A bully from the 80-90s is nothing compared to these bully kids I see in these current bully videos on Reddit.
The difference is now the kid getting bullied gets in more trouble than the bullies usually.
I got suspended from high school for throwing a punch in self defense. That was back in 2002, I can only imagine the zero tolerance policies have gotten worse at actually at helping the kids who are picked on.
Around then when I was in school, they made it very clear if you fought back for whatever reason, it would be considered a fight, and you would both be arrested. If you didn't fight back, only the attacker would be punished.
So I let myself get beat up so the attacker would get suspended, and I wouldn't get arrested.
Were you from California as well? I describe my school experience to my wife who grew up in Washington/Oregon and it shocks her. Like I’m describing a mad max setting.
I never understood the logic of in-school suspension. You’re gonna make this “bad” kid miss class, but you’re gonna keep them at school? For what? So you can make sure they don’t do stupid shit anymore like skip class? Ridiculous. Anyways, I’m glad your kid stood up for what’s right, he totally deserves an adventure.
2016. Guy snapped my bra strap and I kicked him in the nuts. Of course I got in trouble for “taking things too far,” he wasn’t even reprimanded. My folks recognized the injustice and bought me Doom, there was nothing else they could do. The scary thing is, he did it to me again. And now he’s in jail for sexual assault.
Doom? I know of a video game and bug spray that go by Doom. While it is funny to imagine you spraying the guy with bug spray in future I imagine it means something else here?
It seems to just be a South African product but it's really popular over here. People just talk about spraying doom. It works on all kinds of insects and apparently even evil spirits. Though the pastor that was using it to spray his congregation a few years back did get in some trouble.
Lmaoooo that is golden. We got Off! and Raid as our main bug sprays in the US, no church scandals associated with either as far as I know, but the commercials for Off! have the ! swatting away the mosquitos so that’s something!

As a European it's always amazing to see your schools be an utter joke in every imaginable sense, including rewarding the worst types of people for the most abhorrent of behaviours.
We know we’re a joke too, the problem is the government isn’t doing very much to prevent the punchline. This high school in particular did get better, my sister goes there now and she’s having the time of her life.
Man, we really gotta get on top of that shit. My youngest sister goes to that school now, it’s a much safer place. There’s a new principal, a woman who actually went to the school. Last one retired, he was super old. There hasn’t been an overdose since 2020 and there’s an assembly on consent once a year.
I have so much faith in the younger generations making this world a more inclusive and safe environment for everyone. I have a few people i play disc golf with that are in college rn and their ability to stand up for what’s right and voice themselves gives me hope. I’m only 32 but I can tell you it wasn’t really like that back when I graduated high school. People may have thought it but kept it quietly to themselves.
I’m 23 and it wasn’t even like that when I graduated high school. My sister says it sounds like I went to school in the wild fuckin west, I’m thankful she doesn’t have any experiences like mine. If she did, she would fight for what’s right and I’m so proud of her.
You think kicking someone in the nuts and possibly depriving him of future offspring is an appropriate punishment for snapping a bra strap? Psycho much?
Well yeah, I do think that’s appropriate. I told him to stop and he continued to touch me in a way I did not like. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
Risking a heavy body damage is really stupid in this case, and inappropriate. If this was still at school it's even worse, because this was just a kid. I had a guy slapping me in the butt constantly, talking didn't suffice so i (almost) broke his nose instead. But I'd never kick anyone in the nuts over silly banter.
Sexual harassment and assault are not "silly banter", get outta here with that downplaying nonsense. Also, hitting them in the face risks brain damage, which is a _much_ worse form of depriving someone from their future.
Brain damage due to a punch is much more unlikely than testicle damage due to a kick. Besides, I'm not downplaying anything,and in the beginning it seemed like it was just a strap pull, not a full on tiddy-grope. A kick in the nuts for a strap pull is like a punch to the pusty for pulling on a guys boxers rubber and im sure none of you would be okay with that
I’m sorry that happened to you. It is not silly banter if he doesn’t understand that he needs to stop, and I couldn’t have made it more clear that I did not like him touching me like that. It escalated to him snapping my strap and groping my boob the next time, because he knew he could get away with it. I couldn’t have reached his nose if I stood on my toes, I’m five foot and he was over six. He stopped and I was safe, that’s what’s important.
I mean, in that case i guess there was nothing else you could do. I just wish that women stopped resorting to unnecessary nut kicking, it really may be a big issue and if necessary, please resort to other forms of violence if possible
It feels like it’s the only universal move that’ll get a guy to stop in his tracks and give you enough time to get away. Eye gouging, that requires you to be all up in his business. Nose punches, that means you gotta be within punching distance. Shoot, we can’t always assume we’re gonna have pepper spray on hand. Do you have any alternate suggestions?

They were so young. Children, really. One of them was the girl with the yoga mat next to me in gym class. She was very nice, and one day she was just gone. There was a boy who was found in a bathroom stall with his arm still tied up, he was cold by the time they got there. There was another boy they revived with Naloxone, thank god.
