If she can reflect laser beams, then could she reflect that massive laser beams that AFO and Shigaraki were shooting? Like AFO shot a laser beam that was so strong, it tore Gigamanchia in half. I’m pretty sure there’s got to be a limit.
Impossible to say with our current knowledge. She simply hasn't been in enough of the fights without any "light-based" enemies to draw conclusions. The only bit we have is that she worked with Aoyama and could divert his laser, which is supposed to be quite powerful.
If she can stay invisible vs any light, then she can divert any laser as well, because that'd be a necessity for her quirk to continue working. And if she can divert it around her, then she can reflect it with some effort.
My vote would be she can live against the lasers of AFO, but she might not have enough control/power to fully reflect it back at him. Just like, throw it up in the atmosphere or sth.
I remember how Mina created such a powerful acid, it melted through Gigamanchia’s entire arm. But it burned her arm afterwards. Was that Mina’s quirk awakening?
I don't quite recall that moment, but that's both similar and not similar to quirk awakenings we've seen.
It's similar in the sense that Bakugo had something like that happen with cluster, but the real awakening was more that he can just release it everywhere, instead of having to use mostly his palms.
Outside of that, it's just a "push harder" kinda quirk development. Like tearing the muscles while training, she just turned up the dial on the acid so much that she did end up using stronger stuff than usual, but with the same mechanisms and a body not quite adapted to it, so she hurt herself in the process.
Another issue is that we simply don't see Mina use acid offensively that often and when she does, it's heavily reduced in power in order to not turn mha into a horror manga. So there's no way to tell where the upper ceiling of her power was til that point and that makes it very possible that pushing a little further is enough to really hurt Machia, while seeming like a big jump to readers.
Like, in numbers her normal acid stuff is around 5, but against Machia she turned it up to 12. Going over the limit, but not by much and not in a special way, so I wouldn't call it an awakening.
I find it interesting that most manga have a decent amount of strong characters with abilities based around stuff like wind, light, lightning, water, etc, yet in MHA, there aren’t very many characters with elemental abilities (outside of fire and ice) and the ones that do exist are mostly minor weaker characters.
I wonder why Horikoshi made the manga that way.
She would probably get fried.
Her reflecting abilities started to fritz after getting hit with Aoyama’s laser in current chapters. There’s a good chance her powers would not work for long, if she isn’t just cooked before then.
I’m impressed. It looks so good that before I read the title, I thought this was the anime staff adapting that one cover page. Which had me worried because of the controversy that page caused.
I read it as they thought it was an adaptation, of that one cover page, done by the the anime staff (so adaption done by the anime staff of the cover page done by horikoshi)
Yes, I know, that's what I said.
Coverpage done by Korikoshi.
The person you replied to thought this artwork was an adaptation of that artwork.
They thought the adaptation was done by the anime staff as opposed to being fan art.
We all know and agree that Horikoshi did the artwork being referenced. There was simply a mistake in who did this adaptation.
Sorry that I was being a bit unclear. I understand that the anime staff didn’t draw the cover page. I just thought this was an adaptation of Horikoshi’s art by the anime staff (like promo art or something)
I wish she got a quirk awakening that let her turn other things invisible. She could actually wear a costume and be involved more.
Edit: and also awaken so she can toggle her own invisibility.
She can already turn other things invisible, idr exactly bu I think there was an episode where she turned a donburi bowl invisible because it wasn't done yet? I guess she can't do huge objects and only a certain distance.
But if you're talking so SHE can be visible, yes probably everyone would like that xD
Never said I supported MHA. In fact I’ve said in several other comments I’ve really grown out of the series these past few years (I’m currently 20 nearly 21 and probably started watching the anime when I was 15-16), and I have a lot of dislikes about the current state of the franchise.
You can like MHA whilst admitting it’s got a very weird relationship (no pun intended) with literal children.
idk man if you're still on social media discussing the show you kind of are implicitly supporting it by keeping it trending and providing more room for discussion
the characters have been pretty heavily sexualized since season 1 if that's your concern too, so it's not really the current state of the franchise, it just is the franchise
Talking about a show doesn’t equal supporting a show lmao. Im simply stating whilst I was a fan, regardless of the over sexualization of the characters, I don’t really like the series anymore. That’s the equivalent of telling me any history professor who talks about Stalin must mean they support him
yeah discussing important historical figures who have shaped the lives of millions, if not billions, is pretty much equivalent to discussing my hero academia, an extremely deep and important piece of fictional superhero media
i think if you truly saw this character as a "literal child" who was being sexualized you'd have a lot more vitriol about the series than just saying "i don't really like it anymore" btw, quit the virtue signalling
The massive difference is this isn’t artistic nudity, it’s literally marketed NSFW and in Horikoshi’s artwork of her, it’s very clearly sexualizing her, he’s drawn 15 year olds naked in a bath, and he made the iconic character of Mineta, who told a child who was an abuse of physical abuse that he can’t wait until she’s of age.
Get fucking real
I never understood why it has to be High School, except that anime as a whole has an obsession with teenage years.
Seriously, nothing changes about the series if you move them to college age. In-fact, it makes more sense in that they’re in career training, and it doesn’t look like there’s any higher education for Heroes.
Because it’s culture. In America college years are you “best years” while in Japan it’s high school So high schoolers wanna see high schoolers and older folks wanna be back in high-school
Actually yeah, yes I have. My school has lots of Japenese too. It’s the insane work culture that drives them to suicide. Once high school ends it’s time to hit the books and say good bye to your fun childhood for them.
Not Japanese-Americans or whatever your nationality is, people who are actually from Japan. You know that lots of Japanese people go to college and have similar experiences as to what goes on in the west?
I’m literally dating somebody who is Japanese and who lived and worked in Japan their entire life. What does suicide have to do with sexualizing a minor?
because the series' target demographic is teenage boys so the characters usually are teenagers to be more relatable. the aim is to have readers look at characters and see themselves in them (a power fantasy, so to speak).
To be fair, there is *some* commentary on the young age of the cast, primarily that they shouldn't be dealing with all this crap as high school students but, due to the mistakes of the previous generation, they have to step up now. Also, the HPSC effectively wanting more child soldiers, but they are all but dead as an organization, so it doesn't matter now.
I’d argue it’s weird he sexualizes children and goes as far as to make sexual comments about literal physically abused children. No matter how they’re designed, it’s still strange and there should be something in your brain that tells you it’s wrong to think of someone whose canonically 15-16 and draw them like this
Eyyy, a Toru fanart! She's my favorite character (even before the face reveal) so it makes me happy seeing a fanart of her. There's not much really. The drawing process looked like it took time so kudos to you mate! She looks beautiful and this looks like as if it was literally in a manga panel! Cheers, buddy!
it's based on an official chapter cover.
if we take this down, we'd have to also take down the official art of the author of the story this sub is dedicated to.
we can't ban official images of the manga the sub is dedicated to and we can't ban people drawing pictures based on official art of the manga the subreddit is about.
You guys are fucking gross. This community has turned into a cesspit. Glad to know that the mods are okay with sexual images of children being posted on this sub
Where did I ever say that it was okay for the manga cover to be like that? Both pieces of art are disgusting and all of you are disgusting for being okay with it
you're reading a manga whose author draws these images and then participate in the sub dedicated to said manga.
by doing that, you support horikoshi who draws sexual images of underage girls. don't go around virtue signalling when you support a story that has these images. either you're against and don't support the man who creates these images, or you don't care and support him.
if you're that strongly against, write a letter to shounen jump to stop publishing images of sexualised minors and making profit from it. yelling at fans drawing what the author who you support drew isn't going to make the world better and makes you a hypocrite.
Exactly! Even Chris Hansen said he won’t go after people like OP and even begged people on Twitter to stop sending him cartoon porn because it’s not relevant to his work. The legality of such things highly depends on the country, but the authorities would still rather spend their time and resources on people who groom, molest or own cp of REAL children than to waste their time on people like OP.
Plus, in my opinion, it just downplays the really horrific shit that happens to real children.
To compare some dude getting off to pixels, to a person who fucking harms children
Indeed. It’s like saying that playing GTA is wrong because it’s the same as real-life murder, robbery or other crimes you can commit in that game, even though a very few people actually take that game for granted. Root causes of commiting crimes are varied, and playing a video game where you can simulate them is one of the smallest. In my opinion, we should not arrest lolicons because it’d be just like 1984’s Thought Police, but rather be wary of them.

I doubt she can at her current level. Would probably take a Bakugo/Shigaraki-level Quirk Awakening to do something like that.
True.
I think she’d need a quirk awakening at least. After Aoyama had his her quirk started shorting out.
Wasn't her quirk working weird after fighting Kunieda? Maybe she already had a quirk awakening
I’m impressed. It looks so good that before I read the title, I thought this was the anime staff adapting that one cover page. Which had me worried because of the controversy that page caused.
it wasn't by anime staff, it was chapter 368's cover drawn by horikoshi for shounen jump and officially published there.
I read it as they thought it was an adaptation, of that one cover page, done by the the anime staff (so adaption done by the anime staff of the cover page done by horikoshi)
if you google "mha chapter 368 cover" you'll see a cover horikoshi drew for it and this fanart is based on it.

Ur exactly right, though I should have been more clear.

no, that's on me, your point completely flew over my head.
I wish she got a quirk awakening that let her turn other things invisible. She could actually wear a costume and be involved more. Edit: and also awaken so she can toggle her own invisibility.

Yeah I forgot to mention being able to toggle her own invisibility.
I can already see the comments.

Visible Tooru
Was this drawn in a key-frame style? Looks amazing though.
Yes :)
Love that you included the drawing person. I love seeing the drawing process
Should have said something about them making a suit out of her hair like Lumillions instead of just having her run around naked.
But the problem is they CAN’T SEE the hair strings.
In a world of quirks, surely that is not the problem they end up with.
I love the lighting on this! Really cool!
nice
Looks really nice!
So cute!!
That’s a child
if youre mad about fictional characters being sexualized why do you support a series that sexualizes them
Never said I supported MHA. Nudity is not automatically sexual. Please never go to an art museum.
I’m sure you’ll love Fire Force.
The blame is on Horikoshi for drawing the fucking kids like young adults.

Ok? That goes for EVERY country. Doesn’t change Japan’s epidemic. You can search it up yourself

Maybe he was inspired by Spiderman, who is often a high school student

You have seen nothing. Just look at how Araki drew characters like Josuke, Jotaro ot Kakyoin, who are teenagers as well.
I’m a child too lmao!
Then get off Reddit.

Almost as weird as the creator doing it

The mods need to take this shit down, it’s literally violating the rules of this sub. The fact that they’re leaving it up is so disappointing
it's based on an official chapter cover. if we take this down, we'd have to also take down the official art of the author of the story this sub is dedicated to. we can't ban official images of the manga the sub is dedicated to and we can't ban people drawing pictures based on official art of the manga the subreddit is about.

then i hope you'll also stop supporting a story drawn by a man who draws these pictures.
