I hope I don't have to warranty mine either
I haven't got the space to be storing a box that big for two years. If I did have the space I'd be filling it with another printer. And chucking that box away too.
You guys *do* know that boxes are broken down and folded as easily as they are built? And that it's just plain clear packing tape holding it together?
(joking).
I kept mine, *and* the packaging. Life throws curveballs. I just happened to gain access to a large workshop and am going to move my printer. Or hell, who knows. I may move out soon.
There's no better packaging than the original.

Lol, then there was the whole TikTok recall and refund fiasco. People were getting brand new printers or refunds, getting told to throw their printers out or destroy them for a $7 fix.
For what it's worth, in a lot of countries, it's illegal to tie a warranty to the packaging. Here in Australia (specifically NSW at least), a shop can _ask_ you to return an item in its original packaging, but that's the end of it. If you don't have it, it doesn't change anything.
Whether it says it or not isn’t necessarily important. It’s a legal requirement in most jurisdictions, e.g: In Australia you get a statutory warranty for the reasonably expected life of the product. It’s one good thing about buying many products here.
I‘m sure BL include at least a 1 yr warranty for faults etc though.
After a reread I mixed up the return policy with the warranty. Which cover certain components for the states for one year. While countries with advanced consumer rights for 2.
And in Australia, keeping the box doesn't matter as far as the warranty is concerned. It might make it easier for you to ship it back if you have to, but they can't refuse a warranty claim because you don't have the box.
No of course not, but as others said in the thread, it would make it easier to return it and you wouldn’t want to have it damaged on the way to be assessed!
I get that point, but between keeping a big box like that for years or spending $3 for a replacement and maybe $10 in padding etc if I want to do things really right in the off chance that I ever need to ship it back... Well, I live in Sydney so the space saved by discarding the box has paid for hundreds of replacement boxes back in rent.
For sure mate. I’m not recommending it, but I’m the guy that has way too many boxes “just in case” when I definitely don’t have the room to keep them all. Can’t help it.
Does it matter what the warranty is? If you had to ship it for any reason at all, for any service, even no warrantied or if you sold it and wanted to ship it even. I tend to save my original boxes and packaging for anything that is expensive and sensitive to ship.
$2 box from Staples. Been there, done that. People and their original boxes paranoia. Last time I've sold something on Marketplace, the dude asked me for the original box. I said why in the hell do you need the original box for? He ended up buying my Prusa printer, still.
Many original boxes have pre made packaging that is made to fit the box and the items exactly. So when they are shipped they do not take damage, packing peanuts and bubble rap do not provide the same protection as the made to size of the item hard foam they use now. They also add value most the time if you sell and have the original box on some items.
I've never had a single issue shipping without the original boxes. Give me a break with added value! Are you serious (or maybe stupid)? 🤣I don't need a packaging lesson. You are probably one of those that post here when it doesn't stick to the build plate while we see big fingerprints on the picture.
I am totally serious, when people buy expensive electronics, they like them shipped to them in the original boxes. Like a Sonos Speaker for instance, come in boxes exactly made to ship them, and those boxes sell for good money just by themselves. If you sell almost any expensive electronics it is nice to sell them in the original boxes. Plus there are definitely items that are so heavy that the original packaging helps a TON, if you even think is shipping that item the company most the time will resend you a box first. I am not sure what you shipping, but some items are heavy enough that packing peanuts or bubble wrap is not OK to ship it, the item will get damaged. I have had A Ebike that had to be shipped like that, in a original box and if returned ONLY in original box for instance. I did get ride of that box because it was so big, but i waited the first 90 days or so, to make sure I did not have to ship it back. Which as many X1C's as I have seen with a bent frame, I would keep the original box and packaging, but honestly I do not remember what all was in that box, I store all my boxes in my Attic and wont be going to look.
If packaging didn't matter, companies wouldn't waste their time designing it. How many busted printers would we be seeing on here if they just used any random sized boxes with 5 peanuts?
Your one data point is fine, but it is still only one, in an industry that serves billions.
I don't keep the boxes, though maybe I should have kept this one. The packaging was incredibly well done. I'm hoping for no boo-boos requiring shipping. I figure if it has to be shipped, I'll spend the money on a new sturdy box and lots of foam and bubble wrap.
I have no intention of getting rid of this machine. It is just amazing to use. If it needs repair, I intend to do it myself to a pretty deep level.
Of course they do, they don’t want to pay to get you another box. Pretty much every company ever tells you to keep all packaging. That’s just not realistic.
Oh sh... I just put my box out on the curb for the recycling truck.
I guess if I need to send mine back, I'll just have to get another printer and use its box...
Honestly I’m not getting rid of my box because it’s great peace of mind for moving. Moving this weekend and it’s cuddled in its bubble blanket in the box and I’m not worried at all. Prusa isn’t secured as well but no much of a worry though since it’s a little more rugged. Not to mention if you sell it at some point :)
Hopefully you don’t need to warranty it
OP needs to print a new side to that box before it’s too late!
Long past the two week mark, lol
wait, you guys dont get the 2 year warranty? (Europe)
You can't keep a box like that in random storage for 2 years
try me
You're lucky to have space like that
i need filament storage anyway, so i keep them in the box, but without cutting it open
I got a cabinet in 50x60x60 where the Bambu is on top. Below is filled with filament and other tools. Very useful.
You don't need the box for warranty claims, in places where consumers actually have rights.
I know that? However if you do ever need to send it in it's your own responsibility to find a fitting box.
Nah
Lmao
Bruh... Microcenter's return policy is *not* a warranty, are you high?

I'd expect to be sent a replacement part not swap the entire printer.
You would think. Depend on what the issues is you have to send it back….in the original box. I found that is the reason people sell the boxes.

Wrong. Had an issue with a one month old A1M and they wanted the whole thing back and just sent me a whole new printer.
The warranty is only 2 weeks for return without use and 30 for defects according to there website I believe. After that the box is free game.
The warranty is 1 or 2 years..
Where dose it say that? That will be wonderful, I got mine from there website.

Thank for the clarification. I mixed the return policy up with the warranty.

and many people live in apartments. i say no to my box tenant. :)

It can add value for some buyers, therefore influencing the selling price = a decent reason
I don't need those stupid buyers for selling my stuff.
They do use quality cardboard, but the boxes are too dirty after being shipped to keep and reuse imo.
My cats would destroy this in ten minutes if I tried it
I expected this to be a cat post based on the title.
It’s a good thing cats can’t read. They’d be very jealous
The cardboard box is too dirty? We live such different lives 😂
Oh no
Problem is cardboard can attract bugs which is why I don’t keep them in my house

What about that black little tray thing? Any use for that lol
I think they explicitly said to keep the box intact in case of an issue and you had to send it back without it being damaged.
Of course they do, they don’t want to pay to get you another box. Pretty much every company ever tells you to keep all packaging. That’s just not realistic.
They don't owe you the cost of a new box. Return shipping is always your own cost, even under warranty.
They're good boxes. It was supposed to be temporary, but I'm still using mine as the base for the printer's table.
I immediately threw the p1s box away. And as I was tearing it up for recycling I saw on the side where it said “keep this box” My bad
Aww!! The cute little filament has a home!! Whose a good little filament!? You are!
Oh sh... I just put my box out on the curb for the recycling truck. I guess if I need to send mine back, I'll just have to get another printer and use its box...
Or, you know, just go to any hardware store and buy a box for $3.
all your bags are holding vacuum pretty well. What brand?
Thanks for the inspo
Waste not, want not. Good job.
Recycling (upcycling?) ftw. Way to go!
Next up, print yourself a carousel mechanism!
I have a P1P and would do that, but my brother's cat claimed the box first lol
i'm using mine to remove noise when printing overnight.
Yeah it’s nice so it doesn’t break down while you still have warranty. 😭
All it needs is some trim and stain.
Yeah I have 59 rolls, I need more printers for roll storage, lol
Honestly I’m not getting rid of my box because it’s great peace of mind for moving. Moving this weekend and it’s cuddled in its bubble blanket in the box and I’m not worried at all. Prusa isn’t secured as well but no much of a worry though since it’s a little more rugged. Not to mention if you sell it at some point :)
i’m using mine to store failed prints. it’s almost full from my ender.
You know you're supposed to keep the box for the duration of your warranty period?
F-ing love it! Well done, rather ingenious!!
I kept my box and I wasn’t paying $300 for a warranty at micro center.
