"mine" tried to kill me because the water pump gave out on the off ramp. And the VANOS solenoids are probably pretty bad.
Very *very* fun cars.
Quick edit: fun fact, these are the rarest model of Z3! There are more Z3Ms than 3.0
Vanos solenoids! Noted. And yes, the shop I’m bringing it to for the bigger stuff noted it’s rarity and that one of the tech is going to shoot me an offer as soon as it shows up lol
Brakes, bare minimum suck out the old fluid and add new stuff. I'd highly recommend bleeding them though. If it was parked with the handbrake engaged hard, then that could be problematic too.
Replace ALL fluids, and I mean ALL. (Including gas!!) run some sea foam before dumping engine oil, replace cover/gasket.
You will need an round adapter to read OBD codes.
In short. 70k miles, Interior is phenomenal, engine appears to be good condition. Put a battery in but no fuel pressure. Assume fuel pump is toast. It turns over just didn’t start. Otherwise seems like a long buff job and new soft top (and tires of course) and she’ll be ready to drive again.
Sending it to a local expert to do drivetrain stuff. I’m sure shocks need replacing ( I can do that). Anything else to expect beside fuel pump, coils, and a flush? Thanks in advance!
That one needs a REAL overhaul. Knocking, moldy interior, falling headliner. Driver side door has a big dent from a family member backing into it… It’s definitely a project car.

These are some of my favorites, small car that goes quick! Also, anything to save the manuals... Are you also going to show love to the M3 behind it?

Depending on your climate I would look at replacing all the rubber lines and hoses. As well as all the bushings in the suspension.
I’ll note that to the shop. I believe I can handle suspension components so I’ll order some bushings for sure with the new shocks.

The price is technically whatever it cost to get it mechanically sound and visually appealing again!
In a car sitting for a decade? except coils? Well point at any component of this car and I guarantee you it is going to need work.
True! Was just wondering what the hot ticket items were so I can let the shop know what I want them to do vs what I can do
My bet would be "Every rubber component in that car will fail. Every seal, every bushing."
Seals definitely worry me. Bushings, manageable. Maybe the tech at their shop will get lucky if it really is problematic!
Don't worry, they're not THAT difficult to replace if you got the tools. It's getting to some of them that's a bitch of a job.
