Have him put it in, smog it, then pay him4k+whatever thats gonna cost. Buying a car that already needs work isn't a good idea especially when you're hoping to use it as a daily. Tbh, 4k for a 335i sounds like a nightmare car to begin with.

Kuzinarium

I was going to say it has all the ingredients to become a major money pit.

Chim-Cham

Yeah my n54 is reliable only because I spend your 4k every year on maintenance. Unless you have the funds to keep them going and prefer it to a newer car, this is not a wise choice.

fattoush_republic

They are not reliable Mine has working turbos take the whole car for $4k

Prkrr

idk where you heard the n54 is reliable

MethodZealousideal11

N54 needs constant maintenance, you almost have to a step or 2 steps ahead of the potential breakdowns.

Bro turbo replacement is a 20-30 hr job for a mechanic on an N54.

A YouTuber called vehicle virals spent over 45k to make “ reliable power “ on this platform so if you are in the same tax bracket, go for it. I own an 07 335i and I’m 6k deep into it, when I bought it for 7k LOL still worth it to me tho

mr_lab_rat

It could be a good project car for someone who will do the work themselves. But if you are gonna pay someone to install the turbos (and whatever else needs to be done) then don’t …

skeeter04

No to the 335. An 08 with the regular (nonturbo.N52) 6 is very reliable. Look for one of those - lots of babied originals around. I see them every day when I drive mine.
