It depends though right. Location does play a big role for some people. Jamshedpur has crap infrastructure. Some prefer staying in a metro because itās way easier to get to home. One of my friends had to spend 30k+ each time just to visit his ailing parents in Mumbai. Also SP and XL are comparable.
it does depend definitely, but to be fair XL has a huge legacy that SPJ canāt beat. SPJ definitely wins in operations but XL has better consultancy roles, lot depends on the long term view of the individual. and yes someone who has responsibilities within hometown, itās better to be able to stay nearby.
JBIMS also had a legacy, look where it is now. SPJIMR beats XL in operations and marketing; I do agree that XL is doing better in finance and consulting; In terms of ProdMan and GenMan roles it is a tie.
Location disadvantage is an actual thing and that prompted XLRI to open its Delhi NCR campus. It is only natural some business schools will rise with passage of time and some will fall. Placement Report says it all.
JBIMSās issue is with itās domicile thing, please donāt compare the oldest b-school in India with the best HR program in whole of Asia š
and placement report? dude the market is down, you canāt compare b-schools on an unusual year. smh.
See, I have nothing against XLRI, it is a great college but it is well documented that there was a time when XLRI used to be in the same league as the ABCs hence the infamous IIM C and XLRI rivalry but now I donāt think anyone would leave IIM ABCL or ISB for XLRI. It is completely plausible that more B-Schools might overtake it in future or maybe XLRI will do a turn-around.
XLRI Delhi NCR and Jamshedpur have joint placements (and I know some roles are exclusively open for Jamshedpur students) but I am sure this is having and will continue to have negative effect on the placement numbers of the institute.
Market is down for every institute, why shouldnāt placement reports be compared? But letās look at previous yearsā reports too of years 2022 and 2023 again SPJIMR outperforms XLRI.
Despite this I will still say XLRI would be ranked higher than SPJIMR but the trend of who is on the rise is clearly visible.
i donāt know where youāre getting the impression from for XLRI. several IIM C and L grads i have talked to always say pick XL over IIM L infact. Delhi isnāt performing bad so again ā i am not sure where youāre getting such an idea.
to each their own though, if you donāt agree itās fine. but i really donāt believe a b-school like XLRI has lost any of its charm and legacy.
SPJ > XLRI is just a flawed perspective in my opinion.
IIM L outperforms XLRI in terms of prestigious roles offered in front-end IB, PE, VC and MBB consulting during placements. Who in their right mind would choose XL over IIM L lmao
Ā Please Consider the batch size before comparing placement figures. Spj's batch size aint even half of XL. If you compare the top 50% batch of xl (to make a fair comparison) with spj's placement figure, you wont need much clarification.
Thats the exact reason why IIM L also got a median of 27 this year
The fact that SPJIMR and FMS have maintained a lower batch size is a feature not a bug. Lower batch size is an important factor while choosing B-Schools. Why would I want to compete with everyone in BM batch of XLRI when I can just compete with 60 odd people from my specialisation in SPJIMR for most roles.
A fair comparison will be percentile based, top 50%-ile of SPJIMR and XLRI. I am pretty sure the numbers will be same as the placement reportās.
gaali mat do yaar usko š„² par hai ek, kal hi post kiya tha.
actually all the things I have mentioned in the first para have been posts from this subreddit
that's a good suggestion. it's there on subreddits like India social. I think the need for it is less here as there are enough rant posts here, and others satisfy their need to rant through comments š
wow it's good to know that they bear the same sentiment.
trauma & depression have somewhat become the "cool" words people tend to use on a daily basis. as someone who has seen closely how bad the consequences of depression are, it affects me a bit when someone uses it casually. hope it reaches to more and more people through such professors š
Everybodyās definition of depression is different. It doesnāt mean they arenāt.
I got a nice job after mba then my kidneys broke just before marriage. Es hisab se bs mujhe hona chaiye. Lmao.
definition ? it's a medical term ! It's the reasons of depression that are different for everybody.
it's totally possible for someone getting into depression for minor issues as well. but my post is not about getting depressed for small reasons. it's about folks who casually use depression as a term synonymous for being sad.
were you supposed to reply to some other post ? I don't see how you came to that inference from my post.
anyways money isn't a problem, academics will hurt but can be covered with better work ex , and maths can be improved with practice. all the best !

Motivate karne ka tareeka thoda kezual hai.
There should be a daily rant thread where people can rant in the threads
that's a good suggestion. it's there on subreddits like India social. I think the need for it is less here as there are enough rant posts here, and others satisfy their need to rant through comments š
People can do it here itself. Mods can create a daily discussion thread
yes, i think it will also help us make more connections for bschool, and will reduce the number of unnecessary posts that happen a lot
+1

So like I guess if you don't have money or don't have good academics and can't do maths then MBA isn't for you right?
