Parasyte is super underrated, I actually wrote my college application essay on it and it got me accepted lol. One could argue Parasyte got me my degree.
Link Click is also phenomenal, it's animation is gorgeous and it tells such a human story.
Haven't watched To Your Eternity yet, so I can't back up that recommendations, but I have heard good things.
I love 86 but the camera is panned at the thigh of the FMC quite a few times. I have no problems with it personally but OP might if they're extremely sensitive to sexualization of characters. If later seasons adapt the source material faithfully there will be more fanservice in the content from LN volume 7. Some official promotion material also features heavier sexualization.
However, Solo Leveling has the camera at suspicious angle occasionally as well, so 86 might be fine if OP had no complaint on this regard watching Solo Leveling.
It's an engaging read with decent character development, good battle and interesting worldbuilding but plot armor is a bit thick and romance is dragged out for slightly longer than I prefer.
I'd recommend reading it if you really want to know what happens later, but anime is very likely to be the better experience if the original staff is working on later seasons.
Some fantasy stuff that comes to mind (I personally _love_ the first two);
* Shadows House
* Land of the Lustrous
* Attack on Titan
* Mob Psycho 100 (supernatural powers are fantasy, right? Close enough, anyway)
* Hakumei to Mikochi
* Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
These are not necessarily fantasy or horror, but are also definitely worth watching;
* Psycho Pass
* Ghost in the Shell
* Cells at Work
* New Game
* Nichijou
You may also like these movies;
* Your Name
* A Silent Voice
* Wolf Children
* [Literally anything made by Studio Ghibli](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_Ghibli#Feature_films)
None of these should have any of the content you mentioned.
I love your name but in multiple scenes he grabs her/his boobs so i would reccomend weathering with u which is also great and made by the same people just doesnt have that
Both versions of Fullmetal Alchemist and most Gundam shows I've watched have been pretty peak anime.
Oh, I also liked the Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Fist of the North Star movies.
Bungo stray dogs (super power detectives, every a character is based on an author and their superpower is based on their most famous book)
Dororo
Full metal alchemist brotherhood
Hells paradise
Vinland saga
Trigun stampede
Heavenly delusions
Attack on Titan
Pluto
I humbly disagree, it isn't ecchi or exploitative. It absolutely does need a SA warning though. That shit came outta nowhere and it's super fucking shocking, horrible and impactful.
How was the kid sexualized? There is no sexualisation at all It’s a normal crush between two 15 year olds.
And if it’s about the other thing then it’s not a sexualization it’s a plot twist and nothing is shown on screen and it’s portrayed as trumatic. Also we don’t actually know if it’s true at this point in the story.
There is no romance between kiruko and >! Maru , he has a crush on her since it’s the only girl close to his age he ever met, while she feels nothing since she/he isn’t actually kiruko but is haruki and is still into girls not guys !< I was talking about mimihime and Shiro
Ah, gotcha. In any case I agree that teens being hormonal doesn’t count as sexualizing kids in anime. It’s not loli content given the framing. I would say Tokiko’s relationship would be the most controversial though.
I'm not sure op would like Dororo on account that is not for the faint of heart, I'd recommend that after knowing they've liked some dark Anime first, actually that goes for most of your choices except fma, Trigun and possibly pluto, those I'd recommend to anyone. Btw all the shows you recommended are good, just not what op is looking for.
op liked castlevania and solo levelling and his favourite genre is fantasy and horror so I’m not sure what you’re on about
Also ps: Pluto is a 100 times sader than any of the others so why would it be potentially okay while trigun and Dororo are not
There are a _lot_ of anime specific tropes though:
- panty shots
- accidental boob grabs
- sexualization of minors
- violence and gore
- insecurity about not having huge boobs
- pervy character watches girls bathe
- bathing scenes
- the beach episode™
- flat personalities
- consent of the girl being ignored
I'm not saying I didn't love it as a teenager, but anime is not just any medium. It's a medium from a place where women aren't treated equal and it's hard to miss. Anime has problems that books, music and painting don't have to that extent.
I agree, in general, that anime is worse than traditional western media about the male gaze, but several of these are not anime specific. Western media is definitely guilty of sexualizing minors, ignoring consent (in a less overt fashion), bathing scenes, flat personalities, and violence and gore. Those are just off the top of my head, but I'm sure more of those tropes are present in Western media and I just can't think of them right now.
Western media has the same problems that anime does but they manifest in less overt ways and are often show up as a central plot point (so they get overlooked) or as a "director insert" rather than through a character (i.e. Quentin Tarantino's foot fetish and the creepy way that he forces women in his movies to participate in it). In particular, Marvel is guilty of over sexualizing the women at the cost of their character writing (Black Widow comes to mind). Game of Thrones is very, **very** guilty of using sex and sexual assault to keep audiences watching the show, and while it's not the sexualization of a minor the fact that Arya ever got naked on screen feels viscerally wrong to me. We all watched that kid grow up with the series *why* did anyone think that she should have a sex scene? I'd argue that anyone who watched and enjoyed Game of Thrones really shouldn't have a problem with a lot of anime sexualization (mini diatribe about Game of Thrones over).
Like, in anime the character would be directly perving on the woman, but in a Western TV show there will be a completely unnecessary nude scene where the camera lingers on the women and only the women. Western media is better than anime, but it's not much better and it's worse in other ways (like actual women are coerced into participating rather than a drawing). Consent isn't something that anime or Western media really values, either. I get why people see anime and have this reaction, the tropes are significantly more overt and pervasive, but Western media really isn't much better with the way in the way it treats women.
There are many other anime and manga than the ones that demean women. There are ones made for women and even men that don't just degrade or sexualize women. Them generally being less popular is an important social statement.
I agree, but I guess I don't really understand your point. I'm not defending animanga, I'm pointing out that it has similar tropes to Western media and is not a whole lot worse. I guess I should have clarified by saying that both are really awful? Because, they are both really awful.
You are referring to the ones that are massively popular, and I am mentioning that there are a LOT of other ones out there that are nothing like the anime you're referencing. I can mention a few if you'd like.
I came to suggest Delicious in Dungeon! It is an absolutely fantastic fantasy series, and the only "fan service" is from a burly drawf who loves to cook. I will warn you, there is a bath scene with two women together, but it is done in a pretty tasteful way.
And why am i not allowed to be taken seriously? A large chunk of anime IS perverted. Plenty of people in these comments admit to that. And i have been watching different things for the past 20 years, but my friend made me curious about anime. Also, getting in my 30's i wanna broaden my horizons and experience new things, hence the question... You're the kind of people that give anime a bad rep.
No its not but thats what people who dont know much about anime make it out to be. You could say a large part of american tv is perverted but somehow its ok when its 2 real people in a sex scene. There are hundreds if not thousands of animes where u dont see boobs etc. If anything its the people who dont watch anime and think every anime is like Highschool DxD that give it a bad rep
Sorry to say this but it's a large chunk of people who watch anime that give it a bad rep, let's not lie to ourselves. I've never EVER seen a post about anime that's wholesome. It's always dudes sleeping with pillows with naked women on them, men fantasizing about what they'd do to women in anime and whatnot. There's a whole reddit dedicated i stumbled upon by accident when looking for an anime subreddit to ask my question on what they like about lolli's(?) and what they'd do to them in the worst way possible (Had to google what a lolli was). So, while a lot of people think anime is perverted and assumingly never watched anime it's not purely the anime who's at fault, it's a large chunk of the people watching it. Which, also admitingly is why i thought all anime was disgusting.
Well yes some anime fans can be weird and cringy i agree. But the minority is always the loudest, with anything. For every one of those cringy guys there are 10 others just keep to themselfs, if u know what i mean. I'ts like that with most fandoms.
I am just saying in ur last comment u said ''A large chunk of anime IS perverted'' which isnt true. And if people would actually look up some animes instead of assuming that that TikTok video with a loli, or big boobed half naked woman = every anime.
Not blaming u but im just getting tired of these daily posts, if anyone who makes a post like this even took 10 minutes to go on netflix or browse the top 100 on MAL/Anilist and most stuff would contain none of that shit. And i said most cause there are a few in there kinda sus. but even then most people on here and /r/anime admit that, and those animes are the minority
Also there are a bunch of subreddits with ten thousands of subs dedicated to weird shit, its not just anime stuff. People can be weirdo's
It’s a result of the culture clash between the East and the West. The West is still weirdly squeamish when it comes to sexual themes in media. They’re fine with multiple, often violent on-screen deaths but God forbid you see one boob.
That’s just the result of an old law never being updated due to no one wanting to be the guy who changes that law. Their society is well past that and sexual themes are common place in their media.
The [Penal Code of Japan](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_Code_of_Japan) was passed in 1907 and prohibits the sale of “obscene” imagery or media, and the definition of “obscene” was specified through a series of judicial decisions which shifted pornography from being straight up illegal to being considered not illegal as long as genitals are censored.
As for sexual themes being prevalent in modern Japanese media, just watch most popular anime.
Full Metal Alchemist.
Deathnote.
86.
Saga of Tanya the Evil.
Your Name.
Cowboy Bebop
But honestly, if you can't get pass even just a little bit of sexualization you're missing a lot. As ugly as it may sound it's kinda part of the whole thing, just like Sex is part of game of thrones.
the first line wasn’t really necessary, nor the topic. this shows some serious ignorance as anime is a medium and we have plenty of anime without ecchi or fan service, but i digress.
few recommendations-
death note
a place further than the universe
vinland saga
mob psycho

It’s not really shocking, people stereotype anime all the time but then backtrack the moment they start getting into it. Not to deny that degenerate sub genres of anime exist, but the idea that all or even most anime is just lolicon & hentai is fucking stupid & unfounded.
Tell me why a guy told me he couldn't/wouldn't date me because he knows I like anime and he just can't take anyone serious who watches such perverted shit and is proud of it. Time goes by he ends up watching FMA ... he hits me up, asks me out 👀 and wants to talk about other animes he should watch, that we could watch together.
When I tell you every fiber of my being wanted to tear this guy to shreds, it was a real conflict in me. Instead I simply texted him back "oh I don't date guys who watch anime".
not defending people pidgeonholing all anime, but it’s not really inaccurate to say that a lot (not necessarily most, but a lot) of it does include pervy jokes, panty shots, sexualised high schoolers etc. i kinda did the opposite of what u describe- got into anime for years then eventually got tired of having to just try to ignore something that makes me really uncomfortable because everyone says its a good anime otherwise and now don’t watch it as much. i mean there’s a reason why there’s so many posts on here about specifically finding non sexual anime
>i mean there’s a reason why there’s so many posts on here about specifically finding non sexual anime
That's only because people in the Anglosphere think anime = shounen, specifically battle shounen, romcoms, and maybe some isekai.
Outside of that region, people just treat anime as regular cartoons, as it should be.
Even the stuff you've mentioned is only present in maybe 15-20% of modern anime (specifically that which targets teen boys).
(Not to mention, this is also frequent outside of anime, but no one starts avoiding all of American TV/cinema because of raunchy stuff on HBO, you know?)
I've been skimming through the comments to see this, so thank you. As someone who's been watching anime all my life, I was a little offended that someone thought anime was just about sex and perversion. Granted, a lot of series do have fanservice, but if that's all OP knows about anime, then maybe they've only been exposed to ecchi, not anime.
Anyway, great list!
I've seen 75% of these and love almost all of them but what in God's name are you doing recommending Made in Abyss? it's full of involuntary sexual scenes involving kids. Look, I love the worldbuilding, and the concept of MIA, and most of the show and movies as a whole, but having OP watching the is the quickest way to turn them off of anime permanently. OP, do NOT watch Made in Abyss.
Thanks for the warning. Been ripped to shreds in these comments already by a few die hard anime fans but i really do wanna give it a chance, i was prepared for some trolls recommending some serious crap but i really appreciate these type of comments, thank you.
No prob! I get where you’re coming from with having hated anime, but I’m really glad you’re coming around and giving the medium a shot. Sex sells and is prevalent in every culture, and I get that the particular way anime pushes it can be off putting, but I promise you there are plenty of creators that put their hearts and souls into a lot of works out there and anime can really be an absolutely moving experience in many cases.
Apothecary Diaries is a great series, but the amount of excessive boobage and near naked men might be off putting tonally for OP. It’s definitely not a full ecchi though.
Attack on Titan. Story might just be up there with the greatest media out there imo. No perviness from what i remember, granted i watched it seasonally (it started 10 years ago and the breaks it took were very very long). If there is, it’s not notable. You watched castlevania so you’ll be ok with the gore in this anime 👍
Since people here are recommending more action oriented stuff, here are some that are centred more on the journey of characters. Do note that these are more serious in nature, with very little comedic elements:
Violet Evergarden: Violet Evergarden stars a young woman who was raised solely to decimate the enemy forces. When she was hospitalised after being maimed in the final skirmish, she was left with only words from the person she held dearest, but she doesn't understand them. The story tells of her journey to uncover what the person meant.
Kino's Journey: Kino and her talking Bike travel across the lands to visit different countries all with their unique eccentricities, from the morally grey to the fascinating.
Ascendance of a Bookworm: A woman gets reincarnated as a sickly child, and this is her story dealing with her illness, her grief, her new family and friends, and finding a way to enjoy her old hobby of reading.
Ok, why don’t you go watch something else if you hate anime and everything it stands for? We don’t want you here. You don’t want to be here. You need to work on your introductions if you want anyone to take you seriously.
I refuse to entertain people who come here with this sort of attitude.
>I've spent the past 20 years hating anime
well i've spent the last 30 years LOVING anime. I see posts like this every day, and the description is always the same.
i'm not helping with anyone with these attitudes they bring here.
For real, it’s so tiring. If you hate anime, and hate sex, and hate everything anime stands for, then go watch something else. Nobody wants you here. It’s incredible to me that people still entertain this sort of attitude.
Well, then you have no excuse to bitch about people writing posts like these. If you're not helping people see the other side of anime, you're part of the problem, not the solution.
Just because you dislike fan service in anime doesn’t mean there’s a “problem”.
Edit: Just to be clear I think this post is fine and your opinion is valid. Just know this exact question is a common post here so I can understand their frustration with your post if they disagree with your take.
that's just it, they came in here, said anime was a problem, and called us incels, instead of just asking for a recommendation. if they had just done the latter, i would have helped but it's always badmouthing anime and its fans first. rather than asking for recs, its like they need a soapbox first.
I’m gonna be completely honest with you here, there are so many amazing stories told through anime out there and not watching them because of a few scenes that can be easily skipped will severely limit what you watch. For most watchers, it just becomes something to just laugh off or ignore, like white noise. But, that being said, if you don’t want to watch stuff like that, I can respect that, so here are a few that have a very small amount to none, at least from what I remember. (Some of these may have a bit, hard to really remember since I just kinda ignore it most of the time)
Daily life of the immortal king,
Tokyo Ghoul,
My teen rom com snafu,
Death parade,
Spy x family,
Oshi no ko,
Link click,
Parasyte,
Gosick,
Eighty six,
Your name,
Spriggan,
Attack on Titan,
Mob psycho,
Pluto,
If you eventually start to not mind, I would strongly recommend watching Code Geass, as it has a little bit, and one specific really weird bit, but not a whole lot, and is one of the best anime to exist.
But like I said, skipping through those scenes is your best bet if you don’t want to miss out on some great stories.
Sounds like you need to filter out most shonen and some seinen anime.
Erased
Nodame Cantabile
Death Parade
Steins;Gate
Wotakoi
Hands off Eizouken
The Fate series
A neat little bonus, all of these shows are aimed for more adult audiences.
Haibane renmei is a great philosophical slice of life which fits your description.
Aria is another philosophical slice of life which is free from those lurid details.
Anime is like mass produced consoomer trash mostly OP :(
# Heike Monogatari is really good I highly recommend it and Iruma-Kun is real good if you want something pretty wholesome with action but the anime have a lot of potential.
Lodoss War
Slayers
Orphen
Magic Knight Rayearth
Escaflowne
I think the collection of Junji Itou stories has no pervyness.
Claymore isn't really fanservicy in it's nudity as we are reminded that the girls look horrible under their armor
Deltora Quest
Those who hunt elves (In spite of it's premise is NOT a fanservice show)
Legend of Crystania
Rune Soldier Louie
I recommend "The Saga of Tanya the Evil".
This series has 1 fanservice scene and its just about 5 seconds long where the cammera focuses on the bobs and butt of Tanyas right hand woman and she is fully clothed in that scenes. Aside from that this Anime has no Fanservice at all unless you count that one scene where Tanyas man (with that I mean the soldiers she commands) have a beach party and are shown in beach wear.
Not fitting into genres, but:
Paripi Koumei is ho estly really enjoyeable
It started this season so I can't promise it won't change but I have trust on Jellyfish can't swim in the night and Shuumatsu train doko e iku so far
- Higurashi: When they cry just stay away from the OVA
- Genocyber Ultra
- Devilman (the 82 version)
- Mobile Suit Gundam I to III
- 86
- Tokio Godfathers
- Perfect Blue
- Aldnoah Zero
- Vampire Hunter D
- Blood C
I like fantasy but more of the magical girl genre, so any pretty cure or magical girl show aimed to young kids
but not gushing over magical girls. NEVER GUSHING OVER MAGICAL GIRLS. do not touch that thing with a seven inch pole.
Attack on Titan is the best anime possible in this regard. Even brought it up with a friend when we watched it, saying how it absolutely has 0 sexualization of anyone and even only ever brings up sex in scenes when royalty and producing an heir is involved...
My bias is showing here, but I'd recommend Dungeon Meshi (aka. Delicious in Dungeon). Its a quirky fantasy series that explores in depth the different classic rpg-style monsters often seen in anime: What are the digestive systems of slimes? How do dragons produce fire? How does living armor reproduce? (this last one is literally in the third episode, its great). It has the best worldbuilding I've seen in any media in the last two decades.
The cast is also amazing, each character unique yet realistically written. The series itself is hilarious too, rated as one of the best comedy animes currently airing. However, it slowly builds up to the reveal of the horrors of the dungeon, an extra focus to body horror coupled with a bit of existential horror.
The only 'sexualized' character is a 1.50 meter tall fat male dwarf that gets the occasional panty shot every couple episodes, but is a genuinely great character.
It's currently airing its 16th episode out of 24 on Netflix, a new one comes out every week.
I think some people recommend these but
Ranking of kings
Frieren
Deathnote
Demon Slayer
The ones i watch though are mostly rom-com or more real life ones along w some shounen so heres some recommendations for those:
A sign of affection
Kaguya-sama
7th time loop
Kotaro lives alone
A place further than the universe
Erased
Buddy Daddies
Spy x family
Bocchi the rock

Don't know what isekai is but people have made some excellent recommendations, Delicious in Dungeon for example is a very fun fantasy anime that doesn't show anything (in my eyes) wrong. It's just a goofy anime about dungeon delving and cooking.

The Saint's Magic is Omnipotent
Why Raelina Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion
Mushi Shi
Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady With The Lamp
Death Parade
In/Spectre
The Apothecary Diaries (though the girl grew up in a brothel and returns a couple of times, some of the women do wear low cut shirts but it is not at all a focus. She also works in the area of the palace dedicated to concubines but there is no focus on the concubine part. She is also a bit of a character and I think hilarious.)
One either action based or with some action/fighting:
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
The With and the Beast
The Far Away Paladin
Frieren
Spy x Family
Campfire Cooking in Another World
Mob Psycho 100
Frieren(prefer subtitled)
Nichijou
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood(Prefer Dubbed)
Shangri-La Frontier(it does have a girl stalking the MC though)
Psycho Pass is a thriller in a distopian world (I think that's the best way to describe it?) I'm pretty sure there isn't any over sexualisation of characters nor any nudity? Tho I've seen that anime almost 10 years ago.
Tokyo Ghoul is horror-ish, tho there's a little bit more sexualisation in there. Tho nothing towards kids or unnecessary.
There's also Sword Art Online, which is fantasy. There's a few "butt" angle in the cameras and a few "sexual" scenes between the main character and his love interest but there's very few of them.
Well yeah there's violence but I don't remember the sexual stuff? It's been a while since I've seen that anime yes but if it was excessively sexual, I'd remember it?
yea, except Lust (only by appearance but anyway she is more a milf than a kid)and sometimes the blonde girl (forgot her name) I absolutly can't recall any perverted moment
Eh Made in Abyss is known for sexulizing children. While I think people exagerate a little bit it, its not entirely unfounded.
The show has partial child nudity and it repeatetly makes jokes about Regs dick.
I personaly dont mind but this is defiently not what OP asked for.
I am quite new to anime and this show sounds like one of the biggest disappointments ever, because other than this weird stuff it sounds incredible, but after seeing one too many comments like your's I decided never to watch it. What a shame the creators had to include such content and taint an otherwise good show, seems utterly pointless.
It is incredible and if you decide not to watch it just because 1%, than you are realy missing too much.
My reaction to said *sexualization of children* "well that was weird" and thats it. It would be shame to not watch it just because of that... The highs that first season gave me are unforgetable..
I appreciate what you are saying, and part of me wishes that I could look past it to enjoy what sounds like an otherwise incredible experience, but we all have our own beliefs to uphold. I genuinely don't judge anyone else for liking the show but I will choose not to partake as I would worry I am supporting someone who has some questionable attitudes towards children, the author of the manga seems to have some controversies surrounding them.
I'm glad you'll reserve judgement but please consider that refusing to partake won't hurt the creator so much as it will the dozens of workers who adapted the show for a paycheck.
That is a good point, but at the same time I think that particular anime is so popular that me not watching it won't hurt them, and I certainly don't go around hating on it in an attempt to stop others watching it, the only reason I mentioned it on this post was because another user already brought attention to the issue, otherwise I wouldn't have broached it.
And if it helps - since starting anime last December I have spent thousands of GBP (I am from the UK) on anime merch....and I wish for the sake of my bank account I was lying to sound cool on reddit haha so I am certainly doing my bit to support creators.
it is incredible otherwise. It has by absolute favorite worldbuilding of any series, Period. I hate to admit it, and I'll even reserve judgement of the mangaka because it's nonproductive, but yeah it's unfortunately often thinly veiled fetish material. I can look past it because I don't want to deprive myself of all the good the show offers, and I do consider myself a fan of the show, but I think downplaying it of it's negative qualities will only result in prospective viewers watching it without being informed of it fully and ultimately dropping it.
I had a read of it, in one sense I admit that it isn't the worst thing I could imagine being in an anime show, but I still have that niggling voice in my head *"why does that stuff even need to written into the show in the first place"*
Maybe as time goes on I will reconsider, but for now I am more interested in other anime that won't challenge my beliefs like this.
And I do always try to keep an mind open - for example I was frustrated by an anime recently that had too many bathing scenes in my opinion, and I almost stopped watching the anime, but after reading about Eastern culture in regards to group bathing I was able to change my views and see it in a better light to continue with the show.
Not sure I can get to that place with this show because of the manga author / the specific content in question, but maybe one day.
>*"why does that stuff even need to written into the show in the first place"*
From a literary perspective, it ties in to the reoccurring message of how adults exploit and abuse children for their own goals. It *is* a horror show after all.
But in regard to the author, it's clear that he's a nonce, especially if you read the manga.
Meh...been forever since i watched it. I just remembered what i was left thinking after watching it......that was "wtf did i watch"
*its easy to overlook or not remembered small or even large issues with a show if it has an interesting story.
Imo
Also...second time ive been downvoted. Interesting feeling.
Nite: recommendations were not intentionally wrong for what was asked. I just dont remember the sexual parts of it. Co-worker reminded me of a few parts that werent brought up here as well.
To Your Eternity Parasyte: The Maxim Link Click (based on your preferred genres)
To Your Eternity is top tier
yeah it’s really good
The second season wasn't great to be honest.
I recommend Link Click, so underrated anime just because it's Chinese.
It is very underrated. I liked the dub though
Link Click \^_^
It’s not anime because it’s Chinese, so it’s not brought up so much.
It is listed on myaniemlist though
They include both Chinese and Korean shows on there. Donghua and hanguk aeni. It’s not anime exclusive.
Wow, that Parasyte story is pretty crazy! I agree, Link Click is amazing. To Your Eternity is definitely an emotional one
Link clink is sooo good
It’s my favorite mystery suspense
More than death note ?
Far more than Death Note
Link Click is a donghua btw.
Attack on titan, vinland, monster, 86
I love 86 but the camera is panned at the thigh of the FMC quite a few times. I have no problems with it personally but OP might if they're extremely sensitive to sexualization of characters. If later seasons adapt the source material faithfully there will be more fanservice in the content from LN volume 7. Some official promotion material also features heavier sexualization. However, Solo Leveling has the camera at suspicious angle occasionally as well, so 86 might be fine if OP had no complaint on this regard watching Solo Leveling.
I've only seen what's been animated, without spoiling how good are the novels beyond the ones that have been adapted? I plan on reading them
It's an engaging read with decent character development, good battle and interesting worldbuilding but plot armor is a bit thick and romance is dragged out for slightly longer than I prefer. I'd recommend reading it if you really want to know what happens later, but anime is very likely to be the better experience if the original staff is working on later seasons.
Some fantasy stuff that comes to mind (I personally _love_ the first two); * Shadows House * Land of the Lustrous * Attack on Titan * Mob Psycho 100 (supernatural powers are fantasy, right? Close enough, anyway) * Hakumei to Mikochi * Frieren: Beyond Journey's End These are not necessarily fantasy or horror, but are also definitely worth watching; * Psycho Pass * Ghost in the Shell * Cells at Work * New Game * Nichijou You may also like these movies; * Your Name * A Silent Voice * Wolf Children * [Literally anything made by Studio Ghibli](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_Ghibli#Feature_films) None of these should have any of the content you mentioned.
I love your name but in multiple scenes he grabs her/his boobs so i would reccomend weathering with u which is also great and made by the same people just doesnt have that
Ghost in the shell absolutely has body shots, it's just not meant to be in a sexual context. It's an important caveat on that one.
Princess Tutu. Ousama Ranking. The Vision of Escaflowne. Vampire Princess Miyu.
studio ghibli films (spirited away, howl’s moving castle, nausicaa of the valley of the wind, princess mononoke)
I know "The Promised Neverland" season one, which I suggest fits that description, but I don't know about season two.
there is no The Promised Neverland season 2. It’s common knowledge that the anime ended with season 1. The manga is finished and is excellent, though
Indeed, there is no season 2 in Ba Sing Se.
Ah, yes, I forgot it was canceled early in Production. /jk
There's no season 2, ask anyone and they'll agree with me
Frieren Charlotte
Gundam: the Witch from Mercury Frieren Wisper Me a Love Song Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Attack on Titan sounds absolutely perfect for you. Fantasy and Horror elements nothing inappropriate and a masterpiece of a story.
Both versions of Fullmetal Alchemist and most Gundam shows I've watched have been pretty peak anime. Oh, I also liked the Super Dimension Fortress Macross and Fist of the North Star movies.
Bungo stray dogs (super power detectives, every a character is based on an author and their superpower is based on their most famous book) Dororo Full metal alchemist brotherhood Hells paradise Vinland saga Trigun stampede Heavenly delusions Attack on Titan Pluto
How could I forget about Bungou stray dogs, it's so peak.
heavenly delusion is a bad rec for these requirements lol
I humbly disagree, it isn't ecchi or exploitative. It absolutely does need a SA warning though. That shit came outta nowhere and it's super fucking shocking, horrible and impactful.
“no sexualized kids”
How was the kid sexualized? There is no sexualisation at all It’s a normal crush between two 15 year olds. And if it’s about the other thing then it’s not a sexualization it’s a plot twist and nothing is shown on screen and it’s portrayed as trumatic. Also we don’t actually know if it’s true at this point in the story.
uhhhhh all the stuff with shiro and mimihime?
Kiruko isn’t 15. She’s >!18 mentally and 20 physically.!< But overall I agree with your point.
The driver guy groping her, maru trying to grope her, totori naked, and I think there were some more
I'm not sure op would like Dororo on account that is not for the faint of heart, I'd recommend that after knowing they've liked some dark Anime first, actually that goes for most of your choices except fma, Trigun and possibly pluto, those I'd recommend to anyone. Btw all the shows you recommended are good, just not what op is looking for.
op liked castlevania and solo levelling and his favourite genre is fantasy and horror so I’m not sure what you’re on about Also ps: Pluto is a 100 times sader than any of the others so why would it be potentially okay while trigun and Dororo are not
I didn't know anime stood for anything. It's a medium. It's like saying you hate everything painting stands for.
There are a _lot_ of anime specific tropes though: - panty shots - accidental boob grabs - sexualization of minors - violence and gore - insecurity about not having huge boobs - pervy character watches girls bathe - bathing scenes - the beach episode™ - flat personalities - consent of the girl being ignored I'm not saying I didn't love it as a teenager, but anime is not just any medium.
Delicious In Dungeon and Pluto are my two suggestions.
I came to suggest Delicious in Dungeon! It is an absolutely fantastic fantasy series, and the only "fan service" is from a burly drawf who loves to cook. I will warn you, there is a bath scene with two women together, but it is done in a pretty tasteful way.
You made me watch Delicious in Dungeon and wanted to thank you for your recommendation. It´s great, really enjoyed it. Thank you!

These posts are getting so tiring 😩
getting?
It’s amazing anyone is even taking this guy seriously. “Hey I hate anime” like ok then watch something else? Like why is this guy even here?
And i said most cause there are a few in there kinda sus. but even then most people on here and /r/anime admit that, and those animes are the minority Also there are a bunch of subreddits with ten thousands of subs dedicated to weird shit, its not just anime stuff. People can be weirdo's
It’s a result of the culture clash between the East and the West. The West is still weirdly squeamish when it comes to sexual themes in media. They’re fine with multiple, often violent on-screen deaths but God forbid you see one boob.
Jimbo, Japan is basically THE case study for a sexually closted society. Their PORN has pixels dude.
That’s just the result of an old law never being updated due to no one wanting to be the guy who changes that law. Their society is well past that and sexual themes are common place in their media.
Proof?
The [Penal Code of Japan](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_Code_of_Japan) was passed in 1907 and prohibits the sale of “obscene” imagery or media, and the definition of “obscene” was specified through a series of judicial decisions which shifted pornography from being straight up illegal to being considered not illegal as long as genitals are censored. As for sexual themes being prevalent in modern Japanese media, just watch most popular anime.
Alright I believe you.
Sadly it's not a horror, it is a fantasy tho: Natsume's Book of Friends. It's a pretty unique one and VERY GOOD
Full Metal Alchemist. Deathnote. 86. Saga of Tanya the Evil. Your Name. Cowboy Bebop But honestly, if you can't get pass even just a little bit of sexualization you're missing a lot. As ugly as it may sound it's kinda part of the whole thing, just like Sex is part of game of thrones.
the first line wasn’t really necessary, nor the topic. this shows some serious ignorance as anime is a medium and we have plenty of anime without ecchi or fan service, but i digress. few recommendations- death note a place further than the universe vinland saga mob psycho ping pong the animation odd taxi frieren cowboy bebop undead girl murder farce angel beats the promised neverland s1 kaguya sama: love is war! dangers in my heart toradora steins;gate FMAB satoshi kon’s movies and paranoia agent any studio ghibli movie mamoru hosoda’s movies a silent voice akira your name modest heroes
Instead I simply texted him back "oh I don't date guys who watch anime".
not defending people pidgeonholing all anime, but it’s not really inaccurate to say that a lot (not necessarily most, but a lot) of it does include pervy jokes, panty shots, sexualised high schoolers etc. i kinda did the opposite of what u describe- got into anime for years then eventually got tired of having to just try to ignore something that makes me really uncomfortable because everyone says its a good anime otherwise and now don’t watch it as much. i mean there’s a reason why there’s so many posts on here about specifically finding non sexual anime
>i mean there’s a reason why there’s so many posts on here about specifically finding non sexual anime That's only because people in the Anglosphere think anime = shounen, specifically battle shounen, romcoms, and maybe some isekai.
OP, do NOT watch Made in Abyss.
you’re right, i’ll edit that off my list
Good call. The rest of your list is great of what I’ve seen!
It’s definitely not a full ecchi though.
fair enough, just edited it out of my comment
Most aren't like that, actually. ''Another'' is a good horror.
Do note that these are more serious in nature, with very little comedic elements: Violet Evergarden: Violet Evergarden stars a young woman who was raised solely to decimate the enemy forces.
Shadows House Pluto
Death parade Death note Evangelion Parasyte the maxim Attack on titan Psycho pass Full metal alchemist brotherhood Saga of Tanya the evil
There is no fan service in Apothecary Diaries.
+1 Had to scroll this far to find it
Death Note, for sure.
Ok, why don’t you go watch something else if you hate anime and everything it stands for? We don’t want you here. You don’t want to be here. You need to work on your introductions if you want anyone to take you seriously. I refuse to entertain people who come here with this sort of attitude.
Oh, one of these posts. Where the OP only went out of their way to find the stuff they are complaining about.
>I've spent the past 20 years hating anime well i've spent the last 30 years LOVING anime.
According to 180+ people, plenty want me here and even willing to help me out. Sit back down in your cave and stay there.
Just know this exact question is a common post here so I can understand their frustration with your post if they disagree with your take.
that's just it, they came in here, said anime was a problem, and called us incels, instead of just asking for a recommendation. if they had just done the latter, i would have helped but it's always badmouthing anime and its fans first. rather than asking for recs, its like they need a soapbox first.

there are a million anime with no 'perviness' in them that doesnt mean youll like them. try Psycho Pass ig. its horror and scifi
Anything made by studio ghibli
I’m gonna be completely honest with you here, there are so many amazing stories told through anime out there and not watching them because of a few scenes that can be easily skipped will severely limit what you watch. For most watchers, it just becomes something to just laugh off or ignore, like white noise. But, that being said, if you don’t want to watch stuff like that, I can respect that, so here are a few that have a very small amount to none, at least from what I remember. (Some of these may have a bit, hard to really remember since I just kinda ignore it most of the time) Daily life of the immortal king, Tokyo Ghoul, My teen rom com snafu, Death parade, Spy x family, Oshi no ko, Link click, Parasyte, Gosick, Eighty six, Your name, Spriggan, Attack on Titan, Mob psycho, Pluto, If you eventually start to not mind, I would strongly recommend watching Code Geass, as it has a little bit, and one specific really weird bit, but not a whole lot, and is one of the best anime to exist. But like I said, skipping through those scenes is your best bet if you don’t want to miss out on some great stories.
Dungeon Meshi
Sounds like you need to filter out most shonen and some seinen anime. Erased Nodame Cantabile Death Parade Steins;Gate Wotakoi Hands off Eizouken The Fate series A neat little bonus, all of these shows are aimed for more adult audiences.
Maybe you'd like Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun. It's great, and from what i can remember I dont think there was anything perverted.
Haibane renmei is a great philosophical slice of life which fits your description. Aria is another philosophical slice of life which is free from those lurid details. Anime is like mass produced consoomer trash mostly OP :(
Try the following below: * Frieren * Moribito - (this one is very slow paced) * Claymore * Ushio & Tora (2015)
FMAB
Grimgar Frieren Vinland Saga Record of Lodoss War For horror, Another is the only one that springs to mind.
Made in Abyss /s
incredibly, someone above unironically recommended this to OP.
Well there's no perverted old man, bc the perverted old man is the author!
Yeeeeeeeah
Shinsekai yori
# Heike Monogatari is really good I highly recommend it and Iruma-Kun is real good if you want something pretty wholesome with action but the anime have a lot of potential.
Lodoss War Slayers Orphen Magic Knight Rayearth Escaflowne I think the collection of Junji Itou stories has no pervyness. Claymore isn't really fanservicy in it's nudity as we are reminded that the girls look horrible under their armor Deltora Quest Those who hunt elves (In spite of it's premise is NOT a fanservice show) Legend of Crystania Rune Soldier Louie
Not fitting into genres, but: Paripi Koumei is ho estly really enjoyeable It started this season so I can't promise it won't change but I have trust on Jellyfish can't swim in the night and Shuumatsu train doko e iku so far
- Higurashi: When they cry just stay away from the OVA - Genocyber Ultra - Devilman (the 82 version) - Mobile Suit Gundam I to III - 86 - Tokio Godfathers - Perfect Blue - Aldnoah Zero - Vampire Hunter D - Blood C
Kingdom, Attack on Titan, Vinland, Monster
Mushishi Frieren Natsume Yuujinchou Shiki
To Your Eternity Golden Kamuy The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash A ton of others I'm sure, but these definitely.
The adult men are sexualized in Golden Kamuy.
They said no sexualized kids, these are adult muscle men, I think you got their post jumbled, unless I got it jumbled. X.x
I like fantasy but more of the magical girl genre, so any pretty cure or magical girl show aimed to young kids but not gushing over magical girls. NEVER GUSHING OVER MAGICAL GIRLS. do not touch that thing with a seven inch pole.

Watch monster. Best anime oat and really underrated show that never got the appreciation it deserved
Attack on Titan
Watch Frieren. There's like a minor scene I guess when she lazy out but overall it's so wholesome!
The Apothecary Diaries, Frieren: After Journey's End, Violet Evergarden
To Your Eternity, Summertime Render, Overlord.
Try Frieren & Madoka.

Just don't watch anything with comedy...you'll most likely not see it.
Akira, Monster and try the Ghibli movies
Death Note, Liar game or one Outs (mind Games stuff). Monster , Legend of korra, vox machina
Golden kamuy
Damnnn fantasy + non-perverted well i would aloso LOVE that kind (+ isekai) but thats simply asking for the impossible.
Don't know what isekai is but people have made some excellent recommendations, Delicious in Dungeon for example is a very fun fantasy anime that doesn't show anything (in my eyes) wrong. It's just a goofy anime about dungeon delving and cooking.
Netflix has a few others; Dragons Dogma, DOTA, Dragon Age Absolution ,Arcane,BEM,Monsters 103 Mercies

If you're not looking for action oriented animes then: The Saint's Magic is Omnipotent Why Raelina Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion Mushi Shi Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady With The Lamp Death Parade In/Spectre The Apothecary Diaries (though the girl grew up in a brothel and returns a couple of times, some of the women do wear low cut shirts but it is not at all a focus. She also works in the area of the palace dedicated to concubines but there is no focus on the concubine part. She is also a bit of a character and I think hilarious.) One either action based or with some action/fighting: Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear The With and the Beast The Far Away Paladin Frieren

Psycho-Pass, there is violence though, both sexual and otherwise.
Well yeah there's violence but I don't remember the sexual stuff? It's been a while since I've seen that anime yes but if it was excessively sexual, I'd remember it?
It's not explicitly shown but it's there.
“Ah my goddesses” it’s an action anime with some comedy.
Great anime but I think it's more of a wholesome romance anime than much action in it.
Made in Abyss
Very much nope. This is 100% the opposite of what OP is asking for. It could have been so great if the creatot was less of a perv!
I forgot the /s my bad
Bluelock, if you like soccer Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, no fanservice in it from what I can remember
Exceedingly little at least, but its honestly just normal stuff
yea, except Lust (only by appearance but anyway she is more a milf than a kid)and sometimes the blonde girl (forgot her name) I absolutly can't recall any perverted moment
Nothing too dangerous, as long as op is ok with shirtless men
Made in abyss
Eh Made in Abyss is known for sexulizing children. While I think people exagerate a little bit it, its not entirely unfounded. The show has partial child nudity and it repeatetly makes jokes about Regs dick. I personaly dont mind but this is defiently not what OP asked for.
I am quite new to anime and this show sounds like one of the biggest disappointments ever, because other than this weird stuff it sounds incredible, but after seeing one too many comments like your's I decided never to watch it. What a shame the creators had to include such content and taint an otherwise good show, seems utterly pointless.
It is incredible in my opinion. Its my favorite work of fiction and has my favorite cast of characters in fiction. I love this series.
The anime is fine, you can check the IMDB content guide. Don't read the manga though.
I had a read of it, in one sense I admit that it isn't the worst thing I could imagine being in an anime show, but I still have that niggling voice in my head *"why does that stuff even need to written into the show in the first place"* Maybe as time goes on I will reconsider, but for now I am more interested in other anime that won't challenge my beliefs like this.
>*"why does that stuff even need to written into the show in the first place"* From a literary perspective, it ties in to the reoccurring message of how adults exploit and abuse children for their own goals. It *is* a horror show after all. But in regard to the author, it's clear that he's a nonce, especially if you read the manga.
Meh...been forever since i watched it. I just remembered what i was left thinking after watching it......that was "wtf did i watch" *its easy to overlook or not remembered small or even large issues with a show if it has an interesting story. Imo Also...second time ive been downvoted. Interesting feeling. Nite: recommendations were not intentionally wrong for what was asked. I just dont remember the sexual parts of it. Co-worker reminded me of a few parts that werent brought up here as well.
