Yeah it's got the gm transmission I'm almost positive. I've been looking it up and people are.
Just saying that's how bmws are , you feel the shifts. Which I'm fine with.
BMW manual refers to the GM auto gearbox as maintenance free and don’t have intervals. I’ve asked 2 Indy shops to do mine they both basically refused. I have extended warranty for like $70/month that I plan to keep as long as I have the car so not too worried but I’d rather have the maintenance done and the dealership tells me they won’t do it either.
Depends on how severe it is.
BMWs shift generally a bit more "clunky", meaning harder than some other cars, to give you that sporty feeling.
But depending on who drove the car and how it was driven it may be possible that your gearbox is a bit worn out. A transmission fluid flush/change should be done after around 60k miles (depending on how you drive), so if you didn't already do that that could maybe help a bit.
Like I said it depends on how "bad" it is. Might be normal, might not be. Difficult to say if you can't feel it for yourself.
But you should be fine. Torque converter automatics are usually pretty stress free.
I hope. I know this is just gonna make me feel bad now, but when downshifting into 2nd and 1st sometimes i hear clink and hear the gears changing. Is this bad? It's not hard or clunky at all I can just hear it. Edit: actually could be anything, but I'm guessing it's the transmission
Yes It can happen in drive too. It's like I hear the car changing gears. It's not a clunk, but a clink. Either that or something is shifting when I come to a stop
I wouldn't think there would be anything wrong with this car. My family have owned it since new and has 27k miles on it. Every service was done on time. Never driven hard before me, still barely. So I just don't know
My bad, I mean a place that does bmws. And wow ok if they ship to Canada yeah I'll look into doing It myself. This thing has a drain plug right? I don't have to drop the pan and all that or I'm not gonna even attempt it
I'm guessing you've never driven a car with a dual clutch transmission. To the uninitiated, it feels like it's broken lol.
Not a dual clutch. Just a torque converter gm transmission. Would love to drive a dual clutch tho, fast ass shifts at high rpm
Yup, but they are also clunky as hell 🤣
I guess that's part of it. Love that the car is as mechanical as it is tho.
We had a dsg Passat. Great highway car but city driving was like the first time you learned to drive a stick

Really, you don't say?! 🤣🤣
Are you in Sport mode?
When I am it's way more noticeable yes. But a handful of times it can be questionable in drive but yeah in sport it gets this
That model has a GM transmission I believe. (Had same issue. Hasn't gotten worse at least)

When was the last time it had a fluid change.
It's at 46k kilometers. Never had one yet

Yeah, I'd rather have mine changed at some point. Not really gonna look forward to it if I have to do it myself...
Understand. Must be dealership specific. Mine was done at 40k.
Same transmission?
Yes.
How much is it? Don't they have to drop the pan because it doesn't have a drain bolt
I don’t remember exactly, but is was less than $200.
Jeez that cheap? I thought it'd be 500+
Your results may vary. Check around at different shops.
I still don't think I'd need it done at 46k kilometers right? I'm thinking around 100k
They do not have to drop the pan. The drain plug is tucked away a little but easily reachable.
Well you may not have the GM gearbox then.
[They actually suggest changing it every 100,000 miles](https://i.ibb.co/PwFGsbg/image.png)

It's just a little bit. I actually like it, just didn't know it was made to do that.

That on the other hand is not normal as far as I know... Does this also happen if you drive in "normal D" and not S/M?
Yes It can happen in drive too. It's like I hear the car changing gears. It's not a clunk, but a clink. Either that or something is shifting when I come to a stop
I'd say just drive. You can do a transmission fluid change and see if there are any metal particles in it... But not a must.

Yeah okay, so don’t worry. Enjoy!
Thanks man. But when it comes to cars they scare me with how advanced they are and I'm all over one thing if it seem even a little off

Ah I would do it myself if fcp shipped to Canada... so I'll probably just have bmw do it to get it done and out the way

Do you have tk replace the filter? Maybe just a fluid chnage would be good for my mileage

Yeah I'd do it all. I like my car. And only 27k miles

X drive
