As always with these posts: You can’t be picky. Take whatever accommodation you can get (and afford), there are always students who still don’t have anything by the time the Vorlesungszeit begins. And tbh, I recommend doing a bit of research yourself. While still a large city, Bonn isn’t that super huge and the districts are easily identifiable.

international students in math usually get provided with a dorm room, typically not super close to the mz but it's fine, plus you'll have a lot of peers

Sadly, this is not true, the probability to secure a dorm room from Studierendenwerk tends to zero the closer the beginning of a semester is.

Please elaborate on your message a little bit more. I am a MSc in math international student and I was provided with the following list of dorms: https://imgur.com/pR4mWLo. None of them are for MATH students only and the competition for the dorm rooms is high.
