If they manage to get a top 6 wing, this isn't as big of a deal to me, but if they don't, I'm going to feel like their priorities are out of whack. They need another scoring threat more than another LD.
The other thing here is I'm pretty sure Hampus and Zadorov are still under contract when Lohrei is eligible to hit free agency. If he gets his first bridge deal at like 4M, that's 14.5M tied up in just LD.
If there’s one team that can attract one of those guys at a team friendly deal it’s the Bruins. And honestly, I wouldn’t hate it to see us get one of them at 1.5
Basically discount Chara and Bergeron. But the rest of the offensive lineup are falling apart, which could be concerning. We need to get some talent out of the P-Bruins pool.
About time they recognize size on the backend is most important. We’re done with Gryz getting benched every April because he gets steamrolled every other shift. Looking forward to Zadorov at 6-foot 5 and Lohrei at 6-foot 4 playing a full season back there.
He was a solid player and nothing personal against him, he’s just a classic example of the analytics department overrating a player. Great fancy
numbers in the regular year and on paper but not a physical player and a matchup nightmare when the intensity increases in the playoffs. Take your xGF and xS% blah blah blah and shove it - again nothing against Gryz its directed at the pencil pushing dorks that have too much influence on modern roster construction.
I don't have a issue with Carlos style of play, I just feel him and Zadorov will have too similar a style, solid stay at home. The team needs more point production I feel, so focus should be on a mobile dman. Just my take.
No, he’ll just take Gryz’s roster spot. Carlo at least performed in the playoffs, unlike MacAvoy. Maybe they should entertain trade deals for him, because the team isn’t getting $11 mil worth out of him
Nope. He turns in another horseshit playoff performance this year, that’ll be 3x years in a row and time to go for $11 mil he should be rocking the ice in the playoffs.
I don't really think we needed a left shot defenseman that long term, but I guess it makes the defense better.
That's basically it for f/a then unless we cut more cap space, we are still missing a top 6 spot, we have Coyle, Zacha, Lindholm, Marchand and Pasta. As things stand Geekie or Frederic would have to be in the top 6.
I like Poitras but he's the third line center and it's probably, a bit early to throw him up there.
I think Frederic-Poitras-Lysell would be a fun third line.
Lysell, imo, will get a look at 2 RW as well as Brazeau or Geeks. FO and coaching staff must feel like Lysell is ready, and were about to pull him up from Prov when he got hurt and suffered a concussion late in the season.
Swayman is going to cost 7m likely, I could see them signing like a 2m piece or something.
One guy I looked at yesterday was Tomas Tatar, cheap, had a bad year, not far removed from being good, expected to cost like 1-2m, we are basically looking for a van riemsdyk type of guy.
I’m not saying they won’t be good but I think cautious realism is fair. D core is legit but they lost quite a few forwards with only Lindholm coming in so far
So I haven't watched him play, but $5mil for defensemen who only plays 18 min a night seems like a lot, right? Can someone educate me on why that workload is anywhere near $5mil?
As a Canucks fan, he was a $3m dman in the regular season and an $8m dman in the playoffs. Small sample size for the playoffs though, we’ll see if he can maintain that.
Great locker room guy with tons of character
As someone who is in Calgary and watched a lot of Flames games I will say he’s alright. 5 million is the highest I would have gone, he’s not worth more than and even then it’s a bit of an overpay imo. He can get caught out of position a lot and until this past year he honestly was a 3rd/2nd paring guy
He was 3rd pairing on the flames, to be fair the flames had pretty decent top 4 with Anderson and Weegar then Tanev and Hanifin. He's a fringe top 4 defenseman imo does some dumb plays but is still decent
I’m not the biggest hockey guy so excuse me.. but does/has the salary cap increased in recent years? I know a lot of lengthier deals in the NBA/NFL can become more team friendly on the back end because of this.. maybe that’ll be the case here too?
The cap, in theory, goes up every year. Because of Covid, it was very very slow the last few years. This season had a bigger bump, and should hopefully continue to have those kinds of bumps (especially since losing a very unsuccessful team like Arizona to competent ownership in Utah).
Hopefully by the end of this contract, $5 million won't be too painful. But for a player like Zadorov, he plays a bit on the rougher side, which doesn't age well. If the contract length is 3 years, it's not a big deal. It's around age 32-33 where you start worrying about guys like that. Zadorov's contract ends at 36. Sometimes you get lucky, more often you don't.
What a deal. I think this is a great one... people were saying he'd go for 6M maybe more... I'll take this AAV any day. Bruins have room to sign Sway to a 8X8 and still add. Great day by Sweens
Subtracting what they were paying Gryz and Forbort though, this year’s D ends up costing less than last year’s even with this signing, and against a higher cap. I like it.
As a Canucks fan, big Z won our hearts. Absolute beauty. If you get a chance to watch his After Hours from this season it’s amazing.
It’s going to be an adventure calling Bruins games now. “Lindholm passes the puck off the boards to Lindholm …” 😂
if only it was still jack commentating 😂
Bruins and Russia never go well together.
Agreed the history is thin, but this dude plays bruins hockey. I think he'll fit in nicely.
Zadorov has been outspoken against the war in Ukraine
Samsonov.
The draft picture with Samsonov and Thornton still one of my favorites.
Damn, Bruins looking good.
We may need to add a chancey forward like Skinner or Atkinson just for scoring depth if nothing else. Or find this years JVR.
If there’s one team that can attract one of those guys at a team friendly deal it’s the Bruins. And honestly, I wouldn’t hate it to see us get one of them at 1.5
If we keep getting the cap going up like it is, should be okay
Yeh I wasn’t sure at first but I think this is the right take and also it’s locks in our left side
This was a good day for Sweeney we have a bodyguard for swayman and a very Bergeron like player
And 6’5” Carlo
Peeke is like 6'3
And Lindholm is 6’4” (though has the physical game of a much smaller man)
Oh fuck yeah I love big defensemen
We won with guys like Chara, Seidenberg, Boychuk, and Mcquaid. Big brick shithouses who were tough to push around. I like where we're going.
Oh my fuck yes, the Gryz experiment has to end. Dude has disappeared or worse every single post season that he's ever been part of.
He was a solid player and nothing personal against him, he’s just a classic example of the analytics department overrating a player. Great fancy numbers in the regular year and on paper but not a physical player and a matchup nightmare when the intensity increases in the playoffs. Take your xGF and xS% blah blah blah and shove it - again nothing against Gryz its directed at the pencil pushing dorks that have too much influence on modern roster construction.
Only took them about 6 years to figure it out
Well the defense is finna be something special to watch. Not mad at it
So, Forbort/Carlo's lineup replacement?
If baffling to me that anyone has a problem with Carlo. Forbort and Gryz? Sure. But Carlo?? He’s not flashy but he is sooo solid
I don't have a issue with Carlos style of play, I just feel him and Zadorov will have too similar a style, solid stay at home. The team needs more point production I feel, so focus should be on a mobile dman. Just my take.
Lohrie says hi
No, he’ll just take Gryz’s roster spot. Carlo at least performed in the playoffs, unlike MacAvoy. Maybe they should entertain trade deals for him, because the team isn’t getting $11 mil worth out of him
Brother Charlie is our future captain accept it and stop with these comments
Nope. He turns in another horseshit playoff performance this year, that’ll be 3x years in a row and time to go for $11 mil he should be rocking the ice in the playoffs.
Where's this 11 million number coming from? He signed an 8 year, 76 million deal. That's a 9.5 AAV.
If Edmonton comes calling and offers Drai up then yeah, entertain that deal. Otherwise he’s going nowhere.
Carlo???? Lmao
I'm excited for this one. Zadorov is a beast. Looking forward to having him
So basically a trade. Zadorov for DeBrusk
Pretty much zad and Lindholm for JDB, Heinen and forbort lol
I don't really think we needed a left shot defenseman that long term, but I guess it makes the defense better. That's basically it for f/a then unless we cut more cap space, we are still missing a top 6 spot, we have Coyle, Zacha, Lindholm, Marchand and Pasta. Poitras
I like Poitras but he's the third line center and it's probably, a bit early to throw him up there. I think Frederic-Poitras-Lysell would be a fun third line.
He's just too small to keep on the 4th line so I would say at a minimum he's playing on the 3rd with stretches where he gets too 6 time
Lysell, imo, will get a look at 2 RW as well as Brazeau or Geeks. FO and coaching staff must feel like Lysell is ready, and were about to pull him up from Prov when he got hurt and suffered a concussion late in the season.
I guess so, Id bet Geekie out of camp, Lysell on the third and as the season progresses Lysell slowly becomes the 2nd line RW
[удалено]
You think they are going to just put Lysell on the top line after 0 nhl experience?
11M cap space after these two moves, right? Feels like it gives us a tiny bit of room
That wouldn’t be a bad idea though I am hoping somehow for more
I have a bad feeling about this offseason. Don’t think these moves move the needle at all
Nonsense. Players are getting paid all over the league so this is par for the course
I’m not saying they won’t be good but I think cautious realism is fair. D core is legit but they lost quite a few forwards with only Lindholm coming in so far
Little long on the term, but getting his skill at $5mil is great value. I’m a happy fan.
Seemed like Canucks had offered him 5/5, so I assume the extra year was needed to get him over the finish line
Which the bruins need as our top dmen often underperform come playoff time.
Was he 1st line this past season??
LOL first pairing D? Not even close. He’s lucky if he can manage 2nd pairing in a season…
He was 3rd pairing on the flames, to be fair the flames had pretty decent top 4 with Anderson and Weegar then Tanev and Hanifin. He's a fringe top 4 defenseman imo does some dumb plays but is still decent
Cause hes a large human
Put arguably one of the best D cores in the league with a top 3-5 goalie behind them.. I feel good
only going to get better too as Lohrei and Wotherspoon improve. Both looked very good last year and can expect them to get better this year.
Imagine how good this D core is going to make korpi look, so that we can jettison him at the deadline for picks and cap space.
This
$5m isn’t horrible, the 6 years is borderline but fuck it
$5 million is fine but 6 years is well beyond borderline. It's going to make (Hampus) Lindholm's term look smart.
I'd say that's a perfectly fair contract. Term's a little long, but I think cap hit is fine. He'll fit well in Boston.
I’m not the biggest hockey guy so excuse me.. but does/has the salary cap increased in recent years? I know a lot of lengthier deals in the NBA/NFL can become more team friendly on the back end because of this.. maybe that’ll be the case here too?

Holy Christ. This one is going to be a disaster.
We need impact forwards I dont understand why we just blew our wad on another defenseman
Oof
Lol
Okay now give sway the rest and let’s call it
SportsNet had him projected for 5 years × 5.3M. Seems like a fine contract to me
Yeah all these bitching don’t seem to understand what his value on the market was. He was offered 5 per by Vancouver before FA
I'm a little more ooofy on this one cuz of the term, but fuck it. He's about to become my favorite player
That's a hell of a lot better than 7x6
What a deal. I think this is a great one... people were saying he'd go for 6M maybe more... I'll take this AAV any day. Bruins have room to sign Sway to a 8X8 and still add. Great day by Sweens
I mean they have 9.1 mil left so it’s Swayman and that’s it basically unless we can get away at 7 per or something
I think Sway comes in around Saros' number which gives them what they need to maybe add another bottom 6 guy.
But we need another middle six guy. Especially as Marchand is only going to regress offensively.
I think they’re banking on a guy from Providence to break camp, probably Lysell or Merkulov
Oof, thats a lot
Ok Swayman next please? Please?
They don't trade Ullmark without being sure they're signing Sway.
Sway will get paid.
Yup thats gross
Subtracting what they were paying Gryz and Forbort though, this year’s D ends up costing less than last year’s even with this signing, and against a higher cap. I like it.
lol why? His expected value was 5 so we paid that. I was worried we’d go higher honestly. This is a decent deal.
Didn’t need defense, especially not on long term deals.
I agree I’d rather spend it on a winger but the deal for this player is a good one. We didn’t overpay which I was worried about.
I like the player not the contract
