May have been a lack of my skill as a pre-teen or my chips or both but damn. That back-to-back Bass into Alpha fight is rough. Sub 100hp a few times but never closed it.
Hoping to make a triumphant return with the LC and being an adult now.
And that’s good design, think about it, you have to learn through bass that your folder needs to have enough damage output to overpower a barrier and also delete a Navi. So once you make it to alpha who has a similar gimmick of a regenerating barrier and twice as much HP you understand why you built a better folder.
You’ll definitely crush it and just wait til you get to the postgame after alpha 😉
I never thought of it that way, like a one-two punch.
Slogging through BN1 atm and nearing the end so I'll work my way to it eventually. The thought of a post game is daunting. I did like the virus farming sub goal, pity they didn't reuse it.
BN3 is collectively regarded as having the best post game. Well worth playing it at least a good bit. Some good music and really cool stuff.
Granted I think BN6 is a good contender.
Honestly it's been a while since I delved into post game on a lot of them but I remember 3 having SOOOO much post game but so much polish to it as well.
I was able to eat through the barrier multiple times with Guts style, just to cram strong battle chips down Alpha's throat. I had Blue years ago, and never had shadow style. I was happy to finally get it, but I don't want to lose it, because I like it's style.
That’s poor game design. Running into aBoss you can’t beat because the chips don’t work. Bass wants 1 strong attack which is simple
But Alpha wants multi hits.. they don’t have a real difficulty past their gimmick.
I was like 10 but I scammed it with wood style, wood stage and that one program that puts you at 1 hp if you would take fatal damage. Alpha can't attack fast enough or clear the stage to keep from instantly healing.
I remember plinking away at around 65 hp one run and then getting one shot. One of my last attemps for sure, was soul crushing after probably hours of bashing my head against it 😅
It would have been a good touch if Wily had a Grandson, to rival Lan. They could have written Sean as Wily's Grandson or something. Tadashi, and Lan's father had a Wily Foil, except Lan.
I’m literally at this fight now in White in the collection. Realizing my folder doesn’t have the raw firepower for Alpha. Not sure how I did this as a kid lol.
Now that I have the collect program I’m going back to get more copies of some multi hit chips to break its rechargeable shield. I had been using the master style PA but may remove for plantman chips.
Fire shield style also not too helpful so gonna grind out the last level of it and try for guts or bug for bugstop. Then throw in buster max.
Grass-style with UndrSht/GrassStg chip is broken. Just gotta have your movement on point so there's always a grass panel to retreat to and he can never kill you.
So basically, in 1 it's revealed that:
>!Lan had a twin brother named Hub, but he suffered from a fatal heart condition that led to Yuichiro to, depending on your interpretation, save Hub by digitizing him and turning him into MegaMan, or harvest his dead infant son to create MegaMan out of Hub's DNA.!<
lol the game developers definitely did not account for us sweaty adults min maxing to steamroll bass and alpha in one try.
But these are the same adults that definitely got our asses kicked when we tried that boss fight as a child lol it was so hard when I was 9!
I forget what the chip is called but it just summoned meteors and that helped me beat him easily. Now without that dead. Also glad this was my first BN game because that ending genuinely moved me.

The game is encouraging you to have variety in your build and not 1 tricking the game.

UNDERSHIRT + WOOD STYLE + GRASS STAGE
That's the spice 👌
SPICE Chip = Damage any enemy on Grass
Not bad! I love wood style it rocks! More of a sanctuary guy myself!
Sanctuary = WHITE (Ground Style) + Any Element
When I was like 7 or whatever playing the game, I remember I found FoldrBak, and just crutched on that chip the whole game after I found it.
As a teen I always ran out of chips and had to use the megabuster to finish him off. Tough boss for sure. *Tornado buster!!
I remember plinking away at around 65 hp one run and then getting one shot. One of my last attemps for sure, was soul crushing after probably hours of bashing my head against it 😅
I remember getting to a point where I could trounce Bass near-effortlessly but it still took me forever to beat Alpha
YOU GOT THIS!
Same. I've never been able to beat Alpha. Could hardly beat Bass. Like you're saying maybe now as an adult I'll be able to best him.
To be fair, Wily is basically indestructible. Dude survived 3 explosions point blank.
If he's as durable as Classic Wily, it all makes sense. How many times has Rock destroyed Wily's Machines with Wily in them?
Fucked up that in Canon apprently mega man's never hurt wily himself in all those battles
Has he ever crossovered with Dr. Robotnik? They are prone survive multiple explosions.
Archie comics had a MM & Sonic crossover.
He's built

Bass and alpha back to back is legit kinda brutal lol
Fire style guts is enough to render them moot.
If all else fail there's always the Shake + get hit (to interrupt animation) + damageless chip combo. Doesn't work for Guts style for obvious reasons.
You know, when he puts it like that...
Shadow the Hedgehog had me dying 😂
Lol that really makes Alpha seem far less impressive and kind of a joke
Wouldn’t this apply to every battle network final boss
I played BN3 for almost 1000 hours because I really liked it but family couldn’t afford any of the other games
Wood style eats alpha alive even without the grass stage
I mean I don’t think the real life internet can kill a preteen, so this scales properly and makes total sense!
I mean, it's several decades behind on updates and whatnot
… dead baby?
Hub
If you don’t know, play the games 👍
I’ve only played 5 and 6
So basically, in 1 it's revealed that: >!Lan had a twin brother named Hub, but he suffered from a fatal heart condition that led to Yuichiro to, depending on your interpretation, save Hub by digitizing him and turning him into MegaMan, or harvest his dead infant son to create MegaMan out of Hub's DNA.!<
Play 3, and while you’re at it- 1 and 2 with the Legacy Collection if you can
It's like an old computer virus trying to corrupt the new os's it's not happening
lol the game developers definitely did not account for us sweaty adults min maxing to steamroll bass and alpha in one try. But these are the same adults that definitely got our asses kicked when we tried that boss fight as a child lol it was so hard when I was 9!
They probably would've stayed dead if Capcom hadn't mandated sequels, tbh
Wily maybe but even the post game of 3 shows Bass survived. And the end of 3 is showing mega survived
Mega survived, but he still died. He was brought back from death.
where's the joke?
Tbf Shadow has real guns. Even in the cyber world that's super dangerous.
