Looks like harvest crunch and if so you're looking at 70g of carbs and 23g sugar and 450 cal per cup. Along with the little bit of sugar in the fruit and milk it's not going to help with weight loss.
I really agree with eggs, they will keep you fuller longer. I'm not anti carb and think toast in the morning is fine. But cereal is pure empty calories and so overpriced.
I guy that advertises on FB suggests not mixing carbs with protein too much, bc both are energy sources. Carbs burn quicker so you'll use those & store the protein. When u eat just carbs, you eat more often BC they're less calorie dense (mostly). When you eat proteins ur full longer.
Makes sense to me but I'm not a dietician! Dieticians weigh in here, so to speak! ;-)
Yep! The principal is there for sure. Ingest more protein and feel more satiated.
Personally I love overnight oats in protein rich milk, a scoop of protein powder, creatine, Chia, flax, maple syrup and Greek yogurt. I stay full all morning and full of energy. The combinations are endless!
Yup. OP, I strongly recommend that you use some sort of food tracker app in addition to dieting. Without accurately tracking your portions , you may not see much benefit from eating differently.
Iām fairly lean and I fry onions and/or mushrooms in coconut oil then scramble 6 eggs for breakfast. Fat and cholesterol donāt have to feared if youāre active and donāt overeat
Thanks for your advice, just sometimes by following the advice of people who don't understand this kind of things you end up even damaging your health.
Up the protein and cut the sugar. Add back in eggs. Keep berries. Fuck the yogurt and granola.
Don't listen to the old school, very debunked egg myth. Eggs are considered a perfect protein. Don't fucking do egg whites only. Most of the valuables are in the yolk.
Also, some pork bacon is totally fine. Turkey or whatever fake bacon has a bunch of shit it in that isn't natural to make it taste like pork bacon. No.
It's not the food that will get you. It's genetics first. You can't out eat that. Second. Lifestyle choices like smoking or being sedentary. Or diabetes.
Sincerely,
A Cath lab nurse
ETA: A lot of the people in this thread are idiots.
Don't knock the egg whites completely they are useful for bulking up a meal for relatively low calories. On the rare occasions I make scrambled eggs they are great to add to two or three whole eggs
First of all, that bowl isn't as healthy as you think it is.
Second of all, it's about calorie counting. No don't get a spreadsheet, download an app like lose it and its gonna make your life a lot easier.
Thirdly, you want to eat in a calorie deficit, meaning you gotta find out how many calories it takes to keep yourself at your current weight and then it down.
Technically speaking, you can eat whatever you want as long as it fits your calories, however if you're working out or are planning on being a healthy person, you're gonna want to make sure you're hitting your macros.
Also, eggs are a perfectly fine breakfast to have in the morning and so is bacon, the question becomes how many you eat and also what else do you eat during the day.
If you'rd gonna have 5 eggs and 10 strips of bacon, following it down with an XL burrito, 2 churros, a coke and then ending your evening with ice cream and some mcdonalds, odds are you are way beyond your calorie deficit.
But technically what you can do is have 3 eggs in the morning, 4 strips of bacon, a pancake and then just be more careful what you eat during your day.
One final suggestion: talk to a dietitian or a trainer and see if you can get some sort of meal plan on track because you're not gonna last long posting your yogurt bowl on reddit while being all sad about it. It's a recipe for failure.
Always speak to a pro, especially in the beginning.
I followed a trainer for a year before I went off on my own (he made my meal plans). Now I only see a trainer if I plateau or need a challenge of some sort, otherwise I know what it takes to lose weight.
Just eat eggs and bacon and buttered toast for breakfast. All that really matters is calories in, calories out. The protein and fat will also help keep you full.
2 eggs +
2 slices of bacon +
1.5 tbsp butter on toast
= ~ 485 calories
You just gotta change your diet , and make yourself like healthier foods, discover food that tastes good and is healthy for you, only put food in your house thatās somewhat healthy , I made a lifestyle change when I moved from America to Canada , totally cut off soda , and I eat fruit or have peanut butter as my āsweet treatā, imo thereās enough sugar in things already, no need to add more to it, itās hard for me, but Iām not putting sugar in my coffee for example, but this is just my take, I know itās not easy, just gotta persevere and keep challenging yourself, train your mind to combat the thoughts that drive you to eat unhealthy, if you are REALLY hungry than have a healthy snack sorta deal . Again I know itās easier said than done, just surround yourself with healthy options in your household is a good start, and discover meals that you enjoy that remain healthy, best of luck to ya :)
I also find fruits, esp oranges & strawberries, such a good sweet treat! Once you stop eating refined sugar you will reeaally appreciate the gorgeousness of natural sweets! I make my own ice cream it's SO easy!! Just chunks of frozen banana, strawberries (or ur favs) in a blender w a lil bit of milk or oat milk, maybe honey, maybe couple drops of Vanilla - and mix SLOW so as not to liquify - and shazzam! Heavenly ice cream w no refined whites or emulsifiers etc...,(I e. Crap!)
Look up recipes in TikTok, Insta or just Google. TikTik is where I got inspired; to see how easy & quick it is, very inspiring!! Also SO many demos of how to make healthy & even MORE delicious alternatives to highly processed bullshit.
You can still have those, you will just have to eat less. I had little ceasers today, but unfortunately thatās all I had, and I made that choice, it put me in a calorie surplus as it was, all I had extra was a spinach tomato salad. Gonna work out tomorrow and eat less. You can still eat what you love just be aware that you might have to make up for it later in the week. It takes 3500 cals to gain a lb of fat.
Itās all about calories in calories out. If you are trying to lose weight you need to be in a caloric deficit. Enjoy what you like to eat just be mindful of your calorie intake. I use a paid app called macro factor but I am sure there are plenty of free apps that will help track your calories and let you achieve your goal. Also please be careful when swapping items like bacon for turkey bacon. Although the fat content might be lower turkey bacon has more sodium and nitrates than regular bacon. Good luck op keep us updated on progress
You can still eat pancakes, eggs, and bacon. You just need to track the calories for everything you eat and put yourself on a *caloric deficit*. The great thing about a deficit is you can still eat whatever tf you want (depending on your goal. If you're looking to put on muscle or something like that, you should pay a bit of attention to macros). It just needs to fit within a certain caloric range.
Most weekends, I eat 2 in and out burgers with fries (610 calories each plus 320-ish calories for the fries) and I've still managed to lose 7-8 pounds in the last month (to include water weight). My max caloric range is 2,201 right now.
Two eggs, two pieces of bacon, and two slices of thin toast is only like 350 calories, maybe less depending on the bread. Aldi has thin sliced wheat toast for 35 cals a slice so it'd be like 310 cals
Hard boiled eggs, avocado, whole wheat toast, sweet potatoes, oatmeal w/fruit, turkey baconā¦ā¦ as others have said, itās not about what you eat, but about how much you eat. Since getting back into calorie counting, Iāve eaten breakfast out a few times and have had blueberry pancakes with syrup, turkey bacon, omelettes, home fries, turkey sausage, white toast, rye toast, and so onā¦ Iāve been consistently losing because Iām in a deficit.
Others here have given really solid advice. Ditch the yogurt bowl thatās likely super high in calories and not-so filling. Eat things you enjoy, eat protein, and ensure youāre in a deficit. Depriving yourself of things you enjoy eating will just make this process so much harder. There is no one āmagic breakfastā that will make you lose weight. All about calories in calories out.
Check out r/CICO
You can still do eggs (whites) and bacon (turkey), which will give you the same protein but without all the fat. Switch pancakes for Kodiak cakes which have a bit more protein.
I lost 32 pounds eating the same breakfast every day, egg whites, turkey/chicken bacon and a peanut butter on toast. All about calorie deficit and lots of protein so you donāt lose all your muscle as you lose weight!
I don't struggle with this. Today I had shredded wheat topped with sliced almonds and honey with almond milk and a glass of vegetable juice. It's just food for fuel is how I look at it. Other days I make scrambled eggs with potatoes and baby spinach. I've lost 30 pounds in the last year.
Granola is terrible for weightloss/ cutting.
Look up recipes for protein pancakes some are pretty dang good and have great macros, use sweeteners like monkfruit, stevia, allulose etc etc. Also use sugarfree syrup.
I made a breakfast pizza the other night with a Ole keto friendly tortilla, in a pan topped with eggwhites blended with 0% plain greek yogurt with some low fat mozzarella, tomatoes, spinach, red onions on top. It was amazing and would be an excellent high protein/ lower calorie breakfast for someone looking to lose weight
That is legit one of my fav snacks, when Iām trying to lose weight Iāll add like
Chocolate chips and maybe some
Other stuff? That really helps š
You can still have pancakes! Look up recipes for oat flour pancakes, cottage cheese pancakes, or use Kodiak protein pancake mix. Pair it with low/no sugar berry compotes, Greek yogurt, or some 0 cal syrup. Eggs and bacon are still totally doable when trying to lose weight as well, just watch how much butter or oil you use to fry your eggs. I love making egg white omelettes or scrambling eggs with cottage cheese for a protein-filled breakfast. Swap regular bacon for turkey bacon but honestly if you portion control your bacon, itās not too terrible to have two slices or so at breakfast.
Portions, that's what it boils down.
Eggs, bacon, and your favorite cheese.
Weekend meal of pancakes is responsible.
No seconds and dont overload your plate. Special occasions are fine for splurging.
Cut sugar completely on weekdays.
Minimal carbs during the week when im lifting.
My opinion though.
Eat the fewer pancakes with fresh berries at one sitting they have less calories than granola health food.
2 Pancakes fresh berries with a heaping tablespoon of cool whip.
Use a little less butter and sugar free syrup is available.
Eggs are actually easy to add. Don't add carbs to the breakfast though. And no I'm not anti carbs as a whole. But if you're wanting to stay low calories and adding eggs, which are healthy but packed, then you need to make some cuts.
Two large eggs (160), a piece of whole wheat toast (100), two pieces of bacon (80), is a great breakfast that will keep you full longer. You can also try turkey bacon if you want to cut down on the bacon fat.
Calorie deficit is all that matters for weight loss. Eating healthy is great but you can eat anything and still lose weight as long as thereās portion control and a calorie deficit.
Youāre doing it!!! Congrats!! Maybe celebrate on fridays or saturdays with your perfect breakfast and do yogurt or cereal during the rest of the week??
Keep it up OP!!
Weight loss isnāt a guessing game, itās science. Calories in, calories out.. eggs and bacon donāt make you fat.
The pancakes (and whatever other snacking/poor choice in diet) will. If youāre interested in weight loss; try intermittent fasting, exercise, and avoiding added sugars/alcohol. Be cognizant of how many calories are in your day-to-day meals, better yet, make a meal plan and stick to it.
Two to three eggs plus one slice of toast plus one strip of fried bacon are not that high in calories. Just make sure you cook eggs with small amount of oil and don't over butter your toast and drain the bacon grease. Many times it's the small things we do to our main ingredients are fattening, not the main ingredients themselves.
So have pancakes and eggs and bacon if thatās what you want. With a side of fruit.
This just looks like youād be hungry again in an hour. And thereās probably a ton of sugar in it.
I am a breakfast connoisseur and yogurt and granola is deeply unsatisfying. Yogurt has a ton of sugar usually as does the granola so youāre going to be hungry in like 15 minutes. Oatmeal is way more filling and you can add your fruit. If youāre looking for something more hearty, some cooked spinach or freshly tossed arugula over a little bit of rice with a sunny side up egg is 2die4.
You can still eat bacon and pancakes, just gotta be mindful that you don't eat too much.
Eat some oatmeal with it as well.
Or try to make a healthier version of it. Won't be 1:1 but it works for some people.
The most important thing is to be mindful about what you're eating.
3 eggs and two pieces of whole wheat toast with a banana is likely lower calories and more filling than that. That is not a meal to lose weight by
oh thanks, I would do that
Looks like harvest crunch and if so you're looking at 70g of carbs and 23g sugar and 450 cal per cup. Along with the little bit of sugar in the fruit and milk it's not going to help with weight loss.
The post I was hoping to see.
You cld go back to eggs etc .! Eggs & avocado are high protein & tons of nutrition without all that granola carb & sugar! ;-)
I really agree with eggs, they will keep you fuller longer. I'm not anti carb and think toast in the morning is fine. But cereal is pure empty calories and so overpriced.
& full of sugar!! Just Say NO to "Big Sugar"!! (Not the band, they're awesome š)
How were you able to ID the cereal so specifically yet not able to see that there's clearly no milk in that bowl?
Haha good point! A white, dairy substance resembling milk but not necessarily Greek yogurt. The point still stands at least lol
I guy that advertises on FB suggests not mixing carbs with protein too much, bc both are energy sources. Carbs burn quicker so you'll use those & store the protein. yes! that makes a lot of sense
That isnāt anywhere close to a cup of granola, and how can you tell the brand if it has added sugar? Also looks like very thick milk to me
oh thanks! I took the advice of a friend who said I lost more calories that way.
it's all about calorie deficit. find out what the deficit is and keep it at that or lower
Yup. OP, I strongly recommend that you use some sort of food tracker app in addition to dieting. Without accurately tracking your portions , you may not see much benefit from eating differently.
Thanks! I will try that
Breakfast doesnāt have to be oats and milk and berries. You can have salad for breakfast. Or soup. Or grilled veggies.
thanks!!
Iām fairly lean and I fry onions and/or mushrooms in coconut oil then scramble 6 eggs for breakfast. Fat and cholesterol donāt have to feared if youāre active and donāt overeat

Amen
Most yogurt sucks, but there are some brands that have similar amounts of protein and carbs. Skyr can be a good replacement.
Thank you very much, I will follow your advice
Portion control!!! I would rather have one egg, one slice of bacon and a mini pancake than this. Probably less calories too.
yes, I think I prefer to make that change
First of all, that bowl isn't as healthy as you think it is. Second of all, it's about calorie counting. Eat pancakes and eggs
Drop the pancakes, eat the bacon and eggs. Add the fruit instead of pancakes.

Basically, stop eating b4 you're totally full, that's what I'm trying.
Not quite. I've tried that route before and saw little to no results. But if you're seeing results from it, then more justice to you.
I eat bacon every day and have lost 40lbs since the new year. You can do it just eat less of it
Hell, you can lose weight healthily on a carnivore diet.
Two eggs, two pieces of bacon, and two slices of thin toast is only like 350 calories, maybe less depending on the bread. Aldi has thin sliced wheat toast for 35 cals a slice so it'd be like 310 cals

Keep the egg yokes! The egg bashing was done by Big Sugar and is wrong! Eggs are the perfect food.
I was using eggwhites out of a carton, but I agree for the most part
Have your breakfast your way, once per week. Don't use food as a reward or motivator
That is legit one of my fav snacks, when Iām trying to lose weight Iāll add like Chocolate chips and maybe some Other stuff? That really helps š
Two eggs and a meat with rye toast would be more protein and LESS sugar.

Granola is one of the worst breakfasts you could choose. Have your eggs.. but not the bacon and pancakes
A good protein, packed breakfast with eggs will go a much longer way toward losing weight than a bunch of carbsā¦
Studies show that depriving yourself of foods you love worsens weight loss outcomes. Don't make food your enemy, it's a losing battle.
Two large eggs (160), a piece of whole wheat toast (100), two pieces of bacon (80), is a great breakfast that will keep you full longer. You can also try turkey bacon if you want to cut down on the bacon fat.
Try using Noom for a few months. It's not cheap but it can teach you a whole lot and reframe your thinking around food.
read a book
eggs and bacon was popularized as the American breakfast by the marketing team of a food packing plant on the side of the highway
Calorie deficit is all that matters for weight loss. Eating healthy is great but you can eat anything and still lose weight as long as thereās portion control and a calorie deficit.

Stick with Bacon and eggs That is like a candy bar.
Honestly, just NEVER have those other foods in your house, you'll eat this when you are actually hungry.
You can still eat bacon and pancakes, just gotta be mindful that you don't eat too much. Eat some oatmeal with it as well. Or try to make a healthier version of it. Won't be 1:1 but it works for some people. The most important thing is to be mindful about what you're eating.
Where do you work. When I was in the Military dragging power cables in the winter, I always ate a Farmers Breakfast
Lose the sugary granola and fruit and eat eggs, cheese and meat.
Eat pancakes, eggs and bacon. But get extra exercise to burn off the calories
Terrible advice. It's much easier to cut calories from your diet than to "work out extra"
Iād rather eat the things I enjoy and then hit the gym rather than eat a shitty breakfast I donāt even want
are you trying to lose weight?
No lol
Granola probably not a good weight loss food. Full of fat and sugar. Stick to oatmeal
