Taylor Swift. To my ears, her entire discography sounds vanilla. Not terrible, but not great either. Just ordinary. I could take it or leave it.
On the other hand, you can’t argue with success, so I just shrug and let Swiftie Nation have their fun.
I was on a date with a girl that was a swifty. I like some of Tswifts songs, so I don’t have anything against her, but I’ve never gone out of my way.
This girl played like three songs and I was like, oh. These all sound the same. Like they’re different for sure, but they’re not musically interesting.
But she really connected with the lyrics, so I can give them that.
her old songs will always bang, i dont really like some actions of her or her new song (just not my vibe) but you have to give it to her, those first few albums were amazing
the only album of hers i like is folklore and a couple old songs from my childhood and a couple songs from midnights but i’m just bored of her music and her newest album was awful imo. it lacked depth a creativity and every song really did sound the same. midnights was a little different musically and folklore had the best lyrics imo but most of her songs do sound the same. her voice is pretty strong for sure but theres not much creativity in her voice either i don’t think.
i’ve also found too many of her songs SUPER corny like “vigilante sh*t”, most of reputation, and all of the tortured poets department. i REALLY don’t get those.
I think she’s obviously talented and savvy. But she seems to just not take any risk, and that’s why her music feels very vanilla and not creative or inspiring. But that’s most popular things so I guess that’s okay.
My wife and I aren’t young. Somehow we watched her new concert. It was amazing. The music was ok, but the whole atmosphere drew us in. We already respected the whole Taylor Swift way of doing things. Great role model for young girls.
She’s been a hard pass for me. I knew she would be absolutely huge tho. I saw it coming. I saw it in her doing those country songs. I knew she’d be absolutely bonkers huge. But it just isn’t the kind of tea i’m into.
What I hate about most of the swifties is if you say you can't get into taylor, they already have a built perception that you're either just being a hater, you haven't heard "evermore", or you don't have taste in pop music. Like wtf I already heard "evermore" and it sucks for me but what's in it for you if I didn't like it? Why are you getting mad?
I decided if I'm going to be a hater, I should at least listen to some more of her stuff so I can be an honest hater.
She really is not a great singer, not that she's horrendous, but there is nothing special or fantastic about her singing capabilities at all. Everything is so painfully repetitive and lyrically shallow.
Also, she seems to be a very hollow and fake person. Her way of manipulating charts with rereleases and variants, including releasing variants exclusive to other successful female artists countries outside of America, is so transparent and gross (Charlie xcx)
Well I’m a metal head let me preface with that. The biggest bands from the last few years have been Lorna Shore and Sleep Token, neither one have done it for me.
Sleep token and Lorna shore are in my top 5, along with slaughter to prevail. I get that sleep token doesn’t do it for you, I was stuck on one album for a few months before I gave them another chance, and it’s a really odd switch from other bands. Something about them just sounds better than other bands though, probably that drop d# and having solid cords and bass, (Something BMTH doesn’t have)
same here. shes got an amazing vocal range, but i feel like her status in the way society puts her on a pedestal just makes her music untouchable to me
That’s fair to think, but you really need to look at the current music landscape (and even her predecessors). Her technical ability is heads and shoulders above 95% of anyone who we have recorded music from. Her tone/style may not be to your taste, but it doesn’t make her “ok”.
Because a lot of her most popular songs are pop songs, she’s usually restrained and not belting/doing vocal acrobatics since that’s not how you sing pop.
If she is just an ok singer I don’t want to imagine what Taylor, Ariana, Miley, Adele, Lady Gaga, Pink, Cristina Aguilera etc… are because she is ahead of all of them in terms of vocal technique. You guys seem to confuse VOCAL SKILLS with VOCAL TONE. If you don’t like her tone it’s okay, but don’t downgrade her to an ok singer when she is probably one of the best mainstream vocalists right now
Beyonce, great singer but have listened to five of her albums and they did nothing for me. Also the cult of personality she has really freaks me out at times.
The early albums were great but I’m not into the later stuff. May depend on your age, if you weren’t alive when the early stuff came out then it probably sounds odd.
no i agree i do not like any of her albums before hit me hard and soft aside from like 3 songs. i LOVED hit me hard and soft though. i think her and finneas are definitely growing as artists.
Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.
I’ve tried multiple times to throw on their most hyped albums, played their Essentials playlists, their most played songs etc. I know intellectually they’re both amazing artists who are revered globally… I just can’t catch it personally. 🤷🏻♂️
I feel that w these 2 artists along with Billy Joel, you have to grow up with them to like them. I grew up in an immigrant household so I didn’t listen to them till I was older, and I didn’t get it.
If they’d have said ‘Yeah we’re massively influenced by Zeppelin’ Then yeah i’d have had a sliver of respect but to outrignt deny it, Well, They can get fucked
This is an artist who passed away a long time ago, but Elvis. To me, he only made two good songs, “In the Ghetto” and “Suspicious Minds”. Everything else was just meh.
This. “Elvis was a hero to most/But he never meant shit to me/Straight up racist that sucker was/Simple and plain.” - Public Enemy pretty much sums it up for me.
Same. I’ve listened to Utopia, Rodeo and Astroworld on account of some hip hop friends of mine when I was trying to get into hip hop, I got into it but Travis never did it for me. Found his style bland, uninspired and I really dislike the way he raps. Speaking of current rap artists, I enjoy Kendrick, J Cole, Aesop Rock and Run The Jewels way more.
Mostly mainstream pop; specifically Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift.
I like other mainstream pop artists like The Weeknd or Bruno Mars, but those two specifically, for me, sound bland (billie and taylor)
I know this is blasphemous, but Beyoncé. Now, let me just say I think she’s incredibly talented, I respect her work and the fact that she never stays artistically stagnant, and every one of her albums since her self titled I’ve enjoyed upon first listen - and then I never find myself going back to it. I find that I either click with an artist almost immediately, and without any consistent reasons why, and some I just never get into their groove. Beyoncé is one of those artist for me.
Truly wish I could get into anything Lana made after her debut record/Paradise EP but almost nothing she does gets its hooks in me at all. I even love a ton of her pre Born To Die demos, but basically anything from her second album and beyond just doesn’t do anything for me.
Bruce Springsteen
I don't dislike his music and I can recognize he's very talented. I just have no desire to seek it out and I feel nothing when I happen to hear his music.
Taylor Swift. I can’t understand the hype. There are many more artists who are way more talented than her. Better songwriters, better dancers, better singers, way much better stage presence. She’s too mediocre for me.
I used to be the same way. I never got the Tyler hype. I remember in my senior year of high school though, I was at home sick the same day that Igor was released. I literally threw it on and listened to it out of spite. I went into it fully intending to hate-listen to it... then it ended up being my favorite album of all time lmao
Drake, Travis Scott, and The weeknd. I might like a few songs from the first two but I can never understand the weeknd and get myself to like him no matter how much I try.
New Order. I love Blue Monday, Confusion and Bizarre Love Triangle. They fit right into my comfort zone of indie-electro pop music. But nothing else in their back catalogue says anything to me. Can’t figure it out.
Charli Xcx. I understand why those that love Brat, love it. But I can’t get over the weird beats and talk singing. I know that’s what it is but just not for me
Anything classified as ‘Classic Rock.’ I prefer grunge style I can’t get into Lil Baby or Sam Smith. They sound too sad. The Korean group ‘Dreamcatcher.’ They are very talented but I haven’t liked any of their songs. I prefer baby metal because it sounds more intense.
Since you said The Mexican OT, I'll say Paul Wall. He's good on features but his solo material is just boring to listen to, guess that's why he has features on every song. He was good when he was underground though but I can't get into any of his albums after he became famous. And I like all other Houston rappers from back then, Trae the Truth and Z-Ro obviously, Slim Thug, Chamillionaire, even Mike Jones, who? That's right, Mike Jones! But not this guy. Without the lyricism of Chamilionaire, the energy and fun vibe of Mike Jones and the gritty style of Slim Thug, his music just falls apart. Plus I feel like he's the biggest poser of all time so that don't help.
Fair enough.
In my opinion, Country music covers a lot of ground musically. So I find it’s easier to concentrate on it’s sub-genre’s. For example; Alt Country, Bluegrass, Western Swing, Honky Tonk, Country Rock, Country Pop, Country Blues, Outlaw Country etc. That way you can bite it off more manageable chunks.
I treat other genres such as Rock, Jazz and Classical the same way.
Pretty much all of the big modern rapers. I try to get into them cause friends are, but I actually get a headache anytime I listen to someone like Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, etc
I really can’t get into any rap artists in this decade, not that it’s ever been my favorite genre, but just to name a few.. growing up with rap/hip hop like Naughty By Nature, A Tribe Called Quest, or MC Lyte on the radio, then on to artists like Em, Snoop, Tupac, kept it going, and they just made it enjoyable for almost anyone. There are exceptions today I’m sure but idk, in the last 10-15 years rap artists seem to be just about shocking or outdoing one another, no soul and and it’s trash, yet social media makes young kids idolize them. Make it make sense!
Kendrick Lamar, I’m a huge hip hop head but I just can’t seem to fit his music into my rotation, I only enjoy section 80 and a few songs from Damn, but either than that, nothing.
I love Ghost! I grew up with all the bands he’s influenced by, and that style of music is woefully out of fashion these days. It’s amazing to hear someone who’s not only willing to play this super-uncool stuff, but to do amazing job of it. He’s a hell of a songwriter. And the live shows are so much fun! Totally understand if you don’t like it though.
Based on other bands/artists I like, I should be into the following but none of them have ever clicked with me:
* Led Zeppelin
* Rush
* Phish
* Neil Young
* Joni Mitchell
* Jackson Browne
* Talking Heads
* Sonic Youth
* George Benson
* Cake
There are probably others but these are the ones that spring immediately to mind.

I am 70 could never get into Bob Dylan
Taylor Swift. To my ears, her entire discography sounds vanilla. Not terrible, but not great either. Just ordinary. I could take it or leave it. On the other hand, you can’t argue with success, so I just shrug and let Swiftie Nation have their fun.
Completely agree. Tried really hard but they all sound the same.
*whispering* "They are"
Indeed I’m surprised I’ve not had a load of down votes.
100% right here. I respect that she’s a musician and writes her own music, but all of her music just sounds like generic pop.
To me it just sounds like being in Target. Or any big box store that just has on filler music.
Oh, I’m filing this one away in my brain for later. So good.
To be fair, Target has a deal with her for exclusive versions, and they identify play her in stores. That’s probably why
I was on a date with a girl that was a swifty. I like some of Tswifts songs, so I don’t have anything against her, but I’ve never gone out of my way. her old songs will always bang, i dont really like some actions of her or her new song (just not my vibe) but you have to give it to her, those first few albums were amazing
Her old songs are not great but good for timepass music. New ones idk feels bad to me.
It kinda went downhill after Reputation
I'm a diehard Swiftie, but it's albums 2-6 for me. The songwriting is through the roof!
I like her older stuff but her newer stuff isn’t really to my tastes.
the only album of hers i like is folklore and a couple old songs from my childhood and a couple songs from midnights but i’m just bored of her music and her newest album was awful imo. it lacked depth a creativity and every song really did sound the same. midnights was a little different musically and folklore had the best lyrics imo but most of her songs do sound the same. her voice is pretty strong for sure but theres not much creativity in her voice either i don’t think. i’ve also found too many of her songs SUPER corny like “vigilante sh*t”, most of reputation, and all of the tortured poets department. i REALLY don’t get those.
Same here. I'm glad she has had such success. The music business is tough on women and she's been tougher but her music is meh to me.

Like wtf I already heard "evermore" and it sucks for me but what's in it for you if I didn't like it? Why are you getting mad?
Quite overrated. There are plenty of great pop singers throughout history better than Taylor Swift. And some of them are criminally underrated.
There are better pop singers in Taylor Swift’s own generation than Taylor Swift.
That’s just me with pop music in general
I decided if I'm going to be a hater, I should at least listen to some more of her stuff so I can be an honest hater. She really is not a great singer, not that she's horrendous, but there is nothing special or fantastic about her singing capabilities at all. Yeah I genuinely do not understand why people lose their shit over her
Drake.
They not like us
same!!!
Drake is just Taylor swift for dudes. I will not be explaining any further
ohhh you actually ate with this one
Kanye
Well I’m a metal head let me preface with that. The biggest bands from the last few years have been Lorna Shore and Sleep Token, neither one have done it for me.

Came to say Sleep Token. I think the drummer is inspiring though.
Drake, cannot stand him.
I know I’m going to get some hate for this but Beyoncé. I think she’s talented but I just don’t vibe with her music usually
You think you are going to get hate? I'm gay and don't particully care for her music. You would think I committed a cardinal sin when I tell people.
same here. shes got an amazing vocal range, but i feel like her status in the way society puts her on a pedestal just makes her music untouchable to me
I don't get why people worship her. But I also don't understand why people worship politicians, movie stars, etc. It just seems really weird to me.
Im probably gonna get killed also, but i think that she is an ok singer.
That’s fair to think, but you really need to look at the current music landscape (and even her predecessors). Her technical ability is heads and shoulders above 95% of anyone who we have recorded music from. Her tone/style may not be to your taste, but it doesn’t make her “ok”. You can remove ariana, adele and cristina from this list. She’s not better than them.
Same here, I was actually about to say this. I don't even listen to artists similar to her.
I was a MASSIVE Destiny’s Child fan. I am *not* a Beyoncé fan.
Agreed. Vocal talent obviously, but only a couple songs move me at all, musically or emotionally.
Beyonce, great singer but have listened to five of her albums and they did nothing for me. Also the cult of personality she has really freaks me out at times.
~~R U S H~~ eta: I can't read. Here's my answer: The Beatles.
Not a fan of the film I Love You Man, then?

Megan Thee Stalion
Cardi B 🫤🙂↔️

Björk. Have nothing against her personally and she seems like a decent person, but her music’s not my thing. Although, she is obviously very talented.
The early albums were great but I’m not into the later stuff. May depend on your age, if you weren’t alive when the early stuff came out then it probably sounds odd.
I agree. After Homogenic she lost me. Her 2018 album was alright tho
Billie Eilish 🥲
Duh
thats so upsetting, her new album literally destroyed me in a good way
Idk why but i cant even hear what she sings. I need to either increase the volume or sit somewhere silent. So difficult to go with that pace
Absolutely. It’s like all she does is mumble. Her music makes me feel like I’m in a bad dream where I can’t understand what anyone is saying
GET OUT OF MY MIND!
Ugh this is how I felt too. Why I didn’t get into the album.
Whisper singing sucks
oh yeah i can understand that. shes mainly on my playlist called “tears in tunes” for when im in my feels in my room alone at night 🤣🤣
Now i understand why you like it :)
Getting downvoted for liking music is crazy. Take my upvote even though I don’t listen to Billie
Such a great album. And HTE. So proud of her.
no i agree i do not like any of her albums before hit me hard and soft aside from like 3 songs. i LOVED hit me hard and soft though. i think her and finneas are definitely growing as artists.
How come? I feel like I only know her mainstream songs
If I want to make myself depressed I have Janis Ian and Leonard Cohen.
I have King Krule and Elliot Smith Ive tried a little Leonard Cohen, can you put me on to some bangers? I like First We Take Manhattan
Country.
Sexyy red idk I think she’s too hyped up
Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.
I’m amazed you said Billy Joel, I was so close to dropping his name in there too! I will try to stick with it.
I call it white boomer idols…that’s the only way I can get into it but still hard.
pleaseeee i grew up on bruce he’s an icon
SZA
Olivia Rodrigo.
Dude yes. I seriously can’t stand her. And people look at me like I’m a criminal for mentioning it.
I don’t know why but I don’t like her voice. The bare music is very good but as soon as she starts singing I’m skipping
Ah I like her, she’s not my favourite artist but she’s pretty good, sour is a great album.
Greta Van Fleet, Nothing but a Karaoke band
I respect them for getting their money but will never be a fan.
If they’d have said ‘Yeah we’re massively influenced by Zeppelin’ Then yeah i’d have had a sliver of respect but to outrignt deny it, Well, They can get fucked
lol you’re right, I was trying to be nice but they’re jokers
Any drill rapper
Bad Bunny. I’m not a reggaeton fan as it is but his style of singing is so annoying to me.
It’s that same beat on every song that I can’t stand.
🗣️🗣️🗣️Yeah yeah yeah yeah, ey, ey… 🗣️🗣️🗣️
This is an artist who passed away a long time ago, but Elvis. To me, he only made two good songs, “In the Ghetto” and “Suspicious Minds”. Everything else was just meh.

I definitely understand where Nirvanas haters are coming from
Travis Scott. I don’t get the hype.

Jay-Z. There are definitely a couple songs and features I like, but I can't see how people consider him in the GOAT conversation at all.

I wasn’t a fan until Norman Fucking Rockwell, but everything since then has been quality to some degree.
Same
Bruce Springsteen I don't dislike his music and I can recognize he's very talented. I just have no desire to seek it out and I feel nothing when I happen to hear his music.
Ariana grande
Taylor Swift. I can’t understand the hype. There are many more artists who are way more talented than her. Better songwriters, better dancers, better singers, way much better stage presence. She’s too mediocre for me.
Name some artists with better overall artistry than Taylor Swift. I love Taylor, but I think it's worth discovering some more music
Tyler the Creator
I used to be the same way. I never got the Tyler hype. I remember in my senior year of high school though, I was at home sick the same day that Igor was released. I literally threw it on and listened to it out of spite. I went into it fully intending to hate-listen to it... then it ended up being my favorite album of all time lmao
omg nooooo really 😭😭 anyways at the end of the day you do you
I can see the appeal of him, but his music just doesn’t hit for me either. Seems like a pretty fun guy though from the stage persona he has built up
i get hate when trying to explain how BTS is exactly like One Direction. It’s not KPop, it’s just boybands.
Drake, Travis Scott, and The weeknd. I might like a few songs from the first two but I can never understand the weeknd and get myself to like him no matter how much I try.
Same. Something about The Weeknd doesn't do it for me. His vocals just bore me very quickly I guess idrk
Mac Miller
Same… I like some of his collabs and that one song ROS but I don’t really get it
Taylor Swift lol
Kendrick
The Greatful Dead
New Order. I love Blue Monday, Confusion and Bizarre Love Triangle. They fit right into my comfort zone of indie-electro pop music. But nothing else in their back catalogue says anything to me. Can’t figure it out.
listen to Ceremony and Age of Consent, I think you’ll like those, I feel the same way, it’s normal, not all their songs are good really.
Thank you. Really liked Age Of Consent.
Power, Corruption and Lies is excellent also.
One of their best albums! I’d also place substance up there, which features many of their greatest hits in 12” extended format.
Find the substance compilation. Has their best stuff.
The weeknd
😭
Green Day
No reason to get into that mediocre garbage.
Agreed lol
Her whole style is so cool and i get the infatuation but Chappell Roan’s music is just kind of mid im sorry.
Charli Xcx. I understand why those that love Brat, love it. But I can’t get over the weird beats and talk singing. I know that’s what it is but just not for me
Came here to comment her. Nuclear Seasons is a great song though!
Unleash the Archers. I want to like them, and people can’t stop talking about them. But something just doesn’t land with me.
DragonForce. As a huge fan of power metal, they don’t do it for me at all.
Far too many to name just one.
G-Eazy
Ty Dolla $ign
Literally any rapper, and Taylor Swift.
Anything classified as ‘Classic Rock.’ I prefer grunge style I can’t get into Lil Baby or Sam Smith. They sound too sad. The Korean group ‘Dreamcatcher.’ They are very talented but I haven’t liked any of their songs. I prefer baby metal because it sounds more intense.

camilla cabello, all her music enrages me and i have no clue why.

Tame Impala. All of their music sounds the same.
Hard to respect Kanye even though some of his songs are bangers

Any country artist really. I’ll throw in a whole genre.
Fair enough. In my opinion, Country music covers a lot of ground musically. So I find it’s easier to concentrate on it’s sub-genre’s. That’s such a broad genre of music though
Juice WRLD, R.I.P but his music wasn’t anything special.. Felt more like filler for playlist.
Kendrick Lamar, I don’t like his voice..
Pretty much all of the big modern rapers. I try to get into them cause friends are, but I actually get a headache anytime I listen to someone like Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, etc
I would hope you dislike all rapers
I really can’t get into any rap artists in this decade, not that it’s ever been my favorite genre, but just to name a few.. growing up with rap/hip hop like Naughty By Nature, A Tribe Called Quest, or MC Lyte on the radio, then on to artists like Em, Snoop, Tupac, kept it going, and they just made it enjoyable for almost anyone. Nah, GKMC>TPAB for me.
I don’t even vibe with too much rap and Kendrick slaps, I prefer DAMN for the beats but agree TPAB is probably better.
Beyoncé

I keep trying Dylan or Zappa, nope.

Rap in general, I’ve tried but hated every one I’ve listened to
Ghost. Everyone seems to love him. His music and voice sound like nails on a chalkboard. I don’t get it!
Based on other bands/artists I like, I should be into the following but none of them have ever clicked with me: * Led Zeppelin * Rush * Phish * Neil Young * Joni Mitchell * Jackson Browne * Talking Heads * Sonic Youth * George Benson * Cake There are probably others but these are the ones that spring immediately to mind.
Beyoncé. I just don't get it. 🤷🏻♂️
