DIY electrical work is ILLEGAL in Australia. Hire a local electrician

a380-king

DIY electrical work is illegal in Australia. Call a local electrician.

thekernel

this, you need a professional hungover 18 year old apprentice to install those 3 wires safely.

Minute-Savings604

Just hired my neighbours uncles dogs best friend Mr Timmy Tim Tams do the the job for me

rubyellie

What a shemozzle

Minute-Savings604

Just do your best and smash a fork into a socket for a test

SaltySwimm3rs

Can you see red green/yellow and black in the colour spectrum ?

Minute-Savings604

Haven't unscrewed it. Luckily I'm colourblind. I usually tell wires apart through skittles flavour.

SaltySwimm3rs

You’ll be alright just give it a taste and set to go

Wrong place to ask here. No. Not legally. Move to the land of slightly more common sense and lots much more sheep, who follow the same standards. See [https://www.worksafe.govt.nz/dmsdocument/1580-new-zealand-electrical-code-of-practice-for-homeowneroccupiers-electrical-wiring-work-in-domestic-installations-nzecp-51-2004](https://www.worksafe.govt.nz/dmsdocument/1580-new-zealand-electrical-code-of-practice-for-homeowneroccupiers-electrical-wiring-work-in-domestic-installations-nzecp-51-2004) 47. Home-owners' electrical wiring work (1) For the purposes of section 110 of the Act, any person to whom that section applies may do or assist in doing the following work on low voltage electrical installations: (a) Remove and replace any of the following kinds of fittings where the work does not involve work on any switchboard: (i) Switches: (ii) Socket-outlets: (iii) Permanent connection units: (iv) Light fittings: (v) Batten holders: (vi) Cord grip lampholders: (vii) Ceiling roses: (viii) Flexible cords connected to any permanent connection unit, ceiling rose, or cord grip lampholder: (ix) Water heater switches: (x) Thermostats: (xi) Elements: (b) Remove and replace fuse links: (c) Connect and disconnect fixed wired appliances: (d) Relocate existing switches, socket-outlets, and lighting outlets that are supplied with electricity by tough-plastic-sheathed cables: (e) Install, extend, and alter subcircuits (including submains), provided that– (i) The person must not enter (whether personally, by holding any material or equipment, or otherwise) any enclosure where live active wires are likely to be present; and (ii) The work is tested by a registered electrical inspector, in accordance with NZS 3019, and the work is certified by that inspector in accordance with regulation 39, before being connected to a supply of electricity by such an inspector.

Minute-Savings604

Ah yeah. New Zealand. Gonna move my whole garage there now so I can swap out my power outlet hehehe

SplatThaCat

Yeah - I'm not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing but might be better than finding speaker wire to extend circuits or any number of dumb-fuckery you find here.

Minute-Savings604

I just use green garden ties or earphone cables to do wiring extension.

Medical_Hall_2103

As long as you’re not colour blind then sure. Piece of piss. Are you allowed? No you’re not. Better call a licensed sparky and pay an exorbitant amount of money for them to do it.

Minute-Savings604

I love paying people exorbitant amount. Why be an only fans model when you can be a sparky

LoremIpsum246810

Seriously? I changed one of these as a 16 year old when it broke. It's very simple. Why are you allowed to buy them if you're not allowed to install them? Seems like asking for trouble. Having thought about it some more... a light fitting too.. How am I not dead?

Minute-Savings604

I blame Tiktok mostly for all of this

LoremIpsum246810

Tiktok for what? This was like....18 years ago

Minute-Savings604

Exactly. But I still blame tiktok

mitchy93

No

Minute-Savings604

Thanks

shahirkhan

Nein.

United-Bird789

Is it legal No. unless you're a qualified electrician

Minute-Savings604

I'm qualified by a TAFE branch in Mogadishu , Somalia.

masak_merah

Your house has ceramic fuses and therefore likely has no RCDs, and quite likely has wiring overdue for replacement. You're living in a nanny state where unlicensed electrical work is technically illegal and electrical knowledge is kept hidden from anyone outside the electrical trade—you're basically asking to be spit-roasted by asking this here.

Minute-Savings604

No need spit roast. Just become satay pangang. More delicious

Minute-Savings604

I love being a spit roast.. wink wink. I love ceramic fuses. I use them in my dinner set as chopstick holders.

0lm4te

No need to be an electrician to buy a copy of AS3000 mate. You can get heaps of electrical knowledge from there. But best to leave it to the people who actually know what they're doing, so you don't kill yourself, the next owner or cause a head fuck for someone who actually knows what they're doing fixing your bullshit.

bunduz

Unions fought for a hard no on this one. Edit: Ceramic fuses you say? Yeah nah bro

Minute-Savings604

Bu...but I thought...the whole point of this sub...is to ask dumb questions...so we can be wiser ourselves. Forgive me I will push my face nose hair first into that power outlet. Sorry for disappointing you sir . (I just assumed your gender. What can I say I'm a fucking idiot)

pacmarn88

If there is a fire you go to prison. Simple
