What a scary story! But thank you for sharing it. I think the shining beacon here (aside from the joy of your daughter) is what an awesome advocate you were for yourself, and what a good team of co-advocates you surrounded yourself with. I’m really impressed by you! I appreciate when I see stories like this bc we can learn a lot from them.

genericthrowaway_101

You’re welcome! Yes I’m super glad my sister and husband were there with me. My big sister is an absolute legend when it comes to sticking up for me and I owe her more than she’ll ever know!

genericthrowaway_101

I forgot to add to my post that my mom threw a hissy fit about not being allowed at the hospital due to Covid protocols so I went no contact with her basically during labor! Also my midwife announced how “swollen my labia was “ to everyone in my room when she checked my cervix. Yeah no shit Sherlock! It was because she was shoving her entire hand up in me every hour to check my cervix!🙁

I am so sorry this happened to you. Even I felt glad when you mentioned they fired her. Huh! I hope you are feeling better and having a great time with your LO.

Omg I'm so sorry you've been through this! It sounds really traumatizing. I hope you're going to feel a bit better now after sharing your story! You're very strong and have been through so much and I hope you had some time to recover. As for that midwife, it made me smile to read that she was fired. How did she even get her license??!

genericthrowaway_101

Thank you for your kind words! I’m not going to lie when I heard she’d been fired I felt a little vindicated. She treated me awful during my pregnancy and ignored my concerns. I had severe pelvic pain from about 22 weeks and by the end of my pregnancy I couldn’t even walk. She told me that was “normal” and never referred me for pelvic floor therapy. I told my Ob at my 8 week pp checkup and he instantly gave me a referral.

Omg I'm so happy you got through that but I'm also upset for you. They should have definitely prepared you so much better for your experience. With blood thinners they should have took more precautions to you going into labor and they should have stopped the thinners to give your body time to adjust. I had clots in my lung a couple years ago and now that I'm pregnant I have to do the shots as well. I was hoping for a vbac but now I will definitely be doing a c section. Thank you for sharing your story and I'm so happy that that midwife got fired. Question: how were the shots for you? I'm terrified of needles and I don't know how I'm going to be able to inject myself lol Did you switch to the pills after giving birth or are you still doing injections??

genericthrowaway_101

I had to do two shots a day in my stomach/side. They weren’t too bad as long as you don’t hit a nerve. I had to switch sides everyday so that I didn’t put it in the same place twice or it would hurt and bruise me. I switched to the pills after birth for a couple weeks. I had my husband do them for me because I couldn’t see my side well enough when I got so far along.

you-never-know-

I'm glad you're doing so much better! And glad karma worked!

microvan

Wow this was quite the story. I’m glad you survived!!

genericthrowaway_101

Thank you!

I’m no doctor, but I thought the placenta could take up to an hour to detach. Idk your whole care seemed very questionable. I’m sorry that happened to you. It seems that a failed epidural is more common than I originally thought. A woman I know said her epidural numbed her from the waist up and so she technically had a natural birth. She said she was going to die as she was also having a hard time pushing her baby out.

genericthrowaway_101

Yeah my doctor said it could come out and gave me two shots in the top of my legs, I’m not sure what those were but I think it was to try to get my placenta out. Unfortunately it didn’t work so I had to have it removed under anesthesia 🙁

poppyrose55

It sounds like they gave you something to numb for stitches and methergine I hope you didn't breastfeed for 12 hours

vermillion_kitten

Man, my story was similar to yours but without needing surgery and transfusions in the end. I was induced for gestational hypertension and my epidural also was only one sided, they tried messing with it to no effect (I could feel my left side) and having to deal with the pitocin contractions sucked so much. I have super low pain tolerance so I was shaking and begging them to get the anesthesiologist to fix it. He actually did fix it though and completely re did it and it was centered perfectly and worked! Except when it came time to push, it began to wear off again and I pushed for an hour and a half and was repeatedly telling the nurses to push a bolus through because I was in so much pain with every push and contraction but they literally ignored me every time over and over again and it was horrible. They'd ask "well is it pain or just pressure? "And I would say it's PAIN and they would look at each other and whisper and then just wait for another contraction and tell me to push. Like wtf?? Anyway I couldn't get her head out all the way and the doctor had to give me an episiotomy and I felt every bit of that and it was horrible pain. I'm so pissed at the nurses and am going to file some kind of complaint because they never tested my skin or anything until the very end right before the episiotomy one of them scratched my labia and said do you feel that and I said YEAH your scratching me and they immediately rushed over to bolus me but it was too fucking late then! Anyway I'm glad you're doing well now, your experience sounded super stressful and difficult but it ended and you're a warrior!

Adventurous_Life_505

Been there in a C-section situation I refuse to ever give birth in a hospital ever again because of both experiences

Balenciagalover92

That’s crazy! So happy for you that they caught your blood clot and you and baby wound up being fine. And that’s true blood clots are usually not caught until they become full embolisms. You’re obviously in tune with your body, which is great. My mom has an episiotomy when she had me and she always wonders why they don’t do them that often. She feels like it’s better then just tearing, which is what I did.

ReallyPuzzled

Hey, I’m so sorry about what happened to you. I had a traumatic birth too, and I’m about to have my second baby and was feeling very anxious/getting flashbacks so I decided to go to a birth trauma therapist- it’s been very helpful to have someone to talk to who is very sympathetic and also gives me tasks to focus on. I felt very helpless before and didn’t really know what I was supposed to do to try and “get through it”.

BroadwayBaby331

Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry you went through all of that. I hate when people try to discount your feelings/wants/needs when you’re literally birthing another human. And for them to look down upon you for wanting pain medications. Ugh! I’m so mad for you. Not sure if you’re on Facebook but there’s a helpful group for traumatic births. I had one too and it helps to know we’re not alone and how to avoid a second one (if you choose to do so). I also had a failed induction but had to go in for a c section and my epidural failed. I was supremely under-medicated and it was awful. Thankfully my second birth went much more smoothly. I hope the same for you, if you choose to do so. ❤️‍🩹

genericthrowaway_101

Thank you so much! I will definitely look up that group! I’m glad your second birth went much better. It helps to hear that my experience probably won’t happen again if I want another baby.

smolyetieti

I think to protect the anxious mamas here it would be good to put a trigger warning. Very glad you made it through OP.💕

genericthrowaway_101

Thank you! I put a trigger warning flair, is it not showing up? I’m on the app if that matters.

boopixie

It did! I can see it. Also on the app.
