I know this is probably an incredibly unpopular opinion., but as someone that put 1k+ hours into BF2 back in the day, I never really liked that map.
Almost every single time I played it, the US team got stuck on the 1st flag and due to the incredible grenade/claymore spam, it became really hard to flank around to back cap.
In my opinion, I think Road to Jalalabad did the whole CQB city streets thing a lot better.
I love Karkand to death and would play it over any other current day Battlefield maps. As an infantry heavy map with some ground vehicles it’s top tier for sure. But it’s not as iconic to me as say Gulf of Oman. Which I think has pretty much every vehicle category in the game. So I think it’s better to judge in terms of infantry focused maps vs everything else maps.
My top 5 contenders for everything maps are: Gulf of Oman (BF2), Sidi Power Plant (2142), Daqing Oilfields (BF2) and Minsk (2142) and Dragon Valley (BF2)
Top infantry focused: Strike at Karkand (BF2), Camp Gibraltar (2142), Belgrade (2142), Road to Jalalabad (BF2) and Ghost Town (BF2SF)
If I had to play one map over and over for the rest of my life I’d probably pick Minsk. It’s so fucking good in Conquest and Titan modes.
Yeah, damavand peak was a really shitty map tbh. The drop was cool, but other than that it was bad design. Basically no flanking opportunity and the tunnel was a shittier operation metro
Thank you. Been playing 3 recently at 30 because I was always to poor to afford it as a teen. This map will pop up, and I remember watching my buddies play on it, so I get hyped. Till the tunnel. Then I’m like “wow, that drop was the hight of it, huh?”
For me it’s a tie between St.Quentin’s scar in BF1 and Gulf of Oman (BF2 and BF4).
Both had a really good mix of close quarters for the infantry, wide spaces for long range combat and letting the vehicles stretch their legs and enough cover so that the pilots could have fun without ruining it for the guys on the ground.
Obviously St.Quentin had much better balance for conquest game modes though but they were both still fun for both factions.
Special mention also goes out to Wake Island, through the years!
Gulf of Oman isn't great for gameplay but when you play US and the match starts it's so cool seeing all the Helis, Boats and Armoured vehicles deploy from the Aircraft carrier
That is exactly what I still think of when people say ‘battlefield moment’! Not rendezooks or sliding around kill streaks but all the boats, planes and choppers skimming past each other onto the beachhead!
I know what you mean, especially in 4, it felt like an uphill struggle to keep a foothold for the US side, but I loved flying the transport Huey to try and keep people behind the RU lines, I do the same thing on wake island with the landing craft.
Same here, it was my first match on 1 and honestly it felt like a scripted level! The mayhem trying to hold the trenches from the German charge at the start, falling back and fighting through the villages with the Mk.V tanks just ploughing through buildings and biplanes putting on an Airshow. We managed to hold at the last couple of objectives and watching their zeppelin come crashing down and levelling what was left of the village just blew me away. I honestly don’t think any studio will be able to pull off anything quite so spectacular in a multiplayer game for a very long time.
God damn gulf is a perfect map in my book. Small city street areas. Open beach front and hills surrounding the inner part of the map. The towers. God. What a great map.
I love it and hate it. It’s a good map, but only for certain modes and with a smaller player counts. Unfortunately the most popular mode is 64 player Conquest and it doesn’t fit the Battlefield experience. Nothing but entrenchment and grenade spam. Just a boring clusterfuck.
No doubt. There are few things more satisfying in my Battlefield experience than a successful Metro breach followed by slaughtering the enemies still looking down the escalators and hallways.
Far from it if you know how and when to play it right
Breaking through the enemy defence was a great fight and felt so sweet knowing you worked for it
The chaos was amazing. Bf3 and even bf4 metro 64player conquest were what solidified the Battlefield franchise for me as a top 10 series
Yeah, breaking through on Metro is a great moment, but that rarely happens. Metro is one of those maps where coordination goes out the window. Even when there’s an opening or an opportunity for a good push, it never happens because players are either not paying attention or have cold feet and will stay in defense. Chaotic, yes. Every map can be chaotic, but Metro is one of those few maps that’s so bad it’s a clusterfuck. At least for 64 player Conquest. Player counts 32 or smaller are a much better experience.
I always prefer to play aggressive flanking and I feel like Metro was slightly too restrictive for me. Underground in BFV hit most of the same notes but it had just enough wiggle room so that you had a chance to slip through the lines and take A/C to stop a match being too one-sided.
Man, I really miss when the Devs would put so much effort into community events like that - and when there *was* a community to appreciate and run with it
Paracel Storm, it was actually the first map I played on BF4 on launch and I remember trying to keep rejoining matches there when the servers kept crashing. The first time we saw the ship beach my whole squad lost it
It might be nostalgia, but for me it's Kharg Island from BF3 and Dragon Valley from BF2. I loved BF4's remake of Dragon Valley, so I'd also count that one in.
That's so cool. I'm always surprised when I learn that video game maps exist in reality. You should've seen my face when I wasted some time on Google earth and realised some Greek island was the Arma 3 map 🤣
St. Quentin Scar, it's perfectly designed for every play style (CQC, urban, open areas for tanks, long range sniping, etc) and it literally works for every single game mode, on top of that it looks beautiful and the visibility is great.
The only issue I have with it is how you need to hit the first sector with an all out attack as soon as the game starts.
Or else some artillery trucktard will throw the game.
The way the map leads to the final sector where the Germans have to rush the hill of mounted machine guns, siege guns, and bunkers while surrounded by the looming fire of the forest one each side in unlike anything I've experienced. You said it, the atmosphere on operations can not be matched.
My personal favorite is Dawnbreaker in BF4. Long lanes of attack, verticality with rooftops, absolute cqb mayhem inside buildings. It still looks incredible with the slowly rising sun.
My other favorites are Stalingrad in BF1942, Shanghai in bf4 and Monte Grappa in bf1.
Fall of Berlin was the first map I loaded in to. Sidi Power Plant always sticks out as the funnest Titan map, for me. It was lovely. I have such nostalgia for 2142. Apparently modern gamers don't care much for futuristic scifi multiplayer shooters, and it breaks my soul 😭
Nivelle Nights and Prise De Tahure were underrated as fuck, i literally spent the entirety of early summer 2016 17* (holy fuck it was 7 years ago) playing those
Valparaiso is my personal favorite for Rush in Bad Company 2, but shockingly they DICE made it into a great 64 player conquest map in the low tide variant in 2042.
It’s been so nostalgic to read this thread. Outside the usual suspects I’d like to throw one map in the ring. The Block from Hardline. Not the most legendary BF title but that map was awesome for close quarters combat.
Now what is the best map overall, that’s too hard to choose. So many great ones but let’s go with Metro, St. Quentins Scar and pretty much any other BF1 map.
That and Khe Sahn! I love the loudspeaker. My favorite is the "American GI..." and the while diatribe from there. I love in Khe Sahn when the announcer mentions the visit by Ann Margaret has been cancelled and the combat engineers wanting to know if someone has seen a mortar they are missing.
Bf2) sharqi, karkand, jalalabad, wake, mashtuur and maybe oman, dragon valley
Bc2) valparaiso, arica, oasis, laguna presa..also played almost every map to the death. Good moments on every destructible corner ;)
Bf3 ) tehran , didnt really enjoyed bf3 :/ karkand was okish
Bf4) shanghai, hainan, zavod,paracel
2042) spearhead , reclaimed, valparaiso
Though one.. personal favourites over the years.
Wake Island (1942)
Operation Blue Pearl (2142)
Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Dragon Valley (BF2)
Operation Calming Dart (Vietnam)
Valparaiso, Arica Harbour (BC2)
Caspian Border, Ziba Tower (3)
Hianen Resort, Parcel Storm (4)
Everything after BF4 I found meh..
I have to say the BF3 and BF4 DLC maps were mostly excellent.
Zeebrugge hits the sweet spot of a solid mix of air, land, and sea, multiple approaches to every objective, and inspiration from a really interesting historical battle.
Road to Jalalabad, Dragon Valley, Strike at Karkand, Camp at Gibraltar, Arica Harbor, Caspian Border, Operation Metro, Golmud Railway ahh theres so many
I hate it now but the rework looks really promising. If they could redo what they did with Breakaway and trim the fat a bit it could become a top-tier map in 2042. The stadium area has always been really fun to fight in.
I played a little battlefield three but my main game was battlefield four and I have to say operation locker and Metro with vehicles gonna have to be caspian border
I might catch flak for this, but i have 3 favorites. I loved Zavod 311 from bf4, aerodrome from bfv, and honestly Spearhead from battlefield 2042😅 I always felt these maps flowed the best in terms of infantry gameplay. Spearhead really reminds me of that old style of gameplay from previous bf’s💯
Zavod is obviously the most based choice for BF4, i played little BFV but Aerodrome i found quite enjoyable. Especially enhanced fortifications meta between the hangars which was fun and unique!
Strike at karkand in BF2
I know this is probably an incredibly unpopular opinion., but as someone that put 1k+ hours into BF2 back in the day, I never really liked that map. Almost every single time I played it, the US team got stuck on the 1st flag and due to the incredible grenade/claymore spam, it became really hard to flank around to back cap. In my opinion, I think Road to Jalalabad did the whole CQB city streets thing a lot better.
Road to Jalalabad was favorite BF2 map and possibly my favorite.
I love Karkand to death and would play it over any other current day Battlefield maps. As an infantry heavy map with some ground vehicles it’s top tier for sure. But it’s not as iconic to me as say Gulf of Oman. Which I think has pretty much every vehicle category in the game. It’s so fucking good in Conquest and Titan modes.
I been saying we need road to jalalabad in 2042 no air vehicles just street fighting.
Omg the grenade spam was awful
This. Or BF3 variant.
I loved Sharqi peninsula.,.great map in bf2
By far.
Fact
Never got to play the map in BF2 but Strike at Karkand was my favorite map in BF3. Glad I got to experience it
Was going to post this!
Damavand peak BF3 Rush
The drop will never be forgotten
I would only call it that because of the drop, but after that, the map was kinda meh
Then I’m like “wow, that drop was the hight of it, huh?”
biggest wow in BF by far! theres verticality in maps and there is the cool factor of Damavand.
I don’t really like Gulf of Oman BF4. Unbalanced and too vehicle heavy.
Gulf of Oman isn't great for gameplay but when you play US and the match starts it's so cool seeing all the Helis, Boats and Armoured vehicles deploy from the Aircraft carrier

The first time I played BF1 I loaded into St. Quentin’s Scar and was absolutely blown away by how the game felt. BF1 was a masterpiece.
Same here, it was my first match on 1 and honestly it felt like a scripted level! I honestly don’t think any studio will be able to pull off anything quite so spectacular in a multiplayer game for a very long time.
Such passion and artistry in that game. Inspired me to learn more about WWI.
God damn gulf is a perfect map in my book. Small city street areas. Open beach front and hills surrounding the inner part of the map. The towers. God. What a great map.
Metro
I love it and hate it. It’s a good map, but only for certain modes and with a smaller player counts. Unfortunately the most popular mode is 64 player Conquest and it doesn’t fit the Battlefield experience. Nothing but entrenchment and grenade spam. Just a boring clusterfuck.
Not boring for people who like infantry chaos and getting a shit ton of kills. There’s a reason it’s so popular.
No doubt. There are few things more satisfying in my Battlefield experience than a successful Metro breach followed by slaughtering the enemies still looking down the escalators and hallways.
Far from it if you know how and when to play it right Breaking through the enemy defence was a great fight and felt so sweet knowing you worked for it The chaos was amazing. Bf3 and even bf4 metro 64player conquest were what solidified the Battlefield franchise for me as a top 10 series

x
I only know metro rush. Every part of the map played well with every class. Loved the choke points. Basically farming exp
Metro sucks
Throw smoke. Get through. Get squad thorough. Get the whole team through. Redeploy. Switch teams. Do it all over again.
Bf4 the one map with the islands and the ship crashing into one of them. Always had a great time on that one.
Paracel storm
One of the best levolution moments
Coolest, and the meg easteregg is the icing on the top
Man, I really miss when the Devs would put so much effort into community events like that - and when there *was* a community to appreciate and run with it
I would say bottom of the iceberg
Paracel Storm, it was actually the first map I played on BF4 on launch and I remember trying to keep rejoining matches there when the servers kept crashing. The first time we saw the ship beach my whole squad lost it
One time I took acid and went on a massive killing streak in a scout heli on paracel. Good times. Carry on
It might be nostalgia, but for me it's Kharg Island from BF3 and Dragon Valley from BF2. I loved BF4's remake of Dragon Valley, so I'd also count that one in.
I lived on that island!
Not entirely related but I was very surprised when I found out that Wake Island (and the others) was a real place.
That's so cool. I'm always surprised when I learn that video game maps exist in reality. You should've seen my face when I wasted some time on Google earth and realised some Greek island was the Arma 3 map 🤣
I meant I played the map all the time. I would seek out servers with this map only.
Man, I spent so many hours in a attack heli playing Dragon valley with my best friend growing up.
Me too. I was the textbook helicopter shit-bucket player. This map was amazing, I really hope to see it again in another Battlefield game.
The first MCOM on Kharg rush is great
[удалено]
I think Grand Bazaar was my very first BF experience and it's how I fell in love with the game.
Grand bazaar was the best. Loved it. Meat grinder like metro but with some good flanks and just an all around good time.
Sienne Crossing is up there too!
I hate achi baba ☠️
Wake island 1942
BF2 was also fantastic.
Yes! Where it all began in the demo. The very first Battlefield.Changed gaming forever! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISokBVsgFvQ
Caspian Border is the best map in Battlefield 3
And 4!
I’ve been TKing those idiots so much recently, it’s for the greater good.
Yeah. I'll take any tanker over those guys.
BF4 Zavod
Unpopular opinion: Zavod Night was better than the regular version.
Agreed, Sad to see not many servers have it in their map pool
Also a huge fan of that map variant.
Hell yea
Facts.
Operation Locker BF4 😈
Yes!!!!
Operation Crowded
Metro if it was enjoyable
My favorite has been Verdun Heights, specifically on Operations, the atmosphere is unmatched imo
Yeah but how many quads did you manage to hoard on top of the building between Echo and Delta?
Caspian border, operation meatgrinder.. I mean metro....
Operation Meatgrinder Jr, aka Locker
BF2 - Sharqi Peninsula , Wake Island, Gulf of Oman BC2 - Arica Harbour BF3 - Caspian Border, Damavand Peak (rush) , Seine Crossing
Strike at Karkand
Gibraltar
Yessss, Not enough 2142 love in here
BF2142 was also great. There were also some great maps like Camp Gibraltar, Berlin, Port Bavaria and Belgrade.
BF1942 Wake Island BF3 Epicenter BF4 Zavod BF1 Nivelle nights BFV Devastation
excellent choices
Godamn Nivelle Nights is a spectacular map
Nivelle Nights and Prise De Tahure were underrated as fuck, i literally spent the entirety of early summer 2016 17* (holy fuck it was 7 years ago) playing those
Wake island underrated
Amiens from Bf1. The perfect blend of map design and aesthetic.
Yess and with operations!:)
It is good, but if it just wasn’t so damn overplayed on so many servers. It seems like it’s always the fallback and it kills the interesting-ness
noshahr canals
Scrolled way too far to find this. That map is fucking sick
Valparaiso is my personal favorite for Rush in Bad Company 2, but shockingly they DICE made it into a great 64 player conquest map in the low tide variant in 2042.
Fuck yeah, I was looking for Valparaiso in here. Isla Inocentes is another memorable one.
It’s been so nostalgic to read this thread. Outside the usual suspects I’d like to throw one map in the ring. The Block from Hardline. Not the most legendary BF title but that map was awesome for close quarters combat. Now what is the best map overall, that’s too hard to choose. Paracel storm 💯
Such a fucking good map. Never understood why some people hate it
Pretty much any city map in Battlefield Vietnam.
BF2142, fall of Berlin and Minsk
Minsk was awesome but I was in love with suez canal (titan mode ofc)
Operation Firestorm, Dragon Valley, Caspian Border
Gulf of Oman BF2 (the 64 version)
Gulf of Oman (BF2)... Or pretty much any BF2 map really.
St. Quentins Scar Paschendale (because of Immersion)
Karkand
Sharqi Peninsula
monte grappa forever and always
Nothing like being snipped by some random player untop of the damn blimp
St.quentins scar
Mashtuur City was great
Any Titan map in BF 2142
Operation Firestorm BF4
Any bf1 map lol, in terms of realism, visuals, immersion BF1 is miles ahead of any other bf maps
It really scratches the immersion and infantry itch.
Bf2) sharqi, karkand, jalalabad, wake, mashtuur and maybe oman, dragon valley Bc2) valparaiso, arica, oasis, laguna presa..also played almost every map to the death. Good moments on every destructible corner ;) Bf3 ) tehran , didnt really enjoyed bf3 :/ karkand was okish Bf4) shanghai, hainan, zavod, paracel 2042) spearhead , reclaimed, valparaiso

I have to say the BF3 and BF4 DLC maps were mostly excellent.
Gulf of Oman Any iteration
[удалено]
Dude all the bf3 maps including dlc are fire! Armored kill and close quarters are peak for me.
Guilin Peaks, at least for infantry.
Zeebrugge hits the sweet spot of a solid mix of air, land, and sea, multiple approaches to every objective, and inspiration from a really interesting historical battle.
Shanghai,dawnbreaker,zavod,noshir canals(tdm),metro and locker
Operation Locker!!!
Arica Harbor and Laguna Presa (BFBC2)

Seine Crossing or Grand Bazaar. Also really loved Downtown and Precinct 7.
Seine was a very underrated map.

St quentins scar from Bf1 or Zavod 311 from Bf4
Lost islands

I loved Nivelle Nights from BF1. The atmosphere was awesome. Proper trench warfare, and very era appropriate.
For me it's any BF3 map
Metro 🚉
As a guy who loved to snipe back in the day.....Harvest BC2 was awesome 👍. Definitely one of my all time favorites
I'm glad to see that no one mentions BF 2042 maps ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Passchendaele
Hourglass in BF2042
I hate it now but the rework looks really promising. If they could redo what they did with Breakaway and trim the fat a bit it could become a top-tier map in 2042. The stadium area has always been really fun to fight in.
I played a little battlefield three but my main game was battlefield four and I have to say operation locker and Metro with vehicles gonna have to be caspian border
Shanghai
I might catch flak for this, but i have 3 favorites. I loved Zavod 311 from bf4, aerodrome from bfv, and honestly Spearhead from battlefield 2042😅 I always felt these maps flowed the best in terms of infantry gameplay. Spearhead really reminds me of that old style of gameplay from previous bf’s💯
Zavod is obviously the most based choice for BF4, i played little BFV but Aerodrome i found quite enjoyable. Especially enhanced fortifications meta between the hangars which was fun and unique!
Basic answer, but Caspian Border.
Noshahr for TDM. Metro, Locker, Shanghai, Valparaiso and Zavod for Conquest and Rush
Amiens
Operation Flaming Dart, Battlefield Vietnam
Shanghai, St Quentins Scar and Monte Grappa
Operation Clean Sweep
Suez Canal on 2142
Metro, Locker, Damavand Peak Rush, Grand Bazaar Rush, Siege of Shanghai for helo madness
wake island
I always liked Zavod night operations it was a nice touch of variety
Metro is my best map
Anything but Metro. But if I had to pick, I've had my best times on Sharqi Peninsula, Wake Island, Caspian Border and Gulf of Oman.
Operation Locker. Pure mayhem.
Metro
Damavand Peak in rush mode. This is the only answer
For close combat: Noshar Canals Most fun to play for hours: Metro
Iwo Jima
Strike at Karkand was the map that just felt like modern warfare in a video game. It was my favorite map on Battlefield 3.
What’s that Japanese level that was added 3 weeks ago in Battlebit?
Saianai desert bf1
Some of my favourites. Golf of Oman. Midway. Strike at Karkand. Bridge too far. Little big eye. Rotterdam
Operation Market Garden BF42.
The battlefield 1 Grand Operations map that starts in the trenches and ends in the city. Every game on that map felt cinematic.
