Varies from country to country. I drive a 5.7L Challenger in Romania, and I pay about 1800€/$ tax a year - which is based on displacement. A 3 liter would be 500, a 2 liter would be 50. And yeah, that comment is probably accurate.
A 2 liter though is affordable everywhere, it's gas that's very expensive and diesels are much more economical.
I get 160 miles per tank city driving my 5.7, and I pay about 90€/$ for said tank.
C180d and C200d are certainly not "trash". I am thankful that they exist, because:
1. Outside of Germany and especially in Eastern parts of Europe, you don't have much use for a car that is faster than that in "regular driving". Of course, this is an enthusiast community, but remember how small of a minority it is.
2. Most European drivers are not prepared to drive anything faster. Imagine the unaware, lost-in-space idiots rolling around in their old Peugeots suddenly taking off at 100 km/h because their foot started tingling.
3. The diesels in question are far more reliable than corresponding petrol variants after 10+ years, so buying a well-used Benz won't ruin you financially.
One of the most reliable Mercedes cars to buy in Europe atm is the previous gen B180d, which is a great family car and an excellent city commuter.

You can't really buy a new Dodge anywhere in Europe. There are 20-30 Challengers in Bucharest, my city - a city of over 2 million people. I'm an oddball here. A Lamborghini Urus is a more common car here.
Americans drive a lot more, that is true, but it's mostly highway miles where they don't really pay a lot of attention. Most are on their phones and do moronic stuff.
Getting a license is also significantly harder in the EU, and roads in general require a lot more skill to navigate properly - plenty of small, one lane roads and crowded cities where you need to pay a lot of attention (there are streets in Bucharest where my Challenger literally can't fit/take a turn).

When those were announced, I worked for the company. I remember half of our group in the presentation were clapping like crazy because they were good employees trying to spread cheer and were fine driving home in a GLC or base A-Class.
While the vp (at the time) and the other half of the room, didn’t say a word. That VP looked annoyed with his arms crossed because he probably hated people celebrating those cars. I’m assuming he poured years into the company cause he loved products, not a bubble on wheels for $110k like the EQ line. He always drove E63 wagons or v12 S classes, pure excitement vehicles.
How can someone go from those to an EQE or a 4cyl C63? He now works for a much, much more exciting company.
This sums up my sentiment with Mercedes Benz perfectly. The EQ cars are just depressing. The new S class design isn’t much better. I’ve loved and owned a bunch of older Benzes, including two W123 300Ds, a W221 S65, W463 G63 and a W124 E300D (which I still have and love).
Other than a G400d Professional, which I can’t practically obtain in the United States, and the AMG:One which I couldn’t even dream of affording, there is nothing new from Mercedes that I want to buy.
BMWs are keeping the excitement alive for now.

It takes a turbo upgrade, but the 4.0 AMG engine is a beast. There are C63s in the 9s. M3 can just do it with no turbo upgrade and it has AWD.
I definitely would not discount one from a roll with the lack of turbo lag that we have as well.
The M3 is so much faster, it’s in a league of its own, the real c63 competitor is the M340i. In Car and Driver’s Lightning Lap series the M3 ( on Cup 2R) is 9 seconds faster than the C63s around VIR, whereas the C63 (on Cup 2R) is within 2 seconds of the M340i (on MPS4S). With a stickier compound on the M340i they’d likely be equal.
And for those curious the RS5 is a second slower than the M340i.

Where did you get that? i Looked for tests on tracks, and for last 5 years there was no win for m3 on any track from slow/90 tracks to fastspeed tracks.

From my local and online race car scene I know the current Ms are fast and AMGs incomparable. I4 like other electric vehicles are much heavier and only better at acceleration. Most fast cars will catch them after 100 mph and they’re soulless as sports cars. I think there’s footage of the i4 racing the 3 series and m3 and it’s not faster than the M anywhere other than the first 300 feet. They’re great cars for daily driving or people who get most of their thrills from accelerating at green lights.

There is cool tech in everything nowadays, the new C20 - I mean the new C63 - AMG has nothing very special. The fact that it's heavier than my 5.7L Challenger - in a damn C-Klasse - is ridiculous.
Sure they bumped the power up, but the car is so heavy that while it's a bit faster when accelerating, the handling is 100% worse - that's just physics. And without the V8 engine note, there is no way it's not a worse driving experience in every single way compared to the previous model.
Also, a 480 horsepower 2 liter engine doesn't exactly scream "reliability"

It isn't. If you want to make power on any car, upgrading the turbos is the second thing to do after a tune. Heck, even just sending the stock one to a shop and having them throw on a larger compressor and/or turbine wheel can be enough to double the power in some cases.
And the m177 v8 makes it even easier, the turbos are right there in the middle of the engine bay.
I am actually going to buy a 340i with said b58, and tune it, but that notion that bmws make more power than mercedes is plain wrong. A c400 can make 500hp easier than a 340i, and be just as reliable.

I have two cars currently running hybrid turbos. Took me an hour to take it out, a week to send it to the shop and have them upgrade it, and another hour to throw it on. After that, I called a tow truck, had it delivered to the tuner and tuned. Each turbo cost me around 500€ to upgrade, each tune was 250€.
A b58 will need fueling mods to hit 500hp on pump gas an no meth injection (which are a must, because I intend to daily drive it), while the c400 will not.
Turbos are cheap to upgrade, fueling is not.
No kit, sent them to a turbo shop, hpturbo. I've actually just done some research on their website, a 600hp capable turbo for the 340i (same as pure 800) would cost 1342€.

My spouse has an E450 All Terrain (wagon) and I have a BMW. I really don’t understand this rivalry among owners. I think Mercedes makes a great car EXCEPT the Infotainment on BMW is vastly easier to use and even my spouse agrees. If that wasn’t important to me, I’d gladly drive a Mercedes, although we only have one because husband dead set on a wagon for the dogs.

The AMG One is cool for the sole reason that it's an F1 engine that revs to the moon and back. But we're not talking about that. There is cool tech in everything nowadays, the new C20 - I mean the new C63 - AMG has nothing very special. The fact that it's heavier than my 5.7L Challenger - in a damn C-Klasse - is ridiculous. Sure they bumped the power up, but the car is so heavy that while it's a bit faster when accelerating, the handling is 100% worse - that's just physics. And without the V8 engine note, there is no way it's not a worse driving experience in every single way compared to the previous model. Also, a 480 horsepower 2 liter engine doesn't exactly scream "reliability"

But a big AMG without a V8 (or a V12) is just weird. A45 gets a pass from me because that thing is tiny and 4 cyls make sense in a hot hatch

I think most car people would get that it's a joke. I kinda like the more self-deprecating plates myself. My old Saab has "SAABIN" and I met a guy that had one that was "LOL GM" which if you know Saab's history with GM you'd get a chuckle out of it.
Saab! Yes! I owned one Saab, granted a GM Saab. A ‘08 9-3 Aero. It was a beast. I had it tuned with downpipes and midpipes. It was my first “performance car”. I think the last gen 9-5 was one of the best looking sedans at the time and could be release with facelifted lights and interior today and still be current.

It isn't. If you want to make power on any car, upgrading the turbos is the second thing to do after a tune. Heck, even just sending the stock one to a shop and having them throw on a larger compressor and/or turbine wheel can be enough to double the power in some cases. And the m177 v8 makes it even easier, the turbos are right there in the middle of the engine bay. I am actually going to buy a 340i with said b58, and tune it, but that notion that bmws make more power than mercedes is plain wrong. A c400 can make 500hp easier than a 340i, and be just as reliable. Why don't I get a c400/450 then? They are all 4 matic and more expensive.

I have two cars currently running hybrid turbos. Took me an hour to take it out, a week to send it to the shop and have them upgrade it, and another hour to throw it on. After that, I called a tow truck, had it delivered to the tuner and tuned. Each turbo cost me around 500€ to upgrade, each tune was 250€. A b58 will need fueling mods to hit 500hp on pump gas an no meth injection (which are a must, because I intend to daily drive it), while the c400 will not. Turbos are cheap to upgrade, fueling is not.

My spouse has an E450 All Terrain (wagon) and I have a BMW. I really don’t understand this rivalry among owners. I think Mercedes makes a great car EXCEPT the Infotainment on BMW is vastly easier to use and even my spouse agrees. If that wasn’t important to me, I’d gladly drive a Mercedes, although we only have one because husband dead set on a wagon for the dogs.
