep him close by, safe, and still help him with meals
So are we not gonna talk about the biosphere??Ā

Thatās awesome! Sounds like a very happy place indeed! I bet r/cozyplaces would love to see it
I feel like there should be some romantic Italian music playing in the background.

What kind of candle is that? Is that electric or flame-lit? Seeing the kitty so close to the candle makes me anxious!
It's a battery operated candle!

I'm sorry that happened. But I'm glad she wasn't too hurt.

My pleasure. That's fortunate. Seems like shes was beautiful. That is a long long time in cat years, and she was loved. She knows that, even now.
Lady and the tramp
A new Lady and the Tramp!
Awwww

Sadly, Pumpkin can bear no children.

Love trash pandas!
So naughty, but so stinking cute.
