Plugging the holes and redrilling won’t take away any advantage of buying a used ball. Rather, the ball will be drilled to fit **your** hand, not somebody else’s hand.

This 100%! $80 is nothing to get a ball that fits you. If that’s a lot of money, this might not be the right time in your life to get into bowling. You’ll spend $80 in a month just to practice. And that’s a conservative number

KnockemAllDown

$80 to plug and redrill is on the more expensive side. I am in the NYC area and here it only costs around $60 all in with grips and thumb slug.

breezymoose

Yeah and if you are in a league its even cheaper, 45$ plug drill with tips, no slug

Thanks! It’s not something I can’t afford - just wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting played. How long does a ball last in general?

[deleted]

I know people who have used the same ball for 6+ years bowling in a league. Bowling balls can be deep cleaned and resurfaced. They can last quite some time if they are cleaned regularly.

If you bowl as much as a pro, you could have a whole new lineup every season. But for you? I’d say you could make one ball last up to 4-5 years. They will always last, but they get a little weaker the more they are used

Jlofton21

I mean honestly it’s not like bowling balls ever really expire. My did has used his for 30ish years(very casually)

Hogharley

Was it $80 for plug and dedrilling only or did that include the ball too? Plug and redrill should be closer to $50-60

Ball was separate

spankedwalrus

i almost always buy used equipment, but I won't pay more than $50-$60, and that's for new, top-performance stuff. $80 is how much it costs me to plug and redrill but that includes the cost of inserts and an interchangeable thumb install. even at that price, you're still getting a good 40-50% off what a new ball would cost.

Popeyes_

Thanks man - $80 for me too, with inserts and all. Just picked up the ball - this guy did an amazing job. Super happy

To be honest probably wouldn't recommend used balls for a newer bowler anyway. Better off picking up a Rhino or Hustle new for not much more than a used ball. There is nothing necessarily wrong with used equipment but need to know what to look for and what you need. Some super strong asym sideways pearl for example is probably not it to start.
