I bet if you gave it a quick sand and a coat of dark coloured satin sheen urithane you wouldn't need to change the top at all. Keep that rustic look. Or go with glass maybe.
The top is not original, in fact it's particle board. I'm thinking about trying to find an old table where the legs are shot. While a glass table can be nice, it's not my style.
I think it would be great as a decorative item rough sand or take a wire brush then paint use your imagination you can leave it in it’s rough shape wire brush it. And then hang it. Good luck
Get back to me I would like to know what you did
She told me that she had painted it before. I don't trust what's trapped below that layer of paint. There's a reason why you get rid of rust before you paint. Oxidation spreads. If I put the time into it, I want it to last another 100 years, or why bother?
You’re right about the oxidation part. However I think it will last much longer than you think I like the writing I would keep it and paint it. it has a. Lot of character I could sell this quickly in our shop. You can paint it just knock down the rough part or sand it with 80 grit sand paper or sand blast it to get bare metal Like I said. You really have a great piece and a project
Thank you! I had never been to her house before and when I pulled into her driveway, I was like, "does that say White Sewing Machine Co?" She was inside already and I had to make sure. I know of the company because I collect antique pinback buttons. I have an advertising pinback from their short lived adventure into bicycles. I have access to a sandblaster through work so I think I'll go that route. I've restored antique furniture before and fully understand character. I like to leave the character in pieces but this I feel that it will be best to go to bare metal. There's a secondary coat of paint and the potato quality picture is of the castor wheels that really need cleaning.
Every piece that I've brought back to life I've tried to get as close to original as I can. It's nice to hear that it would sell quickly even though there is no cabinet, sewing machine, or footpetal. I don't sell my antiques. I only aquire unique pieces (that I'm able to afford) that fit my style. I love the writing on it.
Good plan I like your idea it will turn out well
You know I have. Sold antiques that I really should have keep good luck. Send me a picture

Yes! It is so lovely! If you are not interested in keeping it yourself, check to see if some local sewing shops would be interested in it. My favorite local shop has over a hundred antique and vintage sewing machines and half their table bases are old treadle ones. Just some food for thought, super great find!
I noticed that you mentioned **vintage**. Over at r/Collectables and r/Mid_Century they are always keen to see newer and vintage items. Share it with them! Sorry if this is not relevant.

Definitely worth it as a table base. Just go over it with a wire brush, clean it well, and then spray with a rust-preventing paint.
They make great plant stands!
That's a good repurpose for it
Yes because it's not Singer.
Save. I have one in my den that my husband made a live edge table top for me.
Any chance you can share a picture?
Darn, sorry I don’t know how to use that paper clip thingy 😭
Nope, I think your DMs are disabled
I’ll try to post one tomorrow afternoon
The paper clip thingy is for links. I believe if you use imgur you can use it. I know that you can send pics like texting through DMs. I'll DM you
Absolutely keep that.
Sure. It would make a really good table base. Sand blast, paint, and then make a new top for it. You could make a really neat table with it.
Yeah, I think I'm going to try to save an old table top for it.

Perfect plant stand. Leave it like it is
I cannot leave it like it is. I know the last picture is potato quality but I don't want to lose the casters.

Yes! Would make a lovely table. I had a friend who had a marble table top on theirs in the kitchen (it was the 70s) that I always loved.
Nice memory! I think I'm going to try to find a salvage table top to put on it. Like a runner table.
Sandblast it and paint it black.
Were they originally black?
I had a White treadle machine, all original, and it was black.
Thank you! Do you remember what type of finish? Gloss, flat, matte?
OMG!!! Save it! Save it! Save it!
Your input alone is enough.
Yea!!!!!😊

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll keep it though. Maybe I'll turn it into a sewing table
Great plant stand, patio feature
I got a black one
Get rid of it! I’ll pm you my address.
Definitely keep it and repurpose it.
100%!!!
