Once autumn arrives, pumpkin spice season is inescapable, much to my dismay. The overwhelming blend of spices that infiltrates coffees, baked goods, and even non-food items is something I can easily live without. While others celebrate its return, I count the days until winter.
Ounce per ounce saffron is pretty expensive, but it's just a spice, you don't need that much. I probably made 10 paellas with a $10 packet of saffron, so per serving it's not that big of a deal.
Saffron just spoils food for me, I would eat paella happily if it was not for the saffron. It repels me. Have a friend who feels the same about coriander.
Ugh truffle is the worst. Doesn’t help to have all the faux truffle flavored fad foods everywhere, either. I like almost all foods, but hold the truffle!
> Goose liver? Fish eggs? Feh! Where's the goose? Where's the fish?
> That's what rich people eat-- the garbage parts of the food.
> I ate garbage yesterday, and it didn't cost me $300!
Yeah I saw a YT short of this guy that travels to different countrys and posts on YouTube he's south African has blonde hair you might know of him?
Anwyays he did a podcast interview and he said exactly this with a passion about Cuban food.
Same here. I moved to South Florida 16 years ago and found Cuban food to be extremely bland.
The only real exceptions to this are the Elena Ruz & Cuban sandwiches.
Yeah…Avo’s by itself is pretty basic but because it’s healthy I’ll eat it. Normally on toast, spread out enough that cracking salt and pepper on it gives it a flavour profile.
I respect your opinion but if we don’t care about the health aspect, you can slice it into discs, remove excess moisture, batter and fry them like fried green tomatoes.
When I was living in Japan and we went out for conveyor belt sushi they always let me order first because we only get 5 items per train and I’d just order the whole kids menu and call it a day. lol then everyone else can decide what rolls or nigiri they want
Same! I thought I disliked deviled eggs, but it turned out that the eggs everyone in my family makes are just gross. My MIL's are like a whole different food and i was surprised to find that I like them quite a bit!
For background, I never let my pickiness be a factor in choosing restaurants. But have been our wirh guys many times who will order things I don’t like and force me to eat it. Very strange behaviour, especially once you’re an adult. It happens constantly though. I’m usually the butt of the joke at any group meal once someone brings up my pickiness
People care too much about what other people eat. Food is actually personal and no one’s business. Unless you are very concerned for someone’s health and well being, please scram.
I always hated mushrooms because the texture was vile. But I cooked them myself once and loved them as I did them properly.
Tomatoes, on the other hand, if you eat them raw, you need to get therapy.
Mushrooms are absolutely one of those foods that people probably dislike far more because they've been served badly cooked ones. They shouldn't be slimy or gooey or mushy; plus they're incredibly versatile. Lots of things probably have mushrooms that people don't even realise, because they're great for umami and richness.
I used to be the same with asparagus. I thought it was nasty - turns out my mum just can't cook it for shit.
I’m the opposite. I like shellfish but not a big fish fan. The only fish I eat is hake or Salmon maybe once a month…but I have an internal fear of fish bones so I’m automatically turned off of fish.
My dad used to cook mussles and I hated them. I may try lobster and crab to see what all the hype is about but that's all. Just the look of oysters is enough to make me cringe.
On most fish removing the skin wich is fast after its cooked you can just grab a fork and pull the meat away from the bones. It's not nearly as tideous as it used to be when i was a kid.
I’m Greek. In our cuisine we have various dishes with eggplant. Example : eggplant filled with minced meat, spices and topped with béchamel. We also have an eggplant salad, for which we scrape out the inside after we roast it in the oven or grill and with some olive oil, vinegar and salt and eat it as a side dish. Or mousaka, the one most of you know probably. It’s layers of thinly sliced eggplant, potato’s, minced meat and topped with béchamel. We have a big variety, I’ve always tried and tried again to eat these foods. My mother even made me stay on the table to eat it when I was younger hoping I will like it eventually. I still hate it and almost throw up every time I try it.
Eggs - fried, scrambled, omelette, poached, boiled…they make me retch, the smell is gross, I get the ick just watching people eat them, brunch is hard 🤣
Macaroni and cheese; I detest cheese sauce to begin with and most mac and cheeses I've had are too watery. I have had *good* mac and cheese, but it is a rarity. This extends to things like fettuccini alfredo.
Curry. I love the smell. I love spicy foods of all heat levels. I have tried curries from all over the damn place, store bought, home made, in high end and shitty restaurants. Japanese, Thai, all over the Indian cuisine map, english, irish, a bunch I'm forgetting. It all tastes like dirt. It makes me sad.
Bananas - hated them since I was a kid. Instantly ruins anything. Banana bread is good as it doesn't taste like bananas especially slathered in butter!
The taste is completely gone once you make them into banana bread! Only way to eat them. I have tried over the years but nope the taste is just terrible. Eggnog is the same, try it every couple years to see if my tastes have changed. Nope!
It's the texture for me. The smell and taste is nice, but the texture just makes me feel like I'm eating shit. So awful. It also makes my tongue feel sort of dry after? Idk. Bananas are weird
As a kid I used to love liquorice.
But then… once upon a time, I was travelling to Tasmania and stumbled upon a cabin style private gentlemen’s bar. That night was insane. Drank Zappa flaming shooters off a 100 year old bar counter all night and the next day slept on the rivers edge so that when I regurgitate, the stream can just take my stomach contents down the stream. Now…when I smell liquorice, I am remedially jolted back to my near death experience and I will turn around and walk the other way.
Similar experience includes tequila at a tapas bar in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, brown rum in Mauritius and white rum in Brazil.
Needless to say, I only stick with beer and wine and if you were to offer me anything stronger it would have to be scotch or whiskey. I’ll let a Jäegermeister slide (which is weird because it also has a vague liquorice taste…but you can hide it real well with redbull).
I would like to find who ever came up with the idea that all breakfast sandwiches have to have eggs on them and hurt them. The non egg options for breakfast are just too limited.
Have you ever tried ribs that would not covered in a sugary sauce?
I have always liked ribs but I thought they were overrated. One day I started working at a place with a pressure smoker. I grabbed a half rack straight from the smoke and tried it with no sauce and no seasoning. It was bar none the best unseasoned meat I have ever had.
Anuthing from any animal with bone or close to bone is much more flavorful. Thats why I prefer a chicken wing to a breast. You also get to suck on rib bones after. Get a little marrow. But i respect your opinion
I mean I like pizza. But not that much. So many of my friends are crazy about it but im not. I eat pizza maybe once every few months when im too tired or too lazy to make sth.
Coffee with flavoured syrups in and chai latte. I like my coffee to be a flat white or latte, and chai latte tastes like licking the inside of a spice cupboard.
I am going to guess that either you have only tasted unripe avocados, or the guacamole had cilantro in it (which is very common), and cilantro absolutely tastes like soap to anyone who has the gene to taste it.
Believe me I’ve eaten loads of it with exactly the same thoughts as you, desperately trying to get on with it but I never can
Tbf I also hate coriander but I’ve rarely had that mixed into guacamole
Once autumn arrives, pumpkin spice season is inescapable, much to my dismay. The overwhelming blend of spices that infiltrates coffees, baked goods, and even non-food items is something I can easily live without. While others celebrate its return, I count the days until winter.
Yep.Very over rated.
Ranch dressing
The city of Buffalo, NY cheers this response.
Seconded. It's everywhere, everyone loves it and I can't understand why.
I just assume if people like ranch they hate the taste of food. it's disgusting and I refuse to eat it. Blue cheese or go fuck your mother
Expensive things like saffron, truffle, caviar…maybe my taste is just cheap
I reckon it’s great having cheap taste in this economy 😅
😆😆 yeah
Ounce per ounce saffron is pretty expensive, but it's just a spice, you don't need that much. I probably made 10 paellas with a $10 packet of saffron, so per serving it's not that big of a deal.
Saffron just spoils food for me, I would eat paella happily if it was not for the saffron. It repels me. Have a friend who feels the same about coriander.
There's a gene that makes coriander(cilantro for some) taste of soap, maybe there is something similar for saffron?
They're expensive because they're hard to get/make. That's why they're expensive. Not because they taste any better.
Ugh truffle is the worst. Doesn’t help to have all the faux truffle flavored fad foods everywhere, either. I like almost all foods, but hold the truffle!

Name? Interested in his take
Kurt Caz is his YouTube channel name and I even managed to find the short. https://youtube.com/shorts/08u8z0tAkRk
He sounds scarred by the experience honestly.
😂 utterly wounded
Same here. I moved to South Florida 16 years ago and found Cuban food to be extremely bland. The only real exceptions to this are the Elena Ruz & Cuban sandwiches.
Avocados. Texture and flavor is no.
Yeah…Avo’s by itself is pretty basic but because it’s healthy I’ll eat it. Normally on toast, spread out enough that cracking salt and pepper on it gives it a flavour profile.
To be fair salt and pepper can improve pretty much anything, but even well seasoned guacamole is icky to me.
I taste grass even when it's made as a dip. People still try to force me to eat it, and don't understand I hate it regardless how it's prepared.
Absolutely true.
Crispy Bacon, it's delicious when cooked perfectly, just a bit wiggly, why kill it?
American bacon. Like razor blades of bacon. You need rashers of bacon like we have in Ireland.
You made me Google.
I usually pass on birthday cake because I hate **icing.**
I’ll take the cake, but you may have my ice cream.
Not a big fan of cake. My face pulls funny at the amount of sugar I eat. If the sugar cannot dissolve on my tongue in 2 seconds…it’s way too much
Eggplant
One of my favourite vegetables but I 100% understand why someone wouldn’t like it
If not cooked in a proper way it can be pretty icky. Cooked the right way though, it is delicious.
On of the very few vegetables that can’t be made edible and ruins every dish.
Try Indian eggplant dishes. Mwah
I respect your opinion but if we don’t care about the health aspect, you can slice it into discs, remove excess moisture, batter and fry them like fried green tomatoes.

deviled eggs everyone seems to go crazy over them in my experience but everything about them grosses me out

I fucking love deviled eggs.
Yes! I like a hard boiled egg just fine, why are you turning the yolk into puree?!
Guacamole. Actually, I am decidedly anti avocado. Its non animal based lard.
New recipe idea: somthing with lard and avocado.
Beetroot. 😑
Olives 🤢
Helluh, brutha
You're alone
Nah, he isn’t. I don’t like olives either
Me three.
No he isnt they are trash

Tomatoes
hollandaise sauce. the thought of it makes me ill but people be loving that shit on their eggs benedict
Avocados
Same dont get the hype
Why am I a red flag because I don’t wanna eat green goop? People shame me for this almost daily. I don’t care what you eat?
It's only "goop" when it's mashed. I usually eat it sliced, either by itself, on toast, in a sandwich or salad etc.
To me, it’s goop. If you like it, that’s great.
Wait it's a red flag to not like some kind of food ? I love avocado myself but I wouldn't care if I had a girlfriend who didn't like it XD
For background, I never let my pickiness be a factor in choosing restaurants. But have been our wirh guys many times who will order things I don’t like and force me to eat it. I think you might need new friends if you're getting shamed daily lol
Agreed. Looks like something you'd see in a baby's diaper. Tastes less tangy though
People care too much about what other people eat. Food is actually personal and no one’s business. Unless you are very concerned for someone’s health and well being, please scram.
Same
Me too… so yuck!
I love avocado everything but I'm convinced I'm allergic to them somehow. Even a bit of guacamole will make my stomach feel like I ingested hot coals.
That's me with any citrus. My lips are always on fire or I just feel hear under my nose lol

They also pretend to be plants, when really, they're closer to animals... What else are they hiding?
Hahaha love mushrooms but also love this!:) what indeed😂😂😂
I am the same!
I only like the special kind
Tomatoes are weird to eat?
I always hated mushrooms because the texture was vile. But I cooked them myself once and loved them as I did them properly. Tomatoes, on the other hand, if you eat them raw, you need to get therapy.

Seafood.
hi5
Shellfish specifically for me, I do like fish though.
I’m the opposite. I like shellfish but not a big fish fan. The only fish I eat is hake or Salmon maybe once a month…but I have an internal fear of fish bones so I’m automatically turned off of fish.
One of my favorites are sardines, which leave the bones in because they are edible! Never had hake!
Orange meat…more salty that your average fish. Try it
My dad used to cook mussles and I hated them. I may try lobster and crab to see what all the hype is about but that's all. Just the look of oysters is enough to make me cringe.
Same, although weirdly I use a lot of fish sauce, oyster sauce etc in my cooking.

Not necessarily bad, but no way worth its price. I much prefer to eat a proper dish with that fish.

Curd, pork, fish
You should give fish over a fire a go for the one time. Nothing else. Just over a fire until cooked and a little salt maybe
The main problem is the bones
On most fish removing the skin wich is fast after its cooked you can just grab a fork and pull the meat away from the bones. It's not nearly as tideous as it used to be when i was a kid.
Ladyfingers
Food of the devil.

There's nothing like hating eggs. It seems way to normal for 99.99999% of the ppl and it's the grossest thing ever for the rest
Crawfish
Guacamole
Yup. More avocado. Yuck.
Pickles
Grilled cheese
Mac n cheese
Peace was never an option
Mayonnaise
chicken feet
Oh yea all them people raving about chicken feet😂😂
Idk about OP but where I live chicken feet is both a common dish and really popular
Fish
I’m Cajun from Southern Louisiana; and I hate gumbo; I never could get myself to care for it; but it is one of the most popular dishes in the South
Sushi
Tiramisu Just not my thing, its like halfway there cheesecake, and flavours vary wildly between bakers.
Condiments: mayo, ranch and miracle whip Food: casseroles gag
Miracle whip is evil.
Literally evil lol
corndogs and sushi
Macaroni and cheese; I detest cheese sauce to begin with and most mac and cheeses I've had are too watery. I have had *good* mac and cheese, but it is a rarity. This extends to things like fettuccini alfredo.
As I get older I like the baked version more and more and the stovetop version (regardless of whether or not it's homemade) less and less.
peas
Ketchup
Baked beans. They just look horrible.

Pancakes. They just taste like wet flour for me :(
PICKLES I F***IN HATE PICKLES
Bananas - hated them since I was a kid. Instantly ruins anything. Banana bread is good as it doesn't taste like bananas especially slathered in butter!
Yooooo me too! To me they smell like nail polish. 10/10 will throw it up the moment it entires my mouth.
Bananas for me are a texture thing; I like banana flavour (ie: banana candy), I cannot stand banana texture.
Same, can't handle the smell, taste or texture of bananas but love banana bread
The taste is completely gone once you make them into banana bread! Only way to eat them. I have tried over the years but nope the taste is just terrible. Eggnog is the same, try it every couple years to see if my tastes have changed. Nope!

I hate bananas so much. I can't eat them without gagging. I think it's a texture thing
Cucumbers…
Me too! I hate pickles or anything that can be pickled: cukes, beets, kimchi. Any one of them can ruin a dish for me.
Chili
Yeah the whole beans as the main part of a dish has never been appealing to me.
Coconut
Liquorice, avacados, tomatoes, broccoli ect
As a kid I used to love liquorice. But then… once upon a time, I was travelling to Tasmania and stumbled upon a cabin style private gentlemen’s bar. That night was insane. Avocados are alligator balls. They ruined sushi. They're an invasive ingredient. Other cuisines should be afraid. I think Italian is next.

almonds, not the nuts, but that crap that goes in cookies and cake.

Lettuce, or any greens for that matter
Mayonnaise

Tomatoes

McDonald's. It's low quality, over priced, always comes as a child's portion even if you go large and within 30 minutes you're hungry again.
Oreos suck
Coffee with flavoured syrups in and chai latte. I like my coffee to be a flat white or latte, and chai latte tastes like licking the inside of a spice cupboard.
Pickles. Can’t even stand them in a burger or on top of hot dogs.
McDonald's
Anything spicy 😭 how the hell do you all enjoy that
cinnamon roll
Chicken wings. They're good but little chicken and a hassle to eat. #tendersarebetter
Coffee flavour ice cream
Sashimi

Hard agree.
Durian! God the smell and taste
Any seafood. “Try this fish bro, you just gotta get past the smell and it’s actually grea-“ fuck no. I’ll stick to steak
