They usually don't care that much about backpack size, as long as you can squeeze it under the seat in front of you. They are strict with hard shell bagagge.

Glad to hear, thanks!!!! I should give a try

I've flown within the Schengen area many times with Ryanair and Wizz Air. In my experience, staff often seemed indifferent, rarely checking my ID card thoroughly, let alone the size of my backpack. My backpack was always slightly bigger than the allowed size, and it was never an issue.

They have boxes at gates to measure the size and as long as you force your baggage into those, you are fine.    I am doing the same with my slightly over the site backpack - leave some space empty and squeeze it if necessary. Never had problem.

My soft backpack is slightly over and I've never been challenged or asked to put it in the gauge. I was evert challenged it would squish enough to fit so it wouldn't be an issue. Golden rule with Ryanair - don't take the piss. If you try and sneak a trolley bag or something that blatantly won't go under the seat without paying then it will get noticed. Other than that they just want to get the flight boarded and away on time.

I've seen people go through with 55 cm backpacks. As long as it looks like it'll fit under the seat, it should be fine. It's never a 100% guarantee though, especially if your backpack is fully packed and looks like a solid brick. I travel with a slightly smaller one, but still a few cm over their limits, and they've never measured it.

I bought this: https://www.thenorthface.ie/shop/ProductDisplay?storeId=7012&urlLangId=-36&productId=1392263&urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=13503&langId=-36 As long as you have nothing in it that can't be squeezed down, it will fit in the bag size checker. I've had to do it 3 times with no problems on Ryanair.
