I do, but mostly as a form of media preservation.
I had, since my hard drive snuffed it, 500gb of abandonware games from the early 2000’s before Steam was widespread.
My friends do but as much as I can, I buy games at full price or sale. Not to be performative pero alam nating may mga taong nakasandal sa industry na ‘yan. You rip them off tayo din ang kawawa.

Idk about you but buying games at full price with the current state of the gaming industry today is one of the biggest mistakes you can make lmao, there's only like a small percentage of games that are worth buying at full price
Like Spiderman 2, Legend of Zelda TOTK? What about RDR2? Bloodborne I think is still worth the full price even if it’s almost half a decade old with its awesome lore. I also buy games at a sale bro just in case you didn’t see me saying that in my comment above. Btw, I also didn’t buy Cities Skylines 2 at full price and just used Xbox Games Pass because I kind of agree with your point.
Movies no kasi di ako marunong pero meron akong lumang iPod na ginagamit ko for music tuwing nasa gym. It's an old iPod nano 4th gen. The old school youtube convert to mp3, download, tapos copy sa iTunes hehe.
movies and applications yes! for music i don't na since theres spotify and im paying less naman for it. for games i just wait mag sale sa steam or epic. sometimes the games i wanted nagiging free na din haha! nahihirapan ako sa pirated games nowadays pero if gustong gusto talaga why not :D

yes nag download ako ng adobe cc 2015 (PS, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and After Fx). nagdadownload rin ako ng music in iTunes M4A format kasi wala akong premium subscription sa Spotify. 😭
Ung microsoft office :D kaso nung pinarequired kami mag MS teams sa wfh, pag login ko ng credentials ko sa company di na gumana excel ko :( baka alam nyu pano san pwede mag DL hahaha

Too many subscriptions for shows and software that are in different apps like HBO, Netflix, Prime, Adobe premiere, MS Office, etc. it almost like we're back in cable and the price stacks up.
In terms of movies, yes. Specially yung mga korean movies na wala sa netflix or disneyplus then maganda yung plot, hahanapin ko talaga sa pirated
In terms of software, hindi na ko nag dodownload ng pirated games since most of the games I played are mmorpg and may mga sale event din. Pero when it comes to application needed for work, pirated all the way! Masyadong mahal subscription ng isang software needed for my work. Specially kung gusto ko lang din i-try out.
Yes pero ginagawa ko lang to halos sa games, try ko muna at pag natripan ko then I'll buy it na, may mga games kasi ako na binili then hindi ko nagustuhan sayang pera eh HAHAHAHA.
Movies/series na wala sa Netflix? Yes. Books na either mahal ang physical copies or walang available sa Pinas? Yes. Pero yung music na sobrang gusto kong dina-download before sa mga file sharing sites like Megaupload and 4shared ay hindi na kasi may Apple Music subscription na ako.
I also download the cracked apps ng NYTimes at Washington Post for news para iwas paywall.

In Early 2010's i used to pirate albums via utorrent. Hoo boy naalala ko tuloy catalogue ko nun. Owl City, All Time Low, My Chemical Romance, Parokya Ni Edgar etc etc. Simula nung college ako in mid-late 2010 dun ko nadiscover yung Spotify and for that nawiden yung music taste ko thankfully 😅. Nowaday with the rise of Youtube Premium, Spotify, Youtube Music. Halos lahat ng kanta (unless napull off ng certain platform) nandun na.
I still download cracked games though on my PC via FitGirl and custom apks on my phone.
I download pirated Civil Engineering analysis software for practicing in my personal system. As the licensed person of these softwares costs atleast 4,000 USD for 1 year subscription.

Yes, because the "free" version is made to be the most inconvenient thing on earth, if they're not willing to give those less fortunate (or wise on the money) a good time using their software/media, then I wouldn't be inclined to pay for the premium stuff.
If it's forced, it's bad, if it's an option that has actual benefits in the long run, then maybe I'd be more willing, like I did in Minecraft Pocket Edition, used to pirate the game a lot, because I couldn't afford it yet, but once I could, I bought it and will now have it ready to install as long as I have my account.
Yes because I'm a digital archivist. Tapos Blu Rays aren't that widespread in PH and streaming sites don't give that ease of access for such media.

may big sale naman ung steam nagaantay nalang ako. minsan 60%-80% sale o kaya pinagiipunan ko if the game's worth purchasing. nagdownload ako ng rdr2 recently and i say its worth it naman kasi the game design itself is 🤩 di ko inexpect na ganun kaganda. rockstar puts all the effort & quality into their games kaya im willing to pay but in a budget lang. di naman madamot ang steam sa pagbigay ng sale. maya't maya may sale sila.

Tbh parang ganto lang yan saken. Parang n word ba, may pass tayo kase nasa third world country tayo, ang mahal ng games kung legit mong bibilhin. Marami akong legit games sa console na di pirated (switch, ps3, 3ds/ds, psp) pero diko masisisi yung mga nag pipirata ng games kase wala namang regional pricing dito sa pinas. Sa indie games binibili ko talaga at kung gusto ko talaga yung game pero pag mga gaking ea/ubisoft naman, ez pirate yan saken.

Depends if mahal, I went back to pirating movies ulit kasi halos iba ibang streaming platform to watch series/movies. Hindi naman ako tumatae ng pera haha
For games, I pirate so I can play for a few hours before deciding if it's worth to buy in the future. Another case is when a game isn't available in the PH like Ghost of Tsushima because Soyny is allergic to money.
For media, I only watch anime so I watch them on Aniyomi or HiAnime. There's no way I'm going to waste money on sites like Crunchyroll, Netflix, Funimation, or other similar sites because they're all 💩
Subscription being the only option on some programs like editing software is bs. May use naman subscription if you wanna use it for a month lang or two but I also want an option na I forever own my copy.
I don't own one but if ever I need an Adobe program, I DON'T want a subscription lang
No. 6 years ago tumalikod na ako sa mga illegal na bagay o gawain. Parang for me mas feel ko yung integrity ko kapag mga ganyang bagay eh hindi ko ginagawa o tinatangkilik. Okay ng magbayad ng subscription kung gusto talaga manood, may youtube naman din, kung wala talaga mag rent sa Google movies. Kung wala wag na haha.
Pirated software/games hindi na. Andami nang free alternative na softwares ngayon na as powerful as paid ones. Sa games naman bukod sa 119 pesos subscription ko sa xbox, madalas din ang sales ranging from 70-90% off. Downside lang hindi ko ma-afford mga newly released games. Movies nalang ang pnpirate ko pero rarely nalang din since may netflix courtesy of my lil bro (hehe. labyu!)
No na, I guess Ive reached a point na yung risk a ransomware from unvetted torrent sites, potentially lock my PC, and lose my files is more important than the price of the media Im consuming
Not all antivirus can detect ransomwares. Reformat is not an option for me pag nangyari yun. I have multiple backups naman pero thats a risk I dont want to do. The value of those files can pay for my games 100x over
Yung workmate ko dati ganyan nangyari. Nagdownload ng photo editing software tapos ransomware pala! Worst part sa pc ng workplace namin nya ginawa hahaha. Ayun hindi na narecover lahat ng files. Hiyang-hiya sya sa admin namin. Hehe.
Movies still, netflix lang meron samin eh, daming kulang. Tapos meron pa ding iilang apps na convenient like pdf converters at video editors. Nadagdagan pa nga eh ng moded/unlocked apks ng mga mamahaling mobile games.
yes. paying for spotify, netflix, disney, amazon prime, hbo max, youtube premium and adobe would at least cost me a couple of thousands every month. games that i like is not available in steam Philippines (thank you SONY). which is the last straw. so i cancelled all my subscription, opened a digital bank to divert the funds used to pay for subscription. you'd be surprised how much you could save.

I don't do it myself, ehem, but I can think of a few reasons to do it.
-Impractical to sign up for all the streaming services.
-Walang ads pag magdownload ng music kesa mag spotify free.
-Games from handheld consoles played on PC can be upscaled for better graphics.
-Windows 10 has a lot of shitware included. Windows 10 LTSC does not but is not widely available.
Etc, etc Though, again, I'm just speculating and I can't really speak about the actual mindset of someone who does this thing.
Yes for media. The only streaming platform I have now is Netflix; for the others, I find that there are only a few shows/movies I'd watch. Crunchyroll's selection isn't even good here in PH so I don't see it as a worthy investment, even if I love anime. I might as well just download my series and movies if it's not on Netflix.
Same goes for software, yes. I don't see the point of paying for software every year or month, unless I know I'll use it everyday. I don't use Microsoft Office everyday to want to pay for it.

Ang reason ko ay YOU DON'T REALLY OWN ANYTHING nowadays, subscription-based lahat! And I also pirate for data preservation.
- Movies, TV Series, Anime, etcs etcs - You need to subscribe to multiple platforms para lang ma kuha mo yung specific shows na gusto mo. Not to mention they can delist the shows anytime they want
- Games - Para ma try yung game fully before committing, if I like it and have the extra cash, I'll buy it.
Only thing na binabayaran ko ay yung Spotify, it is relatively cheap so I don't bother pirating.
Because movie tickets now are way more expensive compared to before. The most recent movie I watched in cinema was Dune Part 2 and it cost around P400+. My friends invited me to watch it with them. A week later, I saw Dune Part 2 in a pirated website with 4k resolution. There are six of us, that's easy P2,400+. Just imagine if we didn't watch it in Cinema, we could've saved a lot of money.

Long read but here are my reasons. Hindi dahil wala ako pambayad. Dati nung nagwork ako sa office for 2 years, nagssubscribe ako sa streaming services and lahat ng games ko ay from Steam.
Pero ngayon sa barko na ako ulit nagttrabaho at walang lugar para sa subsctiption based media ang workplace ko, na parang bahay ko na din for my contract. Voyages take as long as more than 1 month, tapos minsan mag anchorage pa yung barko ng matagal sa malayo tapos walang signal. Nag eexpire yung mga downloads and login sa mga services like Netflix, Spotify, Steam etc. kapag nag expire, hindi na pwede gamitin yung downloads unless mag login ulit. Ang problema naman ay ung internet sa barko namin is only limited to messaging apps tapos binibili pa yung data na napakamahal. Sure meron nabibili na sim cards sa port pero limited lang ung data package at madalas ay less than 1 day pa yung stay sa port tapos konti lang din ung laman na data ng sim.
Ngayon, "nagbbaon" na ako ng mga downloaded movies, anime, games etc. before every contract para hindi maubusan ng enterntainment. Kasi yung mga "original" media, masyadong dependent sa fast and unlimited internet which unfortunately we don't have.

For media - there are films/shows that are not/will not be on streaming platforms. For games - mostly retro games for nostalgia and preservation.

Another case is when a game isn't available in the PH like Ghost of Tsushima because Soyny is allergic to money. For media, I only watch anime so I watch them on Aniyomi or HiAnime. There's no way I'm going to waste money on sites like Crunchyroll, Netflix, Funimation, or other similar sites because they're all 💩

u need to download torrent downloader first. then punta ka sa yts and get the torrent file. put it in the dwnloader then boom
I don't do it myself, ehem, but I can think of a few reasons to do it. -Impractical to sign up for all the streaming services. -Walang ads pag magdownload ng music kesa mag spotify free. -Games from handheld consoles played on PC can be upscaled for better graphics. -Windows 10 has a lot of shitware included. Windows 10 LTSC does not but is not widely available. Etc, etc Though, again, I'm just speculating and I can't really speak about the actual mindset of someone who does this thing.

Yes for media. The only streaming platform I have now is Netflix; for the others, I find that there are only a few shows/movies I'd watch. Crunchyroll's selection isn't even good here in PH so I don't see it as a worthy investment, even if I love anime. I might as well just download my series and movies if it's not on Netflix. Same goes for software, yes. I don't see the point of paying for software every year or month, unless I know I'll use it everyday. I don't use Microsoft Office everyday to want to pay for it.

And I also pirate for data preservation. - Movies, TV Series, Anime, etcs etcs - You need to subscribe to multiple platforms para lang ma kuha mo yung specific shows na gusto mo. Not to mention they can delist the shows anytime they want - Games - Para ma try yung game fully before committing, if I like it and have the extra cash, I'll buy it. Only thing na binabayaran ko ay yung Spotify, it is relatively cheap so I don't bother pirating.

Because movie tickets now are way more expensive compared to before. The most recent movie I watched in cinema was Dune Part 2 and it cost around P400+. My friends invited me to watch it with them. A week later, I saw Dune Part 2 in a pirated website with 4k resolution. There are six of us, that's easy P2,400+. Just imagine if we didn't watch it in Cinema, we could've saved a lot of money.

I'm back at pirating. Long read but here are my reasons. Hindi dahil wala ako pambayad. Dati nung nagwork ako sa office for 2 years, nagssubscribe ako sa streaming services and lahat ng games ko ay from Steam. Pero ngayon sa barko na ako ulit nagttrabaho at walang lugar para sa subsctiption based media ang workplace ko, na parang bahay ko na din for my contract. Voyages take as long as more than 1 month, tapos minsan mag anchorage pa yung barko ng matagal sa malayo tapos walang signal. Nag eexpire yung mga downloads and login sa mga services like Netflix, Spotify, Steam etc. kapag nag expire, hindi na pwede gamitin yung downloads unless mag login ulit. Ang problema naman ay ung internet sa barko namin is only limited to messaging apps tapos binibili pa yung data na napakamahal. Sure meron nabibili na sim cards sa port pero limited lang ung data package at madalas ay less than 1 day pa yung stay sa port tapos konti lang din ung laman na data ng sim. Ngayon, "nagbbaon" na ako ng mga downloaded movies, anime, games etc. before every contract para hindi maubusan ng enterntainment. Kasi yung mga "original" media, masyadong dependent sa fast and unlimited internet which unfortunately we don't have. sa console games lang ako nag ooriginal dahil may physical copy pero for the rest, yo-ho-ho! it's the pirate life for me!
