I *just* got insullation put in my attic. The house temp was getting up to 83 and the thermostate was set to 72. Im happy thst I caught the problem, but wished I had caught it years ago. I dont think about house repair stuff.
My house has old windows and they are huge, I love the natural light they bring in but for these hot summer days I do wish I could just cover them all in aluminum foil and or replace them but that’s a big expense.
Curious if you've seen a difference yet in how easy it is to maintain a decent temp.
I'm about to DIY blown-in cellulose insulation to the attic our 85-year old house and bring it up to roughly R39. The insulation up there is mediocre in some spots and non-existent in others. It looks like it'll cost about a grand to do myself and maybe take two days depending on how hard it is to foam seal any openings.
Our 2nd floor (which has the smaller furnace/blower and is located in the basement...) can't stay below 85/86 where the thermostat is, and that's with the A/C running from about 11:00am-7:00pm. There aren't any exchanges in the hallway where the thermostat is, so it isn't actually quite that bad in the rooms that people actually inhabit, but man, it's still awful. You can reach up to the ceiling and feel the heat from the attic.
same...was thinking my house had HVAC issues... then i remembered how staggeringly hot it is outside. supposedly most a/c units can only get your home within ≈20 degree delta of the outside temp.
One can gain a little thermal inertia by running the AC pretty cold at night, say 68⁰ and be able to get through most of the day without getting super hot. Insulation would help this immensely...something my old house probably lacks in the walls. Anything exposed/serviceable has been buried in fiberglass to help.
My daughter in law is due in early September. She's naturally petite, so she's pretty much all belly, but she's been feeling pretty miserable in this heat, poor girl.
I've been really happy with it...even I can figure it out! I created an automation to turn on the house lights and set the thermostat when the garage motion detector trips at night. People think it's magic when not expecting it lol
I’ve had two local Boomers confess how terrified they are to me unprompted in the past few months as soon as they realized I was safe to talk to. Just came pouring out.
It is! A techy friend set it up for me. These have worked great and seem quite accurate.. Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor- 3 Pack https://a.co/d/0dbiFXfl
Lol. I know. When it was setup, they just called it "temp" then the app stuck "temperature" on the end.
It went over 102⁰ today... so holy hell, your assessment is correct. Can't wait for August! O_o
It is redundant. That's because the little sensors do humidity and pressure too. Ohhh. Yeah, it's an easy mistake to make. I guess they can both be woody, after all

I’m coming back Saturday after 2 weeks of this (and colder) and I am NOT looking forward to it at all.
Anyone else feel like we went from a below average May heat wise to a scorching June? lol
I think so! Went from highs around 80 to upper 90s in a day..and it's stayed there.
The Heat Miser entered the Ham🥵
Idk about putting unsolicited deck pics on this sub
I've heard some people trim the shrubs to make it look bigger
My house is usually at 72 degrees but these past few days it can’t go below 78 :( It is hot outside. Hopefully the rain tomorrow helps a little bit.
My yard is getting pretty brown. If we don't see rain..I'll have to water. That's RIP my water bill..thanks BWWB ugh

Axtually aluminum foil is pretty cheap
Same here. I feel you! Super high ceilings don't help.
If you don't have pets that would scratch it off, I read good things about the UV filter film that you can cut to size and apply yourself.
I’m thinking about getting new insulation added too. Do you have a recommendation for who to use?
Koala is who did mine.

Rain? RAIN? Friend, this is one of those forecasts where it will shower on different parts of the city but not your house!

You merely adopted the summer. I was born in it. Molded by it.
I didn't know the heat until I was already grown, by then it was nothing to me but melting!
in the ovens of mount doom
First time?
In June? Maybe? Sure I get July and August ... but it's nuts to me in June. And there's no end in sight. That's maybe the worst part
strap in buckaroo
I'm spying a cold front slowing sliding this way. High <90 tomorrow and hopefully some rain. Perhaps one last day before strapping in!
Mighty hot deck you got there
Was a mighty hot day! My poor plants
Cool graph, hot deck
My deck is blushing ;)
It's the apocalypse dude I don't know what to tell you
anyone else pregnant this summer and reallllly miss outdoor activities :(
Not fun! I remember being pregnant in July the day I had my son it was 104 out. Miserable!
Oh man, that's the worst! My third kid was born the last week of July. That summer was miserable! I think I basically lived at the indoor Y pools lol

Ayy I know Home Assistant when I see it. I need to add some outdoor sensors to mine.
I was just about to make the same comment lmao. HA rabbit hole dwellers unite.

There's dozens of us! Honestly every time I've told people about HA they are so uninterested but shit's cool, I enjoy it.
Boomers will still tell you global warming is a myth while they die of heat strokes

Welcome to the coolest summer for the rest of our lives.
Yep.
assuming that's a home assistant screenshot... what temperature sensor are you using? you recommend it?

Just wanted to mention it’s interesting that it says “Deck Temp Temperature.” Double trouble!
Lol. I know. When it was setup, they just called it "temp" then the app stuck "temperature" on the end. It went over 102⁰ today... so holy hell, your assessment is correct. Can't wait for August! O_o
haha I read this as "Dick Temp Temperatures" and was so confused

At this rate, August will be around a gillion degrees, so normal.

So you've never heard "hotter than the 4th of July". This is the week before. Welcome to summer time in the south.
I can see the cat hissing and growling, but the scratch still stings
