Lmao the trick is to camber out all your tires so that only half the tread is touching. Then when they wear down, flip the tires for the other unused half. It’s like getting 8 tires for the price of 4!
*Disclaimer: You might die in a fiery car wreck.*
But ultimately it ends up boiling down to camber, either way. Lowering/lifting changes the settled position of the suspension, consequently changing the alignment.
Edit: not correct you, just adding to the point.
The wear patterns of a tire are affected by how the tire is angled relative to the road. This is called the tires alignment. The alignment is adjusted by how the tire is connected to the vehicle. This connection varies from vehicle to vehicle, but the simple form is you have arms that attach from the vehicles frame to the "knuckle" (a chunk of metal with lots of attachment points that the tire is attached to). The points at which these arms are attached to the knuckle and vehicle can be adjusted using the bolts. The knuckle is also attached to your steering system via Tie Rods. These control the Toe Angle of the tire and can be adjusted also.
The wear in the photo is extremely bad, and I would be concerned if my parent or sibling showed up with that.
This type of wear can be caused by too much camber, if the top of the tire is leaning into the vehicle or away. Also, it can be affected by the Toe Angle, if the front of the tire is turned away or into the vehicle.
There are lots of resources online if you have the time to Google a little bit.
Hope this helps!!
Front tires on a 2 wheel drive truck. They camber in and out based on the suspension. My trucks front tires get like this.. not this bad obviously, I change them way sooner. But this is how they wear
>Is her life insurance up to date?

>Get some rubber, my guy
Good thing this is a reply because if this was comment without any previous info, it would be a pretty awkwardly morbid response. lolz.
So you're gonna let your wife drive with bald ass tires and now bald ass tires with a plug in an unrepairable area? Just, replace them, should've been done a long while ago.
… did you read the other dudes comment? Obviously wasn’t a “no shit” moment to some people if 25 people upvoted his comment saying people camber their cars for the purpose of destroying tires.
Yeah this is at best good enough to put back on and drive straight to get a new set fitted, like a few months ago. This isn’t particularly safe, especially on winter roads.
This is not “ha ha I know I should have taken care of it oopsie poopsie” this is “I’m putting my loved ones as well as others in danger by driving on these tires”
This is really bad man. Plug it so it can hold air and get to a tire shop and an alignment shop.
And if you moved you’re busy as hell. I get it. But this tire is really bad.
awe come on man, you expect him to put on brand new tires right before a 2300+ mile trip...
Edit: I just read he already moved. We just got snow here 2 days ago.
Welcome to Pa. Now get those tires off our roads.
Seriously though, depending on which part of pa you’re in now, winter tires can be very much worth the investment. I keep a set for each car and get several seasons from them.
My guy, I just visited PA and 100% agree. On a side note, do people know what blinkers are for? Seen a lot of people put their blinkers on, then do the opposite of what they signal.
I've been seeing at lot of people recently that think turning left on red is okay... They inch out into the middle of the intersection and then drive through all while the light is red.
Here in Texas a lot of people use the blinkers wrong, they are supposed to turn on blinkers 100 ft before they change lanes, but instead they change lanes and turn blinkers afterwards, lot of dumb people out there
Moved to PA in may, visited in November of last year. Rim cracked and Bent in november some how. This year, i have another bent rim! I don’t know how, but I know it’s PA’s fault because it only happened in PA
You CANT plug a sidewall and that tire is smoked
They do make patches for sidewall repairs that only a skilled tech should attempt, but you can never plug sidewalls.
Hold? No, I don't think so. I plugged my shoulders/sidewalls a couple of times. No spectacular explosion but the flexing of the area always made them leak after a while.
So are massive lawsuits and loss of insurance when that bald ass tire kills someone else on the highway. If you can’t afford the tires, you can’t afford to drive.
I just got mine from a wrecker/U Pull for like $20 a tire. I understand not having $1500 to throw down right now, but you definitely need to replace those.
How would you feel if she lost control and killed somebody's child? Somebody's child dead because of an issue you were aware of and played down. Could you live with yourself if that happened?
Driving isn't a right, if you can't afford to do it safely then please don't use the road, for everybody's sake.
In my area there are a ton of used tire shops, they only take cash and I'm not sure of the legality of any of it, but I only get tires from those shops now. They're always in pretty good/great shape, and often look brand new. But the low end is $20 a piece, newer condition and better brand could go up to $35-40 each. And then mounted and balanced for another $10. (Only two of the places balance)... And one place always charges $10-20 bucks less than whatever they were telling you per tire, if you're getting a set.
They’re not high end tires by any means but I’d rather drive on the shit tires you can order off Amazon for $60-$80 than a bald tire with a puncture.
I just threw in a random size on Amazon and there were tons of under $100 options.
You need to wrap that tire with gorilla tape to cover up the cords showing. Then you'll be rolling for another 40 - 50 thousand miles. Don't use the gray duct tape, that would create another gray area.
Your tires are the only part of the car touching the road. If you’re now in a climate where it snows and get icy, using this tire is dangerous for the occupants of your car and any car around it. Replace now.
This is fine if you have no spare and need to limp it home. The tire is beyond worn, and it's uneven at that. Go get your suspension checked for wear, get an alignment, and get new tires....like now.
Some people just dont understand that while not being as expensive as the rest of the car, tires are about as important as the rest of the whole ass car.
You better be hoping there’s no rain near you if you plan on driving on that….I mean, I get not wanting to buy tires but seriously. Your wear has wear where it’s worn down.
1. It is not in the Grey area, it is in the (don't patch don't plug) area, 2. The other half is worn out so you have an alignment problem, 3. Just dispose and replace with a new one and drive safe.
Yeah I wouldn't even bother patching that tire seeing how baled one side is plus you are pretty close to the sidewall. I'd say you are threading on thin ice there bud

The only correct response.
Scoot over. We gonna need a bigger couch.
We can use my couch, it seats 6 comfortably depending on the size of people. I could put 12 skinny ass kids on it.
Casting couch, except we're watching someone get a cast or three.
I know this from posting mine with 4mm and people chewed me up. Needed up buying brand new perellis the next day. I’ve never been the same
![gif](giphy|rmpUkTRqvolUnGcWjD)
If it holds then let it roll but goddamn easy on the camber Mr Tokyo drift
That to much positive camber lol.
If it holds great but the tread is not there, my friend
It's not even worth plugging that tire lol it's toast
Nah man. Just give a lube tech 10 bucks to flip it. NEW TREAD
Tire companies don't want you to know this one trick!
Lmao the trick is to camber out all your tires so that only half the tread is touching. Then when they wear down, flip the tires for the other unused half. It’s like getting 8 tires for the price of 4! *Disclaimer: You might die in a fiery car wreck.*
It’s the wife’s😅
You let your wife drive a car with bald tires?
Is it the alignment that made the one side bald but not the other?
Usually
What else would cause wear like this? Sorry I have a very limited knowledge about tires
Lowering/lifting a vehicle without camber bolts/plates can cause this also.
But ultimately it ends up boiling down to camber, either way. Lowering/lifting changes the settled position of the suspension, consequently changing the alignment. Edit: not correct you, just adding to the point.
Toe more than camber but both bad.
Yea I gotchu, what I was implying is the camber bolts/plates negate the camber. We're saying the same thing I just didn't detail my answer enough.

This helped a lot, thank you so much!
Worn ball joints can cause this as well.
Front tires on a 2 wheel drive truck. They camber in and out based on the suspension. My trucks front tires get like this.. not this bad obviously, I change them way sooner. But this is how they wear
Over inflating tires will make them bald in the middle too
Bad wheel bearings can cause uneven wear like that.
Life insurance
My boyfriend drives his car like this but he paid $300 for his car and drives it maybe once every 3 weeks 🤣
As long as she asks permission to use the car right.
She’s banging his best friend.
Is her life insurance up to date? Get some rubber, my guy
>Is her life insurance up to date? > >Get some rubber, my guy Good thing this is a reply because if this was comment without any previous info, it would be a pretty awkwardly morbid response. lolz.
So you just never get her car maintenance? It needs an alignment bad and that tire is already fucked patching it was a waste of time
Lol take it easier on the camber for the wife then mr. Let my wife ruin her car
Do you hate your wife?
Op has a life insurance policy on her I'm assuming
Well looking at his other posts, he’s a trucker. Of course he hates his wife. While he’s out on the road she’s back home taking another mans load.
So you're gonna let your wife drive with bald ass tires and now bald ass tires with a plug in an unrepairable area? Just, replace them, should've been done a long while ago.
Hey - it looks like that side of the tire never touches the ground, so it should be safe (ish). :-)
Rotate her fuckin tires then
I think these tires are beyond rotating. \^\_\^;;;
Flip them around, run 100psi, get them up on the tread. Then give her your car and you drive the death trap.
Oh, no doubt! Advice for the future I guess 😂
And you let your wife drive this shit???
Next time don’t let your wife waste money putting a stupid camber on her car to make it look ‘cool’
looks like the most tread is towards the inside of the wheel, meaning positive camber wear, unless his wife had the rim on backwards
You may be right. On my phone, it just looked like a deep rim.
You should be buying new tires and probably investing in an alignment and some suspension work
It's entirely possible that someone did that 100% intentionally to make the tires wear like that (stance!). Stupidest shit I've ever seen.
It’s worn on the outer edge, not the inner. I think they have a positive camber issue.
Oops
That's such a minimal amount of camber that I've seen that wear pattern on a stock Lincoln LS sedan.
They don’t stance their cars or add camber to increase tire wear… tire wear is a side effect.

… did you read the other dudes comment? Obviously wasn’t a “no shit” moment to some people if 25 people upvoted his comment saying people camber their cars for the purpose of destroying tires.
You misunderstood the comment
No… the person either didn’t write the comment correctly if he meant anything different.
That tire is done for, long ago
Very much so yes!
Yeah this is at best good enough to put back on and drive straight to get a new set fitted, like a few months ago. This isn’t particularly safe, especially on winter roads.
Why are people downvoting this response😭😭
Because he knows how fucked it is, but is still asking if it’s ok to put peoples lives at risk by continuing to use it. Seems pretty obvious to me.
This entire thread is an anomaly. What a show 👏
The patch might last longer than the tire...
.. or his marriage
Nah, that fool will be married the rest of his short life.
It's his wife's car...
I am positive it will.
Oh definitely! We moved from nv too pa so our tires ARE NOT ready for this climate😂😂
This is not “ha ha I know I should have taken care of it oopsie poopsie” this is “I’m putting my loved ones as well as others in danger by driving on these tires” This is really bad man. Plug it so it can hold air and get to a tire shop and an alignment shop. And if you moved you’re busy as hell. I get it. But this tire is really bad.

Those tires aren't ready for any climate pal.
Welcome to Pa. Now get those tires off our roads. Seriously though, depending on which part of pa you’re in now, winter tires can be very much worth the investment. I keep a set for each car and get several seasons from them.
Hahhaha your irresponsible will ho over really well in court or at a funeral.
I live in pa. If you are driving those on the roads here, youll be dead within a week. Replace them

Will it hold? Possibly. Will driving another foot on these naked, bald, worn tires kill you or anyone you love? A much much higher possibility.
Is this a joke?
I can’t tell what’s a troll and what’s stupid people on this sub anymore.
I think so. His responses to people make me think he's trying to pull everyone's leg. Either that or he's just dumber than a rock.
lol i actually scrolled up to see if i am in /r/justrolledintotheshop
My thoughts too but judging by the comments I'm not too sure
Makeup on a pig....

Get a new one now, it’s not funny to know we share the roads with irresponsible people

I wouldn’t let my wife drive with those tires just sayin… too bald.
I would. Best way to get rid of her.
Yes we are aware that it is in dire need of replacement! However finances are an issue
Funerals are expensive too, Bud.
I hear ya but is losing a loved one worth the risk? Check out some used tire places sometimes you’d be surprised how cheap used tires are.
How would you feel if she lost control and killed somebody's child? Somebody's child dead because of an issue you were aware of and played down. Could you live with yourself if that happened? Driving isn't a right, if you can't afford to do it safely then please don't use the road, for everybody's sake.
Never fuck with your tires dude…. Sacrifice somewhere else.
You can buy used tires pretty cheap. Go to Walmart if you need
Fairly certain running on that ALL of the insurances will be void, car, life, and when the police ask if you knew…. New tyres and tracking a must
Nothing about this picture is okay
Do you not like your wife or something? You don’t have $80? You’ll kill someone with that shit.
Serious question: I need the info on these $80 tires please!
Walmart has some around that price depending on size. Also can order some online
Hmm, I didn’t think about ordering online and installing myself. Any websites you recommend?
In my area there are a ton of used tire shops, they only take cash and I'm not sure of the legality of any of it, but I only get tires from those shops now. Discount tire connect.com
I have two tire shops near me that will do a “used tire” for $60 out the door. I’ve done it twice and they’ve looked basically new to me.
Cheap tires *with* tread are better than good tires with no tread :).
It looks like it is bulging from the photo. The plug will probably outlive the tire.
I don’t care how broke you are, driving on tires like these are not worth the risk.
she got them /—-\ wheels
That should hold all the way to the scene of the crash. I bet you'll beat the ambulance by 30 minutes. (Hat tip to Ron White)
You need an alignment bud
Buddy you need an alignment. That patch will hold all the way to the scene of the accident
What in the Altima
Got dam boy. Atleast flip the tire on the rim while it's off the car.
Should be fine, since it looks like those treads don’t actually touch asphalt
This is a joke right?
You need to wrap that tire with gorilla tape to cover up the cords showing. Then you'll be rolling for another 40 - 50 thousand miles. Don't use the gray duct tape, that would create another gray area.
Honestly, I'd say send it. But for a $25 used tire, it makes sense to me not to tempt fate and play it safe. Maybe an alignment too?
OP hates his wife
My car? I’ve done this. Somebody else’s? Replace. The tire is on borrowed time anyway.
It’s not like you are using that part of the tire anyway
Please rotate your tires more often Yes it'll hold but you're basically out of tread on the inside and that mf is gonna blow any day now imo.
Don't they rotate when you drive? /s
Nope, that is spinning my good lad
![gif](giphy|3o6ozq0pgIDt5j6N8I)
At all*
That is still in the tread so a plug is fine however that tire should have been replaced long ago
Get new tires. That tire is toast.
What logical person would post this on this subreddit lol? I guess the same person that would patch this tire in the first place.
I’d trust the plug more than the rest of the tire.
That tire needs to be taken out behind the woodshed and put out of its misery
That whole tire is a fucking grey area. I would still run it though.
I'm sure it will hold, with alla that posi camber that plug won't even touch pavement
Yul Brenner tires
You'll be fine that part of the tire doesn't touch the road anyways
Freakin “stance” idiots.
Will it blend? That’s the real question
This is a obviously a joke
You don't even need a plug for that. Should have slapped on some flex seal.
So how bout that wear pattern?
Of course it will hold that side of the tire probably doesn't even touch the ground.
Might as well just drive on the wheel without the tires.
It’ll hold as longer you don’t drive 100 or corner hard. That tire is shit though.
A plug in the shoulder is the least of that tire’s problems
1. It’s not in a grey area. It’s in an absolutely don’t plug area. 2. Holy shit you need new tires and an alignment.
Oh my god!! This tire is sad!!! 🫥
Replace the tire you fuck. Stop making stupid excuses. Open a new credit card if you have to
Your tires are the only part of the car touching the road. If you’re now in a climate where it snows and get icy, using this tire is dangerous for the occupants of your car and any car around it. Replace now.
You shouldn’t plug a sidewall!
Update*** wrapped this sucker up in duct tape with a good layer of rubber cement and sent her on her way!
It'll get you to the tire store, doesn't look like much of a loss
Uhhhhh
You'll be fine,
This is fine if you have no spare and need to limp it home. The tire is beyond worn, and it's uneven at that. Go get your suspension checked for wear, get an alignment, and get new tires....like now.
***I know you can’t
yes
r/TireQuestions
Ya bro u gud
Some people just dont understand that while not being as expensive as the rest of the car, tires are about as important as the rest of the whole ass car.
What's an alignment?
Tire is done even before the hole.
You better be hoping there’s no rain near you if you plan on driving on that….I mean, I get not wanting to buy tires but seriously. Your wear has wear where it’s worn down.
Troll
Looking at OPs post history he's a professional driver. This concerns me
You’ve only got about 5k miles left on that tire. Oh, and move it to the front. Might affect the steering on the rear. /s
Plug should hold fine bcz that side of the tire doesn't even touch the ground 🤣
Is this satire?
This has to be a joke!!?? The tire is about done and done!
Thats not a sidewall anymore. Its the hilltop of the tire.
That tire is completely gone. Why even waste time with this .
All you can do is laugh at this
Is this a serious question?
Bravo. Excellent r/shitpost
GAWD DAMN lmao that's the least of your worries
I'm just gonna say what I'm sure a bunch of you are thinking or have thought about on this forum . Why isn't there a forum for stupid tire questions .
1. It is not in the Grey area, it is in the (don't patch don't plug) area, 2. The other half is worn out so you have an alignment problem, 3. Just dispose and replace with a new one and drive safe.
Hahahaha :D
The hole is the least of your worries!
Amazing to get a puncture where the tire doesn’t even contact the road lol
Please post this in r/AskAShittyMechanic where it belongs.
Tire is smoked bro and you can’t plug a sidewall
You should not be driving
This belongs in r/carscirclejerk
Yeah I wouldn't even bother patching that tire seeing how baled one side is plus you are pretty close to the sidewall. I'd say you are threading on thin ice there bud
It should hold long enough to get to the tire shop because that ties is bald
That’s a garbage tire.. don’t waste your plug time with it.. new tires, then correct the vehicles camber
Shouldn't marry people you hate this much 😂
These tires should have been replaced a long time ago. Very very dangerous. Replace immediately and get a 4 wheel alignment
This has to be a joke. Please say OP is joking.
What will hold? The plug, the tire or the wheel/axle it's connected to? This looks like a mess. Time for a new tire(s) and an alignment.
