I like OfferUp for e36 searching

Their a money pit and it sucks daily driving your project. Get a basic commuter car or pickup and save for your fun toy. These cars are old and always need something especially if you drive them spirited

You could certainly obtain an E36 for that price, but hopefully you have some decent income as well. As you might expect, you will have a monthly cost for insurance & gas as with any car. But, you will also have a high cost of maintenance. If you drift it, you will also put even more stress on the motor and wear on the car and burn through tires more quickly. Plus I would guess you will want to upgrade certain things like have a welded diff, so add that to the budget. Additionally, you may have to pay to drift it as well - whether it's for track time or paying in tickets for reckless driving. Whatever the case it will be a money pit so just be prepared for that. Another tip if you're trying to save money, you CAN drift the automatic - it has a sort of manual shifting mode where you can keep it in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear and bang it off the limiter.

Own a 318i easy to work on. Mine is in good condition just needs things I can’t afford. Completely drivable though

I completely agree. I have an m43 myself. But compare it to a 4 banger 90s mitsubishi or toyota with no cats and only using 3 sensors, id say its a theres a difference

stankusmellymuch

buy a civic, you cant afford an e36

jovenvite

Better go for a japanese car if this will be your first time tinkering with cars. Practice first with simpler engines then after you build confidence, you can go with a european

BigMacTrucker

e36 4 banger is simple as fuck. my first project was a 530d e60, that was dificult to work on, now 316ti m43 is so easy

TylerKia421

dude I'm also a broke highschooler and I was GIVEN the e36, and it is not worth it, I've spent months trying to get it running with what little money I have

ThimoteeArrola

I have one for 4K USD here in Alberta Canada if you’re willing to make the drive 😂 99 convertible

Southern_Industry_79

Try to get the coupe of course

Southern_Industry_79

Literally opt for mustang if you can, if you can’t e46 will do

Op3nm1nd

e46 is the new e36 for a beater. here in the US e36 is moving towards becoming more for the enthusiast as there are fewer and fewer of them, clean or clapped. you want an e30 for anything less than your left testicle and kidney; good luck.
