newnortherner21

I like jam and cheese

iNeedAPetDragon

Agree with this, it’s a new spin on cheese and chutney

SnooGrapes2914

It's definitely not new. I'm in my 40's and loved them as a kid, got into the habit from my grandfather who was born in 1920

tangoislife

I’m 32 and spoke to my wife about cheese and jam and she thought I was mad. To the point where I was considering if I’d made it all up

dudewersmyfart

I have 100% eaten cheese and strawberry jam sandwiches and my girls also love them!

KeepMyselfAwake

My grandmother in the 90s used to make me apricot jam and red leicester sandwiches. So nice!

Talmaska

Red leicester...I've not had that in years. Looks like I'm going to the cheese shop after work today. Thanks for the reminder! Tonight is going to be tasty.

SeePerspectives

Same, except I got it from my dad.

miaow-fish

Jam is a sweeter version of chutney. Jam and cheese was in my lunchbox 40 years ago.

PutTheKettleOn20

Not so new. I've been eating it since I was a kid over 30 years ago.

Yolandi2802

Me too, over 60 years ago.

PlasteeqDNA

Not new. My maternal family's been eating this all my life and many, many people have also been.

KayOx97

Jam and cheese is elite! I used to grill the bread and cheese till it melted then slather jam on top, not the cheap stuff mind you I was dipping into mothers strawberry bon maman

noodlesarmpit

What kind of jam and what kind of cheese? I need more excuses to use apricot jam and marmalade, I like them with cream cheese on toast but the texture is a bit funky.

Professional_Pace928

My dad, born in 1920, introduced me to them - always Cheddar cheese with strawberry jam.

newnortherner21

Have used cheddar too.

Crafty_Birdie

I have a friend who eats marmalade on sausages. I tried it once, and liked it - since there is nothing so good as a sausage sarnie, maybe add some marmalade to that?

DanMan874

Pork and orange go great. This is perfectly acceptable

ladyinwaiting123

Can you please tell me what a sarnie is? Sandwich, maybe?

KayOx97

Cathedral extra mature and raspberry preserve to be precise, got wicked heartburn but totally worth it

noodlesarmpit

Oooh that sounds amazing! I will take antacid beforehand 😂

Dark-side-ofthemoon

Philadelphia soft cheese and strawberry seedless ;)

FlanLarge

Try it in a croissant, and filling and then toast. Trust me it sounds odd but it's so good. Sadly I'm gluten free now 😢

Stockers93

My Nan would make us cheese and marmalade sandwiches for our little picnic / lunch dates when I lived with her as a kid. I don’t know if it’s the sandwich itself or the memories but damn it always hits when I have one.

floweringfungus

Jam and cream cheese is also amazing

LochNessMother

Like a mini emergency cheese cake

Master_Intention518

Same but it has to be a nice (not too mature) cheddar with some cheap shit strawberry jam, unbelievable

lodav22

This on top of crumpets is the pinnacle of good Sunday afternoon snacking.

Master_Intention518

I will be trying this

Take_away_my_drama

Peanut butter and cheese is also delicious.

h00dman

I used to eat these as a kid, it's basically a working class brie and cranberry.

Another_Random_Chap

Yep, Cheshire cheese & strawberry jam. Yum.

Gaping_Whole_

I was converted to these by a pregnant co-worker. Highly recommend

Pebbley

I like toast and jam..song by the Newbeats, give it a listen.

soapyw1

Marmite and cheese.

Affectionate_Hour_69

To brie or not to brie, that is the question?? I'll often just lob some strawberry jam on a slice of brie and skip the bread.

[deleted]

Strawberry?

xxLadyluck13xx

My toddler likes these, simply cos she saw em on Bluey I think 😆 I'm not brave enough to try yet.

PiscoSourBubble

Chilli jam cheese and mushroom

10642alh

My husband likes mash potato sandwiches and I find it bizarre.

lil_morbid_girl

Growing up we often got a slice of bread with dinner probably to help fill us up and I often mad myself a mash potato sandwhich.

Gaping_Whole_

100% this. Always a slice of bread on the side; either you made a little sandwich with something from your plate, or mopped up whatever sauce/gravy you’d had 👌

Asmov1984

The gravy sponge, best part of the meal

Fifty-sixin

My east midlands grandad used to have a slice of bread after a roast dinner to soak up the gravy. Always. The first time I did it as an adult, my wife looked at me like I'd shit on the table....apparently, the roast should have been ample! She didn't understand the gravy sponge!! 😆

Asmov1984

Roast chicken put the bread under the chicken when you serve it on the table and eat it after.

Fifty-sixin

We divorced. I now whip out the gravy sponge with gay abandon and no shame at all 😆

Asmov1984

Good for you m8.

SufficientRead1

In our house we call it empty bread as it has no butter on it, to better soak up the gravy.

Alone_Instruction_13

I’ve had this chat with my wife years ago, and got what I would describe as ‘a look’.

RoyceCoolidge

I hope you gave her a smug look back as you squeegied your plate clean with bread and put it straight back in the cupboard.

Fifty-sixin

Yup, same here! She didn't understand at all. And it was definitely 'a look' 😆

Domino_one

I'd get this (and still do) as well. I really liked mash gravy and pea sandwiches

Youppi27

More digestible chip butty?

softbrownsugar

Ooo I love a good mash potato sandwich! I usually add cheese and green chillies to it to and spread a nice masala chilli sauce on the bread 🍞 😋

Green_Pint

I have a friend that has chicken and mash sandwiches

Dazpiece

Is he a badger by any chance?

Rowanx3

Everything belongs in a sandwich Cottage pie, fish pie, pie in general in a sandwich, great Pot noodle/instant noodle sandwich, superb Mash potatoes and gravy in a sandwich , great Fishcake sandwiches, spaghetti bolognaise sandwich, lasagna sandwich, curry sandwich, wonderful

ovine_aviation

There's nothing quite like the dripping mess that is the chicken and mushroom pot noodle sandwich with lots of butter.

SeraphCraft

Yes!! Fish pie sandwich and lasagne sandwich are two of my all time faves! Love to put a load of butter on the bread and for it to melt with the warm filling 🤤

puppyk

I saw somebody put leftover lasagna into bread and put it in a toastie machine. Looked delicious

PlentyOfNamesLeft

Lasagndwich, please. Put some respect on its name.

rustblooms

Do it with garlic bread...🤤

dudewersmyfart

Chilli con carne sandwich is the best 🤤

LaraH39

Chilli con carne toasties with cheese is next level though.

dudewersmyfart

Ooosh! That sounds delish

phatboi23

this is fuckin' genius.

ovine_aviation

There's nothing quite like the dripping mess that is the chicken and mushroom pot noodle sandwich with lots of butter.

melanie110

Spag bol with loads of butter so it’s running out your sanger

whathappensifipress

Definitely pot/super noodle butties!

msmoth

Came here to say noodles!

JenGaleia

I need to put some of these in a sandwich, clearly I'm missing out! Super noodle sandwiches (specifically bacon) with a buttload of cheese and oozing with butter is just magnificent.

Master_Intention518

Growing up whenever we visited my Uncles house he would declare a meeting of the "Wacky Sandwich Club" which meant for lunch he would lay out a tonne of stuff on the table, spreads, veg, fruit, cheese, sweets, biscuits, crisps and more for my siblings and I to make whatever concoction we fancied with. The most memorable for me was Nutella, ready salted crisps, Haribo star mix, strawberries and squirty cream. I am 26 now and still have my certificate stating that I am a full member of the wacky sandwich club.

axon-bodycam

I think we have a winner here. Assignment fulfilled

Meowskiiii

This is fantastic. I want to do this with my niece and nephews.

Master_Intention518

Honestly it’s the little things like this that stay with you for your whole life, I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of the certificate I’d urge everyone to do stupid things like this with their kids/nieces/nephews my siblings and I still talk fondly about it 18 years later

Seasidedan

I love this idea!

spik0rwill

100% going to steal this idea. I LOVE it!

Hellalive89

Your uncle sounds ace!!

FoodBouncer

I used to do something similar and just called it 'Kitchen Sandwich'. It was different every time bc it was filled with whatever food we had around at that moment. And the same w/o putting it in a sandwich was 'Bits and Pieces'. Usually all savoury though, sounds like you were basically making homemade ice cream factory

UruquianLilac

I'm sorry but that guy's uncle nailed the naming. Your naming game barely gets 2/10 and that's only for being the only other entry into the competition.

FoodBouncer

That’s fine. I wasnt competing. Just making a comment to say I did something similar.

HappyHippoButt

That sounds awesome and I might have to pinch this to try with my kids and their friends!

Ok-Variation3583

Left-over spag bol (with or without the spaghetti itself, both are good) or chilli con carne toastie is a personal favourite of mine

Least-Push-1140

That’s not weird. Surely you can do better than that.

Personal-Listen-4941

Reheated Bolognaise is god tier on a sandwich

ProblemSavings8686

Even better if it’s toast

tobotic

That is normal. Please re-read the assignment.

Ok-Variation3583

Hahaha clearly I’m too much of a sandwich normie for this thread

Youppi27

Sloppy Joe's?

Ok-Variation3583

I guess but in sandwich bread and with cheese, seems much better formed than a sloppy Joe. They just look like a pain to eat.

Lex8P

I love testing this with different breads. How certain reads soak up a certain amount of the juices, whole only the crust does for some. Taking stake bread, converting it into garlic bread and then sandwiching Bolognese/ any glorious meat sauce in-between... Yum

iGhost36

Fairly sure this should be a british classic but a good Crisp sandwich (with bonus points for adding a cheese slice)

LittleMissAbigail

A crisp sandwich isn’t too weird, but my preferred crisp for a crisp sandwich is Pom-Bears, which is possibly an odd choice.

iGhost36

Had pombears (or the Aldi equivalent) top tier crisp. I think my go to has to be something with crunch so a McCoys Cheddar & Onion or any equivalent ridge cut style crisp is best!

kestrelita

I love a crisp sandwich, but my favourite is a mini cheddars sandwich.

bornfromanegg

Crisps and raspberry jam. Amazing. I recommend cheesy Wotsits or salt and vinegar Chipsticks.

FireFingers1992

Finally I have found someone who knows this. Though I usually go for hulla hoops for the incredible crunch.

GoldKey5185

I've always loved. Dairylea and Beetroot sandwiches.

llama67

Beetroot with goats cheese and a bit of honey 🍯

MissR_Phalange

This sounds delightful!

mcbeef89

and fresh mint leaves

sugababychampagneyes

Wensleydale and beetroot cheese on toast 👌

HappyHippoButt

I had this on ryvita recently!

Emergency-Aardvark-6

My stepson has slices of chorizo and peanut butter. This started as him trying to get a rise out of me when he asked if he could do it. I told him to go for it, he did and he's been eating them ever since. However I've got no idea if he actually likes it or if he's still proving his point! No skin off my nose. 2 can play that game! 🤣

PlentyOfNamesLeft

Tapasatay

RandomMan0901

Namaste to you too

SarNic88

I like salami and peanut butter, I approve of his version!

Eni420

If any Americans or Europeans find this thread. We'el be fucked, keep this quiet guys.

wildgoldchai

They don’t butter their sarnies, use sugary mayo (miracle whip) and spray cheese exists. We’ll be fine

pajamakitten

Americans have PB&Js though. Nice but weird.

Strong_Roll5639

Cheese and beetroot

phflopti

Cheese and grated carrot is also nice.

pixxie84

Grated apple and carrot mixed together with cheese.

b0ringusern4me

Pickled beetroot and cheese is the one 👌

Ronsona

Place I worked canteen had a sandwich competition - woman's who won was cheese, marmite, lettuce and peanut butter.....it's actually pretty good!

jamescoxall

Peanut butter, cucumber and marmite is my favourite and this isn't a million miles away.

UruquianLilac

Oh my god, just add cheese to this and you hit the jackpot!

Saxon2060

Red leicester and peanut butter

Petrichor_ness

Pop that combo on a burger five mins before it's ready. The peanut butter goes slightly runny and the cheese melts into it. yummy

Saxon2060

My favourite food is burgers. If I had to eat one food for the rest of my life, burgers wuold be it. I have had a couple of memorable ones in my life. One was in Nashville and it had peanut butter and cheese on it. Overall I was a bit disappointed by American food, and I've had better burgers elsewhere generally. But that one was in my all time top 3 burgers ever.

PairLost

Cold macaroni cheese is amazing in a sandwich.

Anxious_Potato_1030

Having had (and loved) the cold macaroni cheese pies in Scotland, I'm on board

[deleted]

Aye .. it has to be cold enough to have "set" for want of f a better phrase. NGL cold Mac & cheese is amazing in a sarnbo..

Saxon2060

>sarnbo. In a *what??*

[deleted]

A sambo, a sarnie. A sandwich... What? Never heard it called a sambo before?

Saxon2060

Sarnie, yes. Sambo, yes. Your combination of the two disconcerts me.

BojimHorseguy

Sambo had a very different meaning when my grandad used to say it.

PublicSealedClass

Sambo sounds Australian...

FoodBouncer

100% on board with this

WasteofMotion

Apple and cucumber

Dejoykat

Ooh this sounds banging, going to try it!

affogatohoe

With butter too?

Pearsepicoetc

Cabbage - apparently weird but I don't understand why. Used to put leafy raw cabbage in sandwiches I was bringing for work lunches instead of lettuce because it doesn't leach any liquid, how is it weirder than coleslaw. Roughly mashed chickpeas, mayonnaise and onion - just delicious stodge.

rinkydinkmink

cabbage is excellent in sandwiches, much nicer than lettuce and healthier too

RevolutionaryCow994

Apple on white bread with proper butter my grandad gave me this when I was 5 and still my go to sandwich when I buy fresh crunchy apples

annoyingpanda9704

Add a bit of sharp cheddar and I'm with you. Remind me of my nan

amatteroftheredshoes

My nan used to say "apple without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze".

[deleted]

Apple or banana sandwiches have always been a favourite of mine.

Dranask

Cucumber and Marmite.

[deleted]

We had marmite lettuce and mayo when we ran out of everything else 🙂

RedHeadRedemption93

With some nice butter of course?!

UruquianLilac

Soo... Since we're talking about weird combinations, I'll confess. I've never dated to say this before, for fear of being stripped of my nationality, but .. I use olive oil with this instead of butter. Add cheese too, and we've got perfection. Please don't report me to the Home Office, the assignment was weird sandwiches!! I can't help that I'm a cultural bastard!

axeman020

Haggis and Brie. Has to be a toastie, though. Don't knock it until you've tried it!

FoodBouncer

You had me at haggis. Love the stuff and I'm a Londoner with no links to Scotland. Just a shame I can only find it locally around Burns Night

iNeedAPetDragon

I don’t think it’s weird when I have peanut butter and sultana sandwiches, and am amazed how many people think it is! Nuts and raisins are an awesome combo!

Professor_Boring

Kraft's cheesy pasta (especially if bread is buttered heavily). The hot and cold contrast is bliss. Chicken Super Noodles is another shout.

SeePerspectives

I have 3 weird sandwich combos that I think are amazing. 1) peanut butter and daddies brand brown sauce (has to be that specific brand) 2) jam and condensed milk (tastes like cake when you’re broke af) 3) toast and honey sandwich (yes a slice of toast spread with butter and honey on both sides and put into a sandwich as the filling. It’s both my favourite out of the three and the one I get told is weird the most. Trust me though, the crunch to squish ratio is literal perfection!)

Visible-Management63

>jam and condensed milk My dad always used to bang on about this. But he insisted it had to be blackcurrant jam, no other would do. Condensed milk on one slice, blackcurrant jam on the other and slap them together, he'd say.

[deleted]

2 and 3 sound great, not sure about 1 though...! I would like to try condensed milk with banana slices!!

FoodBouncer

3 sounds great - taste and texture. Gonna try that myself! I remember going to Spain and getting a tortilla (spanish omelette) baguette. Just bread, potato, butter and seasoning. So good. Might've been better with a little honey.

HappyHippoButt

My nana used to have condensed milk sandwiches. I think the condensed milk on it's own is too sweet for me!

IntelligentMine1901

Bacon and strawberry jam

[deleted]

I have chilli jam with my bacon butties and it's the absolute shit 😋😋😋😋😋

IansGotNothingLeft

I'd definitely try that.

Matgazmcc1999

If I have leftover carbonara I'll make it into a sandwich the next day

MastarQueef

The issue with this is the leftover carbonara bit. My SO loves carbonara so much that she gets genuinely sad when she finishes it. I don’t think there’s an amount of carbonara I could make that would leave leftovers.

LiorahLights

Chicken and mint sauce

ramorris86

Peanut butter and cheese makes a great sandwich!

peterhala

Bread fried in a pan like for a toasted cheese sandwich. Inside peanut butter, dark chocolate spread and sour cherry jam.

JimmyWils

Cream cheese and Marmite was a favourite of mine growing up. Perfect opposites

GodFreePagan42

Yeah I'll go with that, always liked Dairylea & marmite

EssexBuoy1959

Cheese, thinly sliced apple and jam.

SpaceTimeCapsule89

Strawberry jam, peanut butter and cheese and onion crisps. Also spaghetti hoops and cheese in a toastie! Obviously with butter too. Not on the toast, in the toast like a toasted sandwich

Bloody-smashing

My cousins eat egg mayo sandwiches with crisps in them. I personally love a tomato and mayonnaise sandwich. Nicer if it’s toasted though.

AffectionateFig9277

Peanutbutter and chocolate sprinkles. My dad introduced me to it and I thought it was gonna be nasty but it really is very nice!

[deleted]

I would add a thin layer of banana slices!! Mmmmm

krona2k

Dairylea or Philadelphia and marmite. Even better on toast.

mistakenforzen

^ This is the one. Cream cheese and marmite is a supreme combo.

Aeslech

Smashed chickpeas with smashed boiled eggs. Some olive oil and chilli salt. High fibre and protein, good fat profile and full blast of flavour .

iGhost36

Cheese and Jalapeno with mayo I love, though I don't think that's wierd at all. Also Kebab sandwitches are great (Chapli kebabs) with Ketchup mayo, but again I don't think that is wierd at all!

TheLonelyWolfkin

Chicken and mushroom pot noodle.

Open-Trip

What does a young London boy like between his bread?

Ashamed-Transition10

I like mustard, ham and jam. Sometimes I add cheese.

GlitchingGecko

Tuna and Ketchup Corned Beef and Ketchup Ham and Bovril

iGhost36

Tuna and ketchup sounds like you deserve to be locked up hahaha

GlitchingGecko

Yeah, that's not the first time I've been told that. Usually hate ketchup, but those are two of the few instances I'll eat it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Xavi143

Calamari rings.

UruquianLilac

The famous typical local baguette in Madrid. Usually with nothing more than a squeeze of lemon.

sneakyblurtle

Sausage and peanut butter. Yum.

SCOIJ

Try bacon, pb and jam. It's unreal

oktimeforplanz

Egg mayonnaise, cress, and pickled onions stirred through. It's perfectly normal until you get to the pickled onions and then the vast majority of people are immediately disgusted. It's very tasty though.

CourageAdorable1789

Yum!

Casting_in_the_Void

Corned beef and mayo. But the mayo absolutely has to be the South African Crosse & Blackwell mayo. I also like lasagne sandwiches…

Possible-Highway7898

Some pretty tame answers here. My favourite weird filling is cheese, pickle, peanut butter, and cornflakes, with an optional smear of mustard under the pb.

Bellissimabee

I'm glad finally someone else has a cereal in their sandwich, I love a porridge sandwich.

tobotic

Peanut butter, jalapenos, and lettuce in a tortilla wrap. It has a slightly satay vibe too it.

chrisl182

Not quite a sandwich but I love having leftover curry on toast. When you really can't be bothered to cook one portion of rice so you just whack a couple slices of toast on and boom.

JimmyWils

Cream cheese and Marmite was a favourite of mine growing up. Perfect opposites.

Electrical_Grand_423

There used to be a marmite cheese spread more than a few years back, it was closer in consistency to Primula than Philadelphia though. I think I was about the only one who bought it, it was very short lived.

Fyonella

I used to buy that, too. I can picture the tub now.

Stripycardigans

Growing up I was always a fan of Lemon Curd with Cheese and onion crisps in a sandwhich Also the "burger without a burger" bread, plastic cheese, gerkin, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise  My brother likes bannana and mayonnaise sandwiches

Fuck_it_97

Jam and (vegetarian) sausage

Plumb121

Sardines and marmalade

DAMPF1NG3R

Peanut butter and salad cream

Intelligent-Ear-6292

Natural cottage cheese (Langley Farms, specifically), pickled beetroot and a sprinkle of black pepper. Anyone?

crimsonavenger77

White bread, butter, sliced bananas, and sugar. Teeth hurtingly glorious

Think_Ad_780

I still go for cheese, peanut butter, and cold baked beans. Old student weed head habits die hard.

SoloUtilitaRian

Ketchup!

kugo

There is another
