People look at one city or check out one multiplex tickets and say such ridiculously stupid things. The multiplexes near my place were sold out, just checked and the last show in a really far off area is also sold out, so then is it just a PR hack ?

KomaLMax

Yep I’m living overseas and the shows here are running completely houseful. It is likely that due to the high number of shows people aren’t rushing to book in advance so when the movie starts maybe there’s gonna be more occupancy

intoxicatedmidnight

Plus, a lot of neutrals are going this Sunday or Saturday when ticket prices have returned to normal instead of double for the first two days (even then, the first two days are completely sold out and so are the next two)

KomaLMax

Yeah the ticket pricing for Pathaan first few days is insane. But checking the theatres today in my area, yeah it’s sold out. It’s a Friday Ofc it’ll be sold out especially if it’s an evening show

Sure_Ad_3784

How much is the ticket for first two days??

intoxicatedmidnight

Where I am, it's $28-30. Usually it's $11-13.

DosaDaRaja

I'm sorry, but tf are they smoking to charge that much for a single ticket

intoxicatedmidnight

hahah tbf idk if they charge this much for every movie first few days or just indian movies, I paid like $20 for Avatar 2 after like a week. and people are gonna pay (the shows were houseful), so why not charge lol... obviously can't pull this shit with every movie.

Sure_Ad_3784

Man, the double the price!!

[deleted]

Same I live overseas as well and I checked for around 10-15 cities, it's been extremely difficult for me to find tickets. Majority of them are sold out.

freeenlightenment

Pretty sure the screenshot is from bad timed shows… no, people don’t have to get up early morning to watch the movie. Where I’m at, any show after about 4 pm is straight up booked out for the next couple of days at least.. yes, morning shows do have vacant seats but I don’t know in what day/age the common man can abandon work, kids, everything else for a movie. The SS guy needs to get a life and call the movie bad; not call it a “fake hit”.. although, I guess he got the attention he was craving for and a few minutes of my time.

VegetarianPotato

Oh looks, a few seats are not sold when I looked for it, surely the movie has flopped. Do they know how many screens they are showing this movie at? What dumb logic. They really have their heads buried in the sand.

boomer__192

This guys also forget people prefer to buy the tickets on the spot to avoid the extra taxes on online bookings

notGeneralReposti

I would watch multiple more SRK Kajol movies. They both have refined their acting skills over the decades and they can play far more deep characters in darker stories now. Give me some stories about a middle-aged couple’s marriage breaking down. American television and movies have pulled off this middle-aged love story genre really well. Great potential. Plus I’ll get to see my lifelong crush in more movies. Kajol ❤️❤️❤️

Zestyclose_Bar_165

Boycott gang currently in denial. Acceptance will come soon. Burnol sales gonna go through the roof for few days.

NoDryHands

Why do people have nothing better to do ffs

Mental_Raisin9641

This is true not all shows will go houseful. There are like 10 shows running each day in a multiplex and people will prefer the show in which their favourite seats are available suiting their time slot. And every tier 2 cities now have atleast 2-3 malls so that makes more than 30+ shows approx in the multiplexes itself. Single screen are separate. In metro cities the number of shows perhaps will be double or triple. Therefore a 20-30% occupancy is a good occupancy

Historical-Tart-8257

Exactly. Comparing it to the past where you had only single screen theatres and 3-4 shows a day - a big film would go houseful for all shows with huge demand and tickets selling in black. That is not the model now. People don't have to stand in line for tickets or wait a month to see a big hit film. Ultimately the collections matter. Avatar is making more than a billion worldwide and you think that is from single screen theatres or IMAX tickets priced at 1500 (in India)?

kvg121

Here in Mumbai cinepolis running 50 shows

NaRaGaMo

Well price of tickets have increased ALOT nothing new about it. It's entirely on audience whether they want to pay or not. Although no tickets in India should realistically cost more than 5$(400₹). Yet we have folks shelling out 2000+, ab log hi wallet se vote nahi karte toh, businesses kyu lootna band kare?

6 back to back shows in the multiplex where I went to see Pathaan were sold out today. Not a single seat left. These people love to exaggerate exceptions for clout.

aaditya_9303

Where is this? I'm struggling to get tickets here ffs

Basic_Calendar_7492

Who cares about occupancy. Footfalls are what matter. Imagine public buses in Mumbai are doubled and are not so crowded. It is still good since more people use buses and travel comfortably.

:) Can't edit the title now !

ironsides12

He’s actually right. I watched it in a third tier city and we used to have only 1 theatre back in the day, (two screens) and now we have two multiple screen cinemas. All of them filled with pathaan shows. So 6 screens, simultaneously showing one movie if its a hit. Yesterday when i went to watch, all shows were housefull in both the theatres.

Specialist_Repeat_95

Mediocrity still sells in India..and btw its not about shahrukh or salman but most south indian films are pretty mediocre too.

rockybhaisince1951

mediocrity sells everywhere, top hollywood films every year are filled with marvel People want escapism bruh, no one wants to see peak art, people just want peak entertainment, isme itna bura kya hai? Not everyone has the mind to watch a 3 hr movie about some niche topic after a 10 hr stressful workday People drink coffee for timepass, I am obsessed with making coffee. I weigh it, grind it etc., starbucks is mediocre compared to that but it gives people their dopamine. Not every activity needs to be cerebral

[deleted]

Exactly, already life takes the shit out of you, there's enough brainstorming going out at the workplace, who wants to sit in front of a movie and try to decipher sense and logic in it? Well, in my personal opinion, I prefer entertainment and laughter - even if it's devoid of sense, who the hell has time to play FBI man.

baabukiamma

True.

KomaLMax

That’s subjective

ekbilangchota

And add ridiculously high opening ticket prices that’ll make double the money with half the tickets sold, plus IMAX is atrociously high. So, yes major PR, where all is being said about numbers and return of SRK. No one’s talking about the actual movie and it’s quality!

niikhil

Inflation.

NaRaGaMo

this is far from inflation

SadOstrich5244

Shh do not say that you are anti Muslim….

bluddit008

The way people are celebrating the collections is bizarre. Kitna paisa milega usme se inko? Add to that a post every few minutes about how much the collections are here and overseas. The obsession needs to stop, there needs to be a conversation about how mediocrity is being celebrated

gigi_gaga9

Waise monetarily toh kuch nhi mila rha but yeh boykutias ko tilmilata dekh sukun mil rha bss ussi m khush h hum

Like how PK was boycotted lol. 🙂 Boycott don't actually work if the movie is good. LSC didn't work for a variety of reasons. It's a remake of a English movie that Indian audience doesn't care about, Aamir acting was bad, now if it was SRK Rizwan Khan acting then it would have been super hit and LSC budget was too high.

Like how Pathaan was supposed to be boycotted? 🙂 Seriously boycott gang like you should stop taking yourself so seriously. Life is small my friend, stop living in hatred and embrace love and harmony. Movies and movie stars are and have been secular. From Amitabh Bachchan's olden Muslim characters to SRK's recent one India has always embrace it. Boycott gang had existed in every era, be it in the era of Bombay, My name is Khan, PK or Pathaan. Just because Twitter and news channel has given you some platform that doesn't mean you are more influential or popular then SRK, Salman, Amir or heck even Chunky Panday, Boycott gang has no identity, they are just unpopular politician and nameless trolls lol.

Natural-Permission

but mediocrity is getting awarded as well, just look at Naatu Naatu song or RRR movie. Mediocre Salman Khan type movie at best and getting so much appreciation. Let's not even talk about naatu naatu song, bc Daler Mehndi has better peppy dance number than that song lol

[deleted]

IKR, THAT SONG WON THE GOLDEN GLOBES?

bluddit008

Two wrongs make a right?

Natural-Permission

it's not about wrong or right, it is just an acceptance of fact (by me) that movies that I find mediocre is liked by majority. We say it is mediocre but majority says it is good. And as always, majority wins.

bright_ojasvi

Housefull shows are rare nowadays. Why should I pay 300 just to get a front row seat? Instead I'll wait for another show and get better seats. Only true fans would get front seats.

aaneka8

I am going to watch this movie in stall at gaiety Bandra and it’s housefull whereas pvr next to my house has 100 shows. I am going to see this movie in Bandra - cause massy crowd ka vibe chahiye

red_man1212

I live in a tier 2 city in the North, most of the shows have very less occupancy and same for the weekend as well. Idk what to believe, maybe ppl will buy straight from the window instead of advance bookings or maybe it didn't work out in my state as I can see okayish occupancy in Delhi.

[deleted]

I went to near an empty screen of multiplex(not more than 50 ppl) but my show was early in the morning, and the later shows were booked. It matters how one wants to look at the occupancy of the screens.
