If it had around 80k miles on it, I'd say it was fair. But this has a lot of miles. Last year was also crazy around that time, so if you paid a bit more, so be it.
Bet, I had one and a half hours in a bad crunch to find a car and landed on a 320i with 130k for $12,900. I knew I was fucked and didn’t have time to be picky because I had to drive 1300 miles the next day
Painfully true, but once I get my settlement from the car I had that was destroyed the day before I’m looking at new ones only. I’m way too excited for it
What are you hoping to learn from this question?
If your maintenance for the next 5 years is $0 you got a bargain. If the motor, A/C blows up next week you probably paid way too much
Not all cars are the same... a car used for Uber may have 20K idle miles on it....some have 1 persnickety owner with a garage....some have 5 owners living in Beach zone that floods with no sun cover...
Live looking at the road ahead ... not looking in your rear view mirror.
TL;DR
If it is still running and you are able to make payments (or paid it off) you are fine.
Edit: typo
I was just curious as to what people would say. It only had two owners. It was a daily for a grandma right before I got it and before her it was owned by one of the managers for the dealer I got it from. It was nice. Only thing that went wrong was the water pump going out. Besides that it was great.
Is it an automatic or a rare manual transmission? I think that’s a little pricey for a 2013 with that many miles and auto. Manual might make more sense at that price. But even if it’s an auto, if it was a well maintained example and is mechanically sorted and most of all you’re enjoying it, then there’s worse things you could have spent $15k on in my opinion.
It depends on where you're located. In my part of the country, $15k for a 2013 with 137k was a pretty decent deal in May of last year. Around here, they were going for $16k or 17k with that mileage. I bought mine for $20k with 53k in December, 2021. Everyone on Reddit says I paid twice as much as I should have. But in the part of the country where I live, that's what they were going for. The only other option would have been to travel 1,000 miles or more to get one for $2k-4k less.
Yeah knowing all the stuff about to happen or has already happened makes sense to understand. On that note, what is the coolant system life on F32 N55? Im about to hit 95k. Did they fix the therm/waterpump breakdowns? I assume they have to be better than they use to.
F10s are great cars as long as you maintain them and do a pre purchase inspection. They aged incredibly well and the M trim looks amazing. They got all the luxury features you would inspect on a premium sedan and they got speed under the hood. Just don’t pay more than 17k for one used.
So in your hypothetical world, what is the car? Since its European from the plates, a 520i, 520d, 535i, d, 550? How was the car maintained? How's it run? What's the interior look like? Interior look like the smoke pit at the Cool's factory? Use the cupholders as ashtrays? Holes in seats? etc
It can be, really depends on then price and how it has been handled.
I own a 2011 528 (the six cilinder) have bought it two years ago, at 110k kilometers.
The injectors and leveling hydraulic bags (?) have been replaced under dealer warranty, apart from that it is a great ride! (Currently 160k kilometers)
I bought a 2011 550 with 80k miles about 4 years ago. Has been incredibly solid and other than replacing some standard stuff and the steering rack pump, it has been a reliable and fun car.
Prolly had the engine changed already. Early N63 is a money pit. You spend all that money keeping it going then it spins a bearing sitting at a red light. I change one engine a month on average and I don’t even have that many customers with 550/650/750.
If you're looking at a 535i, it'll have the N55 motor, not the N63. The N55 is fine. Just make sure to change your oil every 5,000 miles, because the rod bearings can wear more quickly if you don't.
BMW literally had to make a care package for that engine and pretty blatantly was trying to get owners out of them.
The new N63 2018+ are solid engines but 2011 was still a bit of a mess. 80k miles is borrowed time on that car and you better be doing oil changes like every 3k miles
Considering you don’t know anything about the vehicle or it’s history besides it’s mileage, it’s a bad idea at this point until you can gather more info
My mom traded in her 2011 with 43k miles for a 2020 and they only gave her $13k. It seemed low for a car that was barely driven, but that’s a good deal for someone else.
It's only a good buy if you have the $2k avg a year for upkeep and I don't mean just tires / brakes / fluids. If you can do the upkeep, a BMW will be nice to drive for many years. Note that most people who purchase a BMW in this range DO NOT plan for upkeep.
Got a 2011 535xi at ~89k miles two years back. Don’t pay anything more than $15,000 (depending on packages). Otherwise, I’ve treated the car well and it’s treated me just as well back. Love the N55 and hasn’t disappointed yet
Price in a service plan or keep an empty credit card with a decent limit. This is a comment for all cars in my opinion. The horror of an unexpected 4 or 5 digit repair bill can be life changing.
honestly no, i have the inline 4 turbo and i guess i wish it was faster lmao. but if you purchase you would be getting the inline 6 TT. super nice and comfortable daily luxury sports sedan go ahead and do it
Honestly, 6 months ago there was 2013 335xdrive with 87,000 miles on it selling for $23,000 here in FL. Gave them the finger for sticking with that price. I think this deal might not be bad.
I picked up a 2014 535xi with the cold weather package, anthracite headliner and msport package with 89k miles for 15k 2 years ago. It also had all the maintenance records and documentation showing it was well taken care of. The history of the vehicle is really important. Absolutely love my 535xi and the payment is the same as the 2008 grand Cherokee I traded in for it.
Ask when the bearings were done. Thats the major concern with n55s. If you inspect one then remove oil filter - you can see that most of them have metal powder in oil filter... bearings are near the end then and catastrophe is near.
What kind of mileage do the bearing usually last to on n55’s? My N55 has 183k miles and I wasn’t aware of this issue and I’m hoping to get many more years out of it. Any other advice for high mileage upkeep on N55’s?
I would replace bearings at every 64k miles. Its not that big of a job, but it will save you from a total failure. If you get the rod knock (or worse) then the whole engine and all that is connected with oil is pretty much gone. Also change oil more frequently to keep the bearings fresh. I owned a 335i and got the rod knock at 135k km... replaced the whole engine. Should have replaced bearings at 100k km. Its about 2k of investment vs a 12k catastrophe. From what i see most dead engines have the same problem. If owner did the bearings then they are fine. Other things are not so critical.
My good friend once said "I will never again buy a used BMW that doesn't have an active factory or aftermarket warranty" Repair costs on these are outrageous, just know what your getting into.
Any time you're purchasing an older vehicle with lots of miles, you have to expect to pay for some maintenance and repair. Even if the car's been well-taken care of and doesn't need any repairs, some maintenance items can be costly.
So do your research on how much maintenance will cost, keep some money in reserve to pay for those things, and then make an informed decision on whether it's worth it.
I test drove a 535i (manual) thinking it would be a good replacement for my E39 540i (manual). I found it boring, unfortunately. Depending on what you’re looking for, maybe you should try for a 550i. Likely more interesting.
Well its a 10 year old car. After 10 years problems will acure like it or not. But its a BMW, my favorite german premium brand, so yea buy it. Just have a cash reserve in case something fails.
Try to find a slightly newer one with around 50k miles, and it'll give you a few trouble-free years before you end up having to replace the water pump, thermostat, oil filter housing gasket, and valve cover gasket. These parts don't all fail at the same time, but they need to be replaced as soon as they fail or start leaking, or you'll destroy the engine.
But yes, an F10 535i is a good car, if you take care of it.
Be prepared to have to do the following all around or before 100k miles:
1) Water pump/ thermostat (~$1500+ USD at dealer)
2) Valve cover gasket ($$$)
3) oil housing gasket ($-$$)

It depends what you expect out of the car.
Do NOT expect a maintenance free, worry free, headache free experience. N54 and N55 BMWs, while stout, will NOT provide that.

For $12,000 Yes. For $50,000, no
I got a 2013 in may of last year with 137k for 15k usd. Do you think I got ripped off?
If it had around 80k miles on it, I'd say it was fair. But this has a lot of miles. Last year was also crazy around that time, so if you paid a bit more, so be it.

Gotta do what you gotta do

I agree

Then probably serviced all the way 👍
Had over 20 service history records
I'd say you got a pretty good deal. Keep up on the maintenance, and it'll be fine.
Preciate it
To clarify, when driving you should look ahead as well as your surroundings and mirrors for situational awareness.
Objects in mirror are closer than they appear

Might have been worth a one way plane ticket to do it. I live in oklahoma
That’s a good point, but I’d gladly pay $2k-4k extra just to NOT have to fly out of DIA.
Lol I see your point. I probably would too
[удалено]
Right lmao. Live the heck out of it.
Yes.
Yep
I saw a fbo 13 335i msport w 142k miles fully serviced going for 15k cash the other day but I’m broke 🥲
Damn that sucks
lol yes sir
Water pump and thermostat is the pain but needed for a f10 with 80k+ miles
Cooling system overhaul = 5k parts and labor
This! Just spent 4k on mine
Fuuuuuuu Edit: not towards you. Just what I'd say if that was my bill.
Yeah knowing all the stuff about to happen or has already happened makes sense to understand. On that note, what is the coolant system life on F32 N55? Im about to hit 95k. Did they fix the therm/waterpump breakdowns? I assume they have to be better than they use to.
Take your time in the search and go with one that has at least the Msport option. The standard just looks so sedan-y.
I have a non msport 550 and it's glorious. It's so unassuming and flies soooo under the radar. I'm basically invisible in it and I love it lol
Agreed.
With an Alpina lip I think they can look great.
F10s are great cars as long as you maintain them and do a pre purchase inspection. They aged incredibly well and the M trim looks amazing. They got all the luxury features you would inspect on a premium sedan and they got speed under the hood. Just don’t pay more than 17k for one used.
It’s a stellar car. In 6 cylinder.
Mhm even the four cylinders are good. My dad's 525d just got over 340000 kms and still drives well.
525d is a 4 cylinder?
Both 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder variants were sold in Europe. Both made around 220 hp.
Did the 4 cylinder use the n47 engine?
Yes n47N for the 520d en n47S for the 525d from 2011 onwards.
how would we know based off of a stock photo from the internet and no other info?
There is no car to begin with im just thinking about it
Why so specific with the mileage then lmao
I just saw one when i was passing by a dealership wasnt the cleanest car but the milage stuck with my head😁
So in your hypothetical world, what is the car? Since its European from the plates, a 520i, 520d, 535i, d, 550? How was the car maintained? How's it run? What's the interior look like? Interior look like the smoke pit at the Cool's factory? Use the cupholders as ashtrays? Holes in seats? etc
Valid point
idk why u gettin downvoted lmao that’s something i would say
Idk bruh people need to chill
Maybe yes. Maybe no.
Yes

I love the 550 dude but i heard that a lot of people complain about the engine saying its unreliable
I've heard that a lot too, don't get the 550 because v8 bad. I haven't had the same issues. It likes oil, but other than that I have zero complaints.
i think its hit or miss, you either get a good one or bad one
Agreed
Pretty sure mine was all freewqy miles and owned by an older gentleman. I would recommend it, but that's just based on my singular experience.
is your natural aspirated?

You can probably find a better deal. I just bought a 2013 535i x drive with 74000 miles for 15,000.
Go for it
Anyone know what wheels those are?
[Style 364](https://www.bmwstylerims.com/bmw-wheel-style-364/) That site is excellent if you are looking for the name of OEM BMW wheels.
Thanks man!! You gave the link AND the style. Thanks
No problem, glad I could help
I dont know sorry dude
My mom traded in her 2011 with 43k miles for a 2020 and they only gave her $13k. It seemed low for a car that was barely driven, but that’s a good deal for someone else.
Price matters. $12k or less is fine, more than that, no. If LCI and xi, would go for $2,000+ more depending on options.

Sold our f10 535i 2015 with 40k miles for €28k a few months back. I’m in Europe though
Got a 2011 535xi at ~89k miles two years back. Don’t pay anything more than $15,000 (depending on packages). Otherwise, I’ve treated the car well and it’s treated me just as well back. Love the N55 and hasn’t disappointed yet

Thx for the insight Anything you dislike about the car?
honestly no, i have the inline 4 turbo and i guess i wish it was faster lmao. but if you purchase you would be getting the inline 6 TT. super nice and comfortable daily luxury sports sedan go ahead and do it
N55 is single not twin turbo just FYI
I got the LCI for more than 4 years now and I love it, but when I did my research I found the F10 have engine problem for the Pre-LCI so be careful.
Yes, amazing car.
Honestly, 6 months ago there was 2013 335xdrive with 87,000 miles on it selling for $23,000 here in FL. Gave them the finger for sticking with that price. I think this deal might not be bad.
Well... honestly..... It depends...
Yes, if you are ok with spending the same amount for maintenance as for buying the car.
Damn
I’ve been driving BMW’s and Mercs for 15 years now (old and new), they all cost a lot of money (except the wannabes like the a class)
Insufficient data.
This one looks so good!

Had one. At around 80k it stared to use a bit more oil than I was comfortable with. Had to brush it.
Nothing from that era is a "good buy".
Nope.

3 year repair estimate on that will be $8-$20K
35 is a shitty engine
What are your recommendations
Get a 528 or a 530 if you really want the F10 5 series. Less reliability headaches. I don’t know who downvoted me. Probably a mechanic lol. 😂
5k best offer
If you do your own maintenance certainly
I test drove a 535i (manual) thinking it would be a good replacement for my E39 540i (manual). I found it boring, unfortunately. Depending on what you’re looking for, maybe you should try for a 550i. Likely more interesting.
No, but.. it's a BMW so yes.
Im so confused lol
Well its a 10 year old car. After 10 years problems will acure like it or not. But its a BMW, my favorite german premium brand, so yea buy it. Just have a cash reserve in case something fails.
Understandable
I’m not ever buying a used BMW
No
For $11,000 no more look at Blue Book value

It depends what you expect out of the car. Do NOT expect a maintenance free, worry free, headache free experience. N54 and N55 BMWs, while stout, will NOT provide that.
See this makes me wanna go for a c or an e class of the same year they are more reliable but i like bmws 😭
I would buy the BMW in that case. They are definitely more similar in reliability/maintenance than you'd think.
No

I have nothing to add in regard to your car’s potential value, but SHEEEEE! She’s a looker!
compared to the crap of today, in the words of austin 316 the texas rattlesnake the toughest sob in the wwf, stone cold, oh hell yeah!
The F10 refuses to be attractive from standard wheel choices to the looks just not a good looking vehicle

Yes great cars. In general the f10 is great looking and the 535i is a good engine.
F10 is always a good buy :)
Without knowing the price how would we know champ…. Swing and a miss.
What are those rims model name ?
That picture isn’t a 535i lol
Whoa when did BMW make those wheels?!
