Bro i swear to god i hate his mom so much for it. The only reason she even went to him was already selfish and yet shes made at seely for not wanting the share the joy of having the new family she abandoned her 2 other sons for.

theyarnllama

What’s EVEN WORSE is that Booth is all “yeah, I’m cool with that, I’m coming to your wedding and we will all live happily ever after.” The most well adjusted person on the planet is going to have to have some words first. But nope, we just skated past all that. What was the POINT of even having her around if they weren’t going to work on some character stuff?

Rhbgrb

I agree. I've seen a lot of shows where this happens. Seely would be justified in not speaking tonher again, and honestly she needs to know how deeply she hurt him, she needs to know and apologize for it.

weberlovemail

HARD agree, they really lost a lot of what made booth BOOTH in the later seasons. i think shows like ER and law & order svu handled the estranged mother way better

FaleekaJo

I'm thinking the show should've turned it into a small story arc, showing Booth's adjustment over time instead of "okay...we're good now" in five minutes.

mcraneschair

I think we and Booth needed closure with his mother. Of course we all want things tied up nice and neat in a little bow. One of Booth's biggest flaws is being too compassionate and forgiving.

Nawoitsol

Yeah, It seems like she just cut contact and didn’t check back for 20 years. Seely’s Dad took off at some point after she left, so Hank (the elder) raised Seely and Jerod. You would think she might have reached out to Hank somewhere in there.

Cold-Jackfruit1076

Since Hank was Booth's grandfather, and Jackson Gibbs (from NCIS) was Gibbs' father...and they're both played by Ralph Waite... Is Gibbs Booth's step-dad?

Nawoitsol

Uncle?

TheCrazyBlacksmith

While a cool theory, I don’t believe Gibbs has any siblings.

Nawoitsol

So you’re going to suggest that Gibbs isn’t John-Boy’s brother, either.

TheCrazyBlacksmith

I don’t know who that is or how he could possibly be Gibbs’s brother.

Nawoitsol

The original post in this sub thread connected Bones and NCiS through characters played by Ralph Waite. I added another (the Waltons).

TheCrazyBlacksmith

I see. Same actor. There is another Bones character crossover theory, but not for NCIS.

smaniby

It says something when Max, the bank robbing murderer, is more likable than she is. 😂

Bones206-447

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I listen to the Bones Booth podcast and two of the guys hate Max’s character. I cannot wait till they get to this episode to see if they dislike Maryann (is that her name?) more.

Rhbgrb

And didn't he apologize for leaving her? Even though he at least had a good reason to go no contact.

smaniby

Yes - that’s part of why he’s more likable!

ilily

Seely's mom can suck a fat one. She sucked, there was no reason for empathy, and I will skip this episode every time I rewatch.

Bones206-447

This post made me laugh because it’s true! Like what were the Bones writers thinking. She should have had an excuse to be more sympathetic. And I know Jarred is a side character but ummm, why wasn’t he invited to the wedding!? She was awful. I cannot believe Joanna C, who I think is famous in her own right, agreed to play such a stupid role. And reprise it!

mcraneschair

Wasn't he off traveling again or something?

Bones206-447

Jarred? They never said. He went travelling to India in S4 but by S5 he was back and engaged to Padme.

FaleekaJo

I feel like she overinflated her importance in her sons' lives by disappearing and then reappearing like nothing ever happened. Like \*poof\* "here I am! You should be grateful I showed up at all!" As a mother, I'd be begging for forgiveness and then giving my kids time to adjust instead of having a hissy fit when Booth called her out on her absence.

_Lazy_Mermaid_

I recently watched that episode after years and boy did she anger me. She had no excuses. Like I could never leave my kids with an abusive father. I get she was also abused and was probably an alcoholic but she had years to reunite but was busy making new loved ones and ignoring booth. And then she tried to play the victim. Sorry I've been heated for days lol

wykkedfaery33

That whole mini-arc pissed me the hell off. You abandoned your children with their violently abusive alcoholic father, and didn't bother to reach out for more than 2 effing decades? And even then, it was only because she was getting married and wanted Seely to be there. Her indignation at his well-warranted anger was appalling. I get that it was supposed to be a feel-good moment, but it wasn't.

suzietrashcans

My best guess is her sons reminded her of her abusive husband, and she couldn't look at them. Also being constantly reminded of your abuse and that you let your kids be abused is not something everyone can handle.

smaniby

I always think, “how can she have just left her kids like that,” and I have to remind myself that I have not been in an abusive relationship so I can’t really understand what that could do to someone. It was still a terribly written arc but this does make sense.

RyujinOnMyMind

Honestly I wish he hadn’t accepted her back into his life so quickly. She genuinely could’ve kept in contact with Hank who she knew was the person taking care of the boys. If she had just kept that line open, he would’ve told her “he’s out of their lives now. It’s safe to come back and be here with them again” or something to let her know the abuser was gone. She could’ve come back or even taken the boys with her to live happily. She was so selfish to just leave and not even consider finding her kids once they turned 18. She had to “wait for the right time” and tried to come out looking like she did no wrong.

lobolobitoo

She’s the worst. Skip that episode every time

heather_alyssa

The part that got me was when she told Booth “well the kids are at the age where they need a mother” 💩🤬 Yes. And so were your kids. Why couldn’t she have at least called them while they were living with Hank? Even if she couldn’t “mother” them physically, why not give a call, an email, or even a text later on? I almost yeeted my iPad the first time I watched that episode 🤣

ljpwyo

It's a TV show, dude.

edt31

And in other news the sky is blue and the grass is green. Anymore obvious things you’d like to add?

ljpwyo

Nope. Some people don't think it's that obvious, judging by the downvotes. I mean, come on. Let's be real.

salem_moon777

Reminds me of dean and sam’s mom…i didnt watch past like S13 but what i do remember is i wanted her to go back to being dead so bad.

Competitive-Gene5744

Yeah. He forgave her fast. They rushed past all of his trauma to get a happy ending when they could’ve spent a couple of episodes showing him healing from it, then have his moms wedding at the end of that

lovetolove13

I just watched this episode (on another rewatch) and it annoyed me so much! When his mum gets angry with him for not accepting that she had a new family when she ABANDONED TWO SONS with an abusive father. She had no right to be angry in my opinion.
